Droidxroot - Nexus One General

Cant a son one help to make this work on a nexus please the unroot work because it reboot my device
http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/Root-your-DROID-X-with-just-one-click-article-a_12527.html

Why are you using a droidxroot on the nexus one? Do you really want to brick your phone?

Those options should be labeled "Brick Me"

lol oh my god this guy's english is horrible. not to be mean but if we could understand u from other posts and have a little common sense, you would know that a DROID X root WILL NOT root you NEXUS ONE. DROID X, NEXUS ONE. MOTOROLA, HTC. not the same. like other members said, you r just playing with fire if youre gonna try this. if you dont have the common sense to know the difference between the two devices and are using root tutorials that are not meant for your phone, please just give me the phone before you damage it or i will break into your house like i was child services and take that phone away from u n give it a loving home....my home to be exact

since i was mean in my first post, here follow one of these:

Dude, seriously, just step away from the computer before you break something. I have seen numerous posts that have tried to help you root your N1, and every time, you tell them that it's too hard and that you can't figure it out. It's not that it's too hard, its just that you don't want to spend the time to learn. You don't want to try.
Honestly, I think my 8 year-old cousin could follow the directions on how to root it. It's incredibly simple, just not as simple as a 'one click and you're good to go' thing.
Before you go off and make YET ANOTHER post, read and reread the instructions until they either make sense, or just give up. A stock N1 is still a damn good device.

I don't know much about root with the mytouch 4g Or any phone for that matter A
except that it is considered very very good However it may or may not want a warranty that is where I hear different issues
Could someone clarify the two things first what are the exact benefits I get out of it. would it take me back to what I had on my nexus --basic android. nd
Secondly would it void my warranty? If so is there a way of getting back to the original factory settings where they would not know?
Lastly there is no way I would be able to do this is there anyway of getting anyone else to do it in person or over the computer By giving me instructions I know there is a list of instructions but I was thinking more along the lines of seeing or speaking to someone
I would pay handsomely for this
Thank you and this was typed and sent using Dragon dictation so forgive me for any misspellings or punctuation I correct is almost all spelling and punctuation till the end

1 - Simply rooting the phone would not give you the same setup that you had on your Nexus One, but it would allow you to get there. By rooting the phone, you are getting complete access to every partition on that phone and THAT is what allows changes to be made to the kernel and operating systems (aka ROMs). Unless you are a developer and know how to create your own ROM, you'd have to wait until one is created for us. Right now I believe there is one called Ice or something to that extent. You can check the Development section for that.
2 - Rooting technically does void your warranty, however there are way to get back to the original stock ROM/settings. There are threads in the Development section as well. As with anything that is in unfamiliar territory, take care and precaution when modifying your phone...especially if you use it on a daily basis and aren't sure of the exact steps to take.
Hopefully this was somewhat useful. Good luck!
Allen, and everyone, thank you
Yes, it does help
You say I can wait for one, or do my own, or use one by ??Ice.
Is that the one that was on the net, namely one like this, created by Scotty also?
http://www.intomobile.com/2010/11/11/root-mytouch-4g-install-custom-recovery/
1. Is that safe
2. Is the "flash" the thing that can get you back to factory settings
3. As far as the ? about getting anyone to take baby steps with you in doing this OR somewhere to take the phone to do it, has anyone heard of this.
Lastly, Allen
did you know anything about the phone locking up after a break, when using WiFi (EDIT: Oops thought I mentioned this in the post above. fwiw, anyone know why I can use wifi over the net quite well, using my browser (not to confuse using the wifi calling app, as one gent thought I meant. But then after a brief break, it locks up. even if I switch back to hspa. I have to restart. any ideas?)
Again, Thanks Allen, and all
If the only thing you know about rooting is "its very very good" then my suggestion would be to not do it just to do it.... do your research first, learn the basics and what its all about, yes there are pro's but theres con's. A simple mistake could leave you with a very expensive paper weight. All I'm saying is there's no need to jump in to it. root was around far before android and wont disappear over night. The only thing that I can't stress enough is research research research.

