Droid x stuck with screen off - Droid X General

So my brand new Droid X's screen was stuck off. No matter what button I pressed or combination of buttons I couldn't turn the screen on. The battery was at nearly full charge.
Not to mention the camera shudder got stuck on the 1st day of use... so I do have a replacement coming (that I had to pay for!)
So does anyone here know anything that could help me get my phone back until the replacement arrives? Maybe instructions on how to get into recovery mode?
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: I believe it may be the battery. I wont know for sure until I can get the phone to a charger. Sad though. Theres NO exception for a battery that lasts 20 MINUTES. I actually hope its not the battery...

Have you tried pulling the battery?

Yes, and when I put the battery back and try to turn on I noticed one of the lights at the top left of the phone will weakly flash and get weaker after every use of the power button. The phone is still not turning on.

Why did you pay a dime????
I guess I must have missed something, but it doesn't sound to be your fault. I sure wouldn't have paid for a replacement due to a lemon sale......

Sorry if I made the wrong impression lol but I called Verizon and they said no stores will have replacements for a while and I need a phone. So they directed me to Motorola and I paid a fee for a new one being shipped.

I'm sorry if this sounds elementary but did you try to hold the power button to turn it on? I notice when the phone is off and I tap the power button, there's a weak light on the on left of the ear piece. Holding the button turns my phone on.

Yeah, my phone does the same crap when it drains to 0. After plugging it in I have to hold it, and even then sometimes I need to let it charge for 3 or 4 minutes before it'll turn on. Otherwise I just get that charge indicator screen that appears and disappears. Very annoying.

evo wont turn on unless i take out battery

anybody else run into this? i know if i installed a programmed that messed up the startup but if i have to power down the phone and turn it on, the only way i can complete this is by taking the batter out and putting it back in and then the phone powers on.
I just started to have the same trouble. I am going to be doing a wipe and starting over this weekend ... hopefully that will clear up the trouble.
Let me know how that works for you. Mine is doing the same thing.
Having the same problem here, can't figure out why.

i have problems getting mine to turn on as well. i find i have to press and hold the power button for 5 or more seconds to get it to turn on. this may be intentional...
Mine seems to have the same issue, I have to take my battery out also.
Not a big deal since I dont reset often, and its not Windows mobile.

The only time I've had this happen was when the device was connected to the charger, either too the pc or plug. Removing the cord and letting the notification light go off allowed me to boot again normally.

Yep. Sounds like you messed with settings that you don't know what you're changing. Start with a clean slate and don't edit what you don't know.
guys when you hit power off the Orange led lights... the phone is not fully shut down until that light turns off (30sec to a min). after that the phone can turn back on without a battery pull.

I can assure you I didn't change any settings I didn't know I was changing. And BTW there's no setting that's "Don't let phone turn on without taking the battery out first" and no other settings anywhere, not in EPST, not in Testing, nowhere that would create this problem.
I have found that once you turn it off if you wait 45 seconds all the way up to 2:00 minutes the phone will turn back on without a battery pull.
Ohwut, go to Settings...About Phone...Battery and Boot...and uncheck the box for "Don't let phone turn on without taking the battery out first". You were probably screwing around in here and checked this one by mistake.

i needed a laugh this morning.
I was having this same problem. I decided to take it into sprint to see what they had to say. I haven't rooted or done anything with my MSL. After about 15 minutes the techs told me that it was a bad battery. They put a black hero battery in the phone and I have not had a single problem since. they did not wipe my phone back to factory, just replaced the battery.
Maybe you would have luck with the same thing... My suggestion is if you upgraded from a hero like I did, try your hero battery. if you don't have any problems after that, put the evo battery back in and take it to the sprint store and get yourself a replacement battery for it... I can't guarantee that that they won't wipe your phone so backup first. Always backup before taking your phone in to be serviced.

Mine has the same problem. I bought mine from radio shack so trying to get them to do anything is like pulling teeth. And they don't reserve Evos in case something goes wrong like a sprint store does.

I had this issue for awhile but it seemed to go away on its own. I have a feeling it might have been a buggy app that either got uninstalled or fixed in an update.
But it was a very annoying problem!!

what rom or version are you using? when I was on the 1st OTA update rom I had that problem. But when I OTA to 1.47 it went away. now I am on froyo and of course it's good.

Possible bricked phone?

Installed CM7 on the EVO 4G three days ago and everything has been working fine. Until today when I went to turn my phone on, nothing happened. It vibrated like normal when its booting up, but nothing came up on the screen. Since then, nothing is happening at all. No charging light when plugged in, no sounds, no vibrations, nothing on the screen, not showing up on computer.
What do I try to get this thing to respond?
Did I cause this or is this a hardware problem that just happened to be about the same time I rooted this thing?

What method of rooting did you do? You try a battery pull and hold the power button down for 15 secs with the battery out and try to boot it.

A bricked phone will have a red triangle looking thing that won't go away lol. One that doesn't respond is usally spanked silly lol. Tho there may still be hope your's isn't try the pull method on batt.
I pulled the battery, held power button and volume down while plugged into wall, no response. Should I leave it unplugged and not try the volume button with it?

