Vibrrrrate? - XPERIA X10 General

Hey,
Back when I had my W600, the vibration on that thing was like an earthquake in my pants. But I feel that the X10's vibrate is rather weak (for incoming calls, texts, etc.)
Anyone have any thoughts/solutions?
Cheers

I had to laugh a bit when you wrote 'earthquake in my pants' but I'm sure the vibrate on this isn't meant to be as strong as a bulky phone like the W600. I doubt there are adjustments for this in the phone standard

Wow welcome to the world of SE smart phones. Go back and read the x1 forums about vibrate your answer lies there. B-)
xda app on my x10a. finally!

sorry, that really doesn't help.
Is there a software to increase the vib's strength?

There isn't any solution as yet - The only chance we have to improve this is either through future f/w or via using the root..

I had a W810, and I know what you mean...If it was on a table, people on the floor below would hear it vibrate lol.
There might be a way to make the vibration last longer, but considering how slim the phone is, it's probably impossible to make the vibration any stronger...

there is a app called *sms popup* have rally good *earthquick in pants* lol

OK so your pants might be safe from a mega earth quake but have a go with HandCent sms. You can modify the vibrate in the settings/notifications area and there is a custom function that you can make the vibrate go on as long as you like, even multiple vibrates (Quite apart from that its a good text app with many areas customisable)
Happy vibrating!

LOLed at earthquake in my pants.

Take a look at the closeup pictures of the vibra engine within my Upskirt thread.
There is some room, so that you can probably make the hammer/flywheel/anvil a little heavier.
Maybe with a drop of solder ore something equal to gain the diameter and weight.
The worse the true running is, the more the earthquake is rushing through your pants...

I had an HTC DIAMOND which is thinner then the X10 and the vibrate on that is way better then the X10.

Increasing the vibration?!

I don't know about everybody else, but the vibration on my x1a completely SUCKS!! And that is definitely not good, being that it also has a very low ringer volume. Because of this I'm missing calls and texts in environments with mild noise. Throughout the day, I carry my x1 in a leather case that attaches to my belt. When I walk (and even when I'm sitting still) I can't even feel the vibration. The case was designed for my Blackjack II, so I understand that being since the x1 is smaller and doesn't fill the entire case, I wont feel the vibration as much. But this is just downright ridiculous! Even if I put the x1 on my thigh while i'm sitting, I still barely feel it!
So I want to know if there is any way to increase the vibration strength or something? Are their any apps or registry edits I can make? Please help me...I REALLY love this phone but I'm considering returning it just because of the low ringer/weak vibration. What's the sense in having a phone if you don't even know when you're receiving calls/texts?
Same problem, vibration too weak
I have same problem since i carry the phone in a leather pouch on my belt. I can't feel anything vibration having to do with texts. Anyone know how to fix this problem ?

glad to see that I'm not the only one having this problem. I thought that buying a case made specifically for the x1 would make a tighter fit so that I would be able to fell the vibration
I find the speaker pretty loud when it isn't covered
but just wondering at the asian places there are cellphone charms that
light up when you get an incoming text/call
im just wondering if there are charms that vibrate when that occurs it would be so useful lol

Vibrator in XPERIA is so weedy?

