[Q] Droid X orientation - Droid X General

so... ya... my phone's orientation's not working right now.
so when i use navi, it's still in port. mode rather than land. mode
i have rooted dx 2.2 and it's just not working since this monday.
somebody help me out please!

That's funny you mention that. I noticed that my X is VERY sensitive and will flip to landscape if I slightly move.

Check to see that your settings are right.
settings>display>auto-rotate screen. Check this and you'll rotate, unless your phone is broken.

it's funny YOU mention that because I was debating asking xda if anyone knew a way to fix it from being so sensitive or possibly set it to only rotate on specific apps.

I can't confirm this works. I've done it with my phone and I can't say there is a difference but mine don't flips to landscape that easy but I did notice since the 2.2 OTA update it does change much easier than before. Anyway try to recalibrate the compass and see if that doesn't help your issue. Settings/location & Security

EVO G sensor not very smooth like hero

My g sensor is kind of jumpy if you open up the g sensor calibration setting and look at the bubble levels while moving the phone around they jump from center to either direction. Not very fluid. Can someone else verify this.

Mine started getting jumpy too. I think if you recalibrate (move in figure 8 motion) it might improve.
My verticle sensor is jumpy as well. It only does it when I tilt the phone forward where I have trouble viewing the whole screen. I am a service tech at sprint and there are no known issues in our system at this time. Our demo does is as well, and I just visted BB and thiers has the same issue. There might be faulty sensors....Man I hope not but if there is your looking at massive returns. Were not even allowed to disassemble the EVO at all, no matter what the probem.

Screen orientation

Just wondering if this is my device or if its every device. But my screen will only change get one way and that's if I furniture down on its left side. It does not change if I turn of to the right side or turn it upside Down. Just wondering if my device is glitched because every phone I have seen in the past the does it this way will change no matter what way you then it.

[CLOSED/G2] Engadget: G2 Preview

Looks good.
one thing I noticed is that when the keyboard pops up, its not swype. I thought it was supposed to come with swype? maybe it does but you have to enable it? but if they advertise it as coming with swype, you'd think that would be the default keyboard. not that it matters to me since I'll install it either way.
The pictures are awesome, this phone is gonna rock. Come on kick ass multitouch controller.
Damn finally there's a preview out there. I've been checking cnet and the link you provided every damn day. This is about to own it up.
Thanks for providing the link.

was flipping through screen shots and their a htc logo at boot. looks like no google and g2 logo. backlit keys would be awesome as well as trackpad notifications.
That was a prototype model, you can see the engraved serial number on the front of the device.
Tight photos but still no indication that it will go into landscape mode w/o sliding up the screen to reveal the keyboard?
If anyone knows. Holla at me.

yeah the keyboard lights up. it has a light sensor for the keyboard lights. plus a proximity sensor... darkens the phones screen when you put the phone to your face for a call to save battery. the lcd backlight is also sensor based so it will auto adjust for you too. Those are all features on newer htc models. they come in handy on my mytouch slide. of course, you can turn them off too exept the keyboard light. that one is automatic no matter what. you can hold your hand over the sensor though, lol, but that is never needed. the sensors are EXTREMELY accurate.
Wish it was getting the noise-canceling mic like the N1. Came in handy while driving.
I wont miss the noise-cancelling mic on the N1.
Whenever people have a hard time hearing me while on a call, I usually have to cover the extra mic with my finger. That improves the sound quality on the other end every time. It never worked right for me...

spare parts was only in custom ROMs if I'm not mistaken. the spare parts app provided the extra setting of allowing you to keep your home screen in portrait while auto-rotating otherwise. auto-rotate is a standard feature in android

[Q] Misbehaving N1

I got my AMOLED N1 back in Feb 2010.
Unlocked bootloader, rooted 2.2.1.
The problem which existed from day one but showing much more often these days, is that after running an app (e.g. Market) the touch screen misbehave. It either does not register the touch, or maps the touch about an inch lower from where it should be. The phone has plenty of free memory (internal).
The problem is more prominent since the 2.2.1 update (but I am not sure it's related).
Does anybody else experiencing this?
TIA
Most people!
There is no solution other than the temporary fix of turning the screen off and then on again.

Yes.
I'm getting really frustrated with the N1 due to the ****ty touch screen.
I had a play with my brother's Nexus S.... SO much nicer and smoother. The touchscreen on the N1 is abysmal and shocking!
I've also noticed "freezes" in the sense that the display won't come up - only the touch screen buttons light up and then slowly fade off.... only way to recover is to pull out the battery. Really annoying.

