How to change VM number to Google Voice? - Vibrant General

I have installed and setup the GV app, which works with no problems (calls, text, VM, VM recall in GV app etc). When in the dialer and press #1 or the VM tab it calls the T-mo voicemail number, it does not redirect to GV.
From the home screen I checked - settings > call settings > voicemail >
Voicemail service is set to GV... when I select option below "Voicemail (settings for google voice)" a dialog box comes up titled "Voicemail number", it looks like I should be able to edit it but I can't. It shows the t-mo voicemail number not my personal t-mo number.
Is there a way to change a setting so the dialer goes to GV when #1 and VM tab are used?

Great question.i was also wondering if others had a long delay for the notification of a voice mail?

my GV notifications come through about the same as on mg G1... slower than t-mo text and VMs but still an acceptable length.

I have my GV set up as my default voicemail, but can not get it for work.
As mentioned by SykesAT, I'm given a box that includes a voicemail number. Are you supposed to edit that to have GV work properly?
I'm new to GV, and this is a bit confusing to me.
Any of you that got it to work, mind helping a self-proclaimed GV-n00b?

On my G1 when I click "voicemail" it opens up the GV app, which lists two things My voicemail number (IE my GV number) and my the option to sign out of GV. So yes I think we need to get the number that shows up that box to show our GV number, rather than the t-mo vm number.
One other thing. Have you get up your t-mo act to forward unanswered calls to GV? if not log into GV from you PC under setting follow the instructions by your mobile number to "Activate Google voicemail on this phone"

This.
If you do that, it'll tell you to enter a GSM code into dialer-- works great.

What about visual voicemail? With the T-Mo app, I assume it only loads messages from their servers?
Will the GV app display messages in a similar fashion, allowing you to scrub through the audio?

you get visual voice mail and more with the GV app. it give transcripts too.

type this into your dialer:
*004*1xxxxxxxxxx#
and then hit call.
where, xxxxxxxxxx is you 10digit mobile number. this should forward your VMs to GoogleVoice, and as long as u have the app installed and signed into, the notifications should work.
i still haven't figured how to change the "voice mail" tab in the dialer that comes with the samsung, that seems to the fixed only to tmobile's vm number.

Go Settings> Call settings>Voice call>Call forwarding to get this screen:

Fill in the bottom 3 with your gv number.
edit: I don't think this is op's question. I don't think you can change that number that is gray for the stock t-mo voicemail...

bchalk,
thanks for that, mine says the same also. Still have the issue of of the #1 and VM tab in the dialer.
Its not that imporant of an issue, I use the GV app most of the time anyway but... it is a puzzle.

The voice mail tab is just the saved contact. You should be able to edit that number in contacts. Next time you go to that tab, should call gv right? I just read the emails, but they are taking forever to come in.i didn't have to forward like I did in my g1.

No, that didn't work. There was indeed a "Voice Mail" contact on the SIM card that had the default 805-xxx-xxxx phone number for the T-Mobile voicemail. I edited it to show my Google Voice number and then tried using the Voicemail Tab and speed dial "1" in the dialer, but they both still go to the T-Mobile voice mail. I think we do indeed need to change the number located at Settings -> Call Settings -> Voicemail -> Voicemail, but it's greyed out.
My wife regularly goes to an area that gets voice reception, but no data. In that case, calling her voicemail is the only option. I've told her to call the "Voicemail" contact and she'll be fine, but she's used to just holding "1" in the dialer to get her voicemail when she doesn't have data service. Wish we could change that number.

Is there any solution to change the VM tab or the holding "1" to reflect a different number? (YouMail, GV etc)

No fix that I have seen so far.

Dial your GV number and it will connect you to your GV Voicemail. Until we're able to edit that grayed out selection, we'll be stuck with workarounds.

GV on Samsung Vibrant
I can't activate GV mail on my Vibrant. I am dailing the activation number and it's not dailing the last # and it gives a invalid number.
I have gone in the voice mail settings and select GV as my provider and I get a pop with a greyed out number. I can't seem to get GV mail working

Visual Voicemail
First post @ xda...bear with me...
For what it's worth, I just got off the phone w/T-Mobile (2 times) and was met with the same answer. I just got this phone a few days ago and was wondering why I wasn't getting any voicemails. I hadn't activated Visual Voicemail (but had downloaded Google Voice). I thought something was fishy w/the grayed-out box when setting this up but thought I missed something.
Apparently, as part of my data plan, this Visual Voicemail is included: no ifs, ands or buts about it. And...so...come to find out I had voicemails there.
I explained my frustration in not being able to use Google Voice (this was prior to finding this thread) in its full functionality (but had been able to w/the MyTouch). I'm told I've been the first to call about this.
The reps told me this is a new data package and there is no way to remove Visual Voicemail. They then went on to tell me that Google Voice is a 3rd party app (duh) they don't support and that Visual Voicemail is a really great free service they provide.
Be that as it may, I have been using Google Voice for a while and was dismayed to hear this until I read the fix here in terms of auto-forwarding. That you to the poster....works for me. Still not uber-jazzed that there's this voicemail mandate of sorts by T-Mobile, but..for now, this is good. Thanks for the fix!

