Galaxy S Official Froyo coming mid September

This german site apparantly has first-hand information that Samsung is planning to roll out the Froyo update mid-September, via Kies of course...
This makes me wonder how close to final the JPC update was...
Also, Kies ist just downloading an update (and taking forever to do it) which might also point at things approaching some kind of big release. I have no idea whether the GPS fixes and Lag fixes will be included in this mid-September release, but I'd guess it's pretty unlikely since the last info from Samsung was that they are "looking into it" implying that they don't really know yet. Maybe we'll at least see some improvement, test runs with Jm6, Jm7 and JPc indicate that GPS performance is being worked on at least.
We'll see what September will give us and then start hoping for October updates...

I'm watching the new version of Kies trickle on to my PC as I type... I was thinking the same... is this a new Kies which won't brick Bell user's phones when they try to upgrade to Froyo!? It seems finding out what's new will take a while though... been downloading this update for about an hour already... and still have 37meg to go! S

Mine just finished. So far all it's telling me is that I can't update from JPC...well...that#s not exactly new, but it also isn't mid-September yet...^^

I"m kinda noob @ android stuff , atm I got the Galaxy S rooted with lag fix is kies the only possibility to get the new offical froyo soon? so yes , is there anyway a good tutorial for how to use kies..

I definitely think delaying past mid-September is a bad move. Many other high end phones using the official 2.2 builds for about a month or more.
Then again, the announcement on Korean Froyo turned out to give false hope to a guy like me. Someone was saying how Optus would be getting this because he heard from an Optus rep that they were. I stated at that time there are 3 days left in August and Korea hadn't been upgraded now we are entering the weekend and will probably end the weekend waking up on the 6th of Sept without Froyo, so if everything else gets delayed the same amount of time...it doesn't mean great things for the rollout.
That said, I do think the hardware is similar enough that I was originally surprised to hear they might get Froyo as many as two weeks before the next countr(y/ies). Maybe they will condense the rollout timeframe.

My Kies doesn´t find new version. Can anybody post the version number of the new one?

i have 1.5.1.10074_2 and it's the only one available on samsungmobile pages (at least for UK and my country)

mine isnt showing an update either. im running 1.5.1.10074_2

nevermind. i turned stuff on and off a few times and now its updating.
edit again:
it started doing a download or something. then after maybe 20 seconds it went away and the program restarted and its back to the old version and doesnt show any updates available. wtf..

Definitely looking forward for the upgrafe. Mainly for flash.

It would be nice if a changelog for Kies versions would be available.
Version 1.5.1.10074.45 is probably not official for SGS since it's not available under SGS's support pages, I'm wondering what have they fixed or changed.
But it probably couldn't get worse since Kies is a very shi*ty piece of sw...

Mine did the same. So I restarted KIES and it a notification came up with saying that there is a new version. It's installing now! But it's sssssssssssssslow.
I will post if I see any changes!

Nice, I have been waiting for an announcement like this. Can't wait to get 2.2, mainly for the chrome2phone feature and of course Flash.

You kept your word gps fix...... In september ....... And lol @tmobile smh.... I hope we can get the froyo update thru kies as well.. I hope this fix have better battery life. Will update tomorrow on battery life.

People are having problem installing it though.
Still waiting for OTA.

I too am going to wait until the OTA drops. Hopefully by then it will get re-rooted. NEED my tether.

I tried and tried to get it to work not happening. Hopefully becouse of this the ota is close

i dont understand... why are people having so much trouble installing it. i did it on my hardware locked vibrant.... its pretty easy.

is everyone sure that there is going to be ota update so we dont have to go through the whole kies process? cause I cant get that to work.

i dont know about the ota update tmobile really suck in this matter. i was talking to them earlier today they still have no clue. LOL.. so your best bet it is to get it through kies....

Yeah, I don't understand why so many people are having issues with kies...

Can't even get KIES to open. Getting a MainStage error and it just closes out.

U basically see the post at droiddog. Go the kies samsung site, dl it n do not click on update when it ask you. Then you connect your phone from "samsung kies." Then u should see an alert for firmware update. Tadaa

Kies isn't even released for the US market so this cannot be the official method of installing the update.

