I've flashed to the new radio, Froyo, and the patches to make the marketplace and the streaming media to work properly. All that is left is my wireless tether app is not working. Any ideas as to what needs to be done to get this working?
I am using (or trying to) the wireless tether app for the first time on froyo and though it seems like it's working.. none of my clients can connect to it even after putting the wifi security key..
It seems to be an issue of kernel compatibility with the leaked froyo. You should be able to use version 2.0.2 ....granted it only supports wep and ad hoc, but it is working for me on leaked froyo.
Good luck.
Have you removed the "dun." out of your DUN NAI setting?
dial ##778 send, edit, password: 000000, MIP Def Profile, remove the "dun.", apply changes, reboot
The app needs to be updated for Froyo. Hopeful it will be done soon.

In another thread in the Dev section someone mentioned that after you apply the leaked 2.2 update that you would be able to use the 3G Mobile Hotspot just like Wireless Tether, without charges from VZW. Is there any truth to this?
As I understand it, you can turn the feature on, but once a client connects, it will bring them to a VZW page telling them that you need to have said feature enabled on your account.

Ah well that sucks, really would be nice if it were to work. It seems like a nice app.
dial ##778, go into edit mode, the password is 000000, once in go to M.IP Default Profile and edit DUN NAI from [email protected] to [email protected]. Then hit menu and press commit modifications. It should then reboot or w.e and your done. Free 3g hotspot app
At least thats how other people have said to do it

Hmmm interesting, I don't have the leaked update installed it was more of a curious question. Care to tell me where you found that info? I would like to read more.

If you have previously used this method from stock 2.1 it also carries over from any type of wipe or installing the new radio.
I currently have the tethering plan through VZW from when I had my storm. I decided to take 3G Hotspot for a quick spin.
-WPA2
-AP Mode
-15 Devices max
Are all available.
Nothing special if you're rooted and use wifitether.
I am on the new FroYo leak and I just tried this with the included "3G Mobile Hotspot" app and it didnt work. I double checked my DUN NAI, and it is set to [email protected]. I could see and connect to my hotspot, but no web pages would load. Anyone have any ideas?

I have the same problem. I changed the dun NAI as directed. Wireless Tether was broken for me but I'll try copying the .bin file over again.
Sweet!
Just hope we don't get a huge bill at the end of the month.

My laptop could not connect to the conn with wpa2 enabled. But with wpa and wep encryption it works great.
Just remember that wep is crap.. i can crack wep in 5 minutes easily.

Plus its fun putting the most revolting ssid name that you can think of.

does this effect any other part of your phone? or does only wifi tether use this?
I did the mod, cranked up 3g hotspot, and connected my Ipod Touch. Worked great, and strangely enough was quite fast. Sweet! (Froyo 2.2)

When I tried this last night I could see and connect to the hot spot, but it wouldn't give me an IP address.
From the instructions above it would appear that I could just remove "DUN" from the profile, commit the changes and then be up and running on VZWs network. Am I doing this correctly?
thanks,
Works for me. Thanks for all the good stuff guys!
I was running bubby's aosp rom then i started to have an internet problem( I tried both 3G and WiFi) and when i use an app that needs internet connection(ESPN Scorecenter, Market, Dolphin Browser, Facebook) it won't work and i would get an internet connection error. After I Started having problems i flashed backed to stock to see if it would work, it didn't. Now i am on Jt Super Clean Rom and still doesn't work
Can someone please help?
anyone please?

Try dialing *228 then option 1. If that doesn't work then try a factory data reset from settings. There may be other options but those are the two I know.

Wipe data and cache. Should take care of it. From clockwork recovery if u have it

no dice it didnt work and i am not factory rest data because i did that alreadt any other suggestions?
Do you live in a former alltel area? I do & I was having similar problems with email apps. Vz tech support had me do *22899 and then change my mobile data setting from automatic a to automatic b in the wireless & network settings menu. This option is only listed in former alltel areas though.

Ya I think so i went on the altlel website to check an it said
"Alltel is now a part of Verizon Wireless in your market, creating America's Largest Mobile to Mobile Calling Family — over 80 Million Strong! We'd like to invite you to shop verizonwireless.com and explore the full lineup of products and services we have available."
ok so i have flashed back to stock everything via odin and i still get problems and idea's?
You could try going to automatic b. As I understand it, it allows use of alltel AND vz towers & sets their priority as well. You get to it from menu>settings>wireless & networks>mobile data>system select.