It seems as if the TMO VM number is hard coded somewhere. Hopefully it's coded in the software, which means it could potentially be edited on a rooted phone. If it's hard coded in the kernel, or even the hardware, it would take much more work. We'll find out as soon as it annoys some talented developer who tries to fix it.

^ the VVM can be removed if you have root.

Username: your 11 digit Gizmo5 number (e.g. 17475555555)
Password: your Gizmo5 password
Server: proxy01.sipphone.com
4) Turn on your phone's Wifi connection. Make sure SIPDroid is running (should be in the Ongoing section of the notifications drop down menu).
5) Login to Google Voice (www.google.com/voice). Add & Verify your Gizmo5 number. If you set up SIPDroid correctly and your wifi is working properly, your G1 should ring. It took a few tries for the phone to actually ring but eventually it did for me.
Yes, you need a Google Voice account. No, no one can invite you except Google. Incoming calls on Gizmo5 are free. Outgoing calls are free only in the U.S. International calls are subject to Google Voice's rates. Ask further questions and discuss below!
Hmm, so it only works with WiFi?
It doesn't work with 3g/edge?
Thank you very much finally a way to do this!!

SIPDroid has an option to do it with 3G but I think this goes against T-Mobile's terms of use.
this is bs!!! You can get both free without using that!
Here's how:
Use the app GV. call from there. It will then call you with your GV calling you(free on mygay) then call the person. Look you can use it at any time.

I think that's right... so by using Gizmo5, are we just bypassing the use of incoming minutes?
Say if I wanted to call Iran, I would only be paying the 8.2 cents a minute to Iran and not be charged for any minutes with T-mobile?

1) This is not limited to wifi. Install Sipdroid-full from sipdroid.org for access over cellular network (assuming your carrier isn't blocking port 5060).
2) Not sure I trust Gizmo enough at this point to give it my Google password.
3) Gizmo has created a customized version of Sipdroid specifically for the purpose of making and receiving free calls to US numbers using Google Voice. Details here. Again, I haven't tried it myself as I don't trust Gizmo with my Google pw.
Can I remind everyone that this is a family website and that all language should reflect that

I was under the impression this sort of thing is against T-Mobile's terms and thus, while possible with 3G, not to be done.
And that Guava app is buggy for me. If they straighten it out, would make setup much easier.
So im using this with wifi bc im out of the country.. my outgoing calls work perfect and very clear but they are limited to 3 mins.. Now my incoming calls are my problem.. if someone dials me from google voice to my gizmo5 # it comes through and they hear me perfect but I cant hear them!!!. But if someone dials my google voice number it does not go through to my sipdroid and I dont get the call, not from a land line, not from a cell, and not from google voice they have to dial my sipnumber and only from google voice does it seem to be working.. and when i get the call i hear nothing :/ anyone want to help it would be greatly appreciated
EDIT: just finish posting and i received a call from my mother and it work she heard me i heard her and she dialead my google voice number?? any thoughts

