New RUU yet? - Droid Incredible General

Has anyone seen a new RUU floating around yet since the OTA update which brings N and 720p?
From what I've read here you can't go back to stock if you install the leaked OTA as update.zip, has anyone tried reverting back to stock just for fun?
I wonder what happens?
I'd be interested to see a new RUU floating around or stock image with the new radio.
I have been thinking more about it lately, I really don't need a rooted phone by now, and jumped the gun by installing the OTA update early, and then rooting, I'm just curious to know when I can go back to stock!

Don't know why anyone bothers playing around with an unreleased OTA. When it actually comes out unrevoked will update their very easy to update tool with the changes for a painfree update soon enough.
What is the rush? Just wait for it.

It's fun and interesting. You know what its like when you get a new toy.
I've already downgraded to the previous hboot and reverted to stock. Awaiting the update now.

2.2 froyo question

Hey guys, just curious since I havent gotten a chance to use a rooted phone yet.
-When google comes out with 2.2 froyo update, are we able to update it from a rooted rom or does it have to be under stock condition?
+1. will be going from cyan to stock again when froyo comes out. but how?
You'd probably have to wait until someone post the stock rom of froyo, and then flash that.
Or flash on of the numerous stock ROMs that already exist, and get OTA like the rest of us.
Or wait for cyan for his release which I believe will be soon after the official release.
You will have to wait until either someone posts a stock 2.2 ROM that world with rooted phones or someone like cyanogen updates.
Once a different recovery is installed on the phone, the OTA system will never work again. Not even if you go back to stock.
This is a complete non issue. The stock 2.2 rom may very well be available to flash here before you recieve the ota if its a rolling release. If not it will be a close race. BTW, The ota looks for a stock officially signed recovery to install itself with, if you do not have one the ota will fail.

Just out of interest (I am not making any judgements), why do you want to go from CM to stock as opposed to a CM modded version of 2.2?
Or are you just assuming 2.2 will drop before CM has time to mod it so want to get on it asap?
ill just wait for cyano to release its froyo version...
I'd be willing to bet that the features present in 2.2 will reach a version of CM before they reach any non-rooted N1. I'm just saying... we already have some of the features currently, i.e. customizable trackball notifications.
that really just depends on when google pushes the sources of 2.2 into AOSP. so chances are that a stock 2.2 will be available sooner than a cyanogen 2.2, but it will be worth the wait

That's not true. I did a warranty replacement a while back and restored the phone to stock before sending it back. I used the SAPPIMG.zip method to restore the shipping ROM, recovery, and radio. After rebooting and setting up the phone, I was offered the OTA update and the OTA completed successfully. Being bootloader unlocked did not affect my ability to get OTA updates.
A little confusion here it seems and I will throw out my understanding. An ota will work if it does not have to access an officially signed recovery, if it does and does not find one it will fail. Once you have installed a custom recovery going back to the stock one will not help in this regard because it is no longer officially signed. 2.2 will require an officially signed recovery to install and everything I read says it will be seen, it will download, then it will fail to install. If this is incorrect than I look forward to learning more about this question as it keeps popping up over and over. I have yet to hear from any owner who was able to update from 2.0 to 2.1 after having installed a custom recovery, seems like there would have been many....

Froyo 2.2 OTA = Lose Root?

I stumbled across a page a few days ago, and someone said that if you take the 2.2 update through Sprint, you'll lose your root (I know this part) but he also said you won't be able to root in the future.
Is this true? If so then I'd definitely prefer jumping on a 2.2 ROM and using that instead of receiving the update via Sprint.
I would like to use the Cyro ROM or whatever, but I don't like the idea of not having my FM radio or 4G etc etc.
Just use Fresh 3.0 (based on 2.2) then you can keep all the HTC/Sprint stuff you want.
Any official updates - past, present, and future - will break root. If you are rooted and don't want to lose root, be patient and wait a couple days for the dudes here to put out a rooted ROM without having to wait for a root exploit. When updating to an official ROM there is a likelihood that there will be no root exploit to discover and thus you will be S.O.L. when it comes to regaining root. Patience.
There are currently several 2.2 ROMs based off of the official leak (but it's supposedly not the final build). Look for the rooted ones by netarchy or whoever.
just give it a few more days. the official v2.2 should go out tomorrow. just don't accept the OTA update.
if you are planning on rooting your phone then do not accept any Over The Air updates (yes OTA can jak ur root). the official comes out on 8/3 so give it till the weekend and you should have updated ROMs using the latest greatest. anyone updating to the leaked version 'should' be ok but will prolly be updating again once their ROM gets the official updates. save yourself the stress and wait til the dust settles...unless ur big into the geeking on your EVO...then just make sure your nandroids are good.
Cyanogen will be nice. however, due to that teams philosophy on using opensource code you may not see 4G as fast as you will with some of our other devs (godspeed to madcoders fingers). I'm probably going to load the Fresh 3.0 ROM later this week...once the dust has settled. i miss my 4G.
If you want to keep root, DO NOT download anything from sprint, only download from XDA and the like.

