should I return my Vibrant? - Vibrant General

Its my 5th days using the Vibrant and I am still within 14 days return window. Number of issues keep me thinking just return the device for full refund. I have been using my jailbreak/unlock iphone 3g for years and fine. Pros and Cons against using the iphone 3G.
Cons.
1. GPS/Compass does not work most the time regardless of the few fixes I tried. I need to use GPS often and iphone GPS never had single issue. I can live without compass.
2. No skype, I am a regular skype user and need to use the app. I know there is a skype app out there kinda sort of works. But I need something official.
3. Battery life seems only last less than a day and charge to full takes longer time compare to iphone.
4. I am not a gamer but iphone games seem much more better.
Pros.
1. I get nice 3G speed at home and no longer need to WiFi to home network.
2. I only paid $150 after rebate when I am only 16 months into the contact.
3. Its a lot faster than the iphone 3G, data faster, processor faster. No lags so far.
4. Barnacle WiFi on 3G is nice although iphone have MyWi but I never could get 3G speed. Just hope the MTU issue will fix soon rather than keep twisting the client MTU.
If I return this phone, then I can try T-Mobile's first HSPA+ Phone... whatever phone that is... hhmmm.... what should I do?

There is an "official" Skype app.
Edit: Nevermind, I didn't know it only works on Verizon phones.

I love mine. Do what you need. .. nothing beats this IMO. GPS work's great for me and its just awesome. Try nova for games, also asphalt 5, modern sandstorm, hero of Sparta. Etc.
Don't know what to tell ya, I love mine.

The Vibrant then back to an iPhone 3G? Really?
That's a total downgrade.
What area are you in that's giving you the GPS problems? Maybe you should try to find someone in your area with the Vibrant and see if they are having issues too...
The funny thing is, it's working just fine for a lot of us....
But dang really? 3G is like minor league compared to the Vibrant. Trust me I know, I've had the 2G since day one, 3G's (2 of them) and the 3GS (2 of them)...never again will I submit myself to communist apple phones. Only macbook pros

I was in the same boat as you and found out I had a defective device. I exchanged mine on the 13th day to give it one more try, the new phone is performs flawlessly, except for the gps would take a little longer to find a satellite until I performed the second fix now its fine. I don't use Gps that much so its not a big deal for me. The battery will be the same as all high end smartphones especially with that awesome screen. I usually unplug the phone at 7:30am and it last until 11pm at night, mind you I make a few calls mostly its games and streaming podcasts and heavy web usage. As for the games there are many out there but not available on the market for some reason. If you decide to keep the phone pm me and I will tell where to get them.

How much do you trust Samsung?
For me, the risk boils down to whether to trust Samsung to fix the GPS. At least there now has been quasi-official (is a tweet official?) acknowledgement from the manufacturer that there is problem and it is being worked on. The conventional wisdom is that there will be a firmware update, and that it will cure the problem. But there are no official promises of a complete solution.
I am not yet convinced that the GPS problem is entirely a firmware problem, and Samsung has not said so officially. If the underlying problem is unreliable output from the new combo GPS chip, then a firmware update may not fix the root cause, but only mitigate the symptoms.
It does not seem likely that we will know the answer to that before the 14 days run out for the OP (and for me.) One option is to return the phone for a refund, then buy another later if there is good news on a real GPS fix. I, too, got a pretty decent deal, in my case on a T-Mobile upgrade from a G1. I might not get such a good deal later on a repurchase, but the marginal upfront cost should not be the determining factor. This is a two-year commitment, and I would hate to be stuck with a defective GPS on this high-end device.

Well articulated and way of putting that across and I would have to agree. Samsung went fairly all out on all the specs on this phone (some argue they could have made the case metal a la iPhone but the lightness is amazing in my eyes, less weight equals less impact when I drop it) and it would be quite a shame to see the actual gps hardware to be defective. I doubt that it is truly, and would be very surprised if it is not addressed within the first ota firmware update. Truly the only way is up from here on this phone.

Your money, you decide.

