Try to disable WiFi connection. Your phone should connect to Internet using 3G data connection now. Enjoy…
and how a blank APN do the trick???

@OP
Stop posting the same information all across the boards. I'm trashed everything except this one.
Can anyone else confirm if this actually works?
Just tried this, one thing I will say is my internet speed is MUCH faster. Feels as if my phone is using the hsdpa connection properly. Will report back tomorrow on anything else.
AFAIK you can't save a blank APN homie.

I don't know WHAT its doing but something is happening. I've seen a huge improvement so far. I usually have trouble using whatsapp. It's bin super quick since I done this. Hope this lasts lol.
Seriously, they allow anyone to start a new thread? I mean, if you have to create a New APN, you have to have the carrier data, and where you going to get it from?
It doesn't let you save it,
Holy ****, that really works but don't know why.
Before I had good speed too, but now it's just faaaast.
Before:
1.17Mbps down, 0.36Mbps up
After:
2.21Mbps down (!), 0.59Mbps up
Thanks mate
Edit: I think it actually works because the phone does an auto setup and doesn't use the APNs of your provider. But I'm not sure.
Anyway, just had 2.4Mbps down and 0.89Mbps up.
Does this actually work for anyone? Doesnt seem to make any sense to me, but if it works... Here is hoping
Didn't notice a difference.
im in chicago and its about 6am and i tried this. it seems to be making things faster with the market loading and stuff. ill try this again around lunch time and see if it still has a difference.
I can confirm this does actually work, though it doesn't make sense as to why...
For the ones that says it works, just a question.
Before this, you had APN configured? I means.. when you installed the rom, you manually setup the APN or you got it automatically configured with your carrier data?

It was automatically configured, but if you do what he described it's exactly this step the phone does again. But it work, kinda strange..

Yes, it does, read my comment above yours.
I have experienced a drastic improvement on speedtest.net
I tried.
If I do like suggested, when I select the new “blank” apn, the network discconect and after few seconds it connect again. Then, also if “3G” symbol is present, I have no connection at all.

It seems that not every provider supports the option to auto configure your APN if you do a new one. Had you to set the APN manually when you set up your built?

no, I never touched APN settings. All setted up automatically, both Internet, Wap and MMS apn were already there when I checked.

I was happily using my shipped Cingular ROM here in Australia on a Telstra SIM.
So of course I had to try to upgrade to the new ROM. :-(
Now I CANNOT get the telsra.wap configured to make a 3G connection.
I put the Cingular/ATT SIM card back in and the 3G connected just fine (slow, as usual so the phone is physically working.
I checked the Wiki/FAQ's and there are no cabs for setting the communications stuff for Oz/Telstra.
Can anyone help? I am at wits freaking end - mostly because this is a self inflicted wound.
I am ready to pay in cookies or cash!
I have provided the setup instructions from Telstra below - they all seemed to work fine. The WAP proxy has a hard coded Port=9201 in it, and there is a hard-coded apac-nc02;1080 in the Socks.
I have NOT deleted the Cingular/ATT supplied MediaNet.
When I connect through Telstra Internet the connection seems to get made (it does not return an error) but no web pages are available. I have not tried other internet connections.

Im pretty sure its got something to do with Telstra using NextG???? (or something to that effect).......i think i read that they use UMTS850....not 800 but there is a way to fix it......il raise the issue in IRC and see what happens.
EDIT:: try this

Holy MOG.
I think I followed that (I was technical back in the PDP/8 days....) - what are the odds of bricking my phone doing that?
I get that I need a registry editor (can find that again in the FAQ's) but what is this extended ROM stuff?
Thanks!
err ok telstra isnt running proper 3G yet, its a slightly modified CDMA 2. thats why they could get the network running faster than they first announced.
proper 3G wont be available till the end of the year, as far as the public is concerned though its running now although technically speaking its more like 2.75G
that might have something to do with it ?
What I find confusing was that on my previous ROM with the Telstra SIM I got the "U" for UTMS and got pretty darn fast action. (In Brisbane, if that matters.)
Now I can put in my AT&T SIM and get ok-ish speed with a "G", but since I never tried my AT&T SIM before I can't say if that is better/worse/same.
And when I put in my Telstra SIM I get the "3G" but since I don't have data yet I can't say what the xmit speed is like.
I've downloaded the regedit thing and will take a whack at that.
This must be how my parents feel when they get .dll problems on their windows box.
Ok, so I did the suggested registry edits, double checked them, put down my scotch (kidding, it's 11am here!), and tried the internet again.
I still get the "3G" logo with the <-/-> arrows but after it says connecting it comes back with a IE error: The page yo uare looking for cannot be found due to unknown error 0x80088000.
Argh.
Thoughts?
i got standard rom on my hermes on the Australian Telstra network (woot staff rates) i dont get the 3G icon or logo either just the U (Telstra UTMS)