All I have is home and automatic. Am I missing something?
i fixed my problem i flashed the stock recovery, system, and kernal in odin and then did factory rest via privacy settings and then it worked

I've been looking for ages to find a viable solution to getting the PPTP vpn solution to work on my epic. I haven't been able to find any solutions and have only found people who are having the same problem. It just won't connect to the server.
Has anyone been using 2.2 found that the issue is resolved after the update?
Thanks much, enjoy the weekend.
Yes, it is resolved. I can connect to an encrypted pptp over wifi. I cannot over 3g still, but I'm guessingthat is because I haven't turned off sprint's proxy (can't remember where I saw how to do that.)

That makes complete sense. I knew it wasn't a server side issue

To turn off Sprint's proxy, pull up your phone dial pad and dial ##3282# It brings up the "Data" menu.
Tap on "Multimedia."
Enter your MSL.
Change the RTSP Proxy Address field to 0.0.0.0
Then change the RTSP Proxy port to 0
That's it, you're done.
I'd taken care of this awhile back, and noticed it was back after flashing Syndicate. Not sure what resets it, but I'm guessing this is put back when the device is wiped and factory reset.
Anyway, don't forget to check this, and disable it again if it gets put back during various flashing activities. If you completely forget this, it will come back and bite you and you'll have a devil of a time figuring out why some app won't work over the internet (answer: Because Sprint's proxy server is blocking it).
So apparently sprint thinks this is the iphone and we want our traffic filtered and/or proxied. This causes skyfire not to work with its flash video feature (and possibly other video/streaming apps, like a radio app I tried). But you can fix it and here's how (credit goes to sdx thread for the moment, will try and post link when back at pc):
##3282#
Multimedia
Input your msl (find it using adb command getprop, look for msl in readout)
Change rtsp proxy to 0.0.0.0 and rtsp proxy port to 0
Enjoy your unfiltered traffic!

Possibly some Sprint bloatware requires data go through their proxy, but I haven't heard of it.

What about the HTTPD proxy on that same menu? Is there any benefit to changing that?

HTTPD has to do with the phone acting as a webserver of sorts - not sure where it would be beneficial.
any one care to explain more about this?
i have yet to find anything online that does not work over my phone browser or other apps. (other than flash)

certain types of streaming media are blocked. SkyFire seems to only work about 1/3 of the time.
SIDE NOTE:
Does anyone have the original settings? I changed mine and can't get online at all now

Just to clarify for anyone:
Must be rooted.
Get the msl reader to get PW and use it.
Enter ##3282# into phone as if you were dialing someones number.
Choose "edit" mode.
Enter in MSL code you got from the MSL reader for the password.
Click "advanced"
Change "RTSP Proxy Port" to 0.
Change "RTSP Proxy Address" to 0.0.0.0
Then just back out and you're done.
I mainly wrote this out so people wouldn't get confused about whether or not to change the HTTP stuff and to get the exact names of the RTSP stuff correct.
Why do I need to do this all my internet apps work perfect on bonsai froyo dk28...
Also I don't use any sprint apps, they=crapware and eastern of space.

I don't know how many users here are on t-mobile with the Z1s and using the VPNs from your phone, but this is a necessity for me. After finally getting around to it I found out real quick that it didn't work, and recently found a post on their support forum confirming this as well as a workaround for it.
http://support.t-mobile.com/thread/60804
The above is specific to T-Mobile, but not to the Z1s, so I wanted to go ahead and add my experience, which is specific to the Z1s:
For some reason I was unable to edit the APN settings. I called T-Mobile support and they told me they can't help with VPN issues because it is the IT department of my companies problem (that would be me... and yes i know the vpn works). They told me if i wanted to access the APN settings i needed to unlock the phone? But I'm impatient so here is what I did for the Z1s specifically I just created a new APN with the same settings, and basically all you need to do is chang the protocol from IPv6 only to IPv4/IPv6 :good:
And now VPN works!
P.S. If this should be in a more general sub-forum please let me know/feel free to move it. :good:
I use private internet access VPN and their apps works fine for me. Did not need to modify anything. Just entered username/pw and connect. Have not tried the phone using a corporate work VPN though.

The problem seems to be if your endpoint is using IPv4, since the TMO network seems to be on IPv6 (though it may depend on the area). Also, this is using IKEv1 IPSEC VPNs through built-in android VPN settings. I also tried NCP's VPN client (3rd party app).
I think tmo should set their default profile to IPv4/IPv6.
I noticed sometimes I don't have data connection even though at full bars.
After I create a new profile with IPv4/IPv6, I don't have this problem any more.