So thanks to a fat tax check clearing my bank, I can afford sinking what I consider far too much money for a phone--specifically the N1(AT&T.)
But I can't sit back and see exactly how badly the next 3 versions of android phone AT&T will release. Service wise, it's a good company, but in terms of products offered, they're in too deep with contractual obligations to get a smartphone that does what most people want. Updates are virtually non-existent unless it's an iPhone. So the more I think of it, the more likely I'll be happier doing the N1 unsub'd.
I've read a few reports on battery life and it seems that it's about the same as the iphone in terms of a day's lifespan or less. (the wife has one--traitor. ) Radio, the mileage varies based on location--normal. Rooting kills the warranty, but not all that needed--yet. None of this stuff is sending up any red flags to not pour more money into the Chocolate Factory and their uber-phone.
Anyone pick up the desktop/nightstand cradle and what do you think of it? Heard there's a car version as well that snaps into maps when the N1 is docked. Is that available, think it's worth it, where do you get it?
Edit: Oh, yeah--engraved case for free (but forfeit money back refund) What to put on that - "Give me Android AND give me FREEDOM!" lol Prob just leave that well enough alone though. (Not all that narcissistic)
Talk me in or out of it before I click the confirm button. Oh, and what's the eta for std shipping? (thinking about actually doing next day if the option is there.)
Thanks
A recommendation? Simples... do it.
Google ships all Nexus Ones overnight for free.
This is hands down the best phone I have ever owned. What's not to love about it?
Apps you want, features you want, and if it's missing anything you do want, root it and make it do whatever you want to. Google Navigation is awesome as well. It has completely replaced TomTom for me.

Battery life is on par with every other smart phone I've owned (3x HTC windows mobile handsets).
I rooted my T-Mo N1, but haven't rooted my AT&T N1. The benefits really didn't warrant voiding the warranty for me (especially as you can't get insurance on the device on AT&T - I had insurance with T-Mo). I've used PDANet with Windows mobile and had no problem purchasing the Android version (although there is a free version that doesn't do HTTPS) for use to tether when I need it (infrequently when traveling).
I do have the desktop dock and like it quite a bit. It's nice not to have to plug/unplug the USB constantly - the drop in is quite convenient. It works well as a nightstand also.
The car dock is not out yet from Google.
I am happier with this phone than any other phone I've owned. Not being stuck behind a manufacturer modification (MotoBLUR or Sense) will also mean that updates shouldn't get stalled the way they do for other devices.
Go for it...you will be in heaven!
Ok, so patience ran out. I clicked the button. For S&G's I picked up the cradle for the $45 extra after all I already use my current phone as an alarm clock so might as well.
As for the car dock, it's supposedly going to be released soon, but not currently out yet. Future purchase I suppose.
Anyone want to but a pair of Epix's? (my old one and the wifes and both just had the crappy touch screen replaced over the last couple of days.)

What phone are you using now?
Sell it and that way the $529 is much easier to think about.
I sold my G1 so my N1 was effectively only $400
Oh, of course the sale of my old POS Epix will go towards the cost of one of these. But the real question is, do I offload now or wait a couple weeks (or months at this rate) for the official WM6.5 update? Wife's is stock standard while I already have Trashcan's 6.5 installed and both will most likely hit fleabay.
I hope you have better luck than me.I had my Nexus One for 5 days,I sold it after that.....worse signal ever...it was driving crazy fluctuating all the time, losing signal.I am sure the AT&T version is better.
I called Google customer service and they told me that the N1 is searching for the strongest signal whereas the G1 is always searching for 3G,whatever....I just wanted a good phone, that's all.I was even losing signal in my bedroom,my bed is by the windows and the freaking phone was going from EDGE to 3G to no signal all the time.
I have seen a lot of comments and videos of people with the same issues.I am sure you will enjoy it the phone,it is beautiful and fast, but I did not have much luck.

No one wants a WM phone, and even fewer people will in a few months from now. It's a completely dead OS, with Microsoft already openly committed Windows Phone 7. You better sell as fast as you possibly can.