How do you come to this conclusion? Simply because its not being run on 2100Mhz?
I am also stuck with this same problem on 3. My network is always "U" never anything different. Does UTMS mean G and UTMS 3 mean 3G?
noobish i know but my old phone said 3 plain and simple...
Ok, I got the internet working - cannot tell if it is faster/slower than before I flashed the ROM - probably I am just too darn relieved to have it working again at all!
I'll do a hard reset and verify that these are the settings (did not have to do the hack on the registry!). They do differ from Telstra's reccy's. Of course.
Thanks again to everyone who tried to help!

Could you be more specific in your claims? How do you claim to read these project plans and then not be able to tell me how you know its not 'real 3G'.
For your information, Telstra has already been running a seperate CDMA2000 network on the 800Mhz spectrum since Dec 2002. CDMA2000 is considered a '3G' network if it has EVDO.
Telstra's NextG network (completely seperate to the CDMA) is a TRUE UMTS service running on the 850Mhz spectrum. The network theoretically supports 14.4Mpbs, but 3.6Mbps and 1.2Mbps have actually been achieved by users. These speeds alone classify the network as a 3G service.
Check the facts before you define NextG as a modified cdma 2/cdma 2000 or "2.75G" .
gee sorry i only work for them and all yet you seem to know what you are talking about,
i dont care either way being on staff plans rocks when you get free data every month and pay bugger all for the phone.
Look, mate, its obvious you don't have any technical knowledge...

Telstra settings for 3g
Hi all, been down the same road with 3g Telstra.
There is a fix to set up all settings etc fairly easy when flashing with wm6.
1. do your flash...
2. need to edit the bands to allow our phone to use Telstra's frequencys
(see below)
3. run Telstra's own setup cab that they use in the original imate ext_rom
4. just go into settings/phone/band...select "auto" on network type
select "GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(850)"
thats about it
Works for me everytime I've flashed, get wap when its out of range for 3g and get telstra internet 3g every other time
E=Edge average, 3g=Umts=H on connections
notes:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Telstra "odd" bands (must do some reg exports for next time, and to share), use a reg editor like resco's etc
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
(taken from XDA site) if anyone else needs them, This Registry patch works for the Hermes.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting\BandType]
"ItemCount"=dword:00000006
"ItemName1"="Auto"
"ItemName2"="GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(2100)"
"ItemName3"="GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850)"
"ItemName4"="UMTS(2100+800)"
"ItemName5"="GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(2100+850)"
"ItemName6"="GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(850)"
"ItemValue1"=dword:00000000
"ItemValue2"=dword:00000001
"ItemValue3"=dword:00000002
"ItemValue4"=dword:00000003
"ItemValue5"=dword:00000004
"ItemValue6"=dword:00000005
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\UMTS\BandSelection]
"Band"=dword:00000005
You really just need to add ItemName5 and 6, and ItemValue5 and 6, and change the ItemCount from 4 to 6 (as you added two options) using your favorite Registry Editor.
Do a soft reboot of the phone. Now you can select the NextG option GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(850)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. copy the telstra cab onto your phone then run, this sets up the Telstra Wap and Teletra Internet connection, as well as the proxy manager.
It does load some other junk onto the system like telstra bussiness etc , but this is easy to delete or move to another start menu group.
sometimes when setting up email accounts and such you may have to fiddle with the programmes "connect with " network setting and point it to :telstra internet or as in my case use "work" connection.
hope this helps
Fadge
yep on that "staff plan", data usage is a killer, and $8 for 3mb is useless for a phone that can do so much...thats my whinge for the day...

