I'm upgrading tonight. HELP! - Droid X General

I'm upgrading tonight and finally ditching the Droid X. I'm either getting the HTC Rezound or the Droid Razr Maxx. Both have tons of pros and cons. I need your opinions. Please help!

Maxx from a prior owner of one should of never got rid of that thing

Have you tried the rezound as well?

Yes from a friend

I went from a Droid X to a Razr Maxx... what a great phone. I can't say enough good things about it.

Is it easy to root the maxx? Or has Motorola made it a pain in the ass to deal with the bootloader?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA

I haven't used either, but from a pure hardware POV, the Rezound dominates. Dual core clocked at 1.5, better screen PPI IIRC, dual LED flash, better FFC, plus the unlockable boot loader allowing for a much larger, more active dev community. If it hasn't received official ICS yet, I believe some leaked ROMs are out there and like the Razr, it's going to get official ICS sooner rather than later.

If you're looking to rom and tweak the Rezound would probably be the better bet.
But if you're just looking for great battery life and a solid stock software build, go with the Razr Maxx.
Or you could always get a Galaxy Nexus.

I am on Verizon - the only reason I would like to root is to avoid the tether fee... would like to occasionally hook up my laptop or android tablet through the WiFi... like a large screen... Thanks - Dan

If the Razr is at all like the D3 (and newer Moto phones IIRC), tethering is blocked and even the apps don't work without first manually rewriting the radio's hex signatures. The Rezound can most likely take custom kernels and thus have native tethering.

Droid 2 Global for an Droid X?

Trying to decide if i should exchange my D2G for an Droid x or even an Incredible...
Wanted some input from ya'll in here to see what you think is the best route?
Returning the Global cause I rarely used the hard keyboard and the extra bulk was annoying

I haven't tried the droid 2 but I have the droid x
So far I have really loved this phone. 4.3 inch screen is awesome, the processor is great, and the camera and hdmi is just fantastic. I did have issues with the first phone I received, the camera didn't take as good quality as I thought it should. Now that the X has a rom called Liberty it is even that much more awesome.
I have processed my exchange for a Droid X. Looking forward to it!

Should of waited for the bionic. Tis tis tis but the x is cool just wait until some underground hacker unlocks the bootloader man that will be the day.

I am trying to make the decision of which one to get at the moment, Droid 2G or the Droid X. Is there any reason to think one phone is more solid than the other?
I love my DX. I came from an iPhone and will never look back unless iOS changing a few things. If you pick the DX you will love it. HTC does make great phones but the size of this screen makes other things feel obsolete

Droid x2 pics and specs

Thought you all might enjoy this... looks pretty nice, but they still include the locked bootloader. Anyone willing to deal with that again or will you condemn moto to the way of the razr? Personally, unless blur is MUCH improved they won't be getting any more of my money. /end rant

Thicker, no FFC, no 4G no thanks.
No 4G won't even touch it, whats the point.
Locked boot = at the mercy of motorola regarding updates
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Frankly, screw Motorola. I like my Droid X, but the whole bootloader issue is guaranteeing I will never buy another device from them until/unless they change their ways.
I will never buy another Moto product with a locked bootloader...
Will go with htc next time... Just because of what they've been able to do with the evos UI, things we will never see on the droidx like MIUI,.and Myns warm rom looks pretty sweet.

Going to the Droid x

My Dad got me the HTC evo at the beginning of the year but now me and him want data (we were flashed to pageplus but data didn't work on them). So my question is what is the best. rom, kernal, ect for the Droid x. I just want to be ready when I get the Droid x and messing arround for days trying to get the best combination or roms and kernals.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Well.
Good luck with that.
We have a locked bootloader, kid. The kernels we're provided are the kernels we get.
But as far as ROMS go...
I like Liberty. Both the froyo and gingerbread versions are great.
I haven't really played with the others...for...like 5 months.
So maybe they're holding ground too, but I wouldn't know.
Apex 2.0 is talked about a lot.
Zombie Stomped
Fission
P.S.
You're switching carriers and picking up a Droid X?
I assume you're going to lock yourself into a 2 year contract?
Not to be rude...and nothing against the X...
But this phone will be a year old in July.
The X2 is already out, actually.
I'd get something top-of-the-line for the extra $50 if you're going to be stuck with it for two years.
No my dad buys them off of craigslist. And the evo wont get 4g service but my dad got the x and it works great
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
My advice is to influence your father to make the better choice and go for the newer device. From the purely economic point of view, buying a year old phone now results in an increased likelyhood of failure or desire for a newer phone in the two years of your contract, buying the new phone now means you are more able to make it two years without being left behind.

