Newton's Rings on HTC MEGA !!! - Touch2 General

Hello guys , after using my htc since xmas , i was so so inlove with it but yesterday i experienced something really heartbreaking ... i got some strange stain on my screen 2cmX3.5cm .... it's rainbowcoloured and it's only seen at angle ... anyone else with this problem ?! the phone is working ok for now but i've read about this minutes ago and it's a screen problem which should be fixed and in the thread they mentioned if it is covered by warranty or not , so i'm calling the vendor tommorow to see what would happen and i'll keep u in touch ...
examples - down in my post ... it's the exact same thing on my Mega !!!!!!

hey...how is it? i had some too, but i think its something to do with the screen protector.

i dont have a screen protector , the digitezer or the upper plastic is damaged and it's causing this colours to appear ... the phone is still fully usable but i did HR and today i'm calling the vendor to see what could be done ... otherwise , e-bay , order , self-repair..

hmm...really? i just got my touch2 bout 2 months and its already there...oh no!! maybe i'll try removing the screen protector. do tell me if there are any updates on this matter..

It doesnt look like touch 2!!

i'm fcing tired of typing this ** READ THE HOLE POST ** I EXPLAINED THAT THIS IS JUST AN EXAMPLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I encountered same issue, but somehow a little bit agravated:
sometimes I got a little stain on screen(about 5mm in diameter), independent of the rainbow-coloured one, and the touchscreen is not responding anymore.
My (empiric) solution(it worked 2 times): rubbing the screen with a rough fabric with speedy gestures, rather than strong, in concentric circles and everything came back to normal in about 10 seconds(if needed to do this, pull out battery)...
But I suppose this is a temporary solution, it's difficult to me to think about for a final solution:
-adressing to the vendor implies a revert to the stock (orange RO)ROM, which I'm not sure I can handle(in fact I have no idea if possible!!!);
-replacing touchscreen on my own money I'm not sure it's worthing(?!).
Any idea is a possible way out of this situation...

Touch screen digitizer on E-bay costs $10 .... i think it would be great if it's easy to change it ourselves .... anyone with this kind of experience ?!

It seems like someone overstriked it.. :S

hey, if its really newton rings, the touchscreen will have problems registering my touches right>?? i think mine is the screen protector, because my touchscreen works just fine... what do you think???

My Touch screen works fine too , but it's there .... under the first layer of plastic.
i dont want to risk the LCD .... i would definetly change the digitizer - $9.50 instead of the LCD - $34.50

your touchscreen works fine for NOW...but it will stop working...
another (temporary) solution is to apply duct tape on the screen and gently remove it...repeat this few times..and your touchscreen will work again..

so did anyone go to htc for warranty?? how much does it cost to repair?

The whole newton rings' problem has been discussed a lot here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591292 and here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=475294.
And unfortunately it's something very common with HTC!!

LtBlue , имам същия проблем и в момента съм го изпратил на ремонт , очаквам до месец да го върнат ако не ще си го заменя с нов.
EN:
I have the same problem with my phone , before few days i send him for repairing , i will waiting one month if the phone is not fixed for that time i will want to replace the phone with new one

Аз чакам да се бъгне още малко , да му върна стария РОМ и да го пратя като пълен нуб в сервиза и да кажа че нещо не иска да ми зачита пръстите ... все едно си нямам и на идея за какво става на въпрос...
EN : I'm waiting for it to stop working , to put back the old ROM and make myself like idk what i'm holding , sending with " My phone stopped reading my fingers " like idk what's going on

Надявам се да го оправят
EN:I hope to fix it

Mine was turned down in the UK for warranty repair. 'Customer damage'. £75 quote for repair. I declined.
I have had this on a touch 3g, toshiba tg01 and now a touch 2 after 3 months hard use. HTC say it is caused by flexing of the touch surface away from the base of the digitiser causing it to lift. From the phone being sat on in my back pocket. Anyway, I got a digitiser off fleabay and fitted that ok but I have torn the ribbon to the volume buttons which I now need to find. Ho hum.

