This problem just started yesterday. Google Voice is not syncing unless I manually refresh it. This leads to a lot of missed texts.
All data sync options are on, battery is set to performance mode, auto sync is enabled, sync only over wi-fi is off. I don't know what to do.
Can anyone help?
Also Gmail sync is not working.

I had this problem temporarily about a week ago. I had the sync button in extended controls and turned off syncing. I deleted.the widget and stated over and didn't have gmail out google voice because the sync was off in the settings. Not sure in your case though

I've got auto sync enabled in Power Control as well as SwitchPro. Also in Quick Settings and Settings. No dice.

Really sorry to hear this, as I use Google Voice for my texts. I wish I could give you some advice, but I can't. Reinstalling, wiping the cache, or a factory reset are the only things that come to mind.
Okay, I uninstalled and reinstalled and now it syncs but doesn't notify me until I open the app.

I had the same issue. You can set google to text you when you have a new voicemail. It'll send the message via the google voice app and show up in your notifications.
I can conclusively state that the "Email" application on our G2 is responsible for consuming an inordinate amount of battery, because it does not properly sleep. When I had my phone configured to use Exchange/Activesync via the built-in sync and Email application, it would consistently be at the top of the "partial wake" list. Generally, the partial wake breakdown is a good starting point to determine which apps may be misbehaving. The following bug appears to be what we are seeing here:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=9307
To validate the battery drain, I completely deleted the account associated with Exchange and installed Touchdown (3rd party Exchange sync app). The difference is substantial. I was previously at 50% battery after just a few hours, where I can now make it easily through the entire day without charging.
Short story: If you're using the built in Email app (not Gmail, that is fine), try removing the account associated with it for a day and observe the change in battery life.

I've also noticed this, if you search this forum for activesync you'll find where I diagnosed it along with the facebook app as being two things that drain your battery.
My fix was to instead just forward my email to a gmail and use gmail's push functionality. Works great, and gmail lets you change your "send from" address so it's completely transparent to anyone you send mail to.
Just thought I'd let you know you're not the only one.
The "email" (NOTE: NOT GMAIL) app does seem to drain battery, at least when used with Exchange ActiveSync.
Did u guys change the check interval time? Iirc when u make an account it defaults to checking every 15 minutes. Sure way to kill the battery. Just a thought

Unfortunately the interval makes no difference. The app basically does not sleep, even if I set it to never poll. In fact, I set it to not poll at all for an entire day and rebooted before writing this post.
There must be something else at play on your setup. I have zero problems with partial wake using the email app with my company's exchange server.
I have Exchange sync set on push, gmail set on push, and 2 other accounts set to 1 hour polling, and I get a full day's use out of the battery. Off the charger at 6 AM, back on around 11 PM (usually with about 25% battery remaining).

Same. But 9am to 2am
My battery will drain significantly faster just by having gmail sync activated...so for me, that's just as much of a kill. I don't really need that feature for the time being so I've turned it off which doubles my usage time
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Again syncing email with the company exchange server, syncing tweetdroid every 9 minutes after 8 hour so f very light use still at 86%
Perhaps volume of email is a factor. I get 200+ emails per day and I can imagine that having an affect on perceived battery drain

I'm sure that many Android users just like me have been experiencing the following problem
Battery Drained by Exchange services ... oh and heating up of the device while it's sleep
I found out that the problem isn't with any of android devices or softwares
It's with Yahoo! Server ... It's been failing for weeks and has been causing this issue for weeks ... here's my review to them on Google play Y Mail App, Facebook page ... and others
((( Dysfunctional Server and Service!
"IMPORTANT: There is currently a known issue with notifications failing. We are currently fixing the problem which is related to the server and not the application."
Here's Another IMPORTANT issue ... Your yahoo has been failing to sign in using native email android app for many weeks... locking out exchange services, using up the battery and heating up the device ... the problem is there with many many many devices .... people don't know it's your server yet ... they think it's their android that is failing ... not your stupid app and server! what's the use of an app that doesn't notify you or a server that isn't functioning properly and is failing to sign in ha?
Not to mention it's failing to sign in on PC as well ... useless service!
I'm moving to Gmail ... moved most of my stuff there already!)))
In general the official Yahoo! Mail app drains battery like hell.
Use the default samsung provided email utility and combine all ur mail accounts on it. Its one of the best email client. No such battery drains are observed using that app. And one more thing increase the update time. If its on every minute it definitely wont let ur phone go to sleep.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
Well, that's why I tried their app in the first place ... because using android email utility kept on failing to sign in and running in the background trying to sign in draining the battery in 2 hours and heating up the device ... when I deleted my yahoo account from my phone ... and used the android email utility ... I used two MS, Gmail accounts ... and not a single problem ... I re-entered yahoo ... and battery issues came back
I contacted yahoo ... they said they have been having problems with their server for a while and they are trying to fix it
anyhow, it sometimes causes the exchange services to get into a vicious circle and drains the battery in few hours ... I found several people having this issue around the web

What I love from exchange is that some people believe setting it check every period time will save battery. Push does save battery life, generally.
Why? I don't see the logic behind this. At least on wifi. Does the device go to deep sleep at all when push is used?