OTA has been known to cause:
Anal Seepage.
Watch.
Right after someone takes it, they are gonna come here wanting root...
If you do OTA, either wait for Root, or SHUT UP!
Don't whine, don't b!tch, and don't say you didn't know!
I am not in hurry to upgrade to 2.2, I don't mind waiting. I've had my phone two weeks and I've barely rooted it and it's still not even setup the way I want it yet because I know I'll be flashing soon anyways.
Looks like Fresh 3.0 will be the way to go, I'll just wait until a bit after the 3rd so I have the final build.
I downloaded the update just so I could have the file I don't want to actually install it. Anyone know where the file is downloaded too so I can pull it off my phone?

[Q] How can I stop OTA from trying to download (and erroring) when I'm on leaked 2.2?

I haven't seen anyone else with this problem yet, so sorry about the new thread.
I have a Droid X that came straight from Verizon with 2.1, and was delivered a the day the official OTA for 2.2 went live. I always intended to run the leaked version of 2.3.15, but out of curiosity I went to the update page on the phone and asked it to check for an update just to see what it said.
It of course said that an update was available and then started a countdown saying it was going to begin the update momentarily. I hit the button to cancel the immediate update and then proceeded to go through all the steps that ended up with me having a phone running the leaked, rooted 2.3.15 version. It was supposed to be the DeOdexed version, but because I never formatted the system during the update the Odexed files remain. THAT I know how to fix.
My problem is that apparently because I "started" the OTA update process, Verizon wants to STILL update, even though I am already running the leaked 2.2. So multiple times a day now a little window pops up telling me "Download of update failed" and there is nothing I can do but back out of the window. I can't stop the update process anywhere, and if I go to the "Check for updates" window again it says "update in progress"
Anyone have any ideas short of clearing everything and starting all over again (which I will do if I have to, but this seems like an interesting unique problem that some of you might want to know about or tackle.)
Thank you
Look on your sdcard for a folder named "cache" and delete it. That MIGHT fix it. This is just a guess.
couldnt find it. any other ideas?
How about you SBF back to the 2.1 and then update to OTA 2.2 and check this thread out here for - OTA 2.2 Deodex'd

so if i downloaded the 2.2 ota update in rom manager i can still sbf down to 2.1? just wanna make sure its ok before i brick my phone. lemme know thanks
Hey man, I'm completely a guide-following noob here, but I've got to tell you...I'm not sure you can do that.
I know the OTA changes the bootloader, which means if you sbf back then the efuse will be triggered and brick you. I'm not sure how far the update has to go before it makes that change. It doesn't sound like it's done anything on yours, but I'd ask some more knowledgeable people here first

If you have the official OTA 2.2 then no you can't downgrade back to 2.1 though the means of SBF because OTA 2.2 changes the kernel and baseband of the device which are not compatible with 2.1.
Question to everyone worried about receiving the OTA 2.2 and keeping the leaked 2.2, your getting better performance from the OTA 2.2 then the leaked 2.2 version, just my thought.
if only someone had the answer!!!!!

Systeem Update 1.82.405.1??????

