New 2.2 and Hydra Kernel 0.8 hydra_ocuv_ov Compatible? - Droid Incredible General

I currently have a stock room on my Incredible.
I'm rooted, and have the hydra kernel hydra_ocuv_ov_v08_signed.zip flashed to my phone.
I love the kernel since it allows me to download my phone from 245 to 128 while idle, and still have ability to overclock to 1.15 when i need the umph.
So, Im seeing there is a new OTA stock room available on this site, that always has a few other additons.
Ive also read that you have to unroot the phone, and flash a new radio update before using the new 2.2 rom.
But my question is, after all is done, can I flash back to the hydra kernel so i have the ability to be undervolted and being able to downclock to 128 at idle? Or do I need to wait for hydra to update his kernel to have the new radio update?
Sorry, totally noobish here, but have been learning alot from this community.
The hydra kernel is so worth it. Im going on day 6 off the same charge, and i have used the internet off and on, listened to pandora, made calls, and some messaging (I also have the 2150 battery)
Thanks in advance for the helpful answers

No it is not compatible with anything froyo at the moment. Yes you can use it, but not all features of the phone will be useable (camera)
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App

Well thank you alot for your quick reply.
I'm enjoying the undervolts battery life too much to upgrade to froyo as of yet then (unless 2.2 does anything to help with battery life that im unaware of).
Otherwise, I'll hold off till maybe a new compatible hydra comes out, or until I hear too many things about froyo that i just can resist
Thanks again.

[ROM REQUEST] last 1.5 rom before completely dropped

I'm not sure if i am in the right thread to put this in but as the title stated I would like one last 1.5 Rom betorr it is dropped completely.
I tried 1.6 but the headphones doesn't work nor does the speaker when on a call. Right now i am using fresh 1.1 Rom and it is very fast and light weight but I was wondering if there was any tweaks or any services or apk thatcan be added or removed to increase performance stability or battery life.
Anyone wants to the resurrect this rom?

Try doing a search for Gumbo 1.5c... I think that has been mentioned as one of the faster 1.5 ROMS.
I don't follow the drama on here, so have no idea what you two are talking about... Just stating that I have seen many talk about how much they like
1.5c.
The fastest 1.5 ROM I had was Fresh 1.1 with gbhil's .31 Gumbo Kernal. That combo is probably faster than some of the 2.1 roms.

Wow, no one gets jokes either.. oh well, yeah I ran Fresh 1.1 w/ gumbo kernel for a while, it was great! I'd go with that if you want 1.5.
How would I put in his kernal in it I am running the fresh Rom and I find it the best one as everything works and it is very stable.
BTW regaw your toolbox is awesome. I would love to give you ideas to improve id you want any and I saw some poeople was posting hate on it. Don't worry about them your toolbox is perfect.
Can I flash a kkernal on a Rom and it will work fine?

Ok I just flashed it with the .31 kernal and I must say this maybe wishful thinking but dam this is fast I will try it out and will see how it performs.

I have been using this fresh 1.1 (1.5 Rom)and .31 kernel all day and I have to say that I am no longer intrested in the evo 4g until my upgrade. My phone idles at 85mb of RAM and I have all my apps installed.
I'm multitasking and I haven't gone less then 50mb of ram so far.
I will put it up to the real test later on this week when I am listening to music, using Google navigation, texting, and on the web at the same time to see how it stands up to the test.
My girlfriend gave me her motorala droid so I will compare the speeds to it to see how it stands up.
I think if we can shave off some things out of it. And try to get it to idle over 100mb it will be very nice.

You called? LOL.
Well, look at pancake 0.1, which is 1.5, or gtalk/email me and I'll make a custom rom ([email protected](I like email because I can make sure that it's answered))
So I install a memory manager and my phone justcrapped out. I went from 80mb free to 25mb free and no matter what settings I change it to it didn't make a diffence. My keyboard started to lag and it was horible.
I uninstalled it and flash over .31 kernal and I was back yo normal lol

To those that don't change roms.

How does stock gingerbread run and if you don't root and just run a stock rom what's your reasons for doing so?
I prefer not to mess with phones but my evo gets pretty slow at times so I change roms to find one that runs the best on my phone.

I've kept mine stock simply because I've never had any issues with it that would prompt me to root and install a different ROM. Mine's never slowed down on me, and has not had any other problems.
Use cm7+ godmode kernel+supercharge script and you'll wanna have my kids
Gimme a couple a days to come up with a new sig that is cool.

What exactly have you gained using, "cm7+ godmode kernel+supercharge script" that a stock user would want?
I've flashed CM7 on my Evo god-knows how many times and tried a multitude of different kernels and have never seen performance that is significantly better than a stock Evo. CM7 and custom kernels let me allowed me to overclock but so what? I gained nothing by o'clocking. I've been able to get about 23 hours of bettery life on stock and kernel#15, wifi tether and CM7 came close to that. I'm not saying that stock's better than CM7--maybe I missed something, like the supercharge script!? whatever that is...
So share, what significant improvement do your mods give over stock?

