Bizzare Issue... - Click General

Hey all!
I have a HTC Tattoo it originally had the stock rom then i re-flashed it with a new one to see if i could solve the following problem.
It was my understanding that if your just browsing the Web, you cannot receive calls/texts (both 3G/GPRS), however most phones give an illusion of this by pausing data momentarily to check for incoming calls.
However, my tattoo doesn't do this, my HTC Touch 3G (WinMo) did and i never missed a call. My tattoo seems to just send calls to voicemail all the time (even just background data usage causes this), seems better if i set it to GSM Only, but will still block calls.
Also ive experienced some issues making calls (particularly when set the phone to WCDMA only)
Is this just my phone or is this a common issue? Its always been the same with this phone, but ive recently missed some urgent calls and its spurred me on to get this resolved.
Thanks in Advanced, Dan

Something is wrong, that is not common behavior.

Missed calls while on GPRS

Hi folks:
I cannot be totally sure if this is the cause of this, but after loading the v1.2 ROM, I am missing calls while I am transferring data on GPRS. The weird thing is that while GPRS is on and I am not transferring data, I get calls in, but if I am browsing on sending/receiving email, I miss the calls.
Can this be related to the ROM update, or is it that I have a setting that needs to be adjusted ?
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Fernando
What did you have before the 1.2? We did not change much in the way GPRS connections are handled relative to 1.1.
Hello:
I had the current T-Mobile ROM before upgrading it to ver 1.2. I like this ROM a lot, but I noticed this little snag that makes me miss calls every so often.
Thanks in advance,
Fernando
This is exactly how it has ALWYAYS worked. The XDA uses a subset of the GSM spec which does not allow for simultaneous voice/data, and you cannot receive a call while ACTIVELY passing data. With the connection open but not actually sending data, the phone will ring. If you answer, there is a delay while GPRS is dropped and the call is picked up.
There is a spec for simultaneous voice/data, and also a spec for getting calls and suspending GPRS temporarily (leaving your internet connection just where you left it once you hang up the voice call). The XDA supports neither, and actually most carriers are not able to support simultaneous yet either (at least the US carriers cannot). They do support suspend, which works with phones like the T68.
Hola Carlos:
This makes sense, and it is actually the way it is happening for me. It seems I only noticed it now. I actually notice the delay in answering the incoming calls while GPRS is dropped.
Thanks for your wisdom and help.
Cheers,
Fernando

receiving calls while online (edge) with wing?

Hi,
I have a t-mob wing (after I drove over my magician and I have the following problem: When I am having an active data connection I cannot receive any voice calls. The calls are going directly to voice mail, without notifying me. Once I stop the data connection I can receive calls again and than I will see that I missed a call.
I talked to t-mob support, and after doing a hard-reset (of course) they told me that this is a known problem with the wing, that they are trying to fix it and that there is nothing they can do right now.
1. do other wing users in the US experience the same, so is it the default behavior, or am I just unlucky? (it worked great without a problem with my magician btw)
2. as sometimes during the day the internet connection automatically gets connected (activesync I guess) I never really now if I am able to receive calls right now. Is there a workaround to manually start up and stop the internet connection without the device automatically connecting whenever it feels like it?
thanks in advance

interesting ...
I have had a lot of complaints from people telling me that when they call me, it goes straight to voicemail.
I'm also a US Wing user, and I can confirm that is happening to me as well. Was checking sports scores on my break at work earlier, and my girlfriend called me, and I got a voice message from her...but it never showed that she called.
I also have the issue with people in my fave 5 not showing in the call history anyway, so I guess I lose both ways.
hm,
ok, seems to be a generic problem. Is here anyone who successfully gets voice calls while on a data connection with a wing/herald/p4350?
would be interesting to see if it is a t-mobile or device problem.
thanks
I got a HTC wing and i still get incoming call while browsing the internet. No problem here. i've tested a couple times and they all went through. I have T mobile

