SOLVED - phone problem: Cannot receive incoming calls but get missed call icon. - EVO 4G General

Edit: I googled it and found that I had "send to voicemail" turned on in her contact.
This is WEIRD, and it only happens with ONE friend. Whenever she calls, it rings once, and goes to my voicemail. On my phone, the call won't come up (ring or show an incoming call), but will show the missed call after she hangs up!
This is crazy, and we've even sat side by side and tested it out, and she can't get through to me.
Did I do something like accidentally block her, or what? She's the ONLY person this happens with.

LMFAO that's what my "real life" friends said too. I'm cracking the hell up.

can i please get this

i really need a text notification while i am on the phone, i don't care what the phone does while i am on it a beep or vibrate or extremely loud siren or mr. T saying "you gotta text FOOL!" i don't care. i love the phone and i love android and my G1 but i hate that when i am on the phone i have no way of knowing that i got a text from someone.
sorry if this seems rude but it seems to me that it would be incredibly easy to implement and yet we don't have it yet
i was just pondering about this. i was on the phone and got off only to find out that i had several missed txts. i was like, jeez android doesn't have in-call notifications?! lol
litterally just happened to me, and with root we should be able to build it into the ROM or if there is an app that will do it then please let me know what it is, last night i was waiting on a text from a friend coming over and then i got a call, the call lasted 15 minutes while the guy texted me like crazy telling me to let him in and had no idea i was on the phone(fortunately he understood what happened since he has an android phone as well)
Hmmm all my other phones did this... which were android, the click and the G1, I believe my phone does this as well, I have my texts set to vibrate and it does a little vibrate for me.
My rooted G1 has in-call notifications. The Slide does not. And I agree, it is irritating.
ya mines viberates its pretty obvious when theres a txt it annoys me tho gonna shut it off
yours vibrates when you are on the phone and you get a text? please let me know what settings you have enabled and what ROM you are on if any
you gotta use chompsms i think and it has an option for either vibrate or ringtone during phone call.
Handcent does this as well. Sound and Vibrate Notifications.

Google Voice phone ring delay

I'm using GV as voicemail, and the phone only starts ringing after 5-10s (the caller already hears rings and sometimes even hangs up). Is there a fix for this?
You know there's a delay even when you call normally right?

Same, this is annoying, and my ringtones are now significantly shorter because of it.....
I have my Google voice ring my work Cell as well as my sprint phone, And for some reason my work phone rings a full ring before my Sprint phone rings. Wish there wasn't a lag or way to extend the rings.
Also does anyone know how to shut off that stupid press 1 to accept call.. i hate it, today I pressed 1 And then was told the caller hung up( cause phone rang to many times) And to press 2 to call back..

There is no call screening option. I'm having this problem too and have no way to turn this option off.

Are you sure? I'm looking at it right now, but to be honest I haven't integrated it with Sprint.
Google.com/voice>sign in>click on your phone number in the top right>click on the calls tab>the very first box is call screening>turn off.
If you turn this off, it will not announce the caller to you and make you press one. However, you won't know if this is someone calling your google voice #, or possibly your work cell # (as is my case).

GV and your desk phone are both land lines so the connection is instant. There is always a delay to cell lines regardless if you use GV. There is no way to get rid of the delay; this is completely normal.
To get rid of the press 1 to accept, go into GV -> Settings -> Calls and turn Call Screening to Off.
The funny thing is that I have a Droid X (Verizon) linked to my GV and it always rings before the Evo. I'm now thinking of switching to Verizon so I don't have such a long delay / lose calls.

The stock settings tell the phones radio to check with the tower every so many seconds. I don't remember what the default is so for sake of the explanation lets say 8 seconds. Your phone just checked the tower and nothing was coming in. Then someone begins calling you. Depending where in the countdown you are at your phone wont check with the tower for another 8 seconds or less. The person calling you will hear the phone ringing even though you have yet to receive an incoming call.
Changing the settings shortens the time between checking with the tower and thus reducing the time your phone will start ringing.

