All,
Upgraded the boss mans HTC Shift™ about 4 months ago thanks to the help I found on here. Things worked well for a while but the other day he came up to me and said he couldn't get it to connect to the AT&T card on the Win7 side of things and the bluetooth mouse wasn't working.
I tried messing with it a bit and found one time that when I disabled the wifi it came on for a second then went away and never came back. When I go under device manager with WIFI on the NDIS thing isn't there. But when I shut off WIFI it shows up under device manager but with the yellow exclamation. It connects fine and works well under win mobile, but not on the Win7 side.
Since it was my idea to upgrade him to Win7 he is holding me responsible for getting this thing back up and running. He's not pleased with what's going on because he's been debating about getting an Ipad but has held off till now because the HTC Shift™ has worked great. He said something about if the Shift™ has to go then I may have to go too =\
Any help would be greatly appreciated ASAP.

Hi Dog****! I'm not a specialist at all, I just bought my Shift a week ago and eversince I've been reading on this forum.
I wonder if using and older restore point of Windows would not bring the Shift to a good working state? If negative, than my advice would be to try by reinstalling in this order the Shift Control Center on the win7 side (the same as for Vista, you can find it on the HTC site), the wifi and BT drivers and in the worst case the whole Win7 (or try a repair). And if bringing it back to the good working state, then make an image of it and keep it somewhere safe.
Please note that the 3G data modem (for AT&T?) is implemented on the SnapVue side, while the wifi and BT are on the Win7 side only. One can call the 3G data modem from both Snapvue and Win7 sides, but only after installing the Control Center, while the wifi or BT modems can be used only on Win7 side.
Is this Shift "liberated" as described on this forum? But this has nothing to do with the non-working wifi.
Best of luck!
First off thank you for the response.
I never thought about the system restore, I am running that right now as I type this. However you mentioned that the ATT runs on the winmobile side but not the Win7 side. I'm not sure if I get what you mean because when I had first set this up a while ago the ATT was working fine on both sides, only recently did it stop working on the Win7 side, but it still works on WinMobile.
For now I will just hope the system restore works as it seems my job is depending on this
If anyone else has seen this before or has any ideas please chime in, I will update this tomorrow when I see if the system restore works.
Excellent... I made some progress.
I did a system restore to a point about a month or 2 back. I booted it back up and went to the shift control center and noticed that now the WIFI (normally on by default) was off as well as the ATT. I enabled the ATT and waited for a few seconds. I then closed the SCC and went back to Win7. As soon as I went to Win7 I noticed the bluetooth mouse was back and working. I checked device manager and the NDIS internet sharing device was in the network adapters list and seemed to be good. I launched IE and low and behold there was google in all its glory.
I rebooted it and found that it all works as long as I launch the SCC and turn on the ATT.
I showed this to the boss man and he asked if there was a way to have the SCC launch on startup. I found the startup folder and dropped a copy of the SCC exe in there but it doesn't launch on reboot. I'll be playing with this for a bit but to sum things up I think the automatic updates are what phucked things up. The restore point rolled back the updates and I shut off automatic updates so hopefully this will take care of it till HTC starts supporting Win7 on the Shift™.
Looks like I still have a job for a little longer

I have searched this and other forums and have not seen either this problem or an answer to it. Per AT&T's suggestion, I just upgraded to the new AT&T rom version that adds PTT and seems to have big problems. My current issue is that when I first boot up and connect via GPRS/3G all works well. When I get to a wifi area and switch to wifi, again all works well. However when I leave the wifi area (or just turn off wifi) I can't get any data via GPRS/3G. The balloon comes up saying it is connecting. The little "G" and bidirectional arrows in the top left indicate it is connected. However in the browser, it just continues to grind away with "Locating" in the bottom right corner until it finally times out and puts up a screen that says that the "page cannot be displayed because the connection was lost". I open the connection manager and press and hold the "Data Connection" icon until that goes off and try again, same problem. The only way I can get GPRS/3G data connection to actually work again is to reboot. Any ideas what is going on or how this can be fixed? Forgot to add that this is an HTC 8525. Thanks.