Thanks DirkGently1, itay1,
Is there anything that can be done to fix this? e.g. replace a part (whether under warranty or not)?
It is actually becoming hard to even use the N1 as a phone or for text..

But if your phone is unusable just get it replaced under warranty.

My first experience using Android was turning on my Nexus One and encountering this issue the very first time i had to use the screen! The device i have has had this problem in varying degrees since i got it. Very bad to start with, not so frequent after i sent it back for repair.
Take a look at the poll from my own thread about the issue...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=878477
Pretty commonplace problem, which along with the power buttons failing detracts from an otherwise great phone.
Blame HTC, I had this issue on my first N1 earlier last year. I would turn the screen off then turn it back on.

I find it behaves better when the screen is clean. Perhaps finger grease can confuse it... it might be *that* sensitive.
I flashed the frg83d update this morning and I've gone all day without the crazy screen thing and I'm loving it lol!
*knock on wood *
Hope it stays that way!
@DirkGently1:
I've added my vote
@itay1:
I was just about to write the same thing. It is much better after I've cleaned it (which I didn't for a while)
I am not using any screen cover. I never did. But maybe there is a cover that helps. Those of you who never suffered from this issue, do you use a screen cover/protector? which one?
Also, maybe the issue is intensified by how dry (or not) our fingers are compared to others..
@dusty-:
Do you mean frg83g? frg83d did not help my case. sorry..
Yes I meant frg83g lol

The "grab around" problem

Hello everybody!
I like my Nexus One very much, but there's a big problem for me: the "grab around" annoyance - i.e., when you touch the very edge of the screen with your thumb, the touchscreen turns irresponsible or crazy.
Please, does anyone know some fix for this problem? Some ROM (my N1 is rooted) or app, anything? Please note that I'm not referring to the very known calibration problem, but to the very sensitive edge.
I'm just asking here because I've already searched on XDA and Google, and found no fix for this.
Thanks
And you will not find the fix for this. You sould get used with or try to be more gently with touching the edge...

I have this also....thought it was just me. The simple fix is to turn screen off and back on and it seems to act sensibly again.
Not ideal though.
There is no fix for this. I experience it too, just barely touch the edge and it goes nuts. I use a rubber case now anyway which solves the issue for me.
Thanks for the answers
Wiggz - the problem you must be referring is the calibration, that fixes going to sleep mode. The problem I talk about is the sensitive edge of the touchscreen, what Google doesn't even consider a bug - only in their heads...
I fixed this by using a silicone case - the phone gets veeery ugly, but that's a fix...
What could resolve this excluding a silicone case?
thanks
Off topic but the thread title makes it sound like you're getting hassled by gay guys. Just saying!
That's reach-around lmao
I've learned to hold the phone differently... haven't had this "problem" since the first month the phone came out.
Oh, and I've never used a case, probably never will either - this phone is way to slick to ruin with a case IMO.

I don't really consider it a bug either. If you're touching the touch screen, what do you think the phone should do differently? Especially considering the limitations of the N1's touch screen. With proper multi-touch I suppose the phone could decide to ignore stationary touches at the edges, but with the N1 that's not possible.
It is annoying. The phone needs more of an edge.
And if we could just turn multitouch off? I think this would not affect me so much.
Is there some way to do that?

Yep, even if possible the second touch i.e. where you actually want to press wouldn't register.
Multi-touch not being supported by the launcher is actually the cause of this, not the solution.

Ditto. And in addition - even having proper multi-touch unlike Nexus One, I believe it would still require quite complicated algorithms to know the difference between the accidental palm touch and the "true" finger touch - and so comes the question: is that thread about being unhappy with the slim size of the N1? Come on, really. If you want some extra edge - buy a case around it.
Well, thanks for all the answers. The only solution, then, is using a case.
At least, now I won't be searching again and again about this problem. I'll search only for a better case.

So if I get a third party launcher with multitouch I will be able to get around this problem? Basically launcher apps with the pinch to preview homescreen support multitouch, right?

No. First of all, because the N1 digitizer is crap so no software solution is technically possible for this phone. If you had a phone with proper multitouch then you could write some ugly, wonky hack that would sometimes be able to guess when you were accidentally touching the screen but it would probably cause more trouble then it would be worth. Basically the only solutions to this are to either get a case as has been suggested or use the iPhone 4 solution, i.e. don't hold it like that.
