yes i have, but mostly the home button... but once all of them are lit, the sensitivity goes up for some reason

No they do not. I wish they would stay on as long as the screen stays on. On the Samsung Fascinate for Verizon, they button DO stay on, so I believe this will or could come in a future update.
As for the sensitivity, I think they work great. I haven't used an N1, but on the N1 all the reviewers complained about the buttons, and with this phone, no reviewer has complained about the buttons so far, so I bet they are better. As for me, I have no complaints with them either.

Huh, I was gonna say mine are too sensitive, as I can hover over them and they go off without touching them. Then again, in the winter time static electricty always finds a way to knock my on my butt all the time. I should prolly stay indoors during lightning storms.
hopefully there is an update or tweak to keep these buttons powered on as long as the screen is on!

Looks good.
one thing I noticed is that when the keyboard pops up, its not swype. I thought it was supposed to come with swype? maybe it does but you have to enable it? but if they advertise it as coming with swype, you'd think that would be the default keyboard. not that it matters to me since I'll install it either way.
The pictures are awesome, this phone is gonna rock. Come on kick ass multitouch controller.

yeah the keyboard lights up. it has a light sensor for the keyboard lights. plus a proximity sensor... darkens the phones screen when you put the phone to your face for a call to save battery. the lcd backlight is also sensor based so it will auto adjust for you too. Those are all features on newer htc models. they come in handy on my mytouch slide. of course, you can turn them off too exept the keyboard light. that one is automatic no matter what. you can hold your hand over the sensor though, lol, but that is never needed. the sensors are EXTREMELY accurate.
Wish it was getting the noise-canceling mic like the N1. Came in handy while driving.
I wont miss the noise-cancelling mic on the N1.
Whenever people have a hard time hearing me while on a call, I usually have to cover the extra mic with my finger. That improves the sound quality on the other end every time. It never worked right for me...

spare parts was only in custom ROMs if I'm not mistaken. the spare parts app provided the extra setting of allowing you to keep your home screen in portrait while auto-rotating otherwise. auto-rotate is a standard feature in android

I can't confirm this works. I've done it with my phone and I can't say there is a difference but mine don't flips to landscape that easy but I did notice since the 2.2 OTA update it does change much easier than before. Anyway try to recalibrate the compass and see if that doesn't help your issue. Settings/location & Security

Have you tried looking into the way you are holding it? Sometimes the base of your thumb, or palm, might make contact with the area around the capacitive buttons which renders your thumb input unresponsive.

It's a double-edged sword with the Atrix. It has a really responsive screen but that also translates into really sensitive. I actually changed the case I was using to accommodate this problem because I have big hands. I was using the Incipio Feather case but kept hitting the bottom of the screen with my hand so I switched to an Otterbox which keeps the base of my thumbs from touching.

On a more serious note I actually think this might be the case, although I doubt you could use your thumbs any differently when typing or whatever than any of us could.
When I have my nexus one on a table, I can't hit any capacitive buttons to save my life with my index finger. Because the glass is somewhat thick and the button press registers to the top (near the black line where the screen starts) I have to hold the phone to get it to work.

The issue you're having with the N1 has been ongoing for about a year now. I had the same problem with both N1s that I had and was supposed to be remedied through a "software fix". I think it was finally blamed on hardware/manufacturing, but don't hold my word to it.
Plus, I was being serious. You don't have to hold it upside down or anything. I just used a little more "arc" with my thumbs but I decided to go with a different case to make it easier.
... they would have made way, way more profit

Most of the custom Roms here allow for the volume buttons to wake up the phone. It's saving my finger stretching so much.

I like the button placement on the top left. Last year on the One X is was on the right side... That was a bit hard to reach.
They included the IR Blaster in the Power Button. That could be a reason why its on the top.

It could be, but you'd have a landscape remote. Power button placement should take precedence over a gimmicky feature most people won't use. I don't speak for everyone, but even as a geeky person, I'd rather reach for the remote than pull my phone out of my pocket, unlock it, and launch a remote control app to do the same thing.

Seriously? I've been wishing they'd do this for years. It's a universal (programmable) remote too so I can do my TV, Stereo (which I actually use a lot) and Roku box. It's a great feature.
Plus, if I'm sitting down, especially on a couch, I usually have already pulled my phone out of my pocket.

I wonder if the issue is really just hypothetical, as in the people who object don't have their One yet. I guess I'm lucky cause I had a Nokia and an iPhone before this so I've had the button on the top for several years. I'm concerned too about how tall the phone is but I have a case already and it isn't a problem to shift the phone slightly to get my finger up there (I have small hands).
That, the battery and the MicroSD card are non issues for me, but then I might be in the minority too. I've never been more excited to own or impressed with the design of a phone. In fact it's a little embarrassing how hard it is to wait two weeks.

It was still on the top in the one x, just the right side of the top compared to the left now. (it's always been top right iirc for htc and iphones) minus maybe small exception. I think right top is better for right handers... But as htc knows... Most people are left handed... /sarcasm this must be why they chose the left side now.

Actually, top left is better for right-handers because it allows you to fully stretch your finger, rather than cramping it in an awkward position if it's on the top right. But personally, if there was no IR Blaster, I would prefer it on the right side of the phone because it's so much easier and more natural to hit it with your thumb, with the way you hold a phone.

Really? Okay great... Pretty long time ago that I have played with HTC devices. But anyway, this is the problem. I have root, can modify files in the system directory. But all those changes are undone when rebooting the devices, i.e. the changes are not permanent. Because the keymap files are loaded when booting the device there's really no way to change anything.
Anyone? Non permanent write access ?