Yes ofcourse it will, I get 1-2% batterydrain per hour with 4 email accounts set to push and wifi always on, if I am connected to wifi or not.
Hmm thats amazingly strange , i will set it too then.

basicslly with push you dont have a periodic wakeup of the phone to check mail +/-10minutes to fall asleeo again everytime it checks
Weird. Push means always connected, thus no deep sleep would be logical. Ok, I'm changing now and reseting cpu spy logs, will check tomorrow after some hours without charger.

lol I came from blackberry so I know a lot about their push. And not only is it more realtime, its also more battery friendly(or should be) cause your phone isnt constantly or periodically polling the server for mail.
Hi, I moved from a Galaxy Nexus 2 weeks ago.
I'm running the lastest CM 10.1 Nightly and Franco Kernel.
Like I week ago I noticed a very high wakelock caused by "Exchange Service". I'm using my Hotmail account configured as Exchange with the stock email android App.
I didn't have that wakelock before with my SGN or the first week using my N4.
I don't know what to do, I have tried deleting the account and setting the update interval to 1 hour.
Any ideas?
This is making me crazy

Check this out:
It goes to deep sleep, but there are some wakelocks made by:
Calendar, Exchange and Gtalk (Which is strange as I have it frozen using TIBU).

This is what happens when people have too much information at their finger tips.
I see 3mins and 6 mins of wakelocks there in 10hrs? How is that "killing" your battery?

I understand your point..
Sorry but I still think there is something wrong.
494 wakelock ? With push email off? It was supposed to check the email each 2 hours. No contact and calendar sync.. OK all the wakelocks were "only" 12 minutes... I had it configured in the same way with my gnex and never had this problem.
Thanks.

I understand your point.. But I was sure that before (using my gnexus and the first week using my n4) I had the same configuration and I wasn't getting these wake locks. Remember push it's not active ! And gmail (sync is on) and whatsapp are running all the time and they don't generate almost any wakelocks...

Sorry guys but I think there must be something wrong here.
It's only syncing one account and the refresh rate is set to 1h!!! I get barely 10 emails daily and don't reply them.
It looks like there is a mistake in the configuration of exchange and it ends in a loop.
Plus I don't even use the calendar, I have like 10 entries in all the year!! It doesn't make sense.
I use whatsapp 10 times more than email and calendar combined and I don't see it generating so mane wake locks.

I don't use Calendar and see what is happening.

Even when it's not syncing!

Same problem here. I have my work Outlook exchange server setup. I have sync set to NEVER so I have to open the app manually to get new emails....I still have 30+ minutes of exchange services wakelocks.
What is going on? This never used to be an issue

I noticed the same with my email app setup for my hotmail account, installed the outlook app and it was just as bad. Even with sync off there was a very high number of wakelocks. I now forward mt hotmail to gmail instead.

I was thinking of doing that. Forwarding all my emails to my gmail account. This is a serious problem. As you say we get wakelocks (a lot of them) even with hot mail sync off!! Wtf
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I was able of removing the wakelock doing the following:
Using titanium backup made "exchange services" a user app.
Added to greenify
BUT the only problem is that now I have to open the email app to get my emails.. Trying to avoid this with tasker but tasker doesn't work with processes like exchange service.
Battery life has improved!!

It's not just you
It's not just you. Something is definitely wrong.
I have had this problem since ICS 4.0 on my Nexus S.
I've tried stock and am now running CM 10.1. This morning my stock battery stats show 3h 17m on battery and Exchange Services with 1h 5m of "Keep awake". Battery is down to 58%. That makes the battery life about 6 hours. Yesterday, I got 14.
This problem goes away every time I flash a ROM update, but will always recur after a few weeks. If I disable sync, everything is fine. It doesn't seem to matter whether the Exchange Sync setting are set to Email, Calender, or Contacts. It also doesn't seem to matter how often sync is set for: push, 30 min, 1 hour, or 3 hours -- the problem still persists unless sync is off in the OS.
I would love suggestions on what to do.
So the number 1 battery hog by far on my g2 is google contacts sync. Its basically never letting my g2 sleep. FWIW I checked in accounts and there's an error showing that sync is experiencing problems and hasn't updated since I bought it.Any idea on what's going on?
yeah a bad luck situation. delete account and resetup sync for one account, let it sync and then add another if you have multiple.
If that doesnt work you might need to go into settings, apps and then wipe contacts and then contacts sync and then resetup again the sync.
Thats whats worked on old phones I had
My contacts haven't been syncing since the 28th either, don't know what gives
Just had the same issue. I was getting massive idle battery drain; ~ 13% just sitting overnight whereas my GNex drained ~2-3% overnight. Went to app manager and cleared data on contacts and contacts storage. Then re-synced and it seems to be working again. Not sure what happened?

I am on stock. I downloaded an app called "contacts sync fix" that will go through and fix errors in your contacts so they will sync again. May not be a permanent solution, however the contacts sync is no longer leading my wakelocks.