You live in a low T-Mobile coverage area. You were probably also wrapping your hand around the bottom of the phone, which would kill the signal completely in such a low coverage area.

Could be,but this is the first time I come across this regardless of the OS or brand,no signal in my bedroom and the signal fluctuation.
The way I grab and hold the phone....well like anybody does,it is a phone there is no much to explain on how to hold it,to me this phone has been a little bit of a Google's failure,a phone is a phone...communication first, then the cool features.
After the Nexus One I bought a HTC HD2,like you said WinMo is dead I totally agree,I had it for 2 days, there are certain things that Microsoft does not do very well yet, after so many years with their freaking windows mobile it is incredible, plus sometimes you (still) kinda need the stylus and the OS still has those windows 98 looking menus and windows.
So I returned it and got the new mytouch, which is not the best, but after my last experience I think I am going to wait a year and a half until I get a cool device, specially since anything we buy these days is a battery killer.

Use as a phone

Yeah I know, not the first thread on the subject
I am a rather happy owner of a Galaxy Tab for the past 36 hours and I just wanted to share my feelings about the usage as a phone. Until I own it I was pretty much convinced this was going to be my main phone, just a question of being able to use a Bluetooth headset with it.
I am not 100% sure anymore.
First, and probably because it's the first time I use a headset I have found this much less convenient than using a phone (This is hopefully just a question of getting used to it). Can't see who is calling (Yep with the right headset the name will show, I may purchase one, but still wont have the picture), people around can hear much better what you're saying, if if you have to manipulate the tab for whatever reason, given its size you feel clumsy
Second, texting while walking in the street is pretty much more difficult. The Tab is big, easy to drop (Read the few threads around of people who broke their screen). It takes me half a second to take my Touch Pro 2 out of my pocket, get the keyboard out and type some messages while walking. And given its size I nearly never dropped it (And whenever I did it always survived without being wounded ). I am definitely slower with my tab (Plus I have to get used to use an on-screen keyboard, but then yeah on this I guess it's a question of getting used to it)
Third (maybe funny): while in meetings I didn't see anybody raise an eyebrow whenever I was texting with my TP2 (looks a bit like a blackberry and anyway quite discrete) I can see how much attention I draw whenever I answer some txt or emails now ! And with the screen size it make sit easy to see what I ma doing... Not the Tab's neg, but for me kind of a drawback
Last one (This one may make some laugh): I love clubbing, bar hoping, etc... I thought it would fit my back pocket. And it does ! however try dancing with that in your back pocket... That's not gonna work And there is no way I'd leave my phone at the cloak, I need it with me (take phone numbers, give direction to friends, etc...). I'd be better off leaving the Tab in the cloak and still go around with a small device (Even an average sized device like my TP2 handles OK while dancing)
I love the form factor, so easy to carry around, but in the end I understand much better Blackberry's approach with the Playbook, it's probably the best way to go, and I am considering using the Tab as a second device.
However I see the pain ahead... Don't wanna have 2 plans. And that's where it sucks. It seems in many countries you are able to have 2 SIM cards with the same number (With kind of a master device and a slave one). Couldn't find anything similar with AT&T in the US If anybody ever heard of this kind of services.... It would be perfect. Then I can still swap SIM cards but that sucks... (And I guess if you do it 5 times a day you may damage your SIM (If not lose it while dropping it)). Another solution is to tether the phone to the Tab (Great I paid for a 3G Tab for nothing !!) but on that I am quite worried about the battery life of both devices Maybe through Bluetooth rather than Wifi ? Would consume less ? If anybody has an idea... Or could try SIM cloning... But it seems it's not really possible anymore with SIM v2 (And besides if the operator doesn't offer the service described above I guess there will be conflicts between the 2 devices at some stage (Not 100% sure but possible)
Anyway... Don't flame me, would just be happy to exchange on the subject with people who have found solutions, have ideas on the matter, or just inform future buyers
Waoh, zero interest on the subject !
Well, i dont have one, but i can defiantly see where using it as a phone could lead to some problems, even if it does fit in you back pocket. It is interesting that you attempted it though, but pulling it out at meetings...thats priceless

I think the irony is that most of us in Europe wouldn't consider using the Tab as primary phone even though it is a fully functional phone, whereas in the US it's the other way around.