From your description I wasn't able determine whether AT&T's suggestion was aimed at remedying the issue, or if it's something that came about with the update.
Assuming the latter, you may want to try a hard reset first and run it for a bit before loading any other apps. Failing that, reflash the ROM. I had a lot of trouble with my radio when my 8525 was new, but it mysteriously cleared up after a few radio flashes.
Thanks but still a problem
Thanks for your thoughts here. I hard reset and reflashed.
Yes the firmware is the latest one that AT&T has suggested that everyone who had the older Cingular phones upgrade to. It provides the AT&T logo, the "push to talk" feature, and some other junk. I have contacted AT&T about this and their response was to send me a new phone that they claimed had the old firmware, since they have been getting a lot of complaints about the new firmware. It didn't have the old firmware and also it's SIM card reader appears to be broken. I called HTC and they said that they too have had lots of complaints about the new firmware quirks but had nothing to offer to solve them. Anyway, the old firmware had no problem switching between wifi and CGRS so I don't think it is in the hardware. On the other hand I'm surprised that nobody else is encountering the problem from the upgrade.
I'm having the same prob. Purchase three of these phones and the other users have little technical expertise. First I set up a sync with my office PC. Then loaded the ROM update. I run MAC's @ home had difficulty connecting to my home wifi. Finally determined that the 8525 would not accept the 13 key ASCII wep password. Needed to use the HEX. So I connected. Went to work and had problems syncing with my PC. Active sync had to rediscover the device. Now I'm back home and can't connect again. My Device ID changed names upon "resyncing" and I updated the Airport Base Station with my new name. I've spent a lot of time on this issue.. Maybe I need to send em back for an iPhone!
Well I found a solution to it
This is a great forum - though somewhat hard to search through thoroughly. Anyway the solution for me was to go back to ROM 1.34. Found how to do that through flashing from the micro card at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311704&highlight=cingular+8525+rom+version and getting the production ROM version at http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Upgrades. Back to normal - everything works fine. Just for a trial, I also downloaded ROM V2.1.1 and it works find also - but sure seems a bit large - ends up with 42.9M of storage free vs V1.34 that has 50.25. Think I'll try the the memory expansion process at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298327&highlight=want+more+storage. That seems to at least provide a more than 9 megabyte smaller MBH file but I don't know what that translates to in memory usage yet.
Suspect there is a way to fix this problem but I haven't seen anything in the forums on it.
Has anybody else got any problems at the moment. About a week ago I upgraded my Radio to 1.43, and for the first time I decided to test my GPRS connection.
Now, if I launch Pocket IE, it connects to GPRS (i've got 3g disabled), and just sits there "locating", and eventually times out with "The page cannot be displayed or downloaded because the connection was lost".
I'm in a strong signal area and never had problems before. As a check I updated to radio 1.46, but still the same issue.
It isn't just PIE, it's opera and newsbreak as well, so a definite internet connection issue.
Any guesses of what to check for ?
I had major problems yesterday (Kent and London) but all seems ok today.
thanks for the reply. Maybe the problem has shifted to my neck of the woods, hampshire
So upgrading the radio should not have caused any problems ? I was going to start looking for the link to take the phone back to the one it came with...
seems to be working now, although a bit hit and miss
I've been having trouble this morning in Surrey/Hants/Berkshire border area. I'd just installed a new version of WLM so I thought it was that!
Seems better now, but still a bit hit and miss.
I guess they must be working on it at the mo (hopefully)!

glad to hear (in a way), that it's not just me. Oh well, gave me an excuse to upgrade the radio again. Hopefully it will sort itself out soon.
Mine yesterday coincided with installing the Black Majik rom and I was beginning to do my nut
Course, it's not paranoia if they really are out to get us!
mines still not loading webpages, although it had a brief return just before lunch. maybe I'll leave it till tomorrow.
Do T-mobile have some kind of status pages as per BT/ISPs, to see if there are any current issues ?