Wireless Hotspot hack procedure *Working*

****** UPDATE - Foxfi is no longer free - This hack still works!*******
Hi guys another poster tipped me off to the entilement hack to get the stock hotspot app working and I tried it and it works. I figured i would post it here to take care of people waiting for a foxfi update and to keep the procedure listed in the RAZR HD section. As always, use at your own risk.
Here's what you need:
SQL Lite Editor (not the manager) - it's $2.99 from the play store.
Here is the procedure:
1) Open SQL Lite Editor and in the default "Apps" list, scroll all the way down to "Settings Storage" but you must choose the one with the hammer and wrench graphic. There are two choices there - gotta be hammer and wrench. Tap on it to open.
2) Tap "settings.db" then tap "settings"
3) Scroll down to line 68 where it says "entitlement_check" and tap on it to highlight it and then tap on the pencil on the top of the screen to edit it.
4) Change the value from 1 to 0 and tap "save"
5) Use the back button to exit the app and hold the power button and reboot the phone.
When it starts back up just go into the "Mobile Hotspot" app provided by verizon and you're all set!
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the reminder! I totally forgot about this hack from Bionic days..

Shoot...I came across your post and had to say I agree! I have a One X & an Atrix HD. I totally understand where you're coming from
So I'm getting an issue here. First off I followed the directions but I don't see a pencil anywhere. Regardless, I selected line 68 and hit the menu button to open it up and edit it. Problem is, I'm getting "error code 14: unable to open database file". Anybody got a tip?
EDIT: Nevermind, issue resolved. Downloaded an old APK which wouldn't do it. Guess I'm going to have to buy it now that it worked...

Thunderbolt (Voice and Data on 3G!)
Bionic (Horrible Radio!)
Droid Razr (Didn't get to use it that much, damn Best Buy mobile sold me a used/touched/tampered phone!)
Rezound (Best Radio, Ever! Superb screen for its size)
Galaxy Nexus (Horrible radio, great development community)
GS3 (Better radio than GN - just wished the radio was on par with the Rezound, cheap build quality, great hardware specs)
Razr Maxx HD (Great build quality! Expected more from a Moto Radio)

I'm thinking about jumping from my SGS3 to the Razr HD Dev edition. Are you having buyer's remorse or would you do it again. I'm dropping way to many calls with my SGS3, even more than I did with the GNex. I really miss Moto's build quality..

Thought I'd tip you all to this, FoxFi works if you download the add-on thats in the play store for FoxFi.
by using this hack, when i use the USB tethering, I will be using up the Data i have on my plan correct? the only thing is that i dont have to pay for the Hotspot?
Anybody try out barnacle? If not I can test it out.
Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk 2
Yes nearly every app had been tested essentially, including barnacle. Nothing worked when the phone was released.
Now, Foxfi has been updated and it works so hopefully all the others follow suit as well. Feel free to test it out and report back.
Barnacle is a no go

I 2nd ur opinion on expecting more from the radio. It just doesn't seen to get enough signal bars as other previously owned moto devices. I haven't had any dropped calls yet, but can't really complain it is a new device and maybe it can be fixed on a future update!

Mod-abilty of the razr M

Hello, my verizon contract is expiring and that means time to get a new android device! I previously had an xperia play, and I probably won't be missing it very much since it never got anything official past gingerbread. Anyways I really wanted to know is how moddable the razr is, like if I were to get on with my new contract would the current root and bootloader exploits work? I've read a little about motorola devices never having an unlocked bootloader and motorola didn't seem to be a modder friendly company. I've built some android for my xperia play, up 4.2.2 and I want to make sure whichever phone I get, I can play around with the software on it if I don't like it.
phew, what a mouthful.
The RAZR M is very mod-able. The bootloader is easily unlocked now, and it is also easy to root. However, there aren't as many roms for the RAZR M compared to other phones.
I own a RAZR M and I like it a lot, but at this point with your upgrade discount, I might recommend the Galaxy S4 if you're concerned with modding. I'm sure the bootloader will be unlocked for it very soon if not already. And I'm sure it will be rooted soon as well. And the kicker is that there will be a lot more roms for the GS4 than the RAZR M.
At this point, I like the stock software a lot since it is very close to vanilla Android AOSP. I am currently using a custom yet stock rom that has all the verizon bloatware already removed.
I would recommend the RAZR M.
Bootloader unlocked able, and you can root and mod to your hearts content.
I really appreciated the work you did in the R800x forums.

No reason it would be different on the Dev edition. They're the same phone except that on one of them, fastboot oem unlock doesn't fail out...