In the UK, we don't have the ability to have multiple SIMs with the same phone number either, but it is far less of an issue compared to the US because we have an extremely competitive market for data.
For example, on T-Mobile in the UK, for £20 (around $32) I can get 6 months worth of mobile internet with 1GB FUP which is ideal for a Tab which doesn't go out and about too often - and there's no overages, just an understanding that they may restrict service if you regularly go over your FUP allowance.
For £10 ($16) a month, I can get truly unlimited internet (excludes tethering) on Giffgaff which is ideal for the more mobile Tab.
When it comes to contracts, I have a mobile broadband contract on 3 that gives me 15GB a month for £15, which allows tethering etc.
I'm planning on heading over to Florida for 6 or 7 weeks early next year, and I'm probably going to get a MiFi of some sort with a T-Mobile Web Connect SIM, but it's going to be a hell of a lot more expensive than something comparable in the UK.
Regards,
Dave

The thing is since not so many people know what it is, it attracts attention... So it's not very discrete, while a small phone you can type your personal messages during meetings people don't really pay attention (Or think you're sending professional messages)

Well... I am European... (Although I live in NY)
US carriers suck for data plans. I lived in japan and HK before where for half the price I got much better service... Definitely for £10 a month I wouldn't even bother thinking about using my phone SIM card in my Tab to take advantage of my unlimited data plan (Which by the way in the SU looks more and more like it will be limited by throttling down once you reach a threshold.............)
Why would you need 2 plans with AT&T tab? I guess you didn't want to flash her.
Your other points are completely valid. It is just a matter of personal opinion/wanting to replace the phone with tab enough. Thanks for sharing!
Here are some workarounds you could investigate:
Try a bluetooth stereo headset with a display.
Use the Sony LiveView and wear as a watch.
Type with a tiny bluetooth keyboard.
Get a separate smartphone with a VNC client. Turn on the mobile hotspot, on your Galaxy Tab, and then control it with the smaller smartphone.
How is the Galaxy Tab's battery life as a phone, by the way?
Thanks for the post. I've been thinking to get the tab to replace my I9000 as the main phone, but after I read your post, I think I'll hold it for a while .....

[Q] - Tempted to purchase - UK

Hi Guys,
I'm at the end of my contract this month, so tempted to get ahold of the Venue Pro. I've seen there are some Firmware issues, so basically I have 2 questions.
1,
Does anyone know where I can get it on a contract in the UK, havent found one yet - or where I can purchase it sim free - preferably contract
2,
How much of a deal breaker is the firmware issue? And how much does it impact the phone
Basically the phone would be perfect - portrait slider is what I need, and WP7 is the dogs.
Cheers Guys
Chris
I love mine. Like you i mainly wanted it for the portrait slider, however i only use it on long emails as the on-screen keyboard is amazing.
I was lucky i guess on issues. I cheaped out and ordered the 8gb with intentions to swap it to 32gb as soon as it arrived, which i did for not only more space but to get around the lockups.
If i had to do it all over again, I "might" have gone with the samsung focus for the better camera since I'm not using the hardware keyboard as much as i thought i would on the DVP. But all in all, i love the look of the phone and it stands out. And it does everything i need it to do.
I might not have much of a voice, but I love my DVP.
I did not experience issues that are expressed on this forum as much. I have not tampered with the registry (well you really cant...) and the only thing i did to modify it was sideload apps using my MS developer license.
Maybe it is because I apparently have the updated firmware?
The people you will find on this forum who stuck around are probably the ones to talk to. I hear domineus has had his since the beginning.