loose slide on my dual

hi everyone,
i have recently been given a htc touch dual, and noticed theres a lot of movement on the slide when close(left + right)
is there any way of tightening it up?
thanks for any help i recieve.
sam
I have the same problem, answers will be useful for me too!
mmmmm take it theres just the two of us that have had this problem, can anyone recommend a repair centre in the uk?
There are more people with this problem. I think it's just a matter of how loose the slider is. Mine is not loose but a friend's Touch Dual is quite loose.
mine has a little wobble when closed, but is sturdy when opened.
it doesnt really bother me, so havent asked how/where to get it fixed.
Hi , i'm from France and mine too.
There are a lot of movements on the slide when close(left + right).
It's very disturbing... Did someone send the phone to repair center ??

i second this. i have the same problem with the slide,
could it be warranty covered?
same here as well!!
Same in Spain, and it's getting worse with time.
I have tried to repair it by myself.... it was big mistake...
Welcome to the realm of HTC build quality. I went through 6 E650's (S710's) before I got one that was remotely tight. My Dual has slight play on the top right of the screen when it's closed, and due to probably getting a replacement which is the same, i've not bothered trying to get it replaced. When it's open it's fine.
I think, as with the E650, it's just down to where they've put the slides on the phone.
I repari my nike's slide. It's not difficult, nomy my nike have a perfect slide.

How did you do that?
HTC are a couple of Stuck up Jerks.
my screen went black cause of the looseness.
the flex cable was damaged since it was loose.
Expensive phones, once they break they dont want to help..
so now im looking for a flex cause the "warranty" doesnt cover me for some reason... jerks!
Hi there.
I'm from Germany and my Nike ist a little bit loose too.
If the slider is loose and its definitely a production problem, i would say that this a case for the warranty.
Also, i have done an "electronic insurance". It covers claims caused by yourself or other technical problems.
On the other hand, i would try to give it back to my htc-dealer or provider if the slider damges within the 2 years of warranty.

I think this problem got no fixing, because HTC use very simple slide-method in Touch Dual.
There is only 2 springs, little slide-board, and whole screen based on board only by 4 little screws. And this screws located to close...
Mine did this for a bit but I managed to take the slide apart and put it back together and it tightened up and now doesn't seem as loose. I suppose it's how loose/tight the fitting is.

Cracked Screen (pics included)

Guys Guys im sooooo upset.. I dropped my phone and cracked the LCD screen.
http://img232.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=screen1w.jpg
The phone thankfully still works and functions fine.. but i aint got a clue what to do... a quick search on here and on google revealed two components... the LCD screen and the digitizer.. Now im even more confused. Which one would i need? or shall i replace both? Is it possible to do it yourself or would you guys recommend a specialist? (details welcomed)
What can i do???
Many thanks

Hi. Ouch, it's not look bad :]
If lcd screen is not spilled(fuzzy, black dot's etc.) u need only front case
I see only broken window shield, digitizer work fine ?
btw. My HD droped from my bed(high frame) when i sleeping ;/ (Hah don't watching movies in bed maybe you save your HD )
I have only small stretch near 5mpix camera on the allu cam case.
I was walking on the stairs at the third floor when it dropped out of my pocket. It fellt all the way to the ground, at least 10 to 15 meters. My touch screen & lcd are both broken but I'm surprised it's not total loss.
Still .. sad.

Touch screen broke

Hi! I Love ( D ) my TD2... to bad my touch screen broke already (2 months after purchase) without dropping it or whatever.. Screen and phone works normal.
Im just curious if there are other people having this problem jet?
Do you guys think im f*ck'd? or does htc replace touchscreens within warranty?
if not; Does anybody know what the costs may be for replacing a touchscreen? And is it possible to replace only the touchscreen or must the whole screen be replaced?
A lot of questions , i know.. hope someone can give me answers.
Thank you!
new screen
see here, a similar discussion: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=537654
if the screen broke and it was not your fault, warranty should cover that ... it seems that buying a new screen and putting it is easy ...
thnx for reply georgeono! guess i'll try warranty first.
same here...touch screen cannot sense any form of touch
Hm.. to bad man. when i put my phone under a bright lamp or in the sun i can see some kind of liquid under the screen(so i know its definitely broke..), same at yours? did you contact warranty jet?
i guess the screen is just not that strong, cause i have treated this phone much much better then my old htc touch and that touchscreen is still working..
my batt went flat...
I go home and charge it..
before full charge, I sms and it is not working anymore..
Soft reset or hard reset no use..
Next day, I see the "liquid" screen under sunlight...
I also take care of it well as this is my first pda and most expensive hp i ever bought...
Going to sent in on this coming thursday...
How about ur warranty, void or consider under warranty??
havent found time jet to send it in but i'll send it tomorrow so i'll let you know. .
I have had the same problem. I sent it back last Friday and have had notification on Monday that it arrived at HTC, but the tracking details they gave me don't seem to do anything. They say it'll be 5 to 10 working days before I get it back.
The engineer on the phone pretty much straight away described the problem as 'LCD Leak' and that was also stated on the postage label they sent through to me.
I found a short term fix for the problem before i sent it off: When you see the touch screen has the patch of liquid inside, use a piece of sellotape or other sticky tape and gently pull the touchscreen outwards away from the phone and it becomes usable again as long as no fluid is touching the screen any longer.
Hope this makes sense.
edit: I got my phone back and the same problem was still occurring - it looked like they had simply take taken the screen off and put it back on again. It has gone back again, but hopefully this time they will actually look at it.
hm i tried your fix but it didnt work for me ..thnx for the tip anyway!
Same like here I think:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=522813
I had to sent it back for a repair. Right now my repaired phone starts to get the problem again

