Playing around with settings and Seem to have stumbled on something. I see that in the settings (Screen Shot included) were you have the ability to change rotation modes, If you tilt kindle to landscape and un check 90 degrees and 0 degrees and keep 270 degrees checked it will stay stuck in landscape, I personally think that for myself kindle is much more portable in this position.
And no need for more added applications
** I searched and searched with no success on this issue as I have found here, if I did miss this and has been discovered and i'm wasting space forgive me.
Don't most 4.0+ roms already have a Auto Rotate screen switch so that you have turn that on and off from the notifications?
You are correct but with this I have found that this is a secure way of locking in tablet orientation without system having other settings to fall back on (ie: 0, 90, etc)

How do I get gyrator to perform a single rotate to landscape on launching TomTom and then lock it into landscape mode. Basically I only want TomTom to appear in landscape.
Currently when viewing in lanscape it works great until you hit a bump in the road and then it starts rotating the screen at random.
Darn annoying.
I've been trying to play with the Events but can't seem to get it to work.
Thanks.
Have you tried the Sensitivity option?
Menu > Options > Sensors > Movement Sensitivity
Haven't tried this myself (default setting of "2" is fine for me), but maybe you can set it to "10" or something like that and see if that helps.
Thanks managed to sort it out. Seems that Gyrator functions backwards to what the text would lead you to expect... thus if I enabled that it should rotate it doesn't....
Hi,
i have new magic.
the (automatic) screen rotation doesnt work.
i have read that this could be a problem of non-root.
however i want to root my magic and could get different roms.
if i turn the magic to the left the display doent change.
trying apps like bubbles, sensor test, sensor debug, acelerator log, etc.
shows me that these apps realize a smooth rotate of the magic in all three axes.
i try the dice app. while shaking the magic with strong, i get a rotation.
but the rotation only stops when i decativate the automatic rotation (and enabling it again to test further)
does anybody know if theres a chance to edit some files with calibration data etc for the screen rotation ?
some other hints ?
i have also tried the 8-movement but no change.
i'm wondering that the apps (see above) shows a movement in all axes but the rotation doesnt work.
plz help
strange but now it works
i am sorry but now it works.
i used again the wipe rotate settings from RA Recovery 1.52G
and i start the Bubble apps and after turning it in 3 dimensional movements
i realize that bubble show the spirit level with different views.
in the past there was only one spirit-level view and the degrees (could be shown via bubble settings) doesnt reach 30 degrees in the past.
now after the wipe rotate setting and directly 3d-movements (like a 8 in 3 dimensions) the should have trained the accelerator in a new manner i have never seen before.
now screen rotations work.
believe me there is a chance to train the calibration.
( i know that calibration with the 8-movement-method was already described but i try this hundred times without a change)
So far many apps are pretty lax in whether you hold the fire landscape with usb port on right or left. I was holding it to the left since I had it and had no problems.
Now I have a case like a book flap and I prefer the flap ontop hanging back,.usb port on the left. Couple.of.apps force it upside down, having to hold it the other way looks and feels stupid now. Anyone know if there's an app or what.exactly would control that? The kernel?
+1

Found an app, Orientation Control
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.coinsoft.android.orientcontrol&hl=en
This has an override to force the landscape the other way. Only problem I've seen is if you have it set to autorotate like default, then those apps will still rotate counterclock. If you set this to forced, it will do it clockwise but lock and disable the auto rotate.
So an extra step if you know youll be using something for a while and worth manually setting and locking the setting.
my display is stuck in landscape now since yesterday while i was trying to install swiftkey x. i never actually got it installed so i cannot say it is the cause of having the display stuck. i was also tinkering around in nook colour tools, but cannot seem to find anything nook colour tools' settings that fixes my problem.
any feedback is appreciated.
Is there a way to change the landscape orientation of the kindle (using CM7) for full screen apps? More specifically, I have several games that are played in a landscape orientation, but they do not rotate if you turn the device upside down. The design of my case has a sort of stand, but the way its stands up is the opposite direction than most apps seem to default to. Is there a way to change the default landscape orientation?

Click to collapse
I've tried doing the same thing and can not find a way to do it. I did try disabling the 90 degree rotation but the games still play in the default landscape mode.
solved my own problem! check out this app here get your device in the orientation you want, and then lock it. it will keep that orientation when you go into apps. however, its not pretty and the simple ui isn't perfect. I'm thinking this would work better...but it costs money...so we'll see. this works for now though
Anyone come up with a hack to change the default orientation to orientation upsislde down. I prefer having the power button on top. I can easily turn the kindle 180 but some apps/games don't rotate (where's my water). Also I am left handed and don't mind my case opening from the left
You can use the lock/unlock feature (leftmost control on the toolbar that you bring down to change volume, brightness, etc). This locks the screen in whatever orientation you want.
The problem is that that many games (and other apps demanding high video performance) bypass the standard video API and write directly to video memory. Those will never be able to be rotated, unfortunately, through any system utility or external app.
I see. I'm positive there can be a hack to make the default orientation flipped. From an app this cant be done. But once you get into modifying system files. I assume it can be done once the value is located
Agreed. This is something that Amazon should do, though, we shouldn't have to hack our tablets for this really basic functionality. The lock screen not rotating was really bad.
