So I just had something peculiar happen with my EVO. I recently did the OTA update to 4.22 cause I had to take my phone to sprint for the phantom voicemail issue. As I was sitting here just now, it popped up saying there was an OTA update for my phone, would I like to download it. Without thinking, I said yes assuming it was an updated version of the new gingerbread rom.
Soon as the phone rebooted, it say "Congratulations, youve been updated to 3.70.xx" My phone downgraded me to 3.70 lol. Anyone else had anything strange like this happen?
Now when I search for HTC updates, it says 4.22 is available. Im thinking about saying screw that and rerooting, but I dont know if it would have kept the GB HBOOT or not... Any ideas there?
Ummm go into bootloader and check yourself and re-post which version it is or try to root.
Yeah im curious about this. I am currently in an EST Zone in the US and i dont get any updates avail. Think they would have to roll back GB to install the new OTA? I dont see why.
If you get the update let us know if it changed the hboot or not. I'm stuck on 2.16 and would like to revert if that's possible.
Lucky bastard
Hmm it would seem Im unlucky. I am also on HBOOT 2.16, so I guess I will have to wait for the devs to come up with a new root utility.
On the plus side, I hear sprint is releasing an update for the GB rom on Monday that will fix the netflix and ghost voicemail issues (two of the main reasons I wanted to be unrooted). So maybe Ill stick with the stock sprint GB rom for a while and see what pans out.
Just wish I could get rid of this bloatware ****...

I know that HTC had originally said the *final* Froyo build would be pull-able before it begins pushing on 8/3. Has anyone been able to PULL the update as of yet? If so, what software version are you seeing? And is flash included in the update?
I would like to know as well
In before use other custom FroYo roms etc.
i put the leaked froyo on my phone and it has Flash 10.1
I have been checking most of the day. Haven't recieved an update yet. I am rooted. I wonder if the update knows if you are rooted or not. I have been reading about non rooted users getting the update today tho.
oh it was available..... then it was pulled.
i doubt you will see anything until the actual release tomorrow.
and who cares really, its 24 hours...
its going to be more interesting to see what has changed and if they gave it a new Rev # or if they pulled the same sh|t as the last update where they pulled it to fix some things but kept the same Rev #.

Doubt you that anyone is getting the update via OTA manual pull today at all. It will be out tomorrow in groups via OTA push, and if you want you should be able to force DL it. This is if sprint/HTC hold their word on the date at least, they could always say they found something and delay it.
Only way to get it now is download it form a site that got the leaked version friday and install it, or if your rooted and u install one of the many fine rom's available.

When was it available? I have been checking all morning and saw nothing.
He's talking about the one released Friday afternoon. Sprint said, however, that it's not the final build and the one pushed tomorrow will supposedly be a newer build
Kinda Can't Wait But I Rather A Final And More Stable Build/ROM. Just Wonder How Long Until There Is A Rooted Version.

****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Double what he said....
Did the OTA update on rooted phone and got the triangle with exclamation in the middle with android character in front. Gonna try to reboot see what happens.
I stumbled across a page a few days ago, and someone said that if you take the 2.2 update through Sprint, you'll lose your root (I know this part) but he also said you won't be able to root in the future.
Is this true? If so then I'd definitely prefer jumping on a 2.2 ROM and using that instead of receiving the update via Sprint.
I would like to use the Cyro ROM or whatever, but I don't like the idea of not having my FM radio or 4G etc etc.
Just use Fresh 3.0 (based on 2.2) then you can keep all the HTC/Sprint stuff you want.
Any official updates - past, present, and future - will break root. If you are rooted and don't want to lose root, be patient and wait a couple days for the dudes here to put out a rooted ROM without having to wait for a root exploit. When updating to an official ROM there is a likelihood that there will be no root exploit to discover and thus you will be S.O.L. when it comes to regaining root. Patience.
There are currently several 2.2 ROMs based off of the official leak (but it's supposedly not the final build). Look for the rooted ones by netarchy or whoever.
just give it a few more days. the official v2.2 should go out tomorrow. just don't accept the OTA update.
if you are planning on rooting your phone then do not accept any Over The Air updates (yes OTA can jak ur root). the official comes out on 8/3 so give it till the weekend and you should have updated ROMs using the latest greatest. anyone updating to the leaked version 'should' be ok but will prolly be updating again once their ROM gets the official updates. save yourself the stress and wait til the dust settles...unless ur big into the geeking on your EVO...then just make sure your nandroids are good.
Cyanogen will be nice. however, due to that teams philosophy on using opensource code you may not see 4G as fast as you will with some of our other devs (godspeed to madcoders fingers). I'm probably going to load the Fresh 3.0 ROM later this week...once the dust has settled. i miss my 4G.
If you want to keep root, DO NOT download anything from sprint, only download from XDA and the like.