Today I received an OTA system update version 1.82.405.1 on my HDZ.
Does anybody here received or installed it??
And what kind of update is it?
I'm affraid of losing root again, similar like what happend with version 1.72.
I feel like I'm stating the obvious here, but NEVER EVER install an OTA if you have root! I'm sure you know this now from your previous experiance, but just to save you trouble incase you didn't know. As for the update, I'm not sure what it contains, but it seems like an older update as the newest version of virtuous is based on 1.85.72.2.
EDIT: Also suggest reading this if you haven't already: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875099
Thnx.
But I've read it's safe to flash an OTA update once you've rooted your phone with the Gfree method.
I now running a stock 1.72 rom, rooted with Gfree / psneuter.
In that case I'm not sure, but I wouldn't try it until it's been confirmed to be ok. And while I'm sure you have you're reasons, but why not try out the likes of virtuous? It's pretty much stock sense but with added features and improved performance, and as I said it's also on the latest RUU.
Taking an OTA will *definitely* reduce you to "stock", so even if its safe, it isn't worth it.
Be aware that it *IS POSSIBLE* for an OTA UPDATE to modify your partition 7 and take away radio s-off. The only reason why people tend to say that its safe is ONLY because they never actually HAVE done that.
still i am curious about the content.
i dont need root anymore. DZ is perfectly fine without.
I don't think applying and offical OTA while rooted on a non stock rom is a good idea. If your willing to take the risk, or don't care about loosing root or getting it back if lost. Then try it out. Be the guinea pig because it doesn't look like you will take the advise of the forum you posted anyways.
Sent from my CM7 powered G2
whats in the update then??
Yeah I'd like to now too
Just checked, I get the update too....
I don't have s-off or root so I think I am going to download it.
It s 17MB,
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Install the new full ROM,then you don`t loos root and S-Off

yes, it is a 17 Mb package. I got it and installed it. (nothing to lose, I have no root, I do not need it, my DZ is PERFECT without it. I have been tweaking and **** before on WinMo, but not now...)
It said it is camera improvements and other small bugfixes.
All I saw is a different sms counter on the icon, it's white numbers on a black circle, nothing special.
I had a busy day, had no time to play around.
The firmware remains 2.2.1.
I will follow up if I find out anything else.
Update: the mentiones sms counter is for a voicemail of course ))) my fault
I've read the album/gallery bugs are fixed. No need to rescan pictures anymore.

wanna know of the sms notification bug is solved!! thats the only thing i hate
No use as the updates are usually non-important and if they are, someone will extract it and you can flash it by itself without the risk.
HTC hasn't yet released official release notes for this update. As already said it should improve camera, system performance, fix some bugs and also improve htcsence.com -functionality.
htc 1.82.405.1 update
I just updated using the OTA update to 1.82.405.1 on my htc desire z (I have stock android).
But now the touch screen is horizontaly mirrored.
Meaning if i click on home the search button is clicked.
If i touch the icons on the left side, the right side icon registers the click.
Only center of the screen is safe
Let me know if anyone else has this issue after the recent updated.
Hopefully there is a solution out there.
UPDATE:
I did 2x hard resets which didnt help.
However a soft reset did the trick and every thing is back to normal.

If you already have root/S-OFF, then it's only "safe" once the new release has been verified by the devs as not causing anything bad to happen with your root/S-OFF. e.g. in theory there could be a new OTA released that will permanently lock you out of root/S-OFF.
When the 1.72 OTA first came out, it wasn't rootable for quite a while, so folks with root who accepted the OTA lost their root for some time.
Damn, I am getting the feeling the new update drains the battery faster than 1.72,
phone was about empty at 11pm yesterday, it was plugged in until 8 am...
done nothing the entire day actually...
notification-bug seems to be fixed (yes, new counter for sms/mails/etc) and best part: no jumping screen, when writing sms!!! at least till now...

[Q] HTC OS updates

So I just had something peculiar happen with my EVO. I recently did the OTA update to 4.22 cause I had to take my phone to sprint for the phantom voicemail issue. As I was sitting here just now, it popped up saying there was an OTA update for my phone, would I like to download it. Without thinking, I said yes assuming it was an updated version of the new gingerbread rom.
Soon as the phone rebooted, it say "Congratulations, youve been updated to 3.70.xx" My phone downgraded me to 3.70 lol. Anyone else had anything strange like this happen?
Now when I search for HTC updates, it says 4.22 is available. Im thinking about saying screw that and rerooting, but I dont know if it would have kept the GB HBOOT or not... Any ideas there?
Ummm go into bootloader and check yourself and re-post which version it is or try to root.
Yeah im curious about this. I am currently in an EST Zone in the US and i dont get any updates avail. Think they would have to roll back GB to install the new OTA? I dont see why.
If you get the update let us know if it changed the hboot or not. I'm stuck on 2.16 and would like to revert if that's possible.
Lucky bastard
Hmm it would seem Im unlucky. I am also on HBOOT 2.16, so I guess I will have to wait for the devs to come up with a new root utility.
On the plus side, I hear sprint is releasing an update for the GB rom on Monday that will fix the netflix and ghost voicemail issues (two of the main reasons I wanted to be unrooted). So maybe Ill stick with the stock sprint GB rom for a while and see what pans out.
Just wish I could get rid of this bloatware ****...
