ok, so like many of you i've had the phone since the 15th and unlike some of you, i like it. lol it's actually my 1st android smartphone. i think it's decently fast, and according to the specs, it's supposed to be. i was just curious what people's speeds were.
i live in chicago and am gettin on average .65 mbps download and .55 mbps upload. are these good numbers? now when i'm on my wireless i've gotten 9.58 mbps download and 3.00 mbps upload. which is obviously way better but just on tmo's 3g, are those good??? i cant wait for HSPA numbers here in chicago but it's not here yet. :/ anyways, what kinda numbers are you guys gettin? thanks...
I get close to 3mb dl and 1.5ul when I'm at work at the port of l.a. and around .45 dl and .75 ul when I'm at home in long beach, ca. on my wireless I get around 14.9mb dl and 3.5mb ul on verizon fios.
Sent from Samsung Vibrant using XDA App
I average about 1mb downloads and .6 uploads. Most ive seen was about 1.4 mb
2.2 Mb Down 1.2Mb Up in New York City.
It's in my sig.
so are my 3g speeds ok? lol i mean i dont really notice it bein that slow like some others complain but bein my 1st andriod phone, i'm not really sure what kinda speeds i'm supposed to get. i'm assuming regardless of you being on tmo, the 3g speeds still vary from city to city or region to region rite?
They're not HSPA+ but they are normal for the regular 3G network.

ok, mine is in my sig, but these are not average results. Its really weird that I can sometimes get up to 6mb down and almost 2mbs up but only at the rear entrance of the building I work in. My average is about 600k to 900k all over northern Georgia.
I thought that 600k was really slow thats because I was using a G1, with the Vibrant 600k is plenty fast for what I use it for.

Wow.. I doubt it, that's supposed to be fairly accurate. To compare, using that same app, I typically get around 600kbps.
I'm using CM 5.0.2 + latest radio rom.
3G appears to be more stable.
Speed is much faster than usual. I got 2500-4000kbps from several tests last night. I'm in Chicago.
I'm tethering it with my laptop and it's faster & more stable than Sprint 4G/Overdrive.

ran this morning, right up the road from the Texas Rangers' Ballpark.
I'm in Fort Worth and I don't see anything close to the speed mentioned in the OP.
One thing that kinda makes sense though, considering that the OP mentioned the speeds posted was in Arlington, is perhaps Tmobile bumped up their network in Arlington as a way to show their networks capabilities to Tmobile users that were in town for the NBA All Stars. After all if I remember correctly, Tmobile is a sponsor and it would be a shame if Tmobile users can't get any decent data coverage in the stadium.
Ran tests all over Dallas, and Richardson. I always get around .6-.9Mb/s down and about .2-.5Mb/s up. This was done with the ookla app. The one from xtreme labs gave me even 2-3Mb/s, but it seems buggy, since i never got that speed...
Went to Houston this winter, and got about 2Mb/s in the airport, which was at least double of the speed i am getting in Dallas area... T-Mo 3G is kinda ****ty in Dallas.
Here is the story: http://www.androidspin.com/2010/03/17/its-twoo-its-twoo-4g-speed-is-a-reality/
Is it possible to develop and get us rooted users on 4G? I am a little uncertain of what the article is assuming.
i dont believe it but if its true... WOW
Yeah, Im not sure what a developer could do, to piggy back these speeds.
Hmmm.
1.3mbps on 4G? That's it? And which 4G? You mean Sprint's WiMAX? Or someone else's 4G network that has not been built yet?
I'm calling it. Shenanigans.

I am uncertain as well and those sure don't look like 4G speeds to me. However, I think there are hardware limitations that will prevent the N1 or any current phone from taking advantage of 4G. I don't believe it is equipped with the proper antenna and therefore maxed out at 7.2mbps

i'm in Dallas and i'm getting stellar download speeds on T-Mo 3G, but uploads are a different story (see below). with 4G, would we see higher upload speeds as well???
There is no 4G on T-Mobile, not for a while, and our phones don't do 4G.
I'm not sure I would call 21mbps 4g (whatever that's supposed to mean). Here in Norway there is already a company that has a working LTE-network up and running (although only in the capital) and that has a theoretical top speed of 100mbps. Think the net is limited to 50mbps atm, but I've yet to meet anyone that has bought a modem (no, it's not compatible with current phones).

What speed test utility do you use when you're tethered? mobilespeedtest.com is known to give wildly inaccurate (sometimes even impossible) results..
Hello Everyone,
I find if I use Opera Browser for www.mobilespeedtest.com I get realistic results.

Also, Read My Thread Here, I think we are being throttled but T-Mobile's network limiting the RWIN.

Ok cool, thanks...I just thought you were saying you had used speedtest.net, and I just cringe whenever I hear anybody referring to test results from there. just downloaded the speedtest.net app and my "H" speed is really slow. With no wifi, I get download speed of 219kbps and upload of 473 kbps.
Anyone know why? is is with my signal with H and full bars.
What type of latency are you seeing?
I only ask this because at night around 10pm or so, I notice I get speedtest results like this but my latency reads around 275ms. It doesn't recover until about 7 am.
I am in the NW suburbs of Chicago.
An interesting note, other speed test sites do not seem to reflect this slowdown so I am inclined to think that my problem is related to the speedtest app and not the connection. IDK..
I am in Detroit and I get crappy speeds too. I found out that even though it says "H" in the mortification area, it still could be 3g or even the old edge for data.
I called tmo about this last week, and the response I got was HSPA is not official in your area yet. This could be the same for you as well. Let me know what you find out.
I'm not 100% sure if HSPA+ has hit my area yet (Phoenix), it's been a while since I last checked. I don't seem to be having any speed troubles like you have stated. My best score so far is 4162 down, 599 up. Consistency is my only problem. I average anywhere between 2000 and 4000 kbps depending on my area.
Depending on what app you use I guess and location. I'm in Houston and I use mobilespeedtest.com app.
I can get most of the time 23000-26000+ Kbps and on occasion 36000+ Kbps which is blazing fast I use the 7mb test.

Sorry no I did not add any extra zeros. Whether the app is correct or not I can't comment on that.
Out of curiosity what do others get with this same app? There is a obvious difference in that the mobilespeedtest app is in kbps vs the other test is in Mbps.
I also think the fact that the size of the file downloaded could have an impact on the results.

Man LTE is sooooo amazing. But the uploading being 22 is f**king awesome!
just thought I would clear this up, The high uploads are due to the speedtest app not being able to measure LTE uploading correctly.

Oh that makes sense. But I get those download speeds on my Moto Atrix!
Is anyone else having a problem with their atrix switching to Edge? I'll try to run a speed test or watch a video and it will just randomly switch to edge, then no signal, then back to H. What's the deal?
That was the point of this post. Most atrixes (Atrices?) are faster than this. Mine gets 5 down
Intersting results - mine were much different in Phoenix AZ.
I think in general the speedtest app is broken. When doing it on the webpage I was getting more consistantly between 15-20 MBps download and 5 MB upload.
I am actually giving back my atrix tomorrow. Best phone I have ever had, but the network is not even 3g speed out here (even with a microcell in my house I still can not get over 1.5 MB download and we all know about the stellar upload speed)

LTE uses a single channel(SC)-FDMA while WiMax still uses OFDMA for their respective uplink signaling. OFDMA is what 3G uses, hence why you can still get an accurate reading on the Evo.