when the XPERIA vibrates in my pocket i can literally not feel it.... its that weak!
I saw in another thread that H-Torch can damage it but i havent used that at all really - but maybe the 20 seconds i had it on has already damaged my vibrator?
Its so weak its stupid now
any help would be greatly appreciated.
also it sounds really loud yet i can barely feel the vibrate even in my hands
Sadly the most useful thing about the vibration is that it is noiser than the ringtones.
I agree, it isnt that strong.
really disapointing
true..and i used H-torch and it killed my vibration component and now my phone doesnt vibrate at all, can say that i miss much though.
i agree with all your posts
unfortunately i cannot add and positive thoughts on how to solve it.
I have hTorch and my X1 vibrates normally. But I think the strength of the vibration is not very big I must admin (and this far much before I had the idea to visit xda and install hTorch).
My best strong vibrating phones were Nokia 3210, 7210 and 7250, people around me always told me my phones were responsibles for the earthquakes But at that times, the battery was used only to power a GSM not a full computer like we have now, so I guess it was not difficult to have get energy to get big vibrations
i dont think the vibrate has alerted me to a single message or call yet! i keep missing calls and texts i think its more down to the size of the vibrator in the phone rather than the battery. if anything it should be more powerful with that 1500mah battery. i would of thought the inside of the X1 is quite full so they could only squeeze in a small vibrating unit.
yea - the vibrator in the phone is almost pointless
it's not that much strong . .
i don't use it anyway
You can't just sit there with your sound on (and I don't want to forget to turn it off) so I have since I have a mobile (I think 7 years now) always had it on vibrating, but this is the first phone where I look at the screen and somebody called me and I missed it. Most of the time I don't feel it, expecially when I'm cycling. Very annoying!
think we should complain to se and tell them to make it better or put in a better vibrate or something because its so useless currently
Well I think they can maybe solve it with a software update. It seems as the vibrator is vibrating to fast so it gets an 'even' feel and you don't notice it that much.
You guys are too used to your vibrators in your pocket...lol

What are you a girl or something? Men don't need vibrators.
I dropped my X1 yesterday and now it vibrates a lot stronger. I guess some part inside the phone shifted ...
Kind of annoying, since I didn't think it was to weak
lol chalid...
well guys, have the same problem...The first time I miss calls and texts... It is a little bit too weak, not much though.
Yeah, lets complain, maybe they do something
i tot it was too strong lol
My vibrate function just died ...
y will it die???
It is definitely weaker than other phones I've had recently (Kaiser & V3x), but I always have my phone on vibrate, and very rarely miss a call due to not feeling it. If I'm walking I may miss a message mind you, but generally it's ok.
So it could be better, but I don't think it's as bad as some are making out (though perhaps mine is vibrating more vigorously than some of yours!).

Overall thoughts to those that have had time with the phone

Interested to hear the likes and dislikes of the NS from those that have had a little time with it.
I know I am hatting the call quality, poor battery meter and radio reception. Hope its just a matter of getting updates to correct these things.
Love the phone overall aside from some left out givens from the galaxy S line. Would like the phone to replace my Vibrant but the call quality so far is killing it for me. Knowing the phone will be first on the next update seems like a plus but at the cost of a few nice features.

I personally have not had any call quality issues, whats it like for you?
Here are my thoughts: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9870794&postcount=108
My only issues:
-Charges somewhat slowly (but it has great battery life)
-Gets hot when you charge it (biggest con for me)
-Maybe it was only because of the large amount of files I was copying, but when I mounted the USB storage it lagged quite a bit.

Yeah it lagged for me too, only when I was transferring though, safe to assume it was just that. As for the call quality, I find it very good, no complaints here.

My only problem would be the touch sensitivity on the left and right side of the phone....when landscape texting my thumb naturally hits the edge of the glass and dosent register =/ the vibrant does register but not the MT4G...
anyone else with this thing??
I think it is AWESOME!
coming from a nexus one
LOVE
4" SAMOLED screen especially outside
speed
TRUE multi touch
seems like it has better building penetration for reception
HATE
no notification light
no 2nd microphone for noise cancellation

Calls sound digitized and buzzy. I sound find to the other party but my side sounds too processed. My Vibrant and N1 are clear with no artifacts. Will swap it out when stock is back up and give it a second chance.
Poor reception in my area at the house. AT&T full bars, on T-Mobile, my bars go from full to 0 to 3, it's just weird, I can just sit here and see it move around.
3G not so great here either. Both these issues is with Cell Coverage, so not really phone related.
No Notification Light is still a big annoying. noLED helps a little but that software needs some major tweaking/options for me to completely like it.
Gingerbread 2.3 keyboard: Stock 2.2 you can swipe left to right to engage voice, no such feature in 2.3, and the mic icon (if you want voice) replaces the comma button , if you turn off the mic icon, comma appears, but now you can't engage voice sigh. Bring back swipe for voice please Google.
Screen is incredible. 100x better than Nexus One. Even in daylight. Only complaint is that it's TOO DAMN BRIGHT.... fixed with the app Screen FIlter.
Web browsing zooming in/out is a bit laggy and not as smooth as I'd like.
No issues on call quality to and from.
I like that the power button is on the side. The external speaker is amazing, huge upgrade form the Nexus One. So much louder and fuller.
I'm coming off a CyanogenMod Nexus One, and happy as heck the Nexus S got rooted first day. I've running everything I need/want on the Nexus S right now. No hiccups from switching from Nexus One CM6.1

