In another thread in the Dev section someone mentioned that after you apply the leaked 2.2 update that you would be able to use the 3G Mobile Hotspot just like Wireless Tether, without charges from VZW. Is there any truth to this?
As I understand it, you can turn the feature on, but once a client connects, it will bring them to a VZW page telling them that you need to have said feature enabled on your account.

Ah well that sucks, really would be nice if it were to work. It seems like a nice app.

Hmmm interesting, I don't have the leaked update installed it was more of a curious question. Care to tell me where you found that info? I would like to read more.

If you have previously used this method from stock 2.1 it also carries over from any type of wipe or installing the new radio.
I currently have the tethering plan through VZW from when I had my storm. I decided to take 3G Hotspot for a quick spin.
-WPA2
-AP Mode
-15 Devices max
Are all available.
Nothing special if you're rooted and use wifitether.
I am on the new FroYo leak and I just tried this with the included "3G Mobile Hotspot" app and it didnt work. I double checked my DUN NAI, and it is set to [email protected]. I could see and connect to my hotspot, but no web pages would load. Anyone have any ideas?

I have the same problem. I changed the dun NAI as directed. Wireless Tether was broken for me but I'll try copying the .bin file over again.
Sweet!
Just hope we don't get a huge bill at the end of the month.

My laptop could not connect to the conn with wpa2 enabled. But with wpa and wep encryption it works great.
Just remember that wep is crap.. i can crack wep in 5 minutes easily.

When I tried this last night I could see and connect to the hot spot, but it wouldn't give me an IP address.
From the instructions above it would appear that I could just remove "DUN" from the profile, commit the changes and then be up and running on VZWs network. Am I doing this correctly?
thanks,
Works for me. Thanks for all the good stuff guys!

I've been looking for ages to find a viable solution to getting the PPTP vpn solution to work on my epic. I haven't been able to find any solutions and have only found people who are having the same problem. It just won't connect to the server.
Has anyone been using 2.2 found that the issue is resolved after the update?
Thanks much, enjoy the weekend.
Yes, it is resolved. I can connect to an encrypted pptp over wifi. I cannot over 3g still, but I'm guessingthat is because I haven't turned off sprint's proxy (can't remember where I saw how to do that.)

To turn off Sprint's proxy, pull up your phone dial pad and dial ##3282# It brings up the "Data" menu.
Tap on "Multimedia."
Enter your MSL.
Change the RTSP Proxy Address field to 0.0.0.0
Then change the RTSP Proxy port to 0
That's it, you're done.
I'd taken care of this awhile back, and noticed it was back after flashing Syndicate. Not sure what resets it, but I'm guessing this is put back when the device is wiped and factory reset.
Anyway, don't forget to check this, and disable it again if it gets put back during various flashing activities. If you completely forget this, it will come back and bite you and you'll have a devil of a time figuring out why some app won't work over the internet (answer: Because Sprint's proxy server is blocking it).
So apparently sprint thinks this is the iphone and we want our traffic filtered and/or proxied. This causes skyfire not to work with its flash video feature (and possibly other video/streaming apps, like a radio app I tried). But you can fix it and here's how (credit goes to sdx thread for the moment, will try and post link when back at pc):
##3282#
Multimedia
Input your msl (find it using adb command getprop, look for msl in readout)
Change rtsp proxy to 0.0.0.0 and rtsp proxy port to 0
Enjoy your unfiltered traffic!

Possibly some Sprint bloatware requires data go through their proxy, but I haven't heard of it.

Just to clarify for anyone:
Must be rooted.
Get the msl reader to get PW and use it.
Enter ##3282# into phone as if you were dialing someones number.
Choose "edit" mode.
Enter in MSL code you got from the MSL reader for the password.
Click "advanced"
Change "RTSP Proxy Port" to 0.
Change "RTSP Proxy Address" to 0.0.0.0
Then just back out and you're done.
I mainly wrote this out so people wouldn't get confused about whether or not to change the HTTP stuff and to get the exact names of the RTSP stuff correct.

I don't know WHAT its doing but something is happening. I've seen a huge improvement so far. I usually have trouble using whatsapp. It's bin super quick since I done this. Hope this lasts lol.
Seriously, they allow anyone to start a new thread? I mean, if you have to create a New APN, you have to have the carrier data, and where you going to get it from?
It doesn't let you save it,
Holy ****, that really works but don't know why.
Before I had good speed too, but now it's just faaaast.
Before:
1.17Mbps down, 0.36Mbps up
After:
2.21Mbps down (!), 0.59Mbps up
Thanks mate
Edit: I think it actually works because the phone does an auto setup and doesn't use the APNs of your provider. But I'm not sure.
Anyway, just had 2.4Mbps down and 0.89Mbps up.
Does this actually work for anyone? Doesnt seem to make any sense to me, but if it works... Here is hoping
Didn't notice a difference.
im in chicago and its about 6am and i tried this. it seems to be making things faster with the market loading and stuff. ill try this again around lunch time and see if it still has a difference.
I can confirm this does actually work, though it doesn't make sense as to why...
For the ones that says it works, just a question.
Before this, you had APN configured? I means.. when you installed the rom, you manually setup the APN or you got it automatically configured with your carrier data?

Yes, it does, read my comment above yours.
I have experienced a drastic improvement on speedtest.net

If I do like suggested, when I select the new “blank” apn, the network discconect and after few seconds it connect again. Then, also if “3G” symbol is present, I have no connection at all.

Before Starting Make Sure You Have A Copy Of Your Internet Settings. (Everything in APN Settings)
Go to the Data Menu by entering ##DATA#
Select the APN Settings & Select Edit (Enter MSL)
Tap Each APN Separately (Select Edit & Enter MSL) & DELETE APNs (By Selecting The 3 Dots To The Right)
**You won't be able to delete ota apn but that's fine.
**Now you should have no internet!!!
Go To Regular Settings Then Select (More, Mobile Networks, Access Point Names) & Add APN Manually. **Adding "default, mms, supl, dun" under APN TYPE
**Put in all the correct settings the first time before saving APN. YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO GO BACK & EDIT APN AFTER IT'S SAVE. (The only way to correct the APN once saving it is to start at step one. Yes starting all over.)
Once You Put The Correct APN Settings In & Save It, LTE or DATA Should Show Up.
TRY TETHERING!!! OH IT WORKS.....?

i was finally able to get the APN option to show up.
Here is what i did ..
Called sprint and asked to get my Phone UICC unlocked. I explained needed it to be able to use my phone abroad with other carries. (I have business trip in two weeks.)
This request takes two to three business days to get this through their system and your account has to be in good standing.
Then today i did ##72786# which resets provisioning parameters... Now the APN menu is available.
Now that the settings are available to me. I did try your method posetd but got no LTE data after all was said and done.
So i do have a few questions for you if you can still assist.
1. Where/did you get the full APN settings from ..on my phone it will not display it.(mms address ip etc..)
2. on my phone for LTE its using the IMS APN can you share your IMS APN settings with me?
much thanks once again.
