ATT no longer unlocking cellphones - HTC Aria General

I tried my usual method of unlocking my new Aria as per my post in another thread and just received this email replay after the customer service person from the ATT unlock team could not immediately produce an unlcok code for me...

Dear Valued Customer,
Unfortunately, your request for a device-unlock code has been denied.
AT&T Mobility has exclusive marketing rights on this device and it is
not eligible to be unlocked, even for international travel. This is due
to a recent nationwide handset unlocking settlement that went into
effect July 1st, 2010. For further assistance please call
1-800-331-0500 or 001-916-843-4685 if outside of the U.S.
Additionally, you may refer to www.attlockinglawsuits.com for

Post specifically states that AT&T is not unlocking phones. It's not true. They are not unlocking specific phones. In this case because nobody else has the Aria. You are correct, however, they are locking the Aria to state side.
That said, I'd think it's already unlockable if you really want?

The subject line is incorrect as I also have just had a conversation with our ATT Business Line rep who emphatically stated that I *can* have my devices unlocked *after 90 days*.

Ah, so business as usual It's always been 90 days.

So what is the real story
Sorry if my information was not specific. I should have said the Aria phone is not being unlocked by ATT. Fine I got it. Now if you have a real comment about that then post it.
xdafly....what phone were you discussing with them? Was it the Aria that they said emphatically would be unlocked after 90 days? If so then that is quite different from my email.

If you read the link in the email it says you can unlock after ninety days
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App

WHAT DOES THE SETTLEMENT PROVIDE?
AT&T Mobility agrees to give to its eligible AT&T Wireless, Cingular and AT&T Mobility current and former customers, upon request and where available, codes that unlock AT&T Wireless, Cingular and AT&T Mobility handsets other than (i) the Apple iPhone; or (ii) any handset that AT&T Mobility introduces or has introduced for sale pursuant to a contract with a handset manufacturer that provides for an exclusivity period of ten (10) months or longer (“AT&T Handset”).
Unlock codes for AT&T Handsets will be provided to eligible postpaid customers who have completed a minimum of ninety (90) days of active service with AT&T Wireless, Cingular or AT&T Mobility and who are in good standing and current in their payments at the time of the request. For AT&T Handsets for which AT&T Mobility has an exclusive sales arrangement with a manufacturer of less than 10 months, the period of exclusivity associated with that sale must have expired before an unlocking code can be obtained.

I'm sure you've visited the website they linked to you? Otherwise, feel free to read the above excerpt.

so they are requiring that you have the device for 90 days before you can request to unlock it? interesting. in the past, my experience has always been if you have been a customer for more than 90 days they unlock it.

Exactly the point. I have been a customer with them since 2000 so this was something new that they threw out to me.

yeah, my family has had at&t since when they were still cingular, haha.
it seems they'd have some consideration for such long term customers.

I think you have to be 90 days into the contract, it's always been that way. However there are always exceptions to things, just depends on who and how you ask sometimes.
OP, I suggest you call the customer service line and ask again. Tell them you need it for international travel etc etc... Remind them they on their own web page say it's a world phone..
http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-ph...device=HTC+Aria+(TM)+-+Black&q_sku=sku4720254
Be polite, be forgiving.. If they say no, thank them, hang up, call back. If you're a brand new AT&T customer I doubt you'll get much help honestly, but if you've had service for a while and this is just a new contract etc, I suspect if you ask enough times you'll get the information.
If all else fails, $16..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=730028&highlight=unlock

For those that did not read the linked settlement it states that if the phone is exclusive to AT&T and it has not been 10 months from the release of the phone they will not give you an unlock code. Since the Aria is exclusive and came out the end of June it will be next April before you can get an unlock code pursuant to the settlement agreement unless another carrier comes out with the same handset then you just need to have the phone for 90 days.
I am sure they may bend the rules for some but other reps may stick to the settlement.