Go somewhere noisy. Make a call and the person you are talking to will be lucky to hear half of what you say. The NS is absolutely amazing at picking up every noise but the ones coming from your mouth.

My dad is on his second NS. Everything he moves (walks or driving) while on a call the person on the other end will start hearing the call being choppy.
So far, my phone has been great.
I only have two complaints about the Nexus S:
- I wish they had used some kind of text coating on the casing to give it a bit of extra grip. The phone, when I first handled it, was really slick.
- There's the ever so slight separation between the glass and casing at the edges that can, will, and does attract dust/dirt/whatevs.
And just one general rant: Stop rearranging the god damn capacitive buttons. Pick an order and stick with it. Google/the OEMs can change the pictures or icons if you like, but please pick an order. It's not fun to relearn a phones buttons every time you get a new one.

It might seem minor, but it really drives people up the wall. My girlfriend decided against upgrading from her N1 to the NS solely because "What? They changed the key layout? Why would they do that?" And she is no dummy, (PHD in organic chem) she could easily adapt in a day or two. But ppeople really value consistency. The proper button order should be part of the Android specs and not left up to the whims of every 2 bit company using Android.

What I don't like about Galaxy Note

To be fair to all those considering Note, after all praising (I still do think it's best phone in the world right now), there are definitely drawbacks.
Here is one for example:
The regular phone speaker above the screen (not the loud one on the back) is not pointing sound into one direction. You can even speak on the phone with back side of Galaxy Note put to you ear, you will still be able to hear everything clearly, even on low volume.
On top volume, it is comparable to speaker phone on some other phones, so if you pick up a phone while surrounded by other people (unless you are in very loud place) they will hear the other person.
While in the office, I noticed myself turning volume down a lot when I pick up the phone.
I dont have this kind of problem , my old Nokia phone does.
Sure someone can hear some of the content near the phone you are talking in a dead silent arwa, it's inevitable.
I feel Gnote already perform quite well compare to the other phones, like HTCs in this area

to be honest id rather it was loud and have the ability to turn the volume down than it be too quiet and unable to turn the volume up
as my mum used to say,if its cold its better to have a coat and be able to take it off if you get hot than be cold and need a coat and not have one

It's not a question of whether badly working phone is better than no phone. It's a question of best phone being of high quality. In this case its potential privacy concern.
I switched from iPhones, where it was not an issue. If you put it tight to your ear in silent room, none else hears the person on the other end. Even on loud.
Like I've said above, on Note in silent room regular speaker (not the loud speaker) is comparable to loud speaker on some other phones. You can hear through the phone! Test yourself, make a call with screen side out, battery cover side to your ear, you might be surprised, that it's practically no difference what side you hold it to the ear, even on lowest in-call volume you can still comfortably speak with wrong side of the phone touching your ear.
I have not tried other Notes than mine, but I seriously doubt that it is one time occurrence, seems to me like an engineering issue, not enough sound insulation behind the speaker, just few thin layers of plastic.
If it is such a privacy concern, why not use a bluetooth headset or earbuds? Why not leave the room instead of taking the call in the room?
I mean there are more options that just sitting there letting everyone else hear your conversation if you feel that you have something to hide. But then again, your talking so they naturally are going to hear at least 1 part of the conversation no matter what. So I fail to see how you can really be concerned with privacy when they hear everything you say anyways, right?
If you were that worried about privacy you would send texts, emails or use an IM program to send messages so that no one knew what was being said or talked about. But since you are willing to sit in the room and let them listen to what at least you are saying, then you are not overly concerned with them at least hearing part of the conversation.
When I get a call that I dont want anyone else to hear I either leave the room, put on my earbuds or tell the person I will call them back when I can talk. So really it isnt about privacy concerns at all, it is just an inconvience for you to know that the speaker is loud. Louder than you are used to at least.
Fuuny that you mention this because i never thought i'll use those bt headsets until i own the Note. Each time i put it in my ear, my worry is not the volume but the number of heads turning towards me and the the sheepish grin that follows.
--- --- --- ---
A damn proud Galaxy Note owner.
Maybe try turn down the volume and using a case.
I wonder how those HTC phones perform because they all have ear speakers that are wide across the width of the phone itself.