So this post doesn't make you think that perhaps i do have more knowledge about the NextG network than you assume?
Its obvious you have no clue about the network. You are yet to back up your claims of the network being 'not real 3G' and a 'highly modified cdma 2' - despite the fact you have read the so called 'project plans'.
And yet you tell me to go to www.whirlpool.com.au (such a reliable source of network build information! *sarcasm*) to prove yourself right.
So i'm still waiting to see how you can make such claims...

sure once you pm me your telstra id number. remember the 2 and 3 digit substitution rule for C and D char cases.
Ok ok, I edited this post because at&t doesn't provide the exact details and there is no thread on here that has all the settings for it.
To get to the connection settings:
Start Menu/Settings/Connections/advanced/select networks/click "new" if media net isn't there or click edit if media net is there/ fill in these settings:
MEdia Net:
General: MEdia Net
Modem:Edit(MEdia Net)/New(Create Media Net):
Name: MEdia Net
Modem:Cellular Line (GPRS , 3G)
Hit next
Access Point name: wap.cingular

Leave first three fields empty(if you know what to put put in but it doesn't really matter)
Hit advanced
Select Use server assigned IP address
Select Use IP Header compression
Servers:
Select Use server assigned address
HIT OK
Hit finished
Proxy Settings:
Select This network connects to the Internet
Select This network uses a proxy server. . . .
Proxy Server: wireless.cingular.com
Hit advanced
Hit HTTP
Port:80
Hit ok
Hit Socks
Server: localhost
Port: 1080
Hit ok
AT&T ISP:
General:AT&T ISP
Modem:Edit(Edit My ISP*Change name to AT&T ISP GPRS*/New(Create AT&T ISP GPRS):

Hit next
Hit next
Access Point name: isp.cingular
Hit next
Leave first three fields empty(if you know what to put put in but it doesn't really matter)
Hit Finish
Hit ok
Your done with the internet settings
Select MEdia Net then its totally done and to test it out go to
http://device.home/(It wouldn't normally work with out the proxy settings)

I am not sure if there is anything new but this didn't work for me. I tried this on my Tilt 2 flashed with Sergio76's The Cell ROM v9.5 AT&T (just has the AT&T dialer and nothing else AT&T). I had used a cab that fixed all of the settings to what's in the post except the AT&T ISP which I took care of no problem. However, when I go to Media Mall and search for an app, I'm told there are no results for my handset. I looked at the device ident in the settings and the IMEI is there but the s/n is wiped and I can't edit it. Maybe with a regedit...I dunno. I haven't had the time to try that. It was an idea. There's something that was wiped off the phone that identified my device to AT&T...maybe some sort of hidden proxy or certificate or simply the s/n. I haven't found any Tilt 2 users so far that are able to or even use the Media Mall so I dunno. If anyone else knows something or has figured this out please clue me in. I wouldn't mind being able to get back to the media mall.
Thanks for any help...

ok, mine is with at&t rom, i guess (i'm new to pocketpc phones so im not sure), so first i did:

Tap the Connections icon.
Tap Add a new modem connection under T-Mo Data.
Enter T-Mo MMS in the Enter a name for the connection field.
Tap to select Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G) from the Select a modem drop down list.

Enter wap.voicestream.com in the Access point name field.
Tap Next.
Tap Finish (leaving all blank)
Then:
Tap Start again.
Tap Messaging.
Tap Messages.
Tap Menu.
Tap MMS Options.
Tap the Servers tab.
There i had AT&T MMS so i deleted it
Tap New.
Enter T-Mo MMS in the Server Name field.
Enter 216.155.165.050 in the Gateway field.
Enter 8080 in the Port number field.
Enter http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms in the Server address field.
Tap to select T-Mo Data from the Connect via drop down list.
Tap DONE
and that worked for me...
Trying again, and again, and again..........
Ok, I've cleared everything on my settings and input exactly (again) these settings. I have noticed that the selection for connections does not have 3G listed, just GPRS. Does that make a difference??