If you are looking for battery life improvements I use CM7 with SZ 2.2 kernel and haven't seen anything beat it yet. Even with stock and lack of Widgets and such. Thus far it seems this has run alot more effectively than anything else I have tried.
The number of system tweaks and customization built in to CM that usually would require a separate app to do is awesome. Instead of having all these apps and workarounds to do what I want, it is already built in to CM.
The amount of support that the CM team gives their mod alone is good enough for me to have switched from stock as well.
Obviously ROMs aren't for everybody but that is just a small tie bit of why I like them.

Search for what I said to use and use set CPU to use conservative governor. I experience a lot of lag in sense but NONE in cm7 using the supercharger script. You can't just flash it one day and expect it to be perfect. Let it sit for a week, condition etc and then you'll see what I mean
Gimme a couple a days to come up with a new sig that is cool.
I can't stick with one ROM,Kernel, or various tweaks because I haven't tried all of them and flashing is so easy. Right now I have kushdeck's ROM 1.0(2.3.3) and tiamat kernel 3.3.8 sbc with viperboy's viperMOD v3 2.3 -75mv undervolt. My battery life has sucked since rooting and flashing ROMs and nothing has really improved it.
I try other roms all the time but always come back

I followed these instructions and now enjoy great battery life.
http://www.goodandevo.net/2011/01/htc-kernel-15-v7-enables-trickle-charging-of-evo-4g-battery.html
Prior to this, I was getting 12 hours with average use. I turned off everything and just didn't seem to matter. After swapping to the kernel recommended in the above post, my battery was signifincantly better. No undervolting, background on, GPS on, WiFi.. I don't use Bluetooth for anything so I can't vouch for that.
I use stock right now because I took the OTA update, but I plan on flashing CM7 once root is gained on it. With all of my apps installed and several widgets that I prefer to use active, I run about 260 memory unused on average, and I typically only charge overnight. I work overnights and use Pandora constantly, run WiFi at home and at work, and leave GPS on. No 4G in my area, sadly, so no ideas on that.

Same here, haven't had any need plus I have to have my phone working with emails being synched. All I really need is WiFi tether and to backup my apps and stuff. When my evo gets slow I just hit task killer and back to normal.

Best Kernel's for G2?

Currently using CM7 nightly build 186 with stock kernel. Had umaros kernel but it gave me issues so I reinstalled 186 and restored apps with data using TB pro. Looking for an efficient kernel which gives good battery life and excellent performance/ doesn't make my phone overheat :/
So you're saying that you're having bad performance, battery, and heat problems with the stock CM7 kernel? That doesn't sound right. I think you may be having some other issues. What are you overclocking to? are you using the built in CMSettings CPU settings or a different app (SetCPU)? What governor are you using?
I would definitely recommend the stock CM7 kernel. Its a fantastic well rounded kernel that is guaranteed to work perfect with the software.
I agree - you should really use the CM7 kernel it works quiet brilliant.
IMHO all other kernels are not especially made for CM7...
I'm running Pershoots kernel with CM7 and I have it overclocked to 1.5 Ghz. My phone runs great and I'd say the battery lasts pretty much the same amount as it did when I was on stock. Of course when your gaming and stuff and actually using all those gigahertz then your battery life goes down the crapper.
Interestingly enough ... I haven't noticed the phone getting as hot as it used to when I did play games on it ... weird. You'd think overclocking it would cause it to warm it considerably.
yea I'm curious too. I'm running the stock OTA 2.3.4 pre rooted rom and everything works great, but I was wondering if I can improve wifi range or anything else?

No custom kernels for that. And if you were on a different ROM, custom kernels will help with battery or performance (they claim), but not really things like wifi signal.
Yea just had a scary moment when I flashed my radio lol. I know there is no working substitute kernal for the stock ota ...yet! But I was wondering what about g-lite, ayone try it? How close is it to the stock ota?

CM7 and G-lite are pretty close. Considering that the G2 OTA is close to stock AOSP, and these ROMs are made from AOSP they're going to be pretty close...
Why not flash them and try them? You can always go back to a nandroid backup of your stock rooted ROM.
I said that the stock kernel is good, the UmarosKernel drained my battery.

Fastest 2.x ROM for 32b?

