Heres how to install:
1. go here to register:

click on the residential tab.
2. Get the app here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/274146939/PF_VMPLUS_Windows_Current.cab.html
(this is free but difficult to find, at least it was for me.)
3. Install the cab to the sdcard (not to the internal memory. voicemails will eat up space.)
4. open the Phonefusion app and go to option>settings>Activate FVM+
5. Give it a few seconds and let it do its thing and then it should work.

Well, it's not free anymore. =/

I have it but there is no good app for it... i hate checking everying on the mobile web browser.

youmail.com is just GR8!!! Try it, you can set filters, block any number you want, even set "recordings" of your choice to any number that calls you. Much better than Fusion and anything else. Did i say ; it is FREE??

This is not a Visual Voicemail Application as much as a service + Website. The Website that would display the Voicemail messages does not load correctly on my Wizard with TNT (19199.1.0.0).
YouMail although a good solution for some does not meet the needs of those looking for an app.

Yeah I found a coupon code on Retail Me Not to make the Individual plan free (Phone Fusion at Retail Me Not). However, the fact remains, that it's a service much like (read: exactly like) Google Voice and not an app (only).

These look interesting. I'm using mVisualVoicemail (http://www.motionapps.com/product/mvisualvoicemail/) which of course requires your voicemail to be forwarded to an email account first. If you can't do that, this program is useless.
Is there any way in WM6.1 or WM6.5 to make all the Voicemail notifications and links launch a program instead of dialing voicemail? Ever since I started using visual voicemail, I've come to notice how often I get notifications and convenient links to dial my voicemail, and I just wish I could set it to launch mVisualVoicemail instead.

Clearing up confusion
I dont know about you guys but just to clarify:
PhoneFusion is free. PhoneFusion uses an app. PhoneFusion did not assign me a new number. PhoneFusion has, as best I can tell, just replaced my Tmo voicemail.
I signed up online with no money given or agreed to. I downloaded the app given a link that was forwarded by text when I signed up. The app is just like a carrier's vvm except it loads a little slower. It loads your contacts automatically at every start, which is the small slow part.
Ive had youmail before on my old Blackberry (don't stone me) and although there are apps for some phones, it is no better or worse than Phonefusion besides the subcscriber login page online... which I would think we would never want to use day to day anyway.
All in all I can give PF a recommend. Check it out. The cool part (believe me with all the crap i went through to get youmail to work) is that you just push ACTIVATE and it changes all your settings to forward your calls.
****Sprint users.... trust me stay away. Your screwed on VVM. YouMail costed me 30 a month bc sprint charges for every forwarded call.

I think i'll stick with youmail. Hopefully they'll come up with a windows mobile app for this.

Sprint users can use PhoneFusion without charge. You just have to call up and ask for call forwarding on no answer which is free. Regular call forwarding "unconditional call forwarding" costs you $0.20 per call.
When I called up they told me it would cost $0.20, I told them it should not, only unconditional does, and they went back and told me I was correct.
I'm using PhoneFusion as above today and it seems to be pretty decent and the app works well. Whether I will miss the easy click and you're in voicemail with tf3d, I'm not sure yet
I'm a TP2 user...

Do you find that the 'new voicemail' icon appears at the top of the screen (indicating there's a new message waiting) when using Phone Fusion? (I'm not getting that, though it works otherwise). I'm on TMO USA (but I would have thought this was independent of carrier)

Well, I thought I would share my experiences with this app. I was wanting to get some VVM on my Tilt2, so I downloaded this app based upon this thread. Once I realized it was implementing some call forwarding, I kinda put the brakes on finishing the install.
Then I started having people report there was an odd disconnect error instead of going to my voicemail. Seems it partially setup the call forwarding, but since I did not completely install it it wrecked my regualr voicemail.
Anyway, I think I have it sorted out. I had to go intot he setup again, and 'Disable' the VVM. Now, when installing there was a clear warning about deactivating the service prior to any installation, but since I never completely installed I thought I was safe.

Hey Kev...you know you can go into "phone" under personal settings, and change your forwarding settings from there? It just reads your current settings from the network, and lets you change and update them from your phone...you can check there to make sure they all got put back the way they should

Does Google Voice use Data or Minutes?

Just wondering if anyone can help me out with this one. When I call out, or receive a call using my google voice number instead of my at&t number, does that go towards data usage, or mobile minutes. I'm just curious as I'm thinking of switching to t-mobile, and if it's using data, this obviously gives me a little more play, when choosing a plan to go with. why pay for a thousand minutes when you can just pay for unlimited data?

talking through google voice uses minutes, unless you have a myfaves plan or equivalent, in which case you can add the GV number to your calling circle and essentially get unlimited minutes. GV however does not use SMS Texts because SMS sent out through GV are sent through data.

You can't get MyFaves plans anymore. Plus I read somewhere that Google is now cycling through numbers now, so the number you add on your MyFaves (if you have it grandfathered) won't necessarily be the one that's going to be called when you used GV.
The only way to really get unlimited minutes over data is if you have a Gizmo5 account, and they're not accepting new members.

Incorrect. Even if they were to change your call-through number, there is still a way to ALWAYS get free calls:
Log into google.com/voice and call from there. It will first call your cell phone number from your Google Voice number, which will of course never ever change! Free calling with myFaves, completely unstoppable!