For a beginner developing your own rom would be extremely difficult/almost impossible... no other roms have been released yet except for the ice one but that is the exact same thing as what you have now minus the stock apps
One problem with using other peoples roms is if you can't read the code you really don't know what your putting on your phone... with XDA a decent amount of us can read code and would say something if we found it malicious but what if noone took the time on that specific rom? unless you can read it that just brings me back to you really never know
So I guess that answers your is it safe question... its safe if you know what your doing... and don't get me wrong I'm not tryin to make it sound scary it'll be a 1 in a million shot to find a malicious file on xda but it could happen
2 flash an equal to install ... as installing a rom flashing a rom
3 no idea what you mean

thanks. No, that just about answers it. very well, I might add. I will wait
what i meant, is if there is one that comes out, might there be someone who will walk you thru it, i.e for a newbie either thru chat, phone, or somewhere to take your phone to get it flashed with the new rom
oh ok i see, you would probably not want someone to do it for you because youll need to do it more than once... if someone walks you through it at least you learn how to do it and you'll be able to do it next time (and trust me theres always a next time) if your interested in doing it i pm'd you my aim name and id help you out with it... its really quite simply when its broken down... but like i said before id do some more research on it first and come up with some reason you personally need root access because its importance to other people may not mean anything to you n vice versa.

[Q] what do YOU tell people?

what do you guys tell people who aren't really tech people when they ask about your phone being the way it is? For instance when someone with the same phone as you asks about your freshly flashed screen off animation do you say, " I flashed a .zip I got from xda" or do you say, " It just came like that".
I'm just being a curious cat wondering how other people answer questions.
for the average user they don't understand, so i call it "aftermarket features" and that kind of gets them in the right mindset

haha, it is exactly like that for me! with my other devices i just say o hacked it. haha ppl i know are too dumb nowadays with all the latest gadgets :/
I try to turn everyone I know into a nerd so I say I "hacked" my phone. It usually sparks enough interest that they'll look into it. Some people have paid me to root for them, especially back in the G1 days. Now...almost everyone I know rocks a rooted Android of some sort.
Yea I say I hacked it or its modded.
yeh, ppl are always shocked when they see htc software on my tg01 (sense 2.5)
they are like how did you do that?!
i hacked it
'oh... thats stupid'
why?
'Errr...'
When I had my Hero I tried explaining things to friends/family etc. especially those who had android devices. To my dismay I actually don't know anyone who has taken the time to learn how to liberate their OS from Sprint, or really care about being the administrator of their device.
Anymore if someone notices my android is different than theirs I just say "You're probably too stupid to understand"..
Of course I'm kidding but it is a little disappointing how most people don't care wether or not they "got root"
I say I hacked it. Get a nice side income hacking them for people too

I tell the truth. I will start explaining about root and how manufacturers prefer if you don't have access to certain parts of the operating system. Most people tap out here. If they don't I keep going until they get confused. If that doesn't happen I help them start the rooting process.
So far I got all the way once... and that's pushing it. I helped a guy root his phone, but he didn't really understand much.
I'm the only person that ever sees my phone....I certainly don't try to show off by flashing it everywhere...
I just tell them I updated it with newer & better software.

+1.
blah 10 char
first rule of fight club.....
I can never explain this to people verbaly. I always have to do a physical demonstration and relate to it as a special form of theming. I've only found one person who somewhat understands what it is...and my uncle who knows about 1,000,000,000x what I know about technology lol.
Most people just get really jealous when I explain everything I can do. Then they ask if I'll do it to there phone, I'll tell them to research it themselves THEN ask me to do it, they usually just get frustrated and continue to ***** every time my phone outperforms theirs

Is it possible that wildfire froyo with new hboot will be unrevokable ?

Is it possible that htc is so advanced that they made wildfire with new hboot impossible to be OWN3D by UNREVOKED ?
Will it be ever possible ?
Just curious.

Sorry but i was not asking about "how long do we have to wait...."
I know that they are people like us and they have other stuff to do and they do it free....
I was only asking if this is possible that it now or someday will be too hard...
In the current state of things, I think that it was, it is and it probably always will be a cat-and-mouse game. Remember the TIFF exploit on the PSP. Who would have thought about it? Hacking a console with picture? Seriously.
Despite best practice, there will always be some shortcuts taken and slack programming. Or the plainly unexpectable; rooting through a malformed wifi packet maybe?
The problem we face nowadays is that we have many hungry cats that get impatient for their food.
Having read about the Alpharev and unrevoked, it does look that this is just a question of time.
I think personally (probably because I know nothing on the subject) that making/getting the tools to sign any HBOOT (PS3 style) is the way to go.
I too have a 2.2.1 phone which I bought like this on eBay, and the wait is frustrating to say the least, but I would rather wait a bit more than stare at a brick.
I too have a 2.2.1 wildfire, I was unwittingly duped into thinking updating would make my phone better. < how wrong was I.
Looking at the positive side at least I can research and learn about Android/rooting/custom ROMs before I dive in and perform them. So hopefully no problems when I eventually do manage to root it
The unrevoked team said on the10th that they are working on it. Today we have the 30th and yet still no updates from them. The new security system is probably too good for them and maybe they will not be able to root it....
Look every system can be exploited, Some are easy and some are hard, just give them time. I have 2.2.1 firmware as i got the phone new just over a week ago. I have tried to root it myself and failed (Linux geek maybe) but andriod is new to me so now i am going to wait.
So wait and research on how to use custom roms i am its fun and give the people making the exploits time, they are doing it for free and have normal lifes like the rest of us.
Me to on OTA firmware 2.2.1!
I never root before and android a bit new for me as well.
I had following up xda to learn how to root but now people say my 2.2.1 cannot root unless someone update hboot first.
I would make a small request if it's really kick-off can someone make a video/link (like xda-ians post in SGS) how to root using hboot step-by-step.
Thank you,