Echo Venelar's statements. I love my Dell. Its really a choice you have to make. You've read the threads. There are people that have received a Dell that just are NOT right...period...there are other people, like myself, who have had little to no problems. Whether one side or the other is in the majority, we'll never know. So, until the fixes are in place and in production, you take that risk...good one...bad one.
Again, like Venelar said, I find myself almost never using the keyboard...almost as in once or twice in 7 months....But, I could not bring myself to get the Focus. Not a Samsung fan for design...and it appeared they had hardware issues that impacted the update ability.
One of the more attractive phones in Europe was said to be the Omnia 7. Don't know if thats available in the UK, but you may want to look it up. Also, the Trophy started out slow with staining on the display, but is turning out to be quite popular. It has a good size and feel to it, though lacks the brilliant display of the focus and VP.
Thanks for the feedback guys.
I currently have a HD7 - which I love to bits, but I do spend alot of time emailing / texting ,and I think with the upcoming addition of facebook chat / windows live and facebook messages that I'm going to use the phone alot more for chatting.
I guess I can see what you mean - the WP7 keyboard is really good - far better than my wm6.5 or android keyboards I've had, but as I trained as a touch typist for a previous job 5 years back, I end up typing really fast and I make far too many mistakes on the touch screen.
I've seen the Omnia 7 - that looks good. But, I'd probably prefer to keep my HD7 over it. But the Dell seems to be a better build quality than the HTC devices - from what I can gather.
Another frustration is that it doesnt appear to be in any of the UK stores - so I just cant get to try it out. I was hoping it would be on a network here, hidden away - I wonder if anyone has found anything out about it?
Thanks again for your input guys - I'll be researching heavily over the next couple of weeks the best way to acquire one of these I think
Hi
I'm based in the UK and have been using my DVP for over 2 months.
1) Haven't seen the phone available directly from carriers yet. I bought mine sim-free from Dell - there are also third parties (e.g. ebuyer.com) selling it significantly cheaper. One thing to be aware of is that many third parties appear to sell the 8GB version whereas Dell sells the 16GB version. You can add a higher-capacity SD card - however, as mentioned above it voids your warranty.
There also seem to be a few websites selling the DVP with a contract, presumably a deal they have put together themselves. If you google 'dell venue pro contract uk', you'll find several. I don't have experience of these sites personally.
2) For my device, the firmware issue basically means that I keep wifi switched off, except for short bursts. With wifi on, the phone becomes unstable. However, with wifi off, I have been using the phone for a couple of months without any crashes or reboots - it has been very stable. Generally, the only time I switch on wifi is to get marketplace updates. Obviously, your mileage may vary.
Personally, I use the hardware keyboard extensively, which was one of my main reasons for choosing the DVP. I find it very comfortable. It doesn't have any cursor keys but that's probably not possible in a portrait keyboard.
Overall, I am happy with my choice of the DVP - it's a very nice device. I wanted a phone with a hardware keyboard, good screen, decent storage capacity and WP7 - the DVP is a perfect fit.
From my perspective, the most positive sign recently is that Dell have finally started communicating re: DVP issues. Much more optimistic now that they are serious about resolving the issues.

Sadly you can only get it from dell. I waited a good bit before ordering my nexus one because of the same thing. I had never purchased a phone without the chance to hold it. I bit the bullet and ordered the nexus one when they announced stock was getting low and it worked out. I couldn't have been happier with that phone. I guess having that experience go well didn't hold me back from getting the online-only DVP.
And yes, the build quality is amazing. Yeah the phone is heavy, but if you've always used phones with hardware keyboards then it's something that you are used to dealing with. The phone is stout, I love it.