How to unlock your G1.. for free

Alas, the question that is asked by many... finally answered.
People, please do NOT give in to scams such as these.
You can unlock your phone, for FREE by calling T-Mobile.
Dial in 611 and when prompted say "representative".
You will be prompted for the standard account authorization (last 4 digits of the primary account holders social), then be transfered to an eagerly awaiting T-Mobile customer representative, who will be more than willing to hand over an unlock code for you.
That's it. It's that simple.
As for unlocking in foreign countries, I'm not sure how that would work out for you guys. Get in contact with a T-Mobile customer in good standing, and I'm sure he can unlock it for you with no problems

so i can call the # say representative my last 3 #s of my s.s.# and do i have to ask for 1 or do they just say it?

jf rc30 is not for sim unlocking which is using the g1 on other networks like att. etc..
To get an unlock code call 611 then ask for representative they will ask for the last 4 # on your ss thats is on file for that account. Then they will ask you why you want to unlock it just tell them your going out of county and you would like to use your phone there.
They will put the order in and it will take 24hr-14day because they submit it to htc.
They will need the imei of your g1 go get that number dail #06#
Thats what i did and i got my code in 2days free of charge.

i rang up t-mobile (UK) and they said they charge £15 to have it unlocked!
Also when calling in to tmo for your free sim unlock code make sure your bill is paid up to date.
It's not a scam if you're not a t-mobile costumer. I don't understand why this keeps coming up. T-mobile won't just send me a free code since I'm on ATT.
T-Mobile has to send you a code, try calling 1-877-453-1304.
oops! double post- browser issues....
so t-mobile HAVE to provide you with an unlock code if you ring them? What about if you aren't a customer and bought the phone off ebay? Can you get a friend with a t-mobile contract to ring?
u know u dont have to think about this if u buy one in Vietnam? I got mine for $464 with unlock code provided right at the couter desk. Errrhh... Do i miss something?

I think there is a US law that's come into affect that all Carriers must allow customers to unlock there phone free of charge.
In the UK though carriers are allowed to charge and will.
If it is a UK phone then they don't need to give it free.. but if it is a US Phone you can call the US number or email them and get a free unlock code.

USA has a new law that requires all cellphone providers to unlock your phone (free of charge). It's your legal right to unlock your phone, in the United States.
UK may be different, and like I said, you may need to check with your local policies.

Legally, if you are a T-Mobile customer for 3 months (or just a customer in good standing), you have the right to unlock ANY (T-Mobile) phone you'd like.
Regardless how you got your hands on it, as long as it isn't stolen, you are guaranteed an unlock code.
This article explains a little more about unlocking laws. (It speaks mainly about the legality of unlocking, but is aimed at the iPhone)

Not true. T-Mobile has to unlock it. It is the law by the FCC that any phone you buy can and must be unlocked by the original company on request.

Has anyone used htccode.com to unlock a U.S. Tmobile HD2?

I logged on to their site and chatted with the live person and asked if the U.S. Tmo HD2 was SIM unlockable. They said yes.
I proceeded to go through the motions. Bought unlock on Paypal. Ran local client. Got rejected saying US/France/Canada can't do the auto method, had to email them for code. Emailed. Heard back in about 20 mins. They said computer was not kicking back a unlock code.
This was about 6 hours ago. Still waiting.
Anyone have any luck with the U.S. HD2 and htccode.com? I'm not criticizing them just stating my experience so far.
If I get a code by tomorrow I'll be happy. Otherwise I would like a refund as Tmobile service in my area is not nearly as good as ATT. So I currently have ATT and was just trying the HD2. So I figured I'd unlock it and pop in my ATT SIM to see if I get better luck on reception. Otherwise I'm gonna have to try the Telstra model. Bigger investment.
And yes I know I won't get 3G on ATT. But as it is I'm not getting any reception whatsoever on Tmo.
Not much help to you, but I went with unlock-now.com. Been about 1.5 days and not a peep from them. I am in the same boat, trying to use it with ATT.
Wish luck for you by the morning. In my experience so far, htccode.com is really good and quick. I used them twice before and got my unlock code for only 10'
I am waiting for any good news from either of you...I want to use att sim

If your carrier in India supports the same bands the T-Mobile HD2 does then yes. People like me that are on ATT will be stuck on the 2g/Edge data connections because ATT and T-Mobile don't share the same 3g bands.
All a sim lock does is make only the carriers sim card work on the device.
And for the record still nothing from unlock-now. I wish they would at least reply to my support ticket, I understand it's a new device, but communication is key to a good business.
Let's hope htccode.com can figure this out...
can't you just call Tmobile and ask them for the unlock code? I've read somewhere they will give u the code after 2 or 3 days

I was about to ask the same question. T-Mobile is usually pretty good about giving out the unlock code. Especially if you bought the device unsubsidized.