Why? We are not saying that when rooting is available, all people must root their phones. There are lots of people now (like me) who updated or bought the phone with 2.2.1 and now we can't root, and I really want to root again to be free to modify some things or overclock, AND CHANGE ROM.
So, there is no reason for what it should stay unrootable.

100% agreed,
If you upgraded, without caring about the risks, you deserve it. If you bought the phone with 2.2 already installed, you are not to be blamed.

You may call me closed minded, it`s your call, but, I think that people need to learn to live with their decisions.
I`m not talking about you (but if you feel targeted, it`s not my problem), but If you don`t think before you act, you need to pay the price. Think of it this way:
Someone gives you a gun, and tells you that you can shoot anyone you want. You take the gun and shoot some people, but the police catches you. You`ll say "but that man told me I could shoot people with my gun, he`s to blame". NO! you are to be blamed, you decided to shoot those people.
Same thing with the 2.2.1 update. HTC gave you the update, but they did not make you install it. YOU installed it! It`s your choice. Consequences? You can`t root (for now). Don`t come around and whine about not being able to root.
The update was leaked 2-3 days before the official release. In all the topics, people said: "don`t flash it, it will kill/make you unable to root", but it was hopeless.
When and update announcement popped up on your phone, what did you do? Did you think"oooooh, it has an OK button, so I bet I must push it!" or did you think "Now, let`s do a little google search, see what is this update all about?"
If you answered the second one, good thing, you`re normal. If you answered the first....... I`m not gonna comment, because you will say that I`m a mean, close-minded man.

First of all, I'm sorry, I didn't really mean to offend. I was saying that you might get in my/our situation or position. The exact reason for what I flashed the 2.2.1 was because I wanted the stability of a complete official ROM to flash the OC kernel. At least to have something stable for sure and then try some new ROMs.
That's my exact case, and each person will have their reasons.
And for the record, I didn't see ANY message about "don't upgrade". You are more "senior member" if you want to say, but I'm not stupid. Could you just accept I made a mistake, as we all do? And now I am quietly waiting for unrevoked bringing the solution, without yelling "unrevoked please/go go go/ **** no unrevoked yet/ etc..."
As I always try to, smile

Currently it cannot be done. The source code for the ROM will be released soon and soon after you will have more ROMS, better kernels and rooting. Until then its a wait period for you. Its good practice to wait after an update (OTA) is released to the wild because you lose root and essentially you are stuck with that ROM until things are released etc.
Hope that helps and welcome to XDA.!
How long....?
I'm a n00b and I know there is no root method with a 2.3 OTA if you are S-On. The bootloader is locked.
Question: Whats a typical time-frame for somebody to do the hack? Days, weeks, Months.
From what I gather and read this work-a-round is going to be harder.
The reason I ask is that I am about to kank my Comcast wireless service. Increased from $26.99 to $49.99. I think I'm better off paying Sprint $30 for the hotspot. I am better off waiting a bit, then root to get the free hotspot tether to work.
FWIW - Maybe there should be a sticky titled "EVO 4G 2.3 Hack Update! - Sprint: 4 , XDA:3" One post per day, saying just "nada, zilch, nothing, - patience grasshoper"
Anything to see the status is No Can Do.
People will be mercilessness with asking the same ridiculous question.