Not that I've ever found. If you phone CS then they usually tell you that there are no known issues, then it comes out later that there were, so that's a bit useless.
I'm still having problems. Using WLM with delivery of mail as received, and that is constantly 'reconnecting' then once in a while it reconnects ok and a few emails get through, but it's not 'right' yet.
As you say, best not to do anything hasty, give it a while longer.
worked occasionally last night and tried it first thing this morning.
However, just tried it now and it's down again.
Maybe I'll ring CS anyway and see if anythings happening.
Hmmm, something odd going on with my tytn then.
I thought I'd check the connections section, and went to Proxy server settings. It was ticked, pointing to 149.254.201.32.
As soon as I unticked this and went back to IE, I suddenly had connection again ! However if I go back to connections, it's still ticked !!!?
Any guesses ?
I've recently installed Slingplayer mobile, and I wonder if that is upsetting things ?
* edit * well the IP address is of course t-mobile, but it seems that going in and unticking this resets the connection (even though when you go back to it, the tick is back on). I think it's a sling player issue, as I ran it, and as soon as I tried to reconnect back to GPRS, I couldn't. Then went back in and reset the proxy, and now it's fine. Odd !
hmm, not slingbox then, as when I soft reset the phone it does the same thing, can't connect to the internet via PIE,Opera, Activesync, Newsbreak etc.
Went back into connections and took the proxy off, and then it starts working again.
Have other tmobile users got this proxy address in their connection settings ?
*edit* ok, now found a cab that cleared the tmobile proxy settings/tick and now it's all working fine. Cheers for listening
After reading what seems like random success rates and a series of reasonably large issues should I bother going through potential SP1 hell, or should I just enjoy it as is?
I have these horendous memories of XP SP2...
i did it and it sure did get more unstable, and got the connect/disconnect problem of 3g. i got no performance gain.
my recommendation : wait
I agree. It lasted one day on my Shift before I removed it. I've had no problems since.
No problem whatshowever. Only this is the usbtool which need the RDNIS change, and it's fully working

Hi, thaihugo, can you please advise how you fixed the RDNIS issue? I upgraded SP1 and it is flawless, perfect. But I did it from a totally fresh re-image without any software updates.
I cant seem to keep the 3G connection in Vista Active AND USB connect to WM6 at the same time. I would like to have sync anytime I boot windows and also have 3G access both on the WM6 and Vista.
Any help would be muchly appreciated!
I havent touched SP1 - I need control as good as possible over WM for hacking
Thanks all - I'm going to avoid it for now...no reason to install it. I have patched all the M-$oft KB updates and nothing has crashed and burned on me yet. In fact I've had nil issues to speak of having Liberated the WinMo and fiddled with the services in Vista to improve performance....I'm a very happy Shift user.
cmonex, Budapest is a great place. Went there quite a while ago, maybe '94, '95...things prolly changed a lot since then, but I had the best time...friendly people, beautiful surrounding country side. It helped that I was travelling on the company credit card too - stayed at the Kempinsky (?) Hotel in Pest...very posh.....
OK, When I got my shift (months ago) I liberated it. No problems. I put Vista SP1 on it. No Problems. It synched fine and everything was great. I was about as happy as I was going to get while I await the great guys at the Shift Project to make things better.
On my last trip home I decided it was time to Hard SPL the Shift. I had watch the threads and made sure I knew all the bugs that may happened. SO - I Hard SPLed (once again, big thanks to comex and co). All good. SP1 still worked. I re-liberated the shift. All good. This was about two weeks ago.
Now I have a problem. The shift has never re-synched since Hard SPL. I connect it using USB Tools (all good), there is a partnership and the Shift is recognised and the synch starts, but it never stops. the longest I have left it (in vain hope) is 2 hours.