I called them twice and was told they would give the code after a certain amount of time but only if you have had an active account as they need it to send you the code...I KNOW for a FACT that is not true but its what they told me both times. More likely they have the code right in front of them if not on the next screen, but its not the reps fault they just following orders.
So far:
freeyourhtc.com = Could not return a code...Refunded my money within 2 hours from purchase. $18.99
htc-unlocker.org = Emailed me code after 2 hours; it didn't work. BUT!!! They emailed me twice since saying they are working on it. After 24 hours they emailed me saying the code is not in any of the databases but they can request it from TMO but they want an additional $10.00 and it could take 3 days. $19.99
leo.unlock-now.com (unlock-now.com) = Not so much even as an email to say thank you for the payment. Still waiting, site says it could take up to 2 days...it has been almost a day and a half so far. They sent me a refund (Not quite 2 days yet) saying my code could not be found without me ever emailing them so I guess not so bad after all, also said try back in 15 days.$23.95
I also emailed 2 ebay unlock sellers they have not wrote back yet.
Man I miss Olipro and Cmonex ---They dont have an unlocker on their site yet!!!
BLAHHH
I am going through the same exact thing!
I used HTCCode.com and after I paid and d/l the client they say it wouldn't because my PayPal is from the U.S.
Sim-unlocker.com- is garbage. They haven't gotten back to me at all. They did how -ever happily take my money with out any issues
T-Mobile-They have been the most helpful, they said since I purchased my phone at a major retailer they would do it but I had to fax some info. I than said that was unacceptable and the kind lady asked if i had any friends on T-mobile. luckily I did and they said it would at max take 48hrs. I have been waiting since last night..

If I remember right there was a legal deal regarding the unlock code situation. You are the owner of the phone and have the right to the code. The carrier is required to give you the code. I have had good luck getting tmo USA to give me my codes on past phones. It sometimes takes a day or two because they had to get it from htc.

When I bought the phone and I made sure to request my phone would would be unlocked so I can compare with my AT&T service. I did not transfer my number and kept my AT&T account open.
When I called in to have it unlocked, one guy said they can't unlock it until after 14 days, which is the last day to return the phone in many states. I called again and a lady said I have to be through 2 billing periods or 40 days to get it unlocked. This is not written in my contract. I demanded something in writing and there is not a written policy or specific terms on this. But yet, I'm "contractually" binded to this "policy" even though it was never discussed to me nor was it in my contract. I didn't leave the store until I got a written documentation of the conversation around the 40 days.
Then I look at the Terms and Conditions online and line item #6 states customers have the right to have it unlocked.

I've been "pressuring" htccode.com to come up with a unlock. If they can do it I told them I'd put a post on my site (HTCHD2.NET) which might drum up some sales. It's gets a decent amount of hits so hopefully this will motivate them.

Let me know how the experience goes. I;m anxious to get one of these puppies
Unlock your T-Mobile US HTC HD2 - Pay Full Price!
Did you pay Full Price?
Congratulations! You win! It is still T-Mobile's USA policy to give you the unlock code for full price purchases as of 03/25/2010.
It took me three TMO USA customer care reps before finding the correct steps.
1) Buy your T-mobile USA HTC HD2 - $449.99 Plus Sales tax.
(Sales guy made it a prepay account - but he kept the sim card and did not assign me a phone number)
2) Call customer care 1-877-453-1304
(It asks for phone number; say "I don't have one". Hopefully get someone intelligent)
3) Request a Sim Unlock.
(Explain your full price purchase - they will start a remedy form and ask for your IMEI number from the box or use *#06# without the "01" on the end. Give them your e-mail address and contact number. They will give you a fax number and a Remedy Form number for the cover letter.)
4) Fax the cover letter and the proof of purchase.
(Fax to the Sim Unlock Team @ 813-353-6557 or whatever number they give you! Include your Name, Email Address, Contact phone number and Remedy Form number in the cover letter.)
5) Wait patiently.
(In about 24 hours you should receive an email from the Sim Unlock Department....
T-Mobile Sim Unlock Request
Sim Unlock Reference: 3456789
IMEI: 345678901234567
Thank you for taking the time to contact T-Mobile. We have forwarded your request to the manufacturer. These requests normally take 24-48 hours, but may sometimes take longer based on circumstances that are not under our control. Please allow 14 days before submitting a duplicate request. If no response has been received after 14 days, please submit a new request.
NOTE: Since T-Mobile is requesting an unlock code from the manufacturer we cannot guarantee the response time or that a unlock code will be provided.
Thank You,
Sim Unlock Department
T-Mobile USA, Inc.
6) Wait giddy with anticipation.
Oh, I just wanted to add that if you get the "Unfortunately, we are unable to process your request at this time" email from the Sim Unlock department; the customer care rep has messed something up on the remedy form, I know from experience.
Thats great and all, but what really frustrates me about this is that they DO NOT get the code from the manufacturer. In fact, locking phones to a carrier is DONE BY CARRIERS, so unlocking is not at all up to the manufacturer. HTC might manufacture the locked device on the carriers behalf, but the carrier owns all the rights to the unlock code by the time you the consumer request it.
Despite in the end they might actually give you the code, the reason they wait 24+ hours is NOT because they are retreiving from the manufacture. It's pretty much a check being run on you and your phone.
This is the bull**** T-Mobile won't tell you. You know what it takes to get unlock code for ATT? Just be a customer. If you own any att phone and have att service, you call tech support, ask for subsidy unlock, tell them you purchased phone thru att vendor and they ask for imei and in about 10 minutes they give you an unlock.
SURE T-SHMOBILE GIVES YOU AN UNLOCK EVENTUALLY, BUT THEY ARE LYING WHEN THEY TELL YOU IT WILL TAKE 24-48HRS!!!
Then try and buy a new digitiser without the silly T-Mobile logo on it and you're good to go!!

