http://www.areamobile.de/news/16376-android-2-2-fuer-galaxy-s-froyo-update-kommt-mitte-september
This german site apparantly has first-hand information that Samsung is planning to roll out the Froyo update mid-September, via Kies of course...
This makes me wonder how close to final the JPC update was...
Also, Kies ist just downloading an update (and taking forever to do it) which might also point at things approaching some kind of big release. I have no idea whether the GPS fixes and Lag fixes will be included in this mid-September release, but I'd guess it's pretty unlikely since the last info from Samsung was that they are "looking into it" implying that they don't really know yet. Maybe we'll at least see some improvement, test runs with Jm6, Jm7 and JPc indicate that GPS performance is being worked on at least.
We'll see what September will give us and then start hoping for October updates...
I'm watching the new version of Kies trickle on to my PC as I type... I was thinking the same... is this a new Kies which won't brick Bell user's phones when they try to upgrade to Froyo!? It seems finding out what's new will take a while though... been downloading this update for about an hour already... and still have 37meg to go! S

I suppose this is in line with the same line of announcements that were stating that a Korean Froyo would be available by end of August...
Mine just finished. So far all it's telling me is that I can't update from JPC...well...that#s not exactly new, but it also isn't mid-September yet...^^
I"m kinda noob @ android stuff , atm I got the Galaxy S rooted with lag fix is kies the only possibility to get the new offical froyo soon? so yes , is there anyway a good tutorial for how to use kies..
Thanks

I definitely think delaying past mid-September is a bad move. Many other high end phones using the official 2.2 builds for about a month or more.
Then again, the announcement on Korean Froyo turned out to give false hope to a guy like me. Someone was saying how Optus would be getting this because he heard from an Optus rep that they were. I stated at that time there are 3 days left in August and Korea hadn't been upgraded now we are entering the weekend and will probably end the weekend waking up on the 6th of Sept without Froyo, so if everything else gets delayed the same amount of time...it doesn't mean great things for the rollout.
That said, I do think the hardware is similar enough that I was originally surprised to hear they might get Froyo as many as two weeks before the next countr(y/ies). Maybe they will condense the rollout timeframe.
My Kies doesn´t find new version. Can anybody post the version number of the new one?
versionnumber is : 1.5.1.10074_45
Maybe a download link?
i have 1.5.1.10074_2 and it's the only one available on samsungmobile pages (at least for UK and my country)
mine isnt showing an update either. im running 1.5.1.10074_2
edit:
nevermind. i turned stuff on and off a few times and now its updating.
edit again:
it started doing a download or something. then after maybe 20 seconds it went away and the program restarted and its back to the old version and doesnt show any updates available. wtf..
Kies_1.5.1.10074_2_6 running
Shows as downloading Kies_1.5.1.10074.45
Definitely looking forward for the upgrafe. Mainly for flash.

For all those looking grab it here http://www.samsung.de/de/support/detail.aspx?aguid=47e29085-4dff-4b5c-b8ab-dd9b9c8b70f8&dl=software
It would be nice if a changelog for Kies versions would be available.
Version 1.5.1.10074.45 is probably not official for SGS since it's not available under SGS's support pages, I'm wondering what have they fixed or changed.

The Koreans were supposed to get their Froyo update at the end of last month, right? Did they get it or did Samsung miss the target? Just curious as to wether Samsung are on target for upgrade, or if we shouldn't expect to see the promised upgrade this month.

They all point to the claim made by Samsunghub, which claims it was "confirmed" by a samsung rep. We don't know if their rep worked with Samsung themselves though, and we don't know the reliability of their rep.

Heh, I check every night because I don't follow a Korean blog (there is one that I do seem to link to on a lot of naver searches so I probably should just bookmark it).
When you get Froyo please post (start a new thread at xda, not this thread) and I'll do the same. I know many users who could use the info, will be unlikely to promptly hear without XDA or a western news source, and some don't even have Kies set up to occasionally check (but they'll be able to go to a Service center to get the update).
Thanks in advance.
You kept your word gps fix...... In september ....... And lol @tmobile smh.... I hope we can get the froyo update thru kies as well.. I hope this fix have better battery life. Will update tomorrow on battery life.
People are having problem installing it though.
Still waiting for OTA.
I too am going to wait until the OTA drops. Hopefully by then it will get re-rooted. NEED my tether.

Can't even get KIES to open. Getting a MainStage error and it just closes out.
U basically see the post at droiddog. Go the kies samsung site, dl it n do not click on update when it ask you. Then you connect your phone from "samsung kies." Then u should see an alert for firmware update. Tadaa

Not only is the update no longer available, but I talked to Samsung Tech support and they told me "There is no software available for Samsung Vibrant. If you download KIES it won't even work for your phone. Any update will be pushed OTA."

Nothing at all about dk28
no more GPS?
I don't see anything at all on my Sprint page about this update or even anything specific to the version of software on my phone.
I installed this update earlier today and the GPS on my phone no longer works. It worked before and I never noticed any problems or delays that others reported. I've tried wiping the data and cache numerous times and even re-installing the upgrade but nothing seems to work.
Does anyone have any other suggestions on what I might try? At this point I question whether or not this is the same update we'll receive OTA...
Thanks,
Scott

So you think Sprint's plan is to push this update to everyone OTA and then have all the end-users install Odin and fix it? Even while denying that there is such a release? Hilarious!
This is not an official rollout. It is a leak. Those who install it, and are comfortable with some level of hacking, may proceed at their own risk, as usual.
But no one should believe this is an official release from Sprint.