Hey guys I know this question quite possibly gets asked all of the time. I'm looking for the fastest and most stable rom for my 32b.
Here is what I need to know.
Best rom, radio and spl combo.
I wouldnt mind it being cyanogen based as im a huge fan of the power control widget in the notifications bar and some of the options.
Doesnt matter to me what version is it, as long as its 2.1 or higher. Reason? App compatibility.
So please. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. thanks again and sorry for the "n00b" question.
I just put Frosense by Rushness on and it is the fastest I have ever used. I have ezTerry's non-engineered spl and the alternate radio which gives +14 MB RAM
Sent from my Frosense G1 using xda Premium
I am using Frosense by Rushness & i think it's fastest rom that i ever see!
I actually just installed cyanogenmod 5.0.8 with the 2708+ mod for it and its extremely fast. I'll have to make an nandroid backup and see what frosense is all about.
Anyone know rom witch i can run Angry Birds without "laggs"?
Try an older version. I personally do not play the game or care how it runs. My main concern is how to make my phone run well on a day to day basis.
Cyanogenmod with the 2708 radio, and swapper2 using a 64mb swap partition has proven to be the fastest yet for me. All of my apps work and although i had to downgrade zeam to make it work with Eclair, i'm still happy with it.
everything is snappy. My widgets work just fine and the overall experience and usability of my phone is what i would expect it to be.
I would love a froyo rom and i may try frosense in the future. for now im content with what i have.
Froyo for Trout is very fast.
If your looking for a super fast GB rom use mine. It has 60Mb of free space, aways 20MB or ram free. Look for Nomy's CM7.1 2.3.7 in the Dev fourm. There's no swap,or MTD. It's under 40MB Zipped. Hopefully will be under 40Mb unzipped

I would love to use GB. How does it rate in terms of speed and battery compared to eclair? I'm looking for the best overall experience.

So far the 5.0.8 2708 mod with the last bifftest kernel has been the best overall for me. Almosted tempted to try it on 6.1 to see if I have the same luck.

Try Cyanogen 5.0.8 2708+
Aleks. Thats what im currently using with the updated biffmod kernel. Works great!
Wondering if the 6.1 2708+ would have the same success plus the little extra i like like notification bar power control and updated zeam by using froyo.
If i could get that and keep the same nice batterylife and speed of 5.0.8 2708+ i would be one happy camper
Still wouldnt mind a froyo+ rom. looks like when it comes to speed and stability its either going to be biffmod or froyobylaszlo. any thoughts?
xtreme-froyo-1.9.5-signed.zip
Google that rom or find Xtreme froyo, this ROM is best 2.2 I've found for G1...The battery drain is okay, in Biff it was faster, and in Ginger the battery was awful. I tried 2.1 ROMs but they seemed sluggish.
Seems everyone likes froyo by laszlo as the best feature/speed/battery balanced rom. does this do better?
never seen it here so i figured i may as well ask.
froyobylaszlo 5.2, spl latest, swap 128 +512 mb ext4 - my option
it seem to be fast!
What kernel? What compcache settings? Etc.
Sent from my HTC Magic using XDA App
Just curious. Since i get great results (performance is satisfactory and battery life is great) with the biffmod kernel over the ezgb kernel in cm5, couldn't the same be said for almost any other rom so long as i use that kernel? The only downside ive had with said kernel is i cannot take 3mp pictures. The camera is sort've crap anyway so i can live with 2mp.
The reason i ask is because i would like to bump it up to froyo but would like comparable performance with about the same battery. Our am i just living a pipe dream?
What I need out of my G1 is battery life. I pretty much use it only for email (wifi and mobile). I've tried pretty much every rom out there for G1, even went all the way back to Donut assuming its battery needs would be minimal. I saw ezTerry's gingerbread and thought, hmm, I'll install it just to see what its like. I assumed it would be very hungry and I'd go back to something lighter. I was very pleasantly surprised.
I've had it running for about a week and a half now. I have wifi on all the time, and the stock email client is setup with a fairly busy exchange server account (push). The gmail client is also setup with my main gmail account.
I am averaging 30 hours like this between charges.
I should say that I do not do alot of voice, perhaps 20-30 minutes per day (on a busy day), so this is strictly an internet device for me, no games, not alot of surfing.

I find my self keep coming back to this rom. I am not sure how many xda members had the honor of this great 2.2 rom. I have tryed many different roms. Team Toxic Presents "Toxic Crazy8" Froyo Gone Crazy on Ginger"
It has some features that will give you what you want like..
Tweak to make phone stop attempting signal location once strongest signal is found.
Build prop edit to make phone sleep in standby (decreasing battery drain)
More edits and tweaks to optimize speed and stability.
V6 Supercharge Option
You get scriptmanager app to apply whichever script from the v6 supercharge that you want.. the more aggressive, the less apps it keeps in memory, the less apps, the more snappy-- any running app gets as much ram as it might need so doesn't slow down. The tradeoff.. if you want to go to a previously running app, it won't continue where it left off like you might with stock memory profiles. NOTE: it doesn't work like an auto task killer, it decides how the OS allocated the ram.
Just flash the same kernel you are already using over that rom. The best part of it is, that rom does have exceptional battery life, so if you are going to overclock.. then that rom would be a good marriage for the combo of snappy performance and longevity.
Same as Naturallight here, CM just doesn't work on my phone.
I've tried every install method available and it just sits there twitching like it's having some sort of fit
None of the habitatc buttons work, they won't even light up, gps doesn't lock at all (it can't even see 1 satellite) 911 doesn't work at all.
I don't know what all the hubub is about but from where I'm sitting, CM is worse than going back to 1.1 stock