i would say average is a few weeks to a month based on previous ota getting rooted. however google seems to have done a good job at plugging all the holes and it may be considerably longer. no way to know how long really. just depends how much scouring it takes to find an exploit. take the rageagainstthecage exploit, that wasnt discovered until about 6 months after froyo was release iirc
I get aggravated to, but the guy asked the question in a decent enough. non-naab way.
Truth is, if you have 2.3.3 and you're S-on, there is no root, currently.
Give it some time, be patient and use the time to read as much as you can and get an idea of what you want and how you want to set it up once a root method is developed.
Specifically, I'd learn APS2SD/SD Card partitioning, Which ROMS suit your needs the best and how you want to set your screens up

op asked in a manner befitting someone who has not searched or tried to answer for himself hence is why he got some flammage. Schlenkerla, however, asked in an educated and obviously researched way which earned him a proper reply.
no root? How about another option?
ok, i have been reading every single day on how to re-root my evo. Now, im not asking if there is a root method yet, however i need to ask this.
Is is possible to revert the hboot, firmware, to a previous version. I an unable to install a ruu OS because im s-on of course. I would just like to know if there is ANY way to revert back to 2.2 so i can just root the normal way and start flashing roms daily again... It can be complicated, im highly technical, but i cant find anyhting talking about a way to do this.

not possible at this point. the 2.16 hboot will not allow an older version to be flashed.
Crap, that sucks! thanks for the info.
I am guessing the same goes with a factory reset.
Btw - what all does factory reset do?

Forums also don't need the same question asked in 50 different threads.

Or people running around being jerks on it. If a complete stranger asked you the same question for the 50th time in real life would you blow up in their face about it? No. So why would you on the internet? The internet makes people feel empowered to be rude because they aren't face to face. Let's just keep in mind that person on the other end is a human being, and we all are lazy and all don't search for stuff ok?
I can't tell you how many times my husband has said "I can't find the ketchup" and I say "did you look behind the milk?". The answer is always no, but that's where it is!
Maybe its just guys that have the problem with not knowing how to search.

Because if someone asks you a question you've heard over and over, they may not be in a position to do a simple search for the answer before they ask....

Look, I am not a flamer (at least , not where noobs are concerned). I normally just ignore questions that have been answered 1000 times. Believe it or not, I am actually a pretty polite dood, especially to people I don't know. That being said, the thought process that starts with "everybody does it" and ends with "fvk it, i'll just ask instead of bothering to search" is just wrong. Feel free to search through every thread I have ever started and show me were I started a thread asking a question that had already been done to death. Do it. People get flamed because others want the questions to STOP! They WANT noobs to be too afraid of flaming to ask a question. I was gone on vacation, and away from from XDA for basically a solid week. During that vacation, I managed to smash my phone's screen. As soon as I got home, I put in for my replacement, and immediately started searching for root methods for the newest OTA. It took less than 10 minutes to determine that there was no news...with the exception of this, which obviously is not very helpful.
In short: Don't start a new thread unless you are SURE that there is not already a thread about your topic. If you decide to do it anyway, don't complain when you get flamed. It is your own fault. Human nature is no excuse for anything. We are humans and have the power to observe both ourselves and the world around us, and we have the ability to modify our behavior based on those observations. For instance, I was absolutely positive, when I began writing this response, that at least one person would feel the need to flame me for it. Go ahead. I can take it. I put my big-boy pants on.

Root

Has it been made possible to root 2.3.4 as of late?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using xda premium
No. Only downgrading will work. IMO, gingerbread for our phone will never achieve full root and S-off... But I had to downgrade and its not that hard! Go here to downgrade. good luck.
Thanks if I helped
Lol u like your thanks dont you

The galaxy s series is so easy to root and flash ....all done without the need for a computer
Sent from my HTC Glacier using xda premium
Yeah but the mytouch 4g root with a computer is so much more worth it

No, after Gingerbread update you have to use a computer with ODIN to root, and once rooted, it's much more painful to flash the idiotic partition system of Galaxy S, requiring you to reflash bootloaders and kernels from PC before flashing the actual ROMs or even for backup restorations, being unable to flash kernel from recovery - because kernel contains the recovery. Actually, if there is a phone that requires PC almost for any type of flashing - that would be Galaxy S.
IMHO, as stated many times - if you can't follow a simple guide to downgrade and root your MT4G, you shouldn't be rooting anyway.
Lmao what a tard
That reply isnt even worthy of a responce....buckle up

@jack_r1 makes a very valid point. rooting this phone when it had 2.2.x was STUPID easy. Easy and quick enough that i had it rooted before i left the T-Mobile Store, when i bought the phone.
The new method is simple. you downgrade then you use one of two VERY simple methods to root your phone.
If you cannot follow directions and need to rely on a one click root. Either based from the phone or on the PC then you shouldn't be messing with SU access.