Tap Add a new modem connection under T-Mo Data.
Enter T-Mo MMS in the Enter a name for the connection field.
Tap to select Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G) from the Select a modem drop down list.
Tap Next.
Enter wap.voicestream.com in the Access point name field.
Tap Next.
Tap Finish (leaving all blank)
Then:
Tap Start again.
Tap Messaging.
Tap Messages.
Tap Menu.
Tap MMS Options.
Tap the Servers tab.
There i had AT&T MMS so i deleted it
Tap New.
Enter T-Mo MMS in the Server Name field.
Enter 216.155.165.050 in the Gateway field.

no...it should not...it is just about the speed (gprs - slowest, hpsdpa - fastest)
other way (this is what i did) - install a new ROM for yourself...i got my new Duttys ROM and it is great, a lot of faster and it downloads settings automatically.
Sounds good
Ok, where?? will it take long??

it takes about 15-25 minutes.
if you don't want to read this - http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=DuttySeriesKaiser
(you should if you want to know what's going on)
you can download this file first:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=53280&d=1191643466
(it is from that thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334679)
if it won't install correctly (white screen) you also have to download and install this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=354061
then you should do a backup of your files
and when you install HARDspl you have to install this:
http://www.4shared.com/account/file...ficial_WM61_Release.html?sId=njZCc1kfvTkcmXjJ
then perform a hard reset and that's it, you'll have a new ROM on your device
and the end you probably will have to install one of the compatible radios, for ex this ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Kaiser/Radio/KAIS_Radio_Only_1.64.08.21_CustomRUU.rar
and that's it..
if you have any questions try looking at the second post here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=369505 or send me PM. i learned all the stuff yesterday so i'm still a newbie here, but everything works great on my kaiser so far. (finally)
you have t-mobile, so i thought you had a wing.. but, you said you said you have if a herald. either way, neither of them have a 3g chip... i think.
your herald & t-mobile should use gprs and edge.. no 3g.. and definitely not 3.5 g(hsdpa).. for mms i believe it connects to gprs
if you have network wizard... look here
start --> settings --> connections --> network wizard
start --> programs --> network wizard
might be in one of those
if you have the stock rom and it's not there..
then try this..
you will select your country and your carrier.. and it will set up your data / network connections for you.
HTC Network Wizard v1.0 Build 29982.1.0.1.7
i think there's a newer one, but that one should work.
that also maybe useful: http://tmobileuspublic.wdsglobal.com/phonefirst
Hi all,
Got my HD2 yesterday and have been busy doing the various tweaks, regedits etc and so far so good.
However ive run into my first real problem. I cannot bluetooth data to my wifes phone and i also cannot send sms with audio or video attachments.
I get a dialling connection popping up advising that its trying to dial from "mobile" and i have an option to "dismiss" but the message keeps popping up until i finally get a message saying that the original sms failed to send.
I can send normal sms and emails fine. Just sms with file attachments fail me.
Any ideas?
BTW im with o2!
Sms with file attachment, do you mean maybe MMS?

LMAO yeah sorry!
Not got my brain engaged today!
its probably something to do with the MMS settings. check with your network make sure they're correct. Its rare, but sometimes a network will change settings and HTCs defaults will be out of date.
As for bluetooth, try pairing the devices using a simple 4 numerical password, complex passwords can be incompatible with some devices. Also try reversing which device is host/visible....I hate bluetooth sometimes
Think i have the settings from another site.
Now ive no idea where to go on my hd2 to input all the settings?
Anyone give me a pointer as to where i configure the mms?
Tut tut, no-one ever reads the manual anymore
One trick you could try (assuming you can connect to the internet over the phone) is update the database of settings on the phone. Scroll over to the settings menu > Wireless Controls > Data Connection, Make sure you have the correct country and network selected already. If so click Menu > Update Database> Update Database. Reboot your phone and see if it works.
Ok assuming that didn't work and you still having MMS problems you can check your MMS settings by scrolling over to the SMS/MMS menu > All Messages>Menu>Settings>Options>Menu>MMS Server. Select the server you want to use or make a new server, you can input your MMS settings in there.
I have the following config in my mms settings for o2:
Server name: 02 active MMS
IP address: 193.113.200.195
Port No: 8080
Server address: http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
Connect via; o2 active
Send limit: 300KB
WAP Version: WAP 2.0
When i try and send an mms the following happens:
Popup box saying:
Cannot connect
Dialed:
Cannot connect for an unknown reason (then loads of other txt)
and then 2 options at the bottom a blue "settings" link and a "dismiss" option.
When i click on settings it takes me to a connections menu where i the following options:
My work network:
Add a modem connection
Add a new vpn server connection
setup my proxy server
Manage existing connections
and then 2 tabs at the bottom for tasks and advanced.