6) Wait giddy with anticipation.
Oh, I just wanted to add that if you get the "Unfortunately, we are unable to process your request at this time" email from the Sim Unlock department; the customer care rep has messed something up on the remedy form, I know from experience.

I was told if i faxed it would take 7 days.
So the kinda T-mo lady asked if i had any friends with T-mobile around me I luckily did and she told me to say I had to leave the country so they would unlock it in 48hrs.. This was over 48hrs ago and still no unlock code...
I'm stuck at work with an I-phone in one pocket and my fantastic useless HD2 in the other waiting for this email
Reading the forums i don't think i single person has unlocked the US HD2 yet have they?

I am currently waiting for a code from both TMOUS and HTCCODE.
After my first two attempts with TMOUS failed because of the customer care reps. I used HTCCODE.com and they have a one day head start getting my code and has yet to produce it.
Also it has been the scariest transaction I have ever encountered.
First it forces you to register
then it forces you to use paypal
then it forces you to DL some type of crapware
then it tells you that they dont trust paypal
that you need to email them the paypal transaction info; that paypal just emailed to them.
I am just watching my credit report for any activity at this point.
And waiting to see who produces a code first.

They have unlock your phone if you paid full retail price without the contract. It's your phone fully paid off! Try this...

Currently, no one has reported to unlock this beast successfully.
Just waiting...
Htccode seems working now...no response for offical part
I got mines unlocked from htccode its offical!!
I just called 5 minutes ago to TMO customer service, no problems at all, they didn't ask anything besides what device I had. Said they'd email the code in 24 hours, but to allow up to 7 days before calling back. (I bought the phone full price btw, but they didn't ask for a receipt or anything)

Steak unlock (US version)

So I was chatting with a dell support man and he said the Streak will be locked and AT&T won't be giving out unlock codes for the time being. I was wondering what are my options for trying to unlock it? Will rebel sims or anything similar work?
Anyone have thoughts/suggests on the US version if locked? Sort of seeming like even off contract they will still be locked to ATT. Wanted to use in Canada on Rogers/TELUS.
Whenever i need a phone unlocked i just call ATT. I've done this many times for a long time. I just call them up, say i'm going overseas for business, they'll pitch me the international data plan and i tell them i don't need that cuz i'm gonna use a local sim, give them the IMEI # and they tell me the unlock code. simple as that. I've done this for nokias, samsungs, motorolas and HTC devices.
Your account has to be in good standing though.
I was talking to a guy using their chat service and he said the Streak is going to be sold locked to AT&T and he said that AT&T isn't going to be giving out unlock codes like the samsung Captivate.
This is why I was asking about the sim addons because if AT&T doesn't give out the unlock code I doubt any of the online sites would have any to sell me.
Also koolin and myself live in Canada so we woudln't even have an account to be in good standing.

I don't think Dell will sell the locked version if you are willing to pay $549 US. The device itself is already network (3G) restricted to AT&T so if people really want the device they will have to sign up with AT&T @$299 US.
Who would then want to pay $549 US for a locked version?
Confirmed locked via LionelatDell twitter.

Lots of folks are asking about the $549 version of #dellstreak. To be clear, it will not be unlocked. It is SIM-locked to AT&T.