If it's been released via Kies, Samsung has done this on purpose. I had some issues with Kies but I ultimately got the update. The new Kies has some
I do see a difference in GPS functionality, it seems more accurate. Just give it some time though

Not only is the update no longer available, but I talked to Samsung Tech support and they told me "There is no software available for Samsung Vibrant. If you download KIES it won't even work for your phone. Any update will be pushed OTA."
Maybe someone accidentally flipped the switch?

New kies upgrade.

I connected my phone to kies and found out kies have new version.
It is now 1.5.3.10104_13.
Hopefully, it is a sign that we North American is getting froyo because UK roll out started after kies update.
One thing tho... I can't access to phone contacts through kies after upgrade.

Are you using KIES, or Mini Kies? Does the program update only show after you plug your phone in?

After the update, kies can no longer find your phone nor even the update ji6. In short, it's not for us galaxy's.

I use I9000M, Bell Samsung Vibrant.
I am not using Mini Kies.
May be this is Vibrant specific upgrade?

Kies Mini 10104_1

New Kies mini is here. It shows that JI6 is still the current version. For about 5 minutes my hopes were high just to crush hard.

Theres a discussion on the 2. 2 update that comes from the new kies mini at t-mobile forums.

I'm at work now but I loaded up Kies on my home VM, but you need the damn phone to check for updates, lame. Hopefully it's real. It would make whoever said that the update would be pushed on the 22/21. We'll see.

Yeah i opened Kies Mini 3 times before it updated to the latest version. I havn't plugged my phone in yet because i have my phone rooted with a custom rom so i aint trying to mess nothing up. Im just waiting on that guy to see if he posts them pics. Itll be cool if its true but we'll see.

I've checked it with my phone, no update, and been calling BS in the thread over there.

I'm running JI6 and removed my root and found no update.

I updated Mini Kies but bet it's just a precursor is all. Takes him "10 minutes" to post a screenshot with Build and other info. That sounds like a winner..

I would of been ok if he could of typed the build info I asked for. because I'm guessing he doesn't know how the build sequence works and would of botched it up saying it's build JH7 or something else that wouldn't be right.

That Dudes known for lying though, so it wouldnt be too surprising that he would be lying again. And your right it shouldn't be too hard to look at the build number and kernel and just type it if her weren't lying.

I was able to update Kies Mini but now when i plug in my phone a window pop's up saying MiniApplication has stopped working, then the program closes. I have a HP laptop running Windows 7 64 bit. Any suggestions?

KF3 finally available for UK XEU version on Kies!!!

I am about to faint here, they have finally posted the KF3 update on Kies! Plug your SGSII's into your PC and update!! Doing it now...Hopefully the camera focus during video recording is finally fixed!

Man, searched for my cable for like 10 minutes, connected, THERE IS the update available, but Kies says "recharge the phone" and does not let me proceed proceed with the update. It is end of day here on the east coast of the USA, phone is at 20% power. Gonna be one sleepless night for me

They released an update for Kies about two weeks ago. Are you using the latest version? Also, I don't know where you got your phone but some of the Expansys USA phones were from Eastern Europe if that makes a difference.

Because I'm anal, I rebuild my phone from a factory reset when I update it. It was kind of cluttered anyway. Since I've got to go through the whole setup process I'll post any changes to apps and such as I'm slogging through it.

I know this has to have been covered in the past, but I'm struggling to understand it. I know if I update through Kies, I'll lose root. Is there a way to download this kernel and push it through Odin and not lose root? Sorry to rehash this again. Thanks.

Actually how can you tell if it's UK or Eastern Europe? All my instructions came in English and both the device and manual use british english. Anyway just plugged in again and said I had latest which was KE7/KE4

When you plug it in Kies it should tell you what version your phone is in brackets at the end of the firmware version. Mine is (XEU)

The box would have been in Polish and when you turned the phone on it would have been set to Polish too. From what you described, you've got a UK phone. It's odd though, that Keis sees your phone's firmware but doesn't offer an upgrade.

I forgot to boot my mac into bootcamp. Kies for Mac is beta and hence does not offer firmware upgrade, only the PC version does.

I have the polish version also, and Kies has KF2 as the latest firmware. I tried it twice, but I had lots of problems with data and voice connection on Rogers in Canada. I hope the KF3 will fix this problem, when it is available.

Isn't kf2 much recent build than kf3? Wondering what is the advantage of updating to an older build.
