Windows SideShow BT connection problem - HD2 General

Hi all,
Using Windows7 x86 Ultimate and I am trying to connect HD2 (factory ROM) to a PC.
I´ve already solved de missing BT driver (used Microsoft Corporation Mobile Device Driver).
But Windows Sideshow does not connect.
I got Sync and file transfer working. It seems “well paired”
Even previously I had it working with Qtek S200 and Vista.
But now it all sucks big time.
Any clues?
Thanks in advance.

You need to enable SideShow using the local group policy editor, gpedit.msc

Thanks for the tip.
I followed this how-to
1.Type gpedit.msc in the Start menu’s search box and then press Enter.
2.Navigate to User Configuration, Administrative Templates, Windows Components, and then select Windows SideShow in the left column of the Group Policy editor.
3.Double-click Turn off Windows SideShow in the Settings section of the Group Policy editor.
4.Select Enable and then click OK to save the changes.
Click to collapse
But it was already ok
Even, the icon is not present at the control panel of W7. I had to search and then copy a shortcut.
I believe there is something wrong with the drivers used by W7.
Any other clues?

Is it a Windows Sideshow problem?
Did W7 stop supporting Sideshow?

I gather from the developer preview page on the Microsoft site that this will only work on Windows 7 if initially paired with a machine running Windows Vista!
Also, the Sideshow control panel applet is only visible if a sieshow gadget has been installed. However one can open the applet by searching for "Sideshow" in the Help and Supprt, and navigating one of the resulting links.

Thanks!
Nevertheless, pairing 1st with a Vista machine is not an option.
I had found the WSS applet in Windows7, but the problem remains.
Too bad, it was such a great way to control a HTPC with windows7...

Vista - Remote Display??

Hello,
Just upgraded my laptop to Windows Vista. I used to run a program called ActiveSyncRemoteDisplay from Microsoft under XP. This no longer runs under Vista and I haven't found a replacement.
Does anyone currently use a Remote Display (Free preferably) under Vista?
Thanks a million

Steven,
Thanks for the reply. I had already come accross that link and tried it. Unfortunately, the Remote Display software does not install under Vista. I'm getting "ERROR_MISSING_CEAPPMGR entry not found in string table"
I'll keep hunting!
Thanks again.

Just copy this to your device and install it from there - this is the same MS CERdisplay program but without the need to install it on your device via ActiveSync
Smiffy.

I installed the CAB file on my device and launch CERHost.EXE on my laptop. My phone (Cingular 8525) is tethered to my laptop and connected. Once I open CERDisp.EXE from my device, I enter PPP_PEER as the address to connect to. The Caption on the CERHost.EXE changes to WM_VPALHORIES which is my phone name however the image from the device is not shown on the computer. I get no errors at all during this process.
Any advice on what I should do next?
Thanks

No, it simply allows you to see your mobile device screen from your computer screen (and control your device from your computer). I use this for training.
Try this one...
I don't know if this works under Vi$ta - it does a great job on XP. It's called MyMobiler: www.mtux.com

Gave it a shot and I'm getting the same results as the previous ones I tried. Device connects, however nothing is being displayed on the PC.
The hunt continues ... thanks for your help.

Thanks for that link, chandalf. That's a very nice little program.
To answer the original question, Pocket Controller is a commercial product that does what you need and the most recent version claims to work with Vista.
They do have a free trial so that you can test it to see. And, if it turns out that it doesn't work for you, you will be able to use them for tech support.

I updated my HTC USB Sync drivers which in turn updated the Windows Mobile Device Center. MyMobiler now works as does the one Smiffy sent.
Thanks to all who helped me with this. I appreciate your time.

file transferring?

anybody know of an easier way (software) to send files to a windows mobile phone instead of activesync... i've tried setting up a local ftp server through my computer and router to send files but i can't get the shadow to connect, was wondering if there was a 1 click program that utilizes the device drivers to just straight out interexchange files...
i know i can do memory card, etc, blah blah blah, but i'm wanting a software solution
Have u tried this. Your PC will see phone as another hard drive
if it works with 6.1, perfect, i'll try downloading directly to the phone and letting you know, thanks for the quick response
works like a champ, thanks korman
An easier way is to use Windows explorer, either in XP or Vista. You'll need to change your folder options in the "computer" in the view tab to show hidden files and folders.
Once you've done this, you'll see the shadow as another drive/device on your windows machine.