Thanks for the updated info. I'm with you on this.
This is a sucidal business / marketing strategy going head to head against iPhone4 ... Streak soon become strike ... and then out.
Although I do indeed have ATT, I will not be purchasing another Streak untill Dell launches the unlocked Streak to the US. The last thing I want is ATT to have my device information such as IMEI number...
.
Well I just contacted two unlocking companies here in Canada. MobileInCanada said "Sorry no", and SNTraders said "most likely yes" ...need device to confirm.
So who wants to risk it
edit - to add SNTraders said they would be importing and selling as well but no date/price yet.

Unlocking is definitely already possible but who can do it? I'm using a Dell Streak right now in Toronto with Rogers. Am I missing something here? Were all Beta Streaks unlocked to begin with?
Yes the Beta Streaks were unlocked but the new ones coming out are going to be locked ot AT&T. But this thread isn't about if it is locked (it is for sure) but about what can we do to unlock the Streak once it hits the streets.

You realize that unlocked or not, if you're using a phone on the AT&T network, they automatically know your IMEI number.
I got the same next week for unlocked version
I also chatted yesterday with Dell
I got the same "next week" for the unlocked version of the US streak,
also they said that if you have a presale code it will be honored next week, so you get the $0.99 headset
Hope it's true

Yes I realize that. But does ATT know which IMEI numbers go to which device? If all of these locked versions have their IMEI numbers registered as a Streak to ATT, don't you think ATT will try to charge a 'smart-phone data-rate' specifically for the device?
I still have the basic phone unlimited data plan for ATT from several years ago. I would not want to mess that up with costs of mobile bandwidth these days.

I was all excited about this news and then I realized that the Dell Agent was too polite .. this is NOT a USA agent, right? this is NOT USA Dell, I suspect.
I noticed yesterday when giving several agents at Dell the 3rd degree about T-Mobile, they didn't say "The phone is locked to AT&T." They said "Dell only supports AT&T."
Maybe that was wishful thinking on my part ...

IF THE ABOVE IS CORRECT?
I was going to return my Streak unopened tomorrow, but if this above is correct, I think I will put my Tmobile sim in there JUST IN CASE and test it ... maybe they are all unlocked and Dell is CLUELESS .. What would be the point of having both locked and unlocked? When you order the sales person says "you want it LOCKED or UNLOCKED..." Makes no sense ..

I think you'll cost yourself a restocking fee (if they do that on opened product) as I'll bet anything it's locked, and the reps just don't know what they're saying.
Dell isn't a phone company, they don't really understand all the locked/unlocked on contract/off contract stuff.
Just my two cents...
called now DELL, a guy prob from India, told me that there will be no streak unlocked, huh, so prob we have to get the unlock code from at&t
I have a friend who has an AT&T Store. I spent 2 hours with him today while he called AT&T techs and customer service. They say they cannot provide the unlock code because the IMEI number is not in their computers. They said Dell needs to provide the unlock. So my friend got AT&T and Dell on a conference call. Dell said they cannot unlock the phone. They do not have a way of getting unlock codes . CALL AT&T .. AT&T says "I am AT&T .. the IMEI is not in my system."
My friend was saying to AT&T that "there is a customer in my store who wants to travel with her phone and needs it unlocked for travel in other countries." AT&T would FOR SURE have given an unlock code if the IMEI was in their computer.
So what's next? I put mine on eBay and if it doesn't sell I will return it Monday.

Got my unlock code from AT&T!!!