I have no clue about the problem. The shift is currently:
Vista set to High Performance
Vista plugged in (I only ever synch plugged in)
All Vista updates are up to date and working
Snap Vue is liberated (no additional ROMs)
Only "major" change to Snap Vue is the use of the HTC Home Plug In (I like it)
Tried with Wireless on and off
Tried with modem on and off
tried with different synch setting (ie no emails, only calendar, etc)
To make matters worse, I am back in PNG for another three months, so have no 3G connectivity to re-liberate the shift if I have to hard reset. The only other option, that i have not tried yet, is to utilise one of the ROMs currently on offer in the Shift Upgrade forum. I would prefer to know the problem before doing this as I would like to wait until I was in 3G connectivity again (just in case it all goes to clag)
Since I am a computer programming/regestry numpty I can not say if anything is different or what is wrong.
So, Community Please Help
Cheers

I still have Sync problems. I can sync only when I turn off modem. I was using thaihugo's ROM and now I added some more stuff and re-cooked and using it. I have no problem in Synching while modem is turned off. As soon as synch need is done, I turn on Modem.
Thanks

Hey all.
Hope you can help. This is driving me nuts.
Out of the blue, I cannot access Marketplace or twitter updates. Email adn Web are working fine over same connection.
See this video for the problem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxMmdWElZZc
(Sorry in advance that it came out side ways?!)
Its the same on wifi, makes no difference what connection I'm on.
I installed Total Commander and poked around but didn't delete anything etc. Just opened and closed folders.
Anyone got any idea for me?
I'm at a loss. I feel like its my fault but I've gone over and over the settings and did a soft reset. Not willing to do a hard reset just yet as I don't want to install everything all over again.
Thanks for any advice/help in advance!
wab.
This just gets weirder and more frustrating. What have I done? I downloaded "The Channer" with an excellent wifi connection and it says it cannot connect to the internet, asks me can it use cellular connection and still can't connect? Something seriously wrong here. Help!
I have a video of the above uploading to YouTube right now. Seriously, some advice appreciated. Ta.
Edit: Here is the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAygBKFydME
I think it may have something to do with an accidental deletion of files in ConnMgr in Total Commander?: See that mess here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6_9jcAAzbE
I didn't hit delete on any of the files there. Just pressed them and then they disappeared...
Can Anyone help? Could someone please look in ConnMgr to see what files are there? Thanks!
Dont soft reset. Power off and power on. Repeat if necessary.
Thanks Gavinfabl. I've power cycled about 5 times to no avail :-(
Goto settings tab on home screen, select menu, all settings, connections, wifi and turn on from here. Also, try rebooting your router. Can you connect on 3g signal?
Also try going into the connections applet, and edit current and untick connect via proxy if ticked.
Hi again, I have wifi on and it doesn't make any difference. I've rebooted router, can get mail and web fine, also wifi router at work is fine, again mail and web only. Twitter, Marketplace and The Channer all give an immediate unable to connect error. I fear its something more serious. I've no issues with my 3G or HSDPA signal. I've checked and unchecked proxer server and it makes no difference. All logical courses action (to me at least) are proving fruitless.
So, I uninstalled Marketplace and reinstalled it from the mp.windowsphone.com site, restarted my phone (automatically) and then did a soft reset.. now Marketplace won't even open although its listed in the start menu. I am seriously about to throw this phone out the window...
Was going to do a hard reset. Discovered MyPhone won't connect either to backup my stuff. What is going on???
I had same problem with Marketplace and Facebook. Everything else connected fine over wifi and 3G. I ended up doing a hard reset and it has been fine ever since. It was the only way I could get around the problem
i have the exact same problem ive spent hours on the phone with msoft to no avail you have to be a very special kind of stupid to be a customer service rep at microsoft man they are brain dead anyway if someone gets this figured out please post and a hard reset on mine did not work
What other apps have you installed getwet as a matter interest. Are you having the exact same issue as in my videos? Trying to find a commonality here. Its not good that a hard reset did not work for you! I was planning on doing that this weekend.
Happend to me to.
FB, market and widget stopped working but a hard reset fixed it!?
No clue what made it happen, I've installed most apps again and this time it works fine.
