Droid X for GSM/3G - Droid X General

Will GSM/3G Droid X be released or not?

Doubtful. In America at least.

Highly doubt it, they might make a gsm replica with a different name.

If its a droid its cdma only. The milestone is the gsm model.

Wait for the Droid2 World Edition, it will have a dual GSM/CDMA radio in it

won't hacking it (using custom rom) solve this problem??

No, the cellular radio is different for GSM phones, not to mention the lack of a SIM card slot. It's a physical difference which cannot be changed with software.
Like others have said, the Milestone is the exact same phone but with a GSM radio. Or wait for the Droid 2 WE.

Droid 2 Global for an Droid X?

Trying to decide if i should exchange my D2G for an Droid x or even an Incredible...
Wanted some input from ya'll in here to see what you think is the best route?
Returning the Global cause I rarely used the hard keyboard and the extra bulk was annoying

I haven't tried the droid 2 but I have the droid x
So far I have really loved this phone. 4.3 inch screen is awesome, the processor is great, and the camera and hdmi is just fantastic. I did have issues with the first phone I received, the camera didn't take as good quality as I thought it should. Now that the X has a rom called Liberty it is even that much more awesome.
I have processed my exchange for a Droid X. Looking forward to it!

Should of waited for the bionic. Tis tis tis but the x is cool just wait until some underground hacker unlocks the bootloader man that will be the day.

I am trying to make the decision of which one to get at the moment, Droid 2G or the Droid X. Is there any reason to think one phone is more solid than the other?
I love my DX. I came from an iPhone and will never look back unless iOS changing a few things. If you pick the DX you will love it. HTC does make great phones but the size of this screen makes other things feel obsolete

Going to the Droid x

My Dad got me the HTC evo at the beginning of the year but now me and him want data (we were flashed to pageplus but data didn't work on them). So my question is what is the best. rom, kernal, ect for the Droid x. I just want to be ready when I get the Droid x and messing arround for days trying to get the best combination or roms and kernals.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Well.
Good luck with that.
We have a locked bootloader, kid. The kernels we're provided are the kernels we get.
But as far as ROMS go...
I like Liberty. Both the froyo and gingerbread versions are great.
I haven't really played with the others...for...like 5 months.
So maybe they're holding ground too, but I wouldn't know.
Apex 2.0 is talked about a lot.
Zombie Stomped
Fission
P.S.
You're switching carriers and picking up a Droid X?
I assume you're going to lock yourself into a 2 year contract?
Not to be rude...and nothing against the X...
But this phone will be a year old in July.
The X2 is already out, actually.
I'd get something top-of-the-line for the extra $50 if you're going to be stuck with it for two years.
No my dad buys them off of craigslist. And the evo wont get 4g service but my dad got the x and it works great

My advice is to influence your father to make the better choice and go for the newer device. From the purely economic point of view, buying a year old phone now results in an increased likelyhood of failure or desire for a newer phone in the two years of your contract, buying the new phone now means you are more able to make it two years without being left behind.

I have the evo now its like a year old now and I'm not going to Verizon I'm getting the Droid x because 4g works on it with the network we have but the evo doesn't

Not even the dx2 has 4g, you may want to do a little more research before you pick out a phone

Gingerbread
No it was a typo. But I'm still getting the Droid x

I'm upgrading tonight. HELP!

I'm upgrading tonight and finally ditching the Droid X. I'm either getting the HTC Rezound or the Droid Razr Maxx. Both have tons of pros and cons. I need your opinions. Please help!

Maxx from a prior owner of one should of never got rid of that thing

Yes from a friend

I went from a Droid X to a Razr Maxx... what a great phone. I can't say enough good things about it.
Is it easy to root the maxx? Or has Motorola made it a pain in the ass to deal with the bootloader?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA
I haven't used either, but from a pure hardware POV, the Rezound dominates. Dual core clocked at 1.5, better screen PPI IIRC, dual LED flash, better FFC, plus the unlockable boot loader allowing for a much larger, more active dev community. If it hasn't received official ICS yet, I believe some leaked ROMs are out there and like the Razr, it's going to get official ICS sooner rather than later.
If you're looking to rom and tweak the Rezound would probably be the better bet.
But if you're just looking for great battery life and a solid stock software build, go with the Razr Maxx.
Or you could always get a Galaxy Nexus.

I am on Verizon - the only reason I would like to root is to avoid the tether fee... would like to occasionally hook up my laptop or android tablet through the WiFi... like a large screen... Thanks - Dan
If the Razr is at all like the D3 (and newer Moto phones IIRC), tethering is blocked and even the apps don't work without first manually rewriting the radio's hex signatures. The Rezound can most likely take custom kernels and thus have native tethering.

A Z for the V?

I'm dying for a worthy replacement for my Razr. I believe I have found it in the z! Any chance we May see it on Verizon's network?

None if you ask me. Sony isn't really bothering with the US this year (focusing on Japan and Europe) and was never big on building phones for Verizon/Sprint.
You're better off switching to T-Mobile or AT&T and getting an unlocked one from Sony.com.

I would switch in a heartbeat except I don't want to give up my unlimited data plan. Guess I may end up waiting for the X phone.

You're most likely to see the UL, as it is designed for networks transitioning from cdmaOne and friends to LTE but not yet finished.