i had the same problem and i can tell you this is caused by too much pressure on the screen. it seems the screen does fall into the phonecase and therefore free itself from the glass. take care with that phone in the pocket!! also the manual says, take out the phone of the pocket when you sit down!! i was shocked when i read that... i mean.. wtf.. what is the idea of a mobile phone which you cant have in your pocket???
haha , and they used to call it a pocket pc! too bad i havent read the manual BEFORE i bought this fragile peace of sh..

Your just a very unlucky man...
I really love my TD2 and it's working as it should be.
I do not use a case and have it just "naked" in my pocket (without keys and other stuff in my pocket) and its no problem, no scratch...
And i don't call it fragile, ok... it can break easier than a rock in your pockey but still..... I don't know how your TD2 is but mine cant bend a 1/2 mm, it's pretty though.
Phone fixed.... For now
I have received my phone back after a second trip back to HTC and it appears that they have replaced the whole frontage of the phone as a tiny scuff on the metal bit and a miniscule scratch on the screen have gone. The internals of the phone are the same as it has the same serial number and IMEI number.
Its all working so far, I've had no evidence of the fluid in the screen as yet and hope not to again!
Send it back and it will be mended eventually!
Had a similar problem, after 20 days the display broke (not on the surface but under it) because of...who knows, maybe direct sunlight since it was on the seat of my car.
Now, after reading the post, I see it's not a singular problem but also other lucky customers are dealing with it.
The real problem is HTC service. I contacted HTC Italy and they told me to take the PDA to a collection point along with a letter describing what happened since I asked for the warranty cover. After 20 days they told me I have to pay 126€ to repair my D2 because the service decided that it was due to my manomission (aka : you have lied to us). After some enraged mails I sent to them, they replied me I should contact HTC in UK to have the warranty. I decided to pay to have my phone back quickly but until yesterday no answer.
Today I sent another email and HTC replied telling me that the service center is closed for holidays until 24th...
I let you imagine how disappointed I am with HTC and they call it HTC Service Excellence.
Ok, it was my fault...I knew I had to buy the spare part on my own and change the LCD but I trusted the HTC name...big big big mistake!
Just consider those experiences in case you think to send your phone back to HTC service...I will never do this again!
Thank you guys, now I know for sure it was not my fault.
I have my TD2 now 3 month and I recognize the problem others mention. Although this problem is a fault, the system is not broken.
When the phone blocks, look for the "liquid" below the screen. It can be very small to fingertip size. The screen is not broken but the touch screen sticks to the display screen. It occurs by applying some force while using the touch screen. Of course this should not happen but it locks the phone or results in unpredictable touch inputs. IT IS NOT BROKEN.
It can be easily solved. Just wipe, with some pressure, with your thumb over the touch screen starting from well below till above the affected area. The touch screen detaches from the display screen and everything works again.
The solution would be a mod by HTC to prevent the two screen from sticking together.
I hope this helps by preventing people to send their phone back and foreward unnescessary.
Just send in my TD2 today for the same reason. Hope they wont simply "lift the surface up" and send it back to me.
repaired!
i had to wait a long time, but i got a message today that the phone is repaired within the warranty by an external repair service. Hopefully the problem is solved now, but im very glad to hear its not gonna cost me 200 euro's or so!
for the dutch : ondanks alle slechte verhalen over dynafix (volgens mij de gebruikelijke repair service voor een htc telefoon in nederland) is het toestel gewoon gerepareerd zonder onzin over drukschade etc. !
update
got my phone back yesterday , in fact they replaced my old phone with a brand new one! Totally free of costs. So i'm a total htc fan again!