"active" data connection is the key
I have the same problem, no voice calls with an active data connection. For me, it seems to be only when the data is actively transferring, like streaming audio or a largish download. Straightforward web surfing doesn't seem to cause the problem, I've received multiple calls while surfing. But during streaming audio, calls go to voice mail every time.
I swear to you, I get calls when I am using data all the time on my Wing. I have the stock T-Mo rom and everything. No CID unlocking, no SIM unlocking.
It happens to me alot that people complain they have called me and it goes straight to voicemail... and its been in cases where im not even using my phone, and as far as I know, I have good signal.
I was running this GB soft program that kept my data connections always on... so I stopped using that to see if I notice a difference.
On the T-Mobile MDA it worked just fine, but on my Wing I can't receive calls while online either.
I just did some testing and I need to correct my original statement. Looks like kerrkj and the others were right. Just being online does not stop you from receiving calls. Just when you are transferring data, the line being actively used, you are not reachable. So, when you are web browsing, it depends whether the moment the call comes in, data is transmitted or not. I was testing accessing different web pages and a couple of times it worked and a couple of times it did not. When streaming audio the calls went to VM 100% of the time.
So, when I am using tomtom and having the traffic check activated, it will be pure coincidence whether you receive a call or not. When streaming audio it will be guaranteed that you are not receiving calls.
I am pretty sure that it was not like that with my magician. Hopefully t-mobile sorts it out sooner than later.
thanks for all your feedback

it happens to me too, i know on sprint with the treo's you can run internet or phone, all calls will go to voicemail if you are on the internet. i just assumed it was that way with all of them.

Dropping Calls

Hi there,
I was hoping someone could be of assistance.
I try to carry out solutions for myself, but I can no longer go on!
I have had the Hero since July/August. I unlocked it from Orange and now using o2 since I bought the phone). I changed settings etc and have since used data network, email etc okay although it has always been intermittent.
However, I have always had a problem with dropped calls. It constantly does it - won't phone through. Also texts don't always send. Presently, I can't do anything - calls, internet etc - even with full bars.
I may have fully bars as I do now, yet I call myself and it goes to answerphone. I have so many missed calls. Can anyone shed any light.
I am on firmware 1.5 if that makes any difference. My signal strength atm is -63bm and all is in service.
I can't even access the Internet at the moment either.
can you say, whats your "Build Number", Baseband and Kernel?
You can see this at same place, where you see your Firmware Version (Thats Android Version)

[Q] HyperDroid-CM7-v3.0.0: Missed Calls and Contacts

I changed from the stock OS of my HD2 to hyperdroid, but I have two problems.
1) When I miss a call, it is only shown in the history if my phone was on at the time or had reception. Strangely, if someone sends a text to my phone while it is off, I receive it once my phone has been turned on again. Even if it does not shown a missed call under those circumstances, I can still receive voicemails from them.
2) There are no options in the original contacts section to add/remove/important so on. I installed the hotfix from the Hyperdroid yet it still does not work. An app for another contact list works, but the original one does not.
Can anyone please help me with those issues?
Thank you for the time.
#1 is by design. That is how GSM works. Calls you miss when the phone is off or out of coverage area can be notified as SMS alerts, but only if the network provider supports that feature.
I don't use the ROM you have, so can't help on #2...
Swyped from my HTC HD2 running CM7 (Gingerbread 2.3.5)
Same problem
My problem is that I can't receive any calls what so ever.
I have been using this ROM for only 2 days and my call log shows that there has been incoming calls but the phone simply sends them directly to voice-mail.
is the a fix or tweak for this?
Please S.O.S!!!!!!!!

[QUESTION] VOIP calls dropping when incoming call

Hi all,
I can imagine this is a general Android feature but since I use the OP5 I thought of asking here.
I noticed while using f.e. WhatsApp voice calls (over WiFi) that they drop when a network call is incoming.
Is there a way (rooted or not) to change that priority and keep the VoIP call alive and just show that someone is calling you normally ?
Thank you in advance
apologies for not responding with a fix for you - but there's definitely some issue with the latest build of oxygen OS and voip - in addition to call drops there are problems with voice/SIP/RTP itself. This is not just limited to whatsapp - but also Tango and skype.
Only real way to isolate the issue seems to be to reflash to older stock ROM and see if the problem persists. But is it worth it?