I just thought I would let everyone know that after fighting with both Dell and AT&T after my new US Streak was delivered, out of the blue I was sent my unlock code via email today.
I am a current AT&T subscriber, and I purchased my Streak off-contract and paid the full price for it, so that may or may not have anything to do with it, and your mileage may of course vary, but here is my saga:
This started almost 2 weeks ago. I first called Dell, they told me AT&T had to issue it. I then called AT&T. First line support told me there was a "10 month marketing exclusive" and I was basically out of luck. I pressed on and asked for her supervisor. This guy was really rude, wanted to argue with me, etc. So, I pressed on and asked for his supervisor. I think they call it a "floor supervisor"?
So in speaking with "3rd level" at AT&T, this guy was actually very nice, listened to me, fully understood my request, and was willing to create a case. I think that was the key. When he created the case, he was very clear in telling me this was not a guarantee they would issue me a code. He took all the info, including the IMEI number, and added in the case that I would have to provide proof of purchase showing that I paid full price and was not under a contract. I agreed. He told me that the resolution date would be 8/30.
8/30 came and went, and I called AT&T back on 9/2. The person I spoke with agreed that it was past the date and said the initial response that came back was that they were waiting on a code from the manufacturer (if you can believe that!). So I asked what the next step was and I was told that they would update the case that I called back and would re-escalate the request.
I had just made a note to call back in about a week, but very much to my surprise an email this afternoon arrived from "LBK Tech Escalations" with my IMEI # and a corresponding unlock code!
I am no longer a current T-Mobile subscriber, but I do keep an old SIM for instances such as this. I inserted the code, and just as expected, it unlocked!
I hope this is helpful to everyone. If you are a current AT&T subscriber, keep the pressure on them! I think the key is not taking no for an answer and insisting that a case get created.
Are you sure?
I've been with att for more than 3 years and tried to get the code for almost 2 weeks and talked with supervises and told them about even your case and they said we don't have the codes from Dell yet.
and they cant make any claims or emails..
Trying Too...
Thanks to the OP for this... I'm trying to do the same thing. I have 5 lines (3 in-contract) and; for now, I am working with a local store manager who is going to bat for me. If he gets stonewalled I will break out this thread.
Am I sure?
I will provide anything I can to prove this is legit if someone doesn't believe me.
I wish my T-Mobile SIM was still active, and I would show it. I should have shot a video of the process of entering the code while I was doing it, but I was so excited that I had the code I didn't take the time.
The email came from: [email protected]
And I would gladly post a screenshot of the email but it has personal info like my account number and such. The unlock code I was provided was 8 digits long.
Good luck to anyone else who needs it.
-Rob
eh? t-mobile USA isnt supported on US streaks.....??
Well I guess it depends on what you mean by supported. Is it 3G on T-Mobile here in the States? No. But if you travel internationally like I do, having a truly unlocked streak without the requirement to deal with that RebelSim nonsense is crucial for me.
Can you blur out the personal stuff and send an image of the e-mail? Thanks.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
thats good to hear.
I travel overseas frequently and always get my devices unlocked from ATT (miss the old nokia days where you could just download a program to unlock your device).
Before i got my Streak i had to do a warranty exchange for my Tilt2 and first day i got it and asked for the unlock code. Usually they just ask for the IMEI number and give me the code on the spot (been doing this for many devices for the past 5 years with ATT). well for my warranty exchanged tilt2 there was a problem and it wasn't getting the unlock code. So the rep said she had to open a case and took my email. Just the other day i got an email from the same address LBK Tech Escalations <[email protected]> with the unlock code. took about 2 weeks and i already sold the device but i forwarded the email to the guy i sold it to.
So i guess when people call in they should request to open a case and maybe then they'll get the unlock code?
Also i'd recommend people not to state that they are going to another carrier, just state that you travel overseas for business and they'll offer you an international package and just tell them your used to using local sim cards (as many countries sell prepaid cards at the supermarket) and that your staying with ATT.
just called in to request my unlock code from at&t. They send they were gonna open a case and rewuest it for me since they dont have it in their system yet. they told me the 20th to be the latest I would get the code but code be sooner. crossing my fingers. I told them I would be travelling internationally and since they wouldn't unlock my iphone I need another phone to use abroad. Will update once I get my code and with a video hopefully....
Just an update, I received an email from the Sim unlock team last friday and requested a proof of purchase (invoice/receipt). faxed it to them last monday and got a text from at&t that they received the invoice. Hopefully I get the unlock code anything now.......
9/28:
Got an email from at&t unlock team:
Device unlock code for mobile 847 ***-**** CM20100914_127*****
AT&T Valued Customer:
We recently received your request for the unlock code on the following device:

Due to the age or the brand of your device, the unlock code is no longer available in the AT&T database. Device unlock codes are programmed into the device at the time of manufacture. If the unlock code is not in our database, AT&T must contact the manufacturer of the device to obtain the unlock code.
Accordingly, we have attempted to contact the original manufacturer of your device to obtain the unlock code on your behalf. Unfortunately, our efforts in obtaining the unlock code from the manufacturer were not successful. We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused.
For information about upgrading to a new AT&T device please go to att.com/wireless or call Customer Care at 1-800-331-0500 or 001-916-843-4685 if outside of the U.S.
Thank you for contacting AT&T Mobility. We appreciate your business.
BOTTOM LINE: Called Dell for an RMA and returned my streak. I have no use of it if they wont unlock it.

If you are an AT&T customer with an account in good standing for at least 3 months, it's pretty easy to get the unlock code for any device, except the iPhone. Just call 611 and ask for it. I called last week and got the unlock code for my Tilt 2 before selling it, and got the unlock code for my Streak at the same time. If they ask why, just say you're traveling overseas and want to use a local SIM card.
