I am new to the HTC/Android platform. I just brought a Virgin Canada branded Legend which has the 2.02.666.03 firmware. I am planning on using the goldcard method to put a stock rom on it and debrand it.
However, I am not sure which is the right rom. I came from a Nokia where flashing firmware from the wrong region can brick a phone (because of the wrong radio bands). Not sure if the same goes for HTC phones. Are the roms labeled WWE the same thing as North American roms?
I am guessing I should be using RUU_Legend_HTC_WWE_2.03.405.3_Radio_47.39.35.09_7.08.35.21_release_130330_signed.exe?
Thanks for helping out a newbie
Another newbie q, while we're at it...what about the internet settings when you flash..will those automatically be set again?

Hi, I have aquired a T-mobile from the U.S.
Before attempting to re-flash it to get it to work in Australia I just want some advice that I am about to do the right thing...
Here are its specs:-
Branded T-Mobile
ROM v 3.08.10ENG
Radio v 6.02
Model PW10B1
After some reading of these forums I have concluded it must be a 900/1900 GSM device, and it appears to be SIM locked.
(Here in Aus. we have a 900/1800 GSM system).
I intend to use a cooked rom from jeffs site to upgrade the rom.
Does the rom I use have to be one of the T-Mobile US roms ?
I realise that i wont have 1800 coverage. But will 900 still work?
Anyway, because of the sim lock I intend to proceed with a rom update.
I intend to:
Backup rom using SD card method
Download a V4.xxx T-mobile US cooked rom
Update rom using USB method
Any comments/advice appreciated (any local experience here?)
Regards from DownUnder.
well first off... i suggest you upgrade to Special rom 1.2 first.
that one will unlock your pda, so you can use it anywhere.
and about band... i'm sure i saw 1800 in the bootloader!
but not sure if you select it as default if it will carry over to the os
maybe worth a try.
in any case, if you back up your os onto SD, you have nothing to fear.
i say best thing to do, is copy that O2 os & radio (if you're sure u'll never leave australia, i dont think radios can be manipulated that often)
but dont take my word for it. wait for a confirmed user. if your not advanturous
Good Luck!
Yep, I backed up and upgraded to SE v1.2 rom using the SD card/OSImagetool method.
SIM unlocked ok
Phone works if 900mhz band is selected.
Its now thinks it's a model PW10A1.
Radio is still the 6.02 version. (B ver. )
Not sure what the consequences of this are.
Im not sure if i would benefit from a radio upgrade or not.
If I understand this correctly, I can ONLY upgrade the radio to the T-Mobile US versions, because the radio hardware is B version.
I think I will leave it like this for a while, see how it go's.
Anybody have any experience with using a B (US)version radio in a A Ver.(euro/asian) area.??

Thanks for the advice ntabikha and THANK YOU to the XDA Developers team.
I've an unlocked European Hero, now in Canada. Is it at all possible to install the radio from the Telus Hero on this phone to alter the baseband 3G frequency, or is it hardware controlled? Anyone have success doing this?
You can not flash any radio roms as it is included in the current rom in your Hero. To flash replacement radio you need to take journey to Rootway.

I'm not sure what any of that means?
To answer the OP, I *doubt* that it would work, but doubting and knowing are two completely different things. It is conceivable that the physical radio hardware is the same from the Telus Hero to the EU one, and if it is flashing the Telus radio would probably work.
However, you run the serious risk of bricking your phone if the radio hardware is not identical.
Regards,
Dave
it won't work. idk whether it would brick the hero, but you can not alter the frequency related settings as they are hardware dependant. if you want 3g get the right device for your provider, no other way.
Hi Dave, Since he has unlocked EU hero, I doubt radio rom can be flashed at all but after flashing a new recovery he may be able to flash one fron the radio rom sticky as they are generic radios? Please correct me. Thanks.
People have flashed EU Hero radio rom onto Telus Hero (mainly because they want to root and install custom roms, but that requires downgrading the Hero first, and the downgrading process require the use of EU roms). Initial reports indicated some dialing problem on the Telus Hero with EU Hero radio rom. While flashing a newer radio rom fixed that, some people are still reporting some SMS problem.
One important thing to note though, using the EU Hero radio rom on Telus Hero does not get away Telus Hero's 850/1900 3G compatibility. This indicates that EU Hero 850/1900 3G incompatibility is not due to radio rom restriction.
As a matter of fact, the two are two different hardwares. The EU Hero (and all Asian) has product # HERO100 while the Telus one is HERO130.
Based on my experience with HTC devices, I'm pretty sure it's the same hardware. We need to focus on the baseband. Need someone with such skills like Geohot. Anybody?
The HTC website says that Rom update is not suitable for my phone.....Why Not? I am currently on ROM 1.43.110.2 UK based phone on the T-Mobile Network. I thought that the latest ROM was 1.48 or am I wrong?
proably because it is branded by t-mobile, it is only suitable for unbranded phones, you will need to use the goldcard method if you wish to update your rom