Install Windows XP on HTC Shift - your update please

Hi everybody, I'm new to this HTC Shift forum. I've bought a short while ago one HTC Shift s/h, it works all right, but I am very unsatisfied with Vista, even after the F3 recovery it is so slooooowwww!
Therefore I would like to speed it up by installing Windows XP (for which I have the necessary license).
I did my good reading on this forum, but almost all the threads are 1 or 2 years old, some of the links are already dead, so I did not come to a firm conclusion on whether Win XP works completely OK on the HTC Shift. I've been reading about problems reported in connection with certain drivers, touch screen, wireless, Shift Control Center, SD and SDHC cards, switching resolution, WMP, etc which I don't know if have been sorted out or not.
So it would be great if somebody could confirm me if installing Win XP leads firmly to a positive result. Pointing to some updated links for the appropriate downloads would be the other great thing that I would appreciate.
Looking forward to your soonest answers!
Thank you so much!
I have installed Xp only on my Shift long time ago, everything is working faster and better.
Keep in mind you will not have Shift Control Center anymore but a directory with shortcuts to switch BT,WiFi,Reset Snapvue,Etc.
Also Gsensor is great with Screen Rotation.
Follow this link to install WinXp - contact me if you encounter some problems.

As Wireless Connection Managers for wifi and BT I know 3 tools that are doing the job in XP for specific brand notebooks: HP Wireless Assistant, Dell QuickSet and Asus Console Utility. I wonder if any would work on the XP Shift. I will let you know once XP installed and running, probably next week or so. About managing the 3G modem, I guess this will stay on "manual". I have no idea about how to bring up the Snap View hard-reset button.
On the other hand there were some links on this forum, all broken now, for DL an XP adapted Shift Control Center. Did that piece of sofware really exist and work fine or was it just a bluff?
Hi again everybody!
Just one question before I stat the xp install: performing the HDD Format operation during xp install would distroy the Vista recovery partition or not?
A quick answer would be appreciated and would help me a lot!
Thank you!
From what I remember Hdd format would not destroy Recovery partition as it is hidden and read only. You would need to unhide and make readable to change it.
Than about Shift Control Center for XP you will have the ability to:
Wifi Control
BT Control
SnapVue Reset
Snapvue EnterBootloader
Sound control
This is my improved version.
I was planning to make a Control Center GUI with C++ but always delayed who knows maybe one day I will find some free time will surely post.

About the Shift Control Center for XP, when you wrote "This is my improved version" did you mean that you actually have it and you can load it somewhere for public use or that you just listed the features of what you planned to be?
Anyway, if you still have the "traditional version" of the Shift Control Center for XP mentioned several times on this forum, I would much appreciate if you could attach it to your next post or sent it to me via PM.
Thank you and have a nice week-end!

Yeah, thanks for your suggestion, I know the future is a tabbed interface and i'm working on it. Next release will have that feature!
What do you mean with "contact sync"? I already get contact informations from the phone to display names in the message window. And for the contact edit yeah, il would be awesome, but needs extra time that now I don't have. But next month I'll work on.
Bye!
New release!
With tab support, let me know if you like it!

Well, i've testet an old build on WindowsXP and it worked. But I've not a machine running XP, so I've only VM's to test.
So, tonight i'll test and i'll see if there is any issue with that OS.
BTW, please, upgrade to a new and more secure OS

Do numbers in my contacts need to be formatted any special way? Sometimes the name will show in the conversations view as well as their phone number. It shows the conversations in two different places, one is not associated with the contact's name, so you see their number instead.

[Q] Windows Media Centre

Hi all
I have upgraded to Windows 8 Pro using download media. I then took advantage of this offer:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/feature-packs
I received my key by email and followed the instructions to run the "Add features to Windows 8" wizard and enter the key.
The wizard accepted the key and I was prompted to restart my PC to install Windows Media Centre.
After my PC restarted I could not find Windows Media Centre anywhere. As far as I can see it has not been installed.
The "Add features to Windows 8" wizard has now disappeared so I don't know how to resolve this issue and get Windows Media Centre working.
Has anybody else encountered this problem? If so, how did you resolve it?
God bless

if you changed user accounts after installing it, it will vanish off the tiles, right click in metro on anything other than a tile ( blank desktop space) that brings up the lower task bar, click on "all apps", right click on WMC and click on pin to start and pin to task

Hi all
I worked my problem out. Prior to adding WMC to Windows 8 Windows Media Player was disabled through the "Turn Windows features on or off" applet. As WMC depends on WMP, if WMP is disabled, WMC will start off disabled as well.
Once I went into the "Turn Windows features on or off" applet and selected WMC, it asked me to select WMP also, and now it works.
Thanks and God bless