Are you sure it's new? I thought they replaced mine as well (after a LOT of phone calls and hassle), but the serial number is still the same.
The counters had been reset, so at first I thought it was a brand new one...

[Q] Touch screen not responding !

hey friends , my hd2 was working very well untill touch screen stopped responding to any touch .. i haven't dropped nor damaged it anyway , it just happened suddenly ..
i found someone said it may be digitizer ribbon related proplem so i did what he advised :
[ Press the top of the red button (when pushing on the top your pushing the ribbon).
Press the bottom of the red button thus releasing the stress on the ribbon.
Press the green button. ]
i got it working for sometime then after i press on the red key it stop working again ..
please can anyone help me to fix this proplem .. ?
I got the same problem
Hi guys,
I have the same problem with my LEO 512, each time I try to reboot the device (Long pressing the power button) the touch screen hangs, but the buttons working properly, and whenever I activate the device by pressing the power button, or rejecting a call with it also the screen hangs.
I think there is a short circuit between the power button and the screen.
Anyone has any idea what to do to fix this issue???
Thanks
good day, unfortunately is a defect hd2 the only thing to do is send it in for service or replace the touch, have just made my warranty is also changing the screen and putting touch screen no longer equal to the original but different. the screen much more crisp and bright and the touch with a stunning response

I agree with you, I already sent it to HTC service yesterday, and first thing came to his mind that they would replace the "screen" or the touch or "both" , but he will check the power button problem first.
By the way, I got link (unfortunately I will not be able to submit it as I'm still new to the forum) this would help you. It is in the "Touch screen won't work" under the "General HTC HD2 discussion" in "HTCHD2forum(.com)"...

hey john , to which HTC branch you sent ?!
did he tell you that he can replace the digitizer only ?!!
& what about the cost ?!
also what is the important info. i can find in this forum ?
This is a common problem with the 512 HD2's. I have found that although some temporary fixes do help, such as using only the green button to wake the screen, and holding certain parts of the screen while pressing others do work in a pinch, but only a digitizer replacement will fix it permanently. The replacement digitizers are much better, and do not have the bug. Replacing the LCD with the newer one results in a much nicer picture.
Both of these parts can be found on eBay, and there are teardown videos on youtube to tell you how to replace them, saving you a fairly large amount of money if you are no longer under warranty.

Hi Needo,
I went to El Mohandeseen branch (Jovi Tronix), they have already replied me that they will have to replace the whole LCD screen with the digitizer, costing about 1,400 EGP (232$) which was a total loss for me .
Of course I refused, but thanks to "Cappii" who posted after you, I found the LCD screen with the digitzer in "ebay" which would cost about 475 EGP (78.5$) using "Edfa3ly.com service"!!!
A big thanks to you "Cappii"
I'm thinking of going to "Abd El Azeez street" first and check how much would it cost (if applicable), it would be faster than waiting for 2 to 4 weeks till I get the LCD screen from the US.
Wish you best of luck.

Anytime. If you do the repair yourself, make sure that you pay .attention to the connectors on the bottom of the main board. There are a few that are a little tricky. Overall, it's not an easy phone to repair, but it's a lot easier than iPhone 4's or HTC Arias.

Thanks too much john , it's really great idea to use (edfa3ly.com) ..
also i've found someone can fix it for about 500 L.E (may be 400), they say he is expert with HTC & iPhone devices ..
if i repaired it myself , it will cost me about 300 L.E only , but with some risk as i heard that separating digitizer from touch screen can break it !
also i'll have to wait for about 2 or 3 weeks ..
i'm not sure about what i should do ..