OTA has been known to cause:
Anal Seepage.
Watch.
Right after someone takes it, they are gonna come here wanting root...
If you do OTA, either wait for Root, or SHUT UP!
Don't whine, don't b!tch, and don't say you didn't know!
I am not in hurry to upgrade to 2.2, I don't mind waiting. I've had my phone two weeks and I've barely rooted it and it's still not even setup the way I want it yet because I know I'll be flashing soon anyways.
Looks like Fresh 3.0 will be the way to go, I'll just wait until a bit after the 3rd so I have the final build.
I downloaded the update just so I could have the file I don't want to actually install it. Anyone know where the file is downloaded too so I can pull it off my phone?
I haven't seen anyone else with this problem yet, so sorry about the new thread.
I have a Droid X that came straight from Verizon with 2.1, and was delivered a the day the official OTA for 2.2 went live. I always intended to run the leaked version of 2.3.15, but out of curiosity I went to the update page on the phone and asked it to check for an update just to see what it said.
It of course said that an update was available and then started a countdown saying it was going to begin the update momentarily. I hit the button to cancel the immediate update and then proceeded to go through all the steps that ended up with me having a phone running the leaked, rooted 2.3.15 version. It was supposed to be the DeOdexed version, but because I never formatted the system during the update the Odexed files remain. THAT I know how to fix.
My problem is that apparently because I "started" the OTA update process, Verizon wants to STILL update, even though I am already running the leaked 2.2. So multiple times a day now a little window pops up telling me "Download of update failed" and there is nothing I can do but back out of the window. I can't stop the update process anywhere, and if I go to the "Check for updates" window again it says "update in progress"
Anyone have any ideas short of clearing everything and starting all over again (which I will do if I have to, but this seems like an interesting unique problem that some of you might want to know about or tackle.)
Thank you
Look on your sdcard for a folder named "cache" and delete it. That MIGHT fix it. This is just a guess.
couldnt find it. any other ideas?
How about you SBF back to the 2.1 and then update to OTA 2.2 and check this thread out here for - OTA 2.2 Deodex'd

so if i downloaded the 2.2 ota update in rom manager i can still sbf down to 2.1? just wanna make sure its ok before i brick my phone. lemme know thanks
Hey man, I'm completely a guide-following noob here, but I've got to tell you...I'm not sure you can do that.
I know the OTA changes the bootloader, which means if you sbf back then the efuse will be triggered and brick you. I'm not sure how far the update has to go before it makes that change. It doesn't sound like it's done anything on yours, but I'd ask some more knowledgeable people here first

If you have the official OTA 2.2 then no you can't downgrade back to 2.1 though the means of SBF because OTA 2.2 changes the kernel and baseband of the device which are not compatible with 2.1.
Question to everyone worried about receiving the OTA 2.2 and keeping the leaked 2.2, your getting better performance from the OTA 2.2 then the leaked 2.2 version, just my thought.
if only someone had the answer!!!!!
Hey guys,
So I flashed the ROM rubiX Focused 0.3 and somehow couldnt get my phone past the activation screen. No big deal. I couldn't get access to the bootstraper either. So I use my good old Handydandy 2.1 SBF and revert my phone back to stock. I then use a copy of the .604 update to hopefully prep my phone to install the 2.2 ota Leak. Well I am getting ready to 1 click root it after installing 604 and move su around and I happen to check my version number under about phone and I have 2.2. WTF? I am not super upset or anything I just dont understand how? The System version and the Base band version both match the 2.2 OTA but honestly How did I get it?
If no one can answer this its fine, just thought I would throw it out there since it was bugging me.
Thanks!
So since the OTA was just released and 2.2 ppl can update with no problem, I tried but can't flash the update.zip because I'm on 2.3.3 leaked. I guess my question is, if i go to tmobile to do the whole sd card update crap, will they deny me the update if they find out I'm on the leaked version of 2.3.3 or will they even care? What do you guys think?
I don't see why, it can't hurt to try. Worst they can do in the store is tell you no. I sent in a phone under warranty that had the leak on it and tmo never said a word about it.
they probably won't even check to see if you have the leak. what the hell will they do anyway if they do see it??? They will probably power the phone down and pop the card in and update. I just hope they can update over the leaked since I cant get the OTA to work.
Yeah that makes sense. plus i heard that people got some phones back with the update already installed anyway, so I guess we'll see. Thanks for the reply though.

There are sometimes multiple ota builds depending on the current version. Hold out and see if another file pops up.
I would also imagine someone will post the contents of the sd card as well.
worst case I think someone posted instructions for reverting to a stock image.

i did a warranty exchange and had the leaked version of 2.3 on my phone. No issues.
You can always downgrade via this guide How ever I doubt there is a giant difference between the leak and the OTA and I bet there will be a RUU released soon that you can update via bootloader.
Edit: This just popped up no comments yet, you can venture if you dare.
no issues when I handed over my phone to the guy today. worked just fine with the leaked version it. thank god cuz trying to downgrade was a major pain and got no where!
Anyone have the sd card contents.. it would make my life a lot easier. I'm on 2.3.3 and want to get to 2.3.4 without downgrading