Could you explain the Goldcard method to me and why wouldn't branded phones want latest ROM updates?
branded phones need updates from the carrier.
unbranded (as they have no carrier afflilation) gets theirs direct from the manufacturer (HTC)
This link should help give you more of an idea what you will need to do. Haven't done it myself. Still waiting for the new ROM to be made official on the UK HTC site(well waiting and learning only had it 4 days). They haven't given it to us yet.

Hey,
a friend of mine wants to buy a HD2 and the branded ones in Germany are nearly 100€ cheaper than the unbranded ones. Vodafon HD2s are the cheapest, then O2....
So my question is, these phones are not locked to the provider but I think they have a branded rom and stuff like this, so is it possible to flash them with custom roms, radios etc.? So that they don't have anything left on them which makes them a branded phone? Or is it a little bit more complicated?
Thanks a lot!!
Yes you can flash them. It just takes alittle common sense and abit of reading.
Start here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=713977
yeah I already flashed my HD2 I just wanted to know if its different if the HD2 is branded. So if its only branded its no problem to flash it, its the same like an unbranded, it has just a different software.
branded (rom lock) just means t.at the only rom that will load without hspl is the original branded rom. as soon as hspl is applied it can take any rom, until hspl is removed.
hey i recently purchased a tmobile branded htc leo the 1024leo for tmobile usa. I wanted to flash an official unbranded rom. Anyone know any that will work i downloaded RUU_Leo_HTC_WWE_1.48.405.2_Radio_Signed_15.28.50.07U_2.05.51.05_2_Ship.exe
thinking it would work but after reading that not all roms work i realized this might not be compatible. So if anyone knows any unbranded roms that work tell me plzz. also any way can sim unlock the phone by flashing or using some software cuz im on att and i really wanna use this phone
there is no "official unbranded rom" for the tmo us HD2. You can download many different customized rom that is available such as the HD2.0 UnOff Series if you want unbranded. for unlocking please use search there is already a thread about that.
i don't know about that rom, but i always follow this rule when i download any roms:
PLEASE READ ALL THE INFORMATION IN THIS GUIDE BEFORE INSTALLING HARDSPL OR FLASHING A ROM/RADIO. IF YOU FLASH AN INCOMPATABLE ROM OR RADIO ON THE 1024LEO THEN THERE IS A POSSIBILITY OF BRICKING YOUR DEVICE SO PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL!!
Not all ROMs are compatible with 1024LEO, including old official ROMS.
Official 1.42 and 1.66 WON'T WORK on LEO1024, because there is no 1024 NAND memory support.
All custom ROMs which ARE NOT BASED ON 2.08+ T-Mobile ROMs WON'T WORK ON 1024LEO.

and this is the rule for radio

it was just an suggestion about the rom, and shawnamin should have read the "[TUT] Flashing your First GSM USA 1024LEO ONLY!! (For Noobs)" and that would have given the answers for flashing roms.

Heh, wise move.
Your tmous phone cannot take ANY official roms at all, except for the tmous official roms, or tmous compatible cooked roms. All other official roms contain a radio that will kill your phone permanently.
Moved as not ROM Development.