You can not do this with any AOSP or 2.3 sense roms.
Nandroid, then flash to a 2.1 / 2.2 rom, make the changes then nandroid back.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Popping sounds on calls and low microphone issues

On calls I get popping sounds. a few times the pops have been so loud I almost dropped.
The microphone is also really low. people can't hear me I use to be able (Gnexus) to set the phone down and talk with it on the computer table next to me but now they can't hear me.

Standard 'is this a hardware problem?' test:
1. If you are on a custom ROM, flash completely back to stock and retest.
2. If you are already on stock, backup all your data and factory reset. Even better, completely wipe the phone and re-install stock and retest.
3. If the issue still occurs, the issue is most likely with the hardware. If the issue no longer occurs, then it was a software problem.
4. If I understand this reply correctly, you have already received a replacement device and the issue still occurs. In this case, you happen to be very unlucky.
As for the Nexus 4 in general, I can only speak anecdotally. I don't have the issue on the seven Nexus 4 devices I've tested: two of my own, three from coworkers/friends who also own the device, and two test devices.

Since the issue only happens during Skype calls and not while using the standard calling function, I would blame this issue on VOIP quality: either your latency is high, Skype is having quality issues, or some combination of the two. I have issues with Skype call quality on both my phone and my PC, and the issues are largely to do with Skype throttling the call bandwidth.
what about my mic issue the sounds very low. is there a way to change the gain on the microphone? I always use my phone by calling 1 of my friends I'm placing the phone beside my desk as I speak with them they can't hear me with this new phone they were able to perfectly hear me with the galaxy Nexus.

[Q] Issue receiving incoming calls

I've the S4 for a little over a week, but it's been a rather busy week so I haven't given it my full attention as yet. I really like it so far, I haven't gotten all the bells and whistles to work and I'm testing battery life with them disabled vs enabled etc. But I'm not really doing much else with it yet.
The only actual issue I'm having is receiving phone calls. When someone calls me, it takes a couple rings on their end before my phone starts ringing (I've encountered this with Sprint before though) but then when I try to answer the call, I don't get the person on the other end. I get a recorded message telling me I've got an incoming call from (name of caller in my contacts list) and if I want to accept to press 1 now. The message takes so long to get to that point that by the time it tells me to press 1 to accept the call, the call goes into voicemail.
I don't receive a lot of phone calls, but I would like to be able to actually answer them when I do. As of now when someone does call me I have to call them back.
This message plays AFTER I've 'accepted' the call on the screen and it plays through the handset not the speakers. I have Google voice set up for my voicemail.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Sounds like you have google voice setup or you used to. You will have to go to the site on your pc to disable it.

I thought Google Voice had something to do with it but I didn't think of checking the settings via PC.
For anyone else with the same issue: Google.com/voice>settings>calls> call screening off.

[Q] End Call Disconnects Both calls when in call waiting

When you are on a call and receive a second call.... I can answer the 2nd call and swap between the 2
However, when you press END CALL on the active call.. it disconnects BOTH calls. That NEVER happened on my S4.
Is this a software glitch? Anyone else have this issue?

My Galaxy S4 handled it correctly. It disconnects only the active call
I actually tested it out yesterday on a friends S4
I just found this on Verizons website
o Initiate Call Waiting:
When you're on the line and a second call comes in, you'll hear a tone to let you know you have another call. When that happens, you have three choices:
Put the first call on hold by pressing SEND. You'll automatically be connected with the second call. To return to the first call: Press SEND again. To switch between the two calls: Press SEND.
Or, end the first call by asking the first caller to hang up. This automatically connects you to your waiting call.
Really.. I have to ask the other person to hang up? That so F'n Stupid... I know this worked on my S4..
That's how the note 3 works and how the s3 worked. You hit swap when you are done. Not intuitive. I've accidentally hung up on many a caller.

Seems thats the way it works... I definitely know that on the S4, it correctly hung up only the active call...
Oh well... Phone is still great. I live with it.