[TIP] Google Voice VOIP

I searched the forums but didn't find an updated guide for sending and receiving free VOIP calls using Google Voice so either:
A. It's common knowledge and everyone knows already.
B. No one gives a crap about free calling.
or
C. I've finally found a way to give back to the community.
Apps needed:
Google Voice
Sipdroid
GVoice Callback
Summary:
It used to be a real PITA to get VOIP and Google Voice to play nice on your phone but now with a new feature included in the latest beta of Sipdroid it's virtually automagic.
Prerequisite:
To make things happen really smooth and seamless you'll need a working Google Voice account as well as the official app on your phone before proceeding to Step 1.
*Edit: Gtalk must be set as the only "Forward to" phone on the Google Voice settings webpage to prevent the "normal" VZW voice call from killing the 3g Sipdroid data connection.
Sipdroid Set Up
Step 1:
Install and run the latest version of Sipdroid. (2.0 or higher)
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Step 2:
Press the "New PBX linked to my Google Voice" button.
Step 3:
Create a name and password for your free PBXes account, supply your Google Voice account information and press the "Create" button.
If all the info you entered jives on the PBX side you'll receive confirmation and everything will be good to go. A green dot will appear in the top left corner of the notification bar to let you know it's "Registered".
Congratulations, you can now receive free VOIP calls to your Google Voice number through Sipdroid.
Ok, so what about making free VOIP calls with Google Voice?
As you may or may not know all incoming calls from the USA to GV are free, but there is a charge for outgoing calls. So the trick here is to turn your outgoing call into a free incoming call. This is made really simple by installing a handy little app called GVoice Callback.
GVoice Callback Set Up
Step 1:
Install and run the latest version of GVoice Callback
Step 2:
Supply your Google Voice account information and press the save button
Step 3:
Select "Google Talk" as your callback number and press the save button.
Step 4:
Select "When to use Callback" (always, never, ask, etc)
I personally leave it set as "Always" and toggle it on or off using the home screen widget.
So what happens now?
If you have Sipdroid registered and GV Callback running whenever you make a call from the standard Android dialer, GV Callback will intercept the call and forward it to your Google Voice number. Google Voice makes the call to the person you dialed and makes a call to you via Sipdroid (free incoming). As soon as you answer with Sipdroid the calls are patched together. Sipdroid can also be set to auto answer the callback so you don't have to.
There are several options in both apps to personalize how you want them to function for you that are beyond the scope of this tip.
For more info about Sipgate or to donate go here.
For more info about GVoice Callback or to donate go here.
Also VOIP quality can be very spotty at times so I wouldn't rely on it as my only form of telephony.
Disclaimer time:
I take no credit for any of this I am merely passing along information. All credit goes to the awesome Sipdroid Team and Xinlu. I am not responsible if you misuse these apps and break your provider's "Terms and Conditions" especially if you set your Google Voice number up as one of your "Friends & Family".
If I'm not mistaken, I believe I remember Google making GVoice calls free throughout 2011 (it was originally only until December 2010) so I don't think the second half is necessary at this moment.
The advantage, though, is that if you set this up as you say it doesn't appear you'll be using any minutes because it'll all be going over data. Nicely done! This seems like a great solution for those about to go over their minutes on their monthly plan.
Any word on call quality over 3G? I remember a friend telling me that calling from my laptop on WiFi sounded pretty awful but this was when GVoice first let you make free calls to landlines.
For some reason when I try to receive a call through 3g it shuts of and the green light turns red. Is verizon blocking VOIP? Works good through wifi
[Edit]Nevermind not working for wifi either.... I turn on airplane mode and then wifi but don't receive any calls

Not sure why it doesn't work on wifi for you. I've never had it not work on wifi in airplane mode or not. Sorry
As for not working on 3G: if you have Google Voice set up to forward calls to Google Talk and your mobile number the Voice call to your mobile number will disconnect your data connection. Unfortunately AT&T is right about something, you can't talk and surf (data) at the same time on Big Red.
FWIW, I just duplicated the 3g condition you described by adding my mobile number as a forward to phone. Light turned from Green to Red, but after removing my mobile number I was able to receive a call.
Hope this helps,
I don't have to use GV Callback and people could call/return my call fine with GV+Sipdroid.

This method will work on activated phones in airplane mode over wifi, deactived phones and even Android tablets. Try that with Google Voice by itself with no Sip Client running and you'll see this...

Google voice will allow you to send and receive free text messages already. You would of course have to tell all your friends to use your GV number instead.

Yes...unless you can find a hacked version of google voice that will work over wifi.
I did read somewhere though that Gingerbread had a Sip stack baked in which should make Sipdroid unnecessary.

That's what Google charges for porting a number into GV. Been standard since they launched number porting..
I'm hoping using your GV number as your Sprint number is free, as that's what I'm planning on doing.

Ported my existing Voice number to Sprint. Loving not needing the Voice app but am having issues receiving MMS sent to my GV number. I know Voice doesn't support MMS but I thought with the integration it would still come into my phone throught the stock text app. Anyone else who uses their GV number had any success or failure with this? I also had trouble with txt and mms sent to my phone I installed GV and I was getting the SMS on GV app and the MMS on Handcent.
Which honestly was annoying to me.. so needless to say I switched back and left GV
I got the invite on Thursday, and immediately switched my Sprint # to my GV #. I have two issues that bother me, but aren't deal breakers.
1. The mms/sms issue spoken of above. On top of that, when I first enabled my number, sms would not go to my native sms app, but only to GV. Mms would go to the messaging app. There is a setting to change this, a guy over at AF helped me to figure it out, so now the sms goes to both the sms and GV app, and along with that comes double notifications, which I can't turn off because it will disable voicemail notifications as well.
2. When I answer a call, I must press the answer call button on screen, then open the keypad and press 1 to allow the call. Kind of a pita, but Now I can't go back to the way it was with both numbers and GV as my VM app.
Idk if I'm missing a setting somewhere, or what, but those are my issues with it.