Try it without being plugged in and with battery out just hold power button down. Usally clears some big issues. If it doesn't work then it could be spanked. Bad unit.

Do you have an extra battery to try out, or temporarily borrow from a friend? Are you sure your battery was charged up, and it didn't die? It sounds odd that it just did that out of the blue. I'd be suspicious of.a dead battery. They can die to the point that they will not take a charge, and they're totally dead.

That's true lol SBC kernels can spank battery quicker. Id try new battery if it's not it then Id swap it out at sprint.
I do not have another battery to test with, I will have to go to a sprint store to do that. I dont have the unit with me to test tonight, but I will take these suggestions home with me. Thanks guys. Lets hope I didn't brick my girlfriends two week old EVO. She loved the Cyanogenmod that I put on there.

I got my Nexus 7 on Tuesday evening. After about 6 hours of playing with it
and checking things out I decided to go to bed, so I put it to sleep (not turn it off).
A few minutes later I decided that there was one more app I wanted to download,
so I went to wake it up and it wouldn't!
I tried everything -- short press, long press, try to reset, connect to computer (not recognized), etc.
I decided to let it charge overnight (no charging icon showed up).
The next day still dead, so I called google play and they will be sending me a new one.
On one hand it kinda sucks, but I feel good on how they handled it.
The tech said it was a dead battery, I am not so sure I believe that but ...
Mine was like that out of the box. It's already been repackaged back into its box and I'm waiting for google to send a replacement.
I hope you guys get your replacements soon.

OMG thank you so much, I just had a big scare. My Nexus 7 crashed so bad it turned itself off, and I have never had to turn it on yet (came turned on, and rebooted by itself after the 4.1.1 update), and using long press like I do on my Galaxy Nexus or Galaxy Tab 10.1 would not turn it back on. I tried plugging it in, no battery icon... I was really starting to think it was dead, then I saw your comment and just sat there counting...and eventually IT TURNED BACK ON. Phew, what a relief, thank you so much for posting this!

What kind of bothers me is that I was told that on my return, I have to put the new/replacement nexus 7 on my
credit card. If they deem that the warranty was voided, they will charge me for a 2nd device!
I would rather send them the broken device and if they decide the warranty is voided, send the broken
device back to me and I will try to fix it myself! I don't want to buy two of these devices!
And even if they don't charge me, I still have to check the device over. I have read where some people have
dead pixels, microphones that don't work, bad screens, and even dead devices like mine. I don't want to
have to do this a 3rd time
UGH

Mine was packed up ready to take back to PCWorld then I checked Google again and found this thread!
Many thanks chaps. You saved me some grief
google should send out some sort of network message for those that already have a nexus 7 , and any new ones that ship they should insert a notice..
either that, send out an update to fix this issue...
My so called "flawless" N7 did this today ( wouldn't turn on until I plugged it in, when it booted it still had 11%. Checked my mail and the whole think turned black grey and white and moved up and down quickly then shut off. Now it won't power on and makes a buzzing sound when plugged in. Think the display is dead

Nexus 6P won't turn on or charge

Hope anybody can help with this. My phone will no longer turn on or charge at all. Not even the indicator light is lighting up when on the charger. Ive tried resetting the phone, holding down the power button and using my computer to see if it recognizes it. Nothing has worked. Does anybody have any suggestions?
You say you've tried holding down the power button; have you tried holding down the power button AND the volume down button? I'd try that first, as the phone is plugged in. If that doesn't do anything, I'd try with a different cable.

There is an earlier thread with many ppl claiming that holding only the power button down for an extended time brought the phone back. They were talking 1-2 minutes and the phone popped back on. Were you not experiencing any issues before it happened out of the blue, or was there a weak battery or phone heat issue first?

Sorry to hear that man. Leave it on the stock charger a few hours/overnight and try again? RMA for battery/repair if eligible. If not, try to locate a decent replacement battery.

SOD is "Sleep Of Death"... Basically the kernel can't wake up from deep sleep, but if you held the power that long it should have forced a hard reboot.
Does it show anything at all in device manager when you connect it?

Nothing at all? Not even a Qualcomm QDLoader device? Hmm... Not good.
I would try different USB cable and charger combos... But at this point opening it and disconnect/reconnect battery might be best chance but honestly most phones in this condition never work again.

There's always the old freezer trick. Put it in a plastic bag then into the freezer for a couple of minutes and then plug it into a computer. I've had to do this before (unresponsive after a modem upgrade) but nothing over 5 minutes. This was way back in the Gingerbread days...

I had mine plugged in and suddenly it started flashing the white charging screen, then I tried to boot it up, and got about 0.75 seconds in when it shut off and started randomly flashing the charging screen every couple of minutes on and on... Has to have been a hardware failure, something has to have fried inside. But try what acejavelin posted a few days up, see if holding the power button 30 seconds works for it to power up. When I did that mine tried to power up, but then shut off, you will maybe have different luck though