That's what a clueless person would say, I guess. If you had ever tried to flash anything on Galaxy S type phone, you'd know. Pretty much all the ROM flashing instructions contain ODIN versions and instructions that require flashing at least bootloaders and mostly kernels too (see "Flash a stock Gingerbread ROM" step as an example), for a reason. Moreover, you can try flashing Gingerbread MIUI and then reverting back without ODIN. Good luck.
And whoever messed with rooting and flashing one phone, if he didn't just have to click "root" button on 1-click-rooter of some kind, but at least to work out ADB, wouldn't be afraid of rooting MT4G. I guess your mouth is going far ahead of your knowledge. It's good that rooting became complicated on all phones, because it keeps dummies from messing with things they don't understand.
This is what happens when one is having a friendly conversation with another and a third party joins in with a ” im better than you complex” and runs his/her trap and makes insults for no apperent reason all in his/her very first post .....if you cant be nice and put in helpful info without insult stay out kiddo......or buckle up and enjoy the ride....I dont care either way I deal with dumbasses on a daily basis and your not gonna find my nerve
lol
I dont let children and childish adults get to me lit-alone on a keyboard
Yes you can root and flash a galaxy s without ever touching a comp.
Yes in some cases odin is required, inwhich involves using a comp.....omg Im so sorry ..... Although that was further along than the conversation I was having with invasion....lol you just wanted to come here and play the ”all knowing” part and the ”im also a cyber tough guy” part wich are both laughable and pathetic at the same time.
Now you can stop your childish anticks and allow hair to grow on your balls or continue crying like a little girl.....either way im done with you youve already waisted enough of my time inwhich im certain you were not worth! :-D
Go ahead, feel free to make another attempt to make yourself feel big and bad.....after all thats what you came here to do in the first place.....and seeins as im giving you the oppertunity to have the last word.......nows your chance to turn it around or fail as you so boldly have.
Have a nice day kiddo
Or should I rephrase:
You posted without searching, one of, if not the most posted question on the forum. Then, when you got the response that indicated you as a not-so-brave person, you tried to start bragging to lift your self-esteem, taking this thread off track. Then, when you understood you've got caught bragging, you've read the regular line that shows on these forums 3 times a week - "if you can't follow the guide, you shouldn't be rooting anyway" as a personal insult - and got all cocky and started name calling. When you got paid with the same money, you still keep being cocky.
The funny thing is that I didn't write to catch you on your bragging, I couldn't care less. I just can't stand wrong info, which you happened to be spilling, so I corrected. This is not a private chatroom, there are no "friendly conversations" here. This is XDA-Developers, not XDA-group-hugging-team.
Waste of time, indeed.
Grow up.

I guess its true.....that with cheap low quality phones comes cheap low quality followers.....have a nice life lol
...why are you not banned yet?
everything Jack_R1 said is absolutely true.
he is a very great helper, and many people respect him. if you don't have the quality of respect, then i'm sorry, but you must not have been taught any morals.
i COMPLETELY disagree with anything you said. Samsung makes the worst products out there. i mean seriously? WHY DO I NEED TO FLASH MY GALAXY S VIA ODIN OR WHATEVER GARBAGE TO GET A NEW ROM??? that's plain crap! pointless. you must not have very good experience with HTC devices.
let me show you how HTC does it:
Rooting
very easy and simple on most devices, main thing is to obtain S-off.
Flashing
even easier.
this procedure goes for every HTC device out there:
reboot to recovery
make a nandroid backup
wipe
flash
DONE.
what about Samsung?
oooh first you gotta flash the "bootloader" or whatever crap, then the "modem", then this, then that via ODIN, and then you gotta do this this and this, THEN you finally reboot into recovery and flash.
i will let you decide which you think is easier, but don't go about saying that i have "no idea what i'm talking about" because i do. my dad has a Galaxy S, and flashing to that device is complete crap. i don't know WHERE you got that info that "flashing to a Galaxy doesn't require a computer". BECAUSE IT DOES.
stupid ODIN...
anyway, back on point. if you think you're so great and pro, maybe YOU can make an easier way to root 2.3.4 Stock MYTOUCH. cause i think a lot of us would appreciate it. maybe then, you'll be worthy enough to be here. because all you've done so far, is fill up xda with your retarded garbage.
have a nice day.