The sacrifices of water-proofing not worth it.

The first thing that lured me into buying the Xperia Z is now the reason I want rid of the phone.. The flaps are driving me mad and the poor call quality in crowded places and rubbish speaker is useless, I can't hear anyone on the phone if I'm outdoors, the fact is; the One thing I needed and expected the phone to do was be able to make a call and hear the person I'm speaking too..
It's a good phone, but between the call problems, the battery over heating and those awful flaps it's a bit of a nightmare. It's only been 1 month, but thank goodness I'm only on a 12 month contract.. If this is the "best of Sony in a smartphone" then god help them.
buy an headset :good:
thanks for posting that out, I'm about to buy this phone and you really made me think this through..
If any body else has some opinions on the subject, please do share!
I find the earpiece volume and clarity to be absolutely fine and can hear people even in the most loud of situations including roadworks outside where I work. Stop dunking it and try another providers SIM card as some are quieter than others.
Also edit the sound settings under phone and you can make it even clearer.
Bluetooth is the way to go-to avoid the flaps although I have no issues with them
I think it's worth it.
Hell, it's raining right now while I'm typing this. And the phone is perfectly fine
as much as it saddens me to say this but i agree also. beautiful phone in terms of looks but way too many cons. poor wifi poor call quality and web experience is big no no. now just have to decide between htc one or galaxy s4

Clear Phase isn't supposed to lower ambiant noise while using the phone call ? I have no problem with my XZ when making phone calls.
And they gave a good headset with it...
no disrespect intended but your mad i have to turn the volume down just so the person next to me hears my private phone call. i really have no problem with it and was afraid of the call quality before i bought it becasue of the forums complaining but honestly my ear volume is turned half way down.
I do agree with most of the people on here about the speaker its a little low but im i just bought bluetooth speakers and run it through that phone is really good imho it beats any other phone out there in design alone, i know if i bought the samsung galaxy s 4 i would never be as happy as what i am with the xperia z but thats just me.
i hate rounded curves and the look of samsung galazy series just dosnt do it for me at all im still in awe when i see my xperia z on the coffee table the way it sits there its amazing i know i will never get sick of it.
to the people who are wanting to buy the phone but who are afraid because of a few negative reviews and a few trolls dont be afraid you will love it

To the OP, my Z is fine for phone calls. Doesn't seem to be any different from any other phones I've had in the past. I agree the ports are slightly annoying but I also have the charging dock and bluetooth earphones, so I actually never have to open them again.

Realy loved the phone including all the flaps. (even considering buying another one but waiting another flgship from sony)
Some issues with the display but has been fixed by white balance app,
now it just the placement of the loudspeaker & the quality of sound coming from it making me a little bit disappointed even tho sony is an expert in speaker n sound.

I don't agree with OP.
Phone volume is just fine, sometimes I use headsets. Also have a charging dock.
Flaps don't bother me one bit and the phone looks so sleek with them.
to get anything good you need to sacrifice something, For me extra care with flaps is what i dont mind. now i dont have to bother taking care of my phone in the heavy rains in india. Call volume is good for me, loudspeaker volume maybe less, but i only use loudspeaker for my wake up alarms and it does the job well. so i have no complains other then the lagging camera.
I find the flaps annoying so have a charging dock as a result it's rare that I need to open flaps
I do however find call quality perfectly fine and even the load speaker is ok for a phone