I don't know how to force it, but I signed up to be notified of the changeover to sprint about two weeks ago....

This may be (yet another, and I apologize) stupid question, but how do you get the vm without the app installed? It never seems to transcribe them in a way that I can understand the messages...
Is there any real benefit to using this integration? I've been using google voice for voicemail for like a yr now anyway...... if you port your GV # over, do you lose ur sprint #? Visa versa?

With the email it sends you a link to the Voice site where you can listen to it if you want. Downside is that it only plays on the external speaker.

So I would like to be able to use my CM10 SMS app to send messages using my google voice number. Is this possible? For example, now I have it set up so google voice messages go to my SMS app but they show up with a funky number instead of my contacts number AND if I send a reply it uses my tmobile number instead of my google voice number. Is there a way to integrate them better?
Thanks!
Found this app several months ago and works like an absolute charm. Definitely worth the cash after the trial expires.

It's super unreliable and the developer has yet to get back to me.
Have you checked your Google Voice settings?
In the browser, after logging into Google Voice, go to settings.
Under "Calls" look for "Caller ID (outgoing)" and make sure "Display my Google Voice number" is selected.
Not sure why this option is under "Calls" but its clearly says "Note: this setting currently only applies to text messages; calls will be included soon."
Oh, and make sure under "Phones" in Settings you select "Receive text messages on this phone" under the forwarding phone you want text messages to come to.
This should clear up the "Funky" number your get..

I still get the funky number but at least now I can send from my Google Voice number.
GV SMS Integrator works great on older platforms. I believe it was said that it *might* work on CM builds for N4. Definitely does not work with stock N4 JB. Not sure if GoSMS would work.
The free trial version will nag you on every received message, but it will continue working. Definitely annoying enough to buy/uninstall.
Worked great on the HTC Sensation. Had it setup so it was completely seamless and transparent. No icon in the notification bar or popups etc.
Are you fixed on the stock SMS app, or do you just not like the GV app?
There are probably some other GV SMS apps now. I know Talkatone built it into their app, but that might not be to your liking..
When an SMS comes in with a funky number, I add it to the person's contacts entry with a custom tag of "GVoice", then I use the stock Messaging app to send SMS to them using that number. But until I learn a person's GVoice number, I have to use the Google Voice app to send SMS if I want it to come from my Google Voice number.
I just use the GV app for my texting instead of the built in messaging app. I wish Google with fix this and come up with better integration and allow group SMS and MMS to work properly. Even if they went to my gmail would be better than not getting anything.
GV integrator worked fine for me with GO SMS but I wasn't getting notifications. I have read in a couple of places that the developer has not been replying to people latley. The idea of the App is genius but needs a lot of developmental work.

I am in need of GV Integration to work as well. The developer seemed to have abandoned the app and I don't know of any alternatives to route google voice to stock SMS or GoSMS with working notifications. Is there anything that we can do? Is there a place that we can suggest someone work on a similar app?
I bought GV integration, but I would buy another working app in a heartbeat if it were available to me.

Not sure what rom you're running but if you replace your stock mms app with this one (which came from AOKP) notifications should work with the GV SMS integrator app. You'll have to place it in /system/apps. Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot. This version of MMS works well with the GV SMS integrator. I've been banging my head against the wall trying to get this to work because the native GV application is piss poor. I cannot believe how amazingly laggy it is on my N4, and I have no idea why there is no option to cache messages. I was shocked when I discovered how much better the iPhone version of GV is.

Glad it was of use to you! I completely agree with you about the Google voice native app. I really wish the developer of gv integrator hadn't abandoned the project. That's the only thing that's keeping me from spending the $5 on buying the full version.

Yeah, if I could reply to a message through the native notification pop up I would totally give this guy the $5. But it's a steep price for a half baked solution. I just keep hitting cancel when the notification to buy pops up.

Internet and voice not working at the same time

After unlocking bootloader, twrp, and root, I lost voice over Internet feature. I can't surf Internet and talk at the same time. Can someone please help me, plz?