Hey Needo, What's up?
I didn't go yet to "Abdel Azeez street" but I'm willing to.
I prefer to have someone fix it for me; as it will be with less risk. But there is an advantage regarding getting the stuff from the US that you know they are brand new, not used.
I'm not expert in the hardware stuff, but this is the feedback I got from HTC that the whole LCD should be changed; this is why I need someone else to check it.
Could you please tell me more about this one you found, who can handle the HTC and I Phone???
Thanks my friend and wish you fix your phone soon (so do I )

i sent it to this guy in " el srag mall " in shop called " Win Mac " he told me that he will change touch ( digitizer ) for 500 L.E in 2 days & he did it .. after i recieved it , it was working fairly good , but not like before .. then i tried to install WP7 , when it booted to welcome screen , found that i've no touch at all ..
returned back to WM 6.5 touch screen working , but not very properly .. tried to install NAND Android it gave me strange line of no.s & stuck at GO GO GO when i try to enter CWM ...
tried to boot into SD android Build , i got the same problem ..
so i decided to install WP7 again & sent it to him & told him about the problem , he told me to leave it & he'll fix it .. after 4 days i went to him & he told me that he tried to change digitizer for 2 times , but it's not working properly (in the best case , only the lower half of the screen got working) so he'll change LCD also ( the strange thing that he told me that i won't bey for that !!! & he will take my LCD instead ) ..
really i don't know if i should believe in what he say or not , but anyway i've nothing to do .. i'll wait to see what will he do !
what do you think ?!
Just wanted to chime in. I have heard various reports of having to change both the LCD and touch, although on my personal experience, the touch seems to fix it. Now, separating the LCD from the touch is a fairly simple process. Once the boards are removed, turn the unit over so that the touch and lcd are up. Heat the touch with a good hair dryer for about 3 minutes, and slowly lift with a plastic separator while its still very hot. Lift from the top, not the bottom.
There is a lot of tape on the bottomod the LCD. Heat LCD with the hair dryer, and slowly lift, keeping the frame flat on a table. If the frame warps, it will be next to impossible to reseat the touch and LCD. Make sure it stays flat.
Take your time and pay attention to all the wires. Take pics to reference where everything is. There is little to no tolerence for error on the rebuild.
I got it fixed

Thanks Cappii, I already have seen that and I assure you, it's a very complicated and delicate process which needs much accuracy.

Hey Needo, I'm sorry for hearing that about your phone, I wish that it would be recovered soon, and this guy would be as honest as he said. I feel that he sensed that it's his fault to break the LCD. Anyways I wish that it would be fixed by now.
About me, I went to "Abdel Azeez street", hoping to find someone who might know something about this device, and you know what, I found that many people there already working with experience in Iphone and HD2. And I found that they fix it while you are with them to make sure that they don't cheat you, or fix it with used spare parts. For me, I found that guy who changed the touch in front of me with a new sealed one, it was a process of about 3 interesting hours, which cost me 550 EGP (91$). Of course it wasn't in the best quality as there are some dust between the LCD and the touch screen, and there is some light coming out from the bottom of the phone between the frame and the touch, but I consider them as minor losses . It's working perfectly now at last.
If you ever wanted his contact, I would be glad to forward it to you anytime.
cheers.

[Q] Broken screen.. what to do?

Hi all,
this morning I left my tablet at home and when I come back found it with broken glass (I think tmy little brother dropped it, but he doesn't confess)..
Sometimes touch works, more often not.
However.. What can I do? I read that some lcd are not glued properly, and it could be my case, because on the left it's a bit lifted on the center.
In your experience, is there hope that it can be repaired for free?
And if not, where can I find replacement (I only found this: http://www.powerbookmedic.com/Google-Nexus-7-LCD-and-Digitizer-Assembly-p-22606.html , but it isn't available)?
Thank you!
sooooo sad! :/

At this moment you have Two Options..
1. Sell it on Ebay for Parts you probably get about 50 to 100 at most.
2. Pack it up and store it away in a closet and forget about it. Until the Screens are being sold as parts.
the reason for both options is due to Asus not selling the LCD/Glass at the moment as a Part.
they are still manufacturing the Nexus 7 and soon will be making the Nexus 7 with 3g capability.
so there biggest priority at the moment is to keep making them.
you can send it in for repair with Asus but it will cost you about $160.00 just to get it repaired.
not to mention how much it going to cost you to ship it to them.
is the device frame cracked or damaged broken is the back scuffed or cracked .. Does it look like its been dropped. IS THE Crack on the left side. CAN You post pictures. Answer the above and give some pics and more info..
i know you do not really know for sure .one more question was it moved can you tell for sure rather someone was using it or not ?
If you really feel it cracked laying where you left it . Without anyone touching it . CALL GOOGLE PLAY.. But please do not be dishonest . There is a issue with the screen lift cracking and becoming unresponsive . as well as backlight flashing issues..
Looking forword to seeing pics and more info