Considering a Nexus One

Lately I've been considering buying a new phone. I currently have a G1 unlocked on AT&T which I've been using for a little under a year, but the G1 is starting to show its age with what I believe to be a failing SD card slot and some WiFi issues. My AT&T line has been due for a upgrade for months, but I'm on a family plan and the other members in my family don't want to change anything with the contract, so no upgrade (otherwise, I'd likely already have an Inspire or Infuse). Thus, Ive been looking at getting a Nexus One. The hardware still seems to be quite modern in comparison to some of the low- to mid-range phones coming out today, and the price seems about right (I'm finding them on eBay for ~$200 which is in my price range). However, there are a few things I have questions about:
1. How common are some of the Nexus One hardware issues I've read about, like the power button failure and the screen calibration issues?
2. Is there a major difference between the AMOLED and SLCD versions in terms of build quality or battery life?
3. I don't currently have a data plan on my AT&T line, but I've heard that if you use a Nexus One on AT&T, they will automatically add the 200 MB plan to your account. Is this true?
4. And related to data, if I were to get a T-Mobile 3G-banded Nexus One, is there a noticeable difference between EDGE and 3G speeds? I'm not going to be using my phone to download large files or anything, just some occasional web browsing. Will EDGE be sufficient?
Thanks.
Yeah, I'm considering buying a Nexus One as well (mostly because of the price).
What are the biggest limitations of this phone as of today comparing to let's say Galaxy S II both running Gingerbread?
Thanks.
Edge speeds will be miserable, literally that bad. Get the proper att version if you decide on the nexus one.

1. i got lucky enough to not have a power button issue... i dont even use it. and there are many, many alternatives. you can also use the trackball to wake instead of power button.
2. amoled has better blacks, slcd has better whites; slcd consumes slightly more power. but not enough to notice.
3. don't live in the states. dont know. sorry!
4. EDGE if you're using mobile pages every time... even then its really slow. but you might as well get the AT&T version since its the same size.

speed, camera quality, ffc, gaming quality. pretty much it. no LED/TB notifications... nexus is actually a reasonable size. if you're just using it to call and text, should be fine. with root and cyanogenmod7 a whole world opens up though.

1. I don't have any issue with power button (and I use it very often), maybe they fixed it in latest hw revision
2. AMOLED has dark black and more saturated colors, but N1 panel uses a pentile matrix that slighty reduce the real resolution. SLCD uses always the same power, AMOLED uses more power with white backgrounds: difference is slightly noticeable
3. I don't know
4. EDGE is slow, it could be sufficient if you are patient... 3G (and HSDPA) is far better
Nexus one was my previous phone. Gave it to my wife. She loves it.
Phone is in perfect condition including power button.
The only problem is the touchscreen, multitouch is crap on it. Also every so often it gets your finger location wrong. A quick screen off and then on fixes that though.
Get AT&T version as you will regret it otherwise, Android is best with data.
I personally loved that phone even with its small faults
the screen is very bad outdoors due to the amount of space present bw the touch responsive layer and screen..
indoors its like super amoled.....
outdoors worse than lcd....
and yes in browser in many sites touch is registerd wrongly...
multitouch is bad but with custom roms its good enough
As others said, get the ATT version, edge is sloooow.
But the N1 is a great phone. I've had mine for 18 months and its still perfect, haven't had any problems. In fact, its only getting better with each CM release. (But if power button were to go out, its fixable, or there are not-inconvenient work-arounds.)
Mine is amoled and I really like the screen, even if can't see outdoors -- better color than lcd. Multitouch is better on other phones but doesn't make the phone un-enjoyable or un-usable by any means. Probably wouldn't even notice it, to be honest, if you haven't been on other, newer phones.
The N1 is no where near obsolete, its a great value these days.
Nexus One is still a tier one phone and if I was in your situation Id definately get a N1. Hardware still tier 1,runs all current software silky smooth. The ONLY thing that will make me retire my Nexus One is if the Nexus 3/Prime lives up to all the hype that the Sensation & Evo3D didnt live up to. Once rooted CM7 & MIUI are like previously stated whole new worlds. Nexus Forever......

