Orientation App - Android Software Development

Hi there, did some searching but didn't find anything, just curious if there was an application out somewhere that could block certain rotations, such as turning a device upside down, or to the left? Thanks in advance

If you're running any cm based rom, you choose whether you want 270 or 360 degree orientation, or just turn it off altogether in settings.

Anyway to force landscape 90° clockwise instead counterclock?

So far many apps are pretty lax in whether you hold the fire landscape with usb port on right or left. I was holding it to the left since I had it and had no problems.
Now I have a case like a book flap and I prefer the flap ontop hanging back,.usb port on the left. Couple.of.apps force it upside down, having to hold it the other way looks and feels stupid now. Anyone know if there's an app or what.exactly would control that? The kernel?

Found an app, Orientation Control
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.coinsoft.android.orientcontrol&hl=en
This has an override to force the landscape the other way. Only problem I've seen is if you have it set to autorotate like default, then those apps will still rotate counterclock. If you set this to forced, it will do it clockwise but lock and disable the auto rotate.
So an extra step if you know youll be using something for a while and worth manually setting and locking the setting.
my display is stuck in landscape now since yesterday while i was trying to install swiftkey x. i never actually got it installed so i cannot say it is the cause of having the display stuck. i was also tinkering around in nook colour tools, but cannot seem to find anything nook colour tools' settings that fixes my problem.
any feedback is appreciated.

Horizontal upside down

I really like having my tablet upside down which is fine for dolphins for pad and some others, but video players and games revert the orientation back to right side up. I thought that locking the rotation would keep it upside down but it doesn't work. Does anyone know a way to lock it or is it thor rom?
You can try running a different rom, but I believe the result will be the same.
Some apps, are programmed to run at a certain orientation.
Also note, that Thor's rom, the last I looked, currently the display lock button is inoperable, but I believe there is a software setting for it in the menus.
Yeah I meant the software toggle. Is there some way to toggle inverting the screen, so making the app think down is up?

What is the benefit to doing this?
so I can watch videos in the oriention where the docking prt is facing up. That's what I'm looking to do, just trying to figure out how.
2 things you can try:
1) Apparently MoboPlayer has an orientation lock setting somewhere. I haven't used it but people in the TF forums are trying to do the same thing as you are.
2) There is an app in the market that can force orientation. I've heard it works but again have not tried it: It is called Orientation Control.
Orientation lock works!! Had to go through all the steps of typing orientation in market (and spend 1.50). I think just ssumed it would something complicated. Thanks
Glad I could help

[Q] Rotate screen by 180°

especially when connected to Power cable i would prefer when screen would be rotated by 180°.
Yes i know there is auto rotation but this does not concern the lock screen an also some apps are ignoring this feature. Also the home screen is set to 0° after unlocking.
I'seen in different threads, that it is possible in CM7 to flip the screen my default but it is allways mentioned to consult the rom developer and never sayed ho to do this.
can anyone help ?
are you talking about cm7 or stock rom ?
in stock you can lock the screen by tapping the status bar and select unlocked
this will not affect the lock screen but my launcher (go launcher)
i'm about cm7.
maybe ther might be settings for one or the other launcher but i want to flip the screen globally so that it affects every app including the lock screen.
edit: i assume this must be done by configuring the graphics driver
I agree. It would be nice to keep power button on top.

i think to remember that there is a setting for this in /system/build.prop
found:
ro.sf.hwrotation=270
where you change the 270 into either 180, 90, or 0....
!!! but use at your own risk !!!
yes thats it man.
but now i habe to find a way to rotate the touchscreen as well
you will have to rotate the touchscreen and the accelerometer as well
i think that will not be so easy because it's compiled or linked in the souce code
sorry ...
yes this seems to be hard coded and needs a patch. I've never built android from source so i will no gonna put my hands on.
could anybody please place this as a feature request to the developpers. I've no permission to post in the devs forum.
well, i've 9 posts. including this one it will be 10

Landscape Mode

Playing around with settings and Seem to have stumbled on something. I see that in the settings (Screen Shot included) were you have the ability to change rotation modes, If you tilt kindle to landscape and un check 90 degrees and 0 degrees and keep 270 degrees checked it will stay stuck in landscape, I personally think that for myself kindle is much more portable in this position.
And no need for more added applications
** I searched and searched with no success on this issue as I have found here, if I did miss this and has been discovered and i'm wasting space forgive me.
Don't most 4.0+ roms already have a Auto Rotate screen switch so that you have turn that on and off from the notifications?
You are correct but with this I have found that this is a secure way of locking in tablet orientation without system having other settings to fall back on (ie: 0, 90, etc)

G6 Screen Rotation Speed (or restrict it to Gallery?)

anyway to speed it up? the lag/wait for auto-rotate is kind of a drag ... and actually the only place i want/need it is photos/videos in the gallery. if there's a way to turn it off for the rest of the OS and only enable for photos and videos, i'd appreciate the pointer.
It's usually not lag but a small delay built in the software to prevent unwanted rotation in case of movement of the phone.
I think there is a third part app that controls rotation, so you can disable it for everything exception the apps that you want it to rotate in
An example https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.snowlife01.android.rotationcontrol

How big a delay are you experiencing? Is it more than 2 seconds?
As for controlling auto-rotating within a specific app, you only need it for the gallery so I'd suggest you just turn it off and enable it when you need it.
Camera still rotates when rotation is disabled, which is cool.