Enhanced 4g LTE selected in cellular settings ?
Option 2 try this quote from droid life
In order to enable the setting on your phone, head into the dialer and type in *#*#4636#*#*. When you hit that last *, your phone will jump into the hidden settings menu. Choose “Phone info” and then scroll down until you see an option for “TURN ON VOLTE PROVISIONED FLAG.” Tap that and then reboot your phone (I had to reboot twice for some reason to get it to work). Once booted, head into your phone’s regular settings menu, tap on “More” under “Wireless & networks,” then “Cellular networks.” You should now see an option for “Enhanced 4G LTE Mode” and it should be toggled on.

Go to My Verizon. About half way down, next to the widget that shows the minuets used or data used, it says Add Features To Your Plan. Click on it. Select FREE PRODUCTS. Advanced Calling 1.0 is the first option.
I was able to go into the hidden phone menu via *#*#4636#*#*. I then selected “TURN ON VOLTE PROVISIONED FLAG." After a reboot the Cellular network settings shows "Enhanced 4G LTE Mode" turned on.
I have a company paid business line and no access to MyVerizon. Do I need to have Verizon turn on Advanced Calling for this to work?

yes you do need to add it via my-verizon no other way or by calling verizon.
Best way to test if you have it enabled is by calling someone who has HD VOICE on Verizon or if you call someone and are able to browse internet I think.

I did not need to have access. I also have a paid business account, and am not an Account Manager. It would be easy for me to get ahold of the manager or become a manager myself, but it turns out I needed neither.
Try this: call customer service (the number I called was 1-800-837-4966), enter your phone number when asked, then press 1 for wireless services, etc. You will be transferred to the automated system, then press 3 for technical support. It will ask you to state your problem. You need to say "Voice over LTE" (I tried Advanced Calling, HD Voice, etc., but it didn't work). You will then be transferred, yet again, to an automated system that will ask you to enter your phone number only. I was not asked for the last four of the social or employer ID number. I entered my phone number and the system enabled Advanced Calling 1.0 for me. Once I was done, I checked settings, and the "Enhanced 4G LTE Mode" was checked and I retained LTE during calls.
Hope that works for you, let me know if it doesn't. Your process may be a little different, but hopefully you can follow those directions step-by-step to get your internet and voice going.
So, the *#*#... + HD Calling on My Verizon worked for me. But ever since then, I can't get Google Voice to be recognized as my voicemail. It keeps saying "this user has a mailbox that has not been setup", or whatever.
I went through all obvious courses from there - uninstall/re-install Google Voice. Swap from Google Voice to Carrier and back as voicemail provider. Restore from my last known good backup. And even taking of the HD Voice from myverizion.
Anyone else have this issue, or better yet, have a possible solution they could lob my way?

Mine voicemail quit working after I switched to HD calling. It reverted to "no voicemail setup". I had to go back and run the *71, *90 and *92 commands to get it working.

I got this from the Google Voice Forum. It worked for me.
"If you are having trouble configuring Google Voice as your voicemail service on Verizon you can make the switch manually by dialing all three of these activation codes:
*71[Your Google Voice number] -- This turns on Conditional Forwarding, which should transfer calls to your Google Voice number when your Verizon phone is busy or unanswered after 3 to 6 rings.
*90[Your Google Voice number] -- This turns on Busy Transfer, which transfers all calls that would hear a busy signal to your Google Voice number.
*92[Your Google Voice number] -- This turns on No Answer Transfer, which transfers all calls unanswered after 3 to 6 rings to your Google Voice number.
To Deactivate the Call Forwarding, dial *73 [Send]
To Deactivate the Busy Transfer, dial *900 [Send]
To Deactivate the No Answer Transfer, dial *902 [Send]"
I hope this helps you.

I have no idea how to enable it on AT&T though this is mainly for Verizon.
That's how US on Verizon enable it. When you place a call does it go back to H+ or LTE while calling?

it basically mean that phone will enable the Enhanced 4G LTE option. It should be set to ON by default but with Verizon you need to activate it via my-verizon
Yes. When I make a call, it switches to H+. On the AT&T site, I found this:
"if you are having difficulties placing or receiving HD Voice calls, you may want to check the settings on your device to determine if HD Voice service is turned on.
Android VoLTE capable devices
Tap*Settings*then*Networks*then*Mobile Networks*thenEnhanced 4G LTE Mode.Confirm setting is in the*ON*position."

The problem is that "enhanced 4G LTE" setting isn't on my phone.
I called AT&T and confirmed that my area has HD voice/VoLTE enabled. I checked my apn and is the one that AT&T uses for volte. I find it odd that I'm not finding the same settings available as those on Verizon.

You're a genius, It worked perfectly! The only other step I had to add was to go to the Voice website settings after I completed those three steps, and deactivate then reactivate my voicemail. Real easy. Took 2 minutes and Voice finally works on my line again after the whole Advanced Calling debacle I went through.