Getting my N1 next week. At $260, its great value - but the question has been bugging me...
Plan to get to CM 7 immediately
BTW, I'm in india - and the seller on Amazon is mostly shipping vodafone models (from the comments). Can anyone confirm if 3G/HSDPA will work properly in India?
i am also considering of selling my ipod touch 4g and galaxy 5
and than buying this phone...
but is it still worth it?
i mean it is a old phone now...
or should i buy the HTC Desire/HTC Desire HD, isn't that better?
edit: i could get all the phones for like €150/€200 second hand
Just placed my order for a used Nexus One with AT&T 3G on eBay. Hopefully I'll have it by this time next week. Not bad for $200, methinks.

it is sure better than the desire, because you'll have no problems unlocking your nexus while de desire can be tricky to root. Also, you do have capacitiv buttons on the nexus which I prefer over hardware button. And last but not least, the nexus one just looks better..
Concerning the Desire S I can't help you, I habe no experience with that phone.

ok thanks but will i get a dutch language than? and on every site it says that the phone has the ''newest 2.1'' ? but that even doesn't support app2sd???
I guess dutch shouldn't be a problem.
about the version, it is possible, that there isn't the newest version of android for the nexus one, but I would install acustom ROM anyway, like cyanogenmod.com...
My Nexus One shipped yesterday, and if the tracking is correct, it should be here tomorrow. I plan on getting a data plan shortly after getting the phone if AT&T doesn't add one automatically. My question is about data usage. I'm wondering about how much data I'll use a month. Obviously, I'd like to keep it under 200 MB so I can get by on AT&T's $15 plan. Basically, I plan to use the default weather/news app to keep up with the weather and various news feeds. I also will be using the phone to check for mail in my Gmail account. I don't plan on doing too much web browsing (maybe a few web pages here and there if I'm not near WiFi). Aside from browsing, I may do some viewing of Google maps and IRC or IM. I don't think those will use too much data. To those who keep track of their data usage, should I be fine with the 200 MB plan?

Short answer: probably not. Unless you can use wifi networks consistently.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Got my Nexus One last night. I got everything setup (contacts synced from Google, Gmail, Facebook, Twitter, News/Weather setup) and everything seems to be running smoothly. I made sure to dig around the settings of all my apps and was sure to turn off automatic syncing/updating just to be sure they're not constantly updating and using data. I'll likely add the data plan next week at some point.
One thing I'm not sure about is whether I have an AMOLED or SLCD screen. I did notice some slight burn in of some things, like the top notification bar.
Then you have the amoled screen. Its common to have slight burn in of the notification bar on these screens, for example the time am pm, etc. Its not a huge issue to me.
Glad to hear you got your nexus one. I would recommend downloading zdbox from the market, you can use it to track how much data you've used amongst other useful tasks.

Trade my Note for Galaxy Nexus or HTC OneX

Hey folks, First off, I LOVE my note. It's the only reason I stuck it out this long but to make a long story short it almost left my daughter stranded in a very unfamiliar place yesterday. I am currently on T-mobile and as you know we don't get much love as far as service with the Note. So I put up with the signal bar with a nice pretty little x in it many times because I flat out love my phone even though my wife would have 4 bars of 4g. Well this incident made me realize that while having an awesome phone that barely works as a phone or just about anything else without wifi that having service and signal is more important. So here is what I'm looking for:
Trade: My unlocked galaxy note (Currently running Asylum ICS V09) with black speck case and has liquid armor for display protection.
Want: Galaxy Nexus or and HTC One X ( maybe S for T-mobile as well )
Also willing to sell for $400 flat ( Nothing less will be considered )
So before I go to the craigslist or feebay I wanted to give my trusted XDA people a first shot at it So PM me if interested!
Hopefully I will be seeing you guys in the Note 2 forums one day as I will be dying to get my big momma back
seeing that many people complain about this, let me get it straight,:
can you not use an international unlocked phone in the states? why is everyone complaining about weak signal? it should either work on that frequency or not work at all ,right? so why work with low coverage?
either ways this sucks and is totally unacceptable