I've got exactly the same settings as you, and it just worked for me. Check with O2 - they may have a problem at their end, or something switched off for you.
Well ive got a 16gb card coming this week so once i get that im going to do a hard reset and set everything up properly (just been messing so far) and then see what happens. If not then ill phone o2.
I forgot to mention that i inputted those settings but in the "connect via:" drop down menu i have no option for "o2 active"
I just have work network, mms network, home network etc.

Did you try letting the phone set up your connection settings for you, as suggested by jagnet?

I don't really know what to say. I just followed his instructions word for word, and it worked fine for me. Where are you having trouble? At the first instruction, or part way through? How far do you get before you get something you can't do?
When i click on data connection i get the same error msg pop up saying "cannot connect"
then options to dismiss or a blue settings link
Ok now sorted. I deleted all my mms settings, went to data connection under wireless controls, made sure it was set to UK and o2 post pay and then made sure auto configuration was selected.
It updated my settings, just rebooted and tried an mms and all working fine!

Okay, this sounds like it's a data connection issue, rather than an MMS issue, as clicking "Data connection" will simply try to turn it on (if it's off).
Try this and let me know how you get on...
Go to settings tab, click Menu, All Settings, Connections, Connection Setup.
Make sure that the correct country and O2 are selected and click OK.
See if you still have the same problem.
If you do, I suspect that you can't do this next step, but it's worth a try.
Go to settings tab, click Menu, All Settings, Connections, Connection Setup, Menu, Update Database, Update Database, Yes.
It should either tell you that your settings have been updated, or that you already have the most updated settings.
If it said they've been updated, go back to the country and provider screen, make sure it's the right selections and click OK.

The one thing that was throwing me was this part:
Go to settings tab, click Menu, All Settings, Connections, Connection Setup, Menu, Update Database, Update Database, Yes.
I dont have that option under the menu. I just get:
Enable Auto Configuration
About
Exit

Very strange - I don't know why that would be. It's a way to ensure that you have the latest settings for your provider, and obviously quite useful when you have connection issues.
Never heard of it not being available though. At least you got the problem sorted without needing it!
Where do you add new APN settings? I went to all settings/connections/connections but don't see any place to insert all the APN settings..?
Original post:
HD2 noobie here. Have it unlocked on AT&T. Phone/SMS all work fine. I don't get any internet(mail, facebook, marketplace, etc.) unless I'm on wifi. I realize being on AT&T I can only get edge(which is fine). I've been on a tmobile phone(G1 on edge prior to getting this phone) since last year with no problems. I figured it was my sim card. I took my old G1 and put my sim in there, works no problems. Also put a different sim card under my account(my dads) in my HD2, same problem. I've narroed it down to the HD2 itself but I have no clue what could be keeping it from getting on edge/internet.
I get a 'Cannot COnnect'' error that says:
Cannot connect for an unknown reason. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap settings. If the problem continues, reset your mobile device according to your manufactuerer's documentation and try again.

Any idea? Maybe someone with AT&T has seen this problem before.
Cheers
Your APN settings are wrong; if you have a TMOUS or Telstra HD2 it won't have AT&T settings on it, you need to create new connection profiles with AT&T settings.
I'm assuming it uses the same APN settings as my G1 on AT&T did? But where the heck do I enter new APN settings at on this phone?
I've looked everywhere for APN settings. Can anyone help please?
settings - all settings - connections - connections
I have tried that and saw NOTHING about APN settings.
updated title. still can't figure this out. surely there are AT&T users on here that had to do this

settings tab - menu - all settings - connections - connections - add a new modem connection - name - cellular line(gprs) then fill in the rest with the at&t access point name and such like.
Then, when you have the modem created, go back to the connections - connections screen, jump to advanced tab, click select networks - and set the top option to your at&t data you just set up.

Please help me set up the APN for t-zones and mms. I have a T-Mobile unlocked HD2 that I flashed to android. I went to settings-wireless & networks-mobile networks-access point names. When I hit Access Point Names, there are no options in it, just a black screen with APN on top so I cannot add anything. How do I set up my T-mobile MMS and t-zones settings? I looked everywhere and could not find a solution. Please help!!!!