Is it actually worthwhile to update from dk17 to dk29? I'm not really having any issues on dk17. Might just wait to confirm its final before going through the reinstall process.

Um.. That makes no since..
He had to odin BACK to di18 because he installed a leak..
the official is based off the knowledge of the user never hacking the phone and leaving it stock.
Therefore; no the average user will not need to use odin.. infact won't even know about it.
But those who have come to xda WILL need to odin back to stock di18 in order for the official Froyo to work when it is launched.

Suppose you got an update OTA. Wouldn't you consider it official?
If you have followed the original thread (which has been closed), the update happened OTA to a non-Sprint person. That is why many people claim it's official.
Why would Samsung release DK28 as official Froyo full of bugs when their Eclair builds were flawless? It doesn't make any sense. I sure wish people would stop saying that this is the official release and confusing new people. This is NOT the official release. There is NO evidence for that. Its NOT a finished product at this point.

UGH. How many times does this need to be explained? He had a .4 hardware revision. .4 hardware revisions are for TESTERS. He received the update OTA because SOMEHOW he got ahold of a hardware revision that only TESTERS should have. This has all been discussed a thousand times.
Also, if this WAS the official release it would be a disaster for sprint.

Anyone receive the new Honeycomb 3.1 update yet OTA? officially?
I'm from South Africa and am unsure if my device can even detect the update (maybe the incremental 3.0.1 update damaged my OTA updates) or if it hasn't beeen released yet.
I also have 1.141.01_EMEA_GEN3 and am still waiting for the OTA. I've been searching for links all over to the official OTA link, but can't find it anywhere. I'm in the netherlands ( although i'm also a south african : )
Same here, no 3.1 OTA yet ... living in Belgium but bought the Iconia in Holland.

No idea, how can i tell? Doesn't say anything in the menus about manufacture date. I bought it in May, and since they were only around a few weeks, i'm guessing it was also April.
See back of box on barcode sticker. Also states operated countries.
Also April 2011 ... and bottom right it shows AEB NL

I have a 1.141.01_EMEA_GEN3 manually updated from 1.105.01 and still not getting OTA to 3.1.
Offtopic.
Hope you can help me to solve a riddle in my mind my device label in the back of the box has:
A500-10S16m (top right corner, I think is model number)
Part No. XE.H60PN.004
Countries: PA MX
And had a stock build: Acer_A500_1.105.01_EMEA_GEN3
I'm starting to think that out there are at least two different models of A500 that uses EMEA_GEN3 build, that explains why some of us had the "wifi error" when manually upgraded to 1.141.01.
Please if you are willing to share with us your model number part number and countries, PM me, or post it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1155664

There will be an update by the end of this month. That's what Acer Poland claims. For EMEA users of course.

I am at the end or the world: Oz!
I have not had any update since the first in late Dec when I got the phone. Still KK5
Seriously!
Yeah now why we have'nt been getting updates since last year(Dec) I don't get it :/
All UK ones are not getting it unless you do it manually! DBT ones are being pampared looks like!
how to check where my phone is coming from?
How is it some people get the update and their Note flies and others get it and it lags? My homescreens move jerkingly across as I move them over.
I'd remove it if I knew how. I hate the new keyboard too. Wish I could get the original kb back somehow.
I could type without ever messing up, now it's like any other touchscreen keyboard and I'm constantly deleting letters I didn't mean to type.
My GT-N7000 just downloaded an update to LA4. I have it on push updates, but it didn't tell me about it - only when I manually asked it to check through the settings (not Kies, but that might have worked too. I think I did this yesterday too, so it's pretty new).
It's the first update I've received since I got my phone mid-December (I've been checking quite often), unfortunately I can't remember for sure what version it was on - it was 2.3.6, I think KJ6 but am not 100% certain. The region is TGY (Hong Kong). The download was 80.63MB.
Things I've noticed:
- Phone/S Memo icons are a bit different (yeah... I'm writing things down in the order I notice them)
- S-Pen calibration seems much better. The Auto-Rotation bug is gone (where if you toggle auto-rotation it would write a good 1cm off).
- Scrolling in some ListViews is much smoother. For example, scrolling in G+ used to be really jerky, it's now smooth.
- When you scroll a list view too far the effect is a bit different
- The screen takes just as long to come on after pressing the power button.
Maybe all of this is old and everyone else has been on LA4 for ages, but I thought I'd post it anyway.

Quite simple, the note will recieve a full blown ICS update and the device does not need more updates for the Gingerbread branch, its all ready on the newest api-level.
My own insider contacts have said it will be quite soon after the SGS II ICS update that the Note will get its own.
I would bet that a ICS running version is on display at MWC in barcelona in three weeks.
yeah.. I notice those changes too.. everything run very smooth. very happy with the new update.. and excited for the ics..