Its not that it doesn't work. It's that it doesn't receive the 1700mHz band which T-mobile uses for it's 4g service. It will work fine on other gsm providers in US but unfortunately not on T-mobile until they convert to the 1900mHz band. So I pretty much get Edge wherever I'm at. One of our guys Bedwa has been working hard on getting it to work but there is no guarantees.
that should effect the speed not signal bars? I mean EDGE vs 4G is all about speeds
but you mention being with no coverage at all sometimes ? maybe their 4G coverage is better than 2G? is that it?
also I would suggest you change providers and not the phone ,cause you'll miss it

I used to work for AT&T so I refuse to go back to them lol. I know I will miss this beast, and I don't know the ins and outs of signal strength, I just know my wife has great service and laughs at me when I can barely send a text. If I wasn't invested into 3 lines of 2 year contracts with T-mobile however I would be gone in a heartbeat but I don't have the funds to quit right this minute. So I will reluctantly wait for the Note 2 and be back as soon as it releases
well then, good luck to you sir in buying your next phone
Both are good choices. If you like a pure experience go for the Nexus, if you like Sense go for the HTC One X.

Yeah, I did quite a bit of research before I decided what I would "step down" to before I posted. I actually like both devices very much. They both have their own advantages and disadvantages that I can easily work with. So like I said, if anyone knows someone who has either device but wants to get their hand on a note. Im up for the transaction
If I were you I would avoid the One X. The reason I got my note was because of HTC's ineptitude.
I PM'ed you.
OP, maybe the phone is faulty? What is your location? If you have any older Android phones, put your sim card in it, and force the Android phone to stick to EDGE/2G connections only to test the signal. If your older Android phone gets a single just fine, something is wrong with your Note.
I'm in the same predicament as you in terms of being on T-Mobile. Thankfully, I'm always within the area of WIFI. In terms of GPS, I just use the lab feature in googlemaps to precache map areas....and it works!
P.S. Open a thread in the marketplace. And be wary of anyone "PM-ing" you. Take the whole sale to the marketplace before doing anything just to be safe. And pay attention to any offers you get, and the person who is making the offer and their joining date. Good luck.
I just got hold of a Note after getting the One X. I wasn't entirely happy with the One so it will be going on ebay. The One has a great screen, and the f2.0 camera lens made taking low light photos easy. The downsides of the phone however are numerous in my opinion.
Design - the layout makes it hard to wake the phone one handed, as the power button is tiny and the capacitive home button doesn't wake it. The front camera is recessed, which makes it a grime magnet. The rear camera protrudes, making it a scratch magnet
Camera - excellent lens and camera app, average at best sensor (I actually think the Note takes better photos), poor quality HD video
Sound - forget all the Beats audio marketing hype, the One X has the worst sound quality out of any phone I've ever owned. The amount of hiss/crackles coming from the DAC make it sound like a long wave radio. I use my phone a lot for music, so this really put me off the One X.
Battery - in standard form the battery was terrible. The only way I could get a full day from it was to install a custom rom, reduce the auto brightness levels (which are blindingly high by default), turn off all push notifications and disable 2 of the 4 cpu cores. It also took 4 hours to charge!
Performance - very quick, but probably too quick for what the hardware can take. The phone gets incredibly hot when gaming to the point where the screen is almost too hot to touch. If you try and game while it's charging, you'll be greeted with a message telling you the phone is too hot and whatever you're playing will be terminated.
All these things made me try the Note. While it's not as snappy as the X and doesn't have a screen that's as nice as the X, it still performs well, still has a decent screen, better designed, has much better audio and has a phenomenal battery.
I think I'll be sticking with it
I use my note on tmobile I always have service sometimes I notice 1 bar but mostly have 3

Yeah I checked into all that. When I am at my buddies house I get perfect 4g service. I just can't stand the edge stuff. However I did not realize you could pre cache map data. That's awesome!! So thanks for heads up
The problem sounds like T-Mobile. Why not use your phone on Straight Talk, which is basically AT&T. I get excellent service on my Note. I highly recommend any AT&T compatible phone on Straight Talk. My wifes iPhone 4S works great on it as well. $45 a month unlimited everything, 4G speeds, not like T-Mobile's very slow speeds.