Paul, you're right. I didn't think of that; unless Google decides to call you from a different number, then yes you can get unlimited calls only if you already have the MyFaves plan.

I have a gizmo5 account, how do i get unlimited minutes with it ?

I just use the app GV. Have it call my phone back with my Google Voice number.

I dont like the fact that it uses minutes instead of data, GV mobile on the iphone uses data i am pretty sure..
id also like to see a full version of skype come out for android to make unlimited calls over data like the iphone as well..

Unless they changed the functionality of the app in the last 6 months, Skype lite uses minutes, iSkoot as well. If you want true VOIP fring is one choice. There is another in the Dream forums that is a generic SIP application.

No, I am talking about the app in the market that is called "GV". It can be set up to make a phone call by having google voice return a call to you and showing your GV number instead of the persons you are trying to call.

How do you think google voice return your call? Google voice is not VoIP. If you are curious, check out VoIP and SIP on Wikipedia. Those are the ones that will use data.
Google did acquire a VoIP company a few months back but VoIP is not rolled out yet. Even with VoIP, you need proper compression and the latency is too high for proper communication even on 3G (at times). How do I know? I tested it. One of the things I consult/sell is VoIP soultions.
If you want VoIP though, and skype is POS at this time, I suggest getting fring. It will interface with VoIP/SIP servers, skype, AIM etc.

He wasn't saying that this is VoIP. Just that you can use this method of getting GV to call you with your GV # to use MyFaves for free calling (which I actually said was possible in post #7 above :

Note this method is only necessary IF AND ONLY IF Google changes your GV call-out number, which so far they haven't shown any indication that they're going to do. As long as you have that number in your MyFaves, like I do, you can simply open contacts, hit call, and it'll automatically call via GV, which is free for me since I have that number in my MyFaves. No need to do the above unless Google changes the call-out number. This is just a method to prove that they will never ever be able to get rid of MyFaves free calling via Google Voice!

Even though the Dev says he no longer supports it, he updated not to long ago and is talking of supporting again. Just easier to use this app than have to open browser and then select who I want to call.

N900 has built in skype support, and they have no issues with using it on 3g....

Voip on android phone is now within our grasp MUHAHAHAHA!!!

Google Voice isn't in beta anymore and anyone can sign up for free... Doesn't this already provide us with VOIP using the Google Voice Application on the Market?

No, though you are correct that it already works on wifi and 3g, i believe he was talking about a VOIP application from Google that can work on both of those. Currently GV is NOT a voip service,ll it is is a fancy forwarder (a very useful forwarder) it still takes minutes to call people. We are hoping that they will eventually convert it into a voip client like the gmail client just did explained in the article.

GV VOIP on the Android headset would change the whole telephone industry. I'd imagine big companies have been worrying about this for a while. Data rates would have to be seriously reconsidered. Unlimited data in the US, if a GV VOIP integration was made, would explode. This is why Verizon has locked down the Skype app to their voice network.
The last I read before this release was that Google was trying to nail down the mic/speaker driver interactions with the browser itself. They had almost abandoned the project. That's where those fancy Chrome/Mozilla plugins come in. With CM's mod, I tried visiting gmail with desktop as the user agent, but without those plugins it's useless.

Hey guys,
Not really a Nexus question, but the dialer locks up my system when I try to make a call from it. Is the dialer a java program that isn't playing nice with my Vista system?
Any advice on how to fix this?

This has been rolled out to me (in Canada) and it works great!

sure, well part of it, if you are out in the middle of no where and only hada wifi (no carrier signal) you could still send/ recieve google voice txts, but you would not recieve any calls since the calls are still routed through your carrier since GV is not a voip service, just a VERY fancy (and useful) call forwarder.

Looks like there's some confusion as to what Google Voice is versus what Gmail Calling is.
Google Voice is absolutely nothing but a call forwarding service. The instant that the call connects (ie you the other person's phone ringing), you are 100% using your cell phone carrier's signal and 0 data. Zero. None. Zilch. No VOIP whatsoever. Google Voice simply connects you to the other person, that's it. You're still using your cell phone's minutes.
The only data is the initial 3 seconds between the instant you hit Call and the instant the other person's phone starts ringing. It uses data to connect the call through Google Voice's servers. So sure, that 3 seconds before the call connects can use 3G or Wifi.
Gmail Calling on the other hand, is 100% VOIP. You call through your PC, using your DSL connection, Cable, Satellite, Starbucks Wifi, 56K modem, etc. 100% data. It uses 0 cell phone minutes, because obviously your PC has no idea what cell phone carrier you have, or if you even have a phone at all.
Google Voice and Gmail Calling = two completely different products.
Now, my question is:

Good explanation, I cant imagine why it is taking google so long to get VOIP going, Gizmo5 had it all up and working it should only be minor changes. This leads me to believe there is something more going on like the carriers would revolt against google if every android phone only needed a data plan. Honestly the entire carrier industry would be turned on its head if google goes VOIP.

That may be part of it, but I cant imagine the FCC EVER allowing that deal to go through. Have you even read it?! Its totally BS. The FCC has to have some line drawn in the sand that says "this point an no farther". There needs to be a shift in the way the internet is treated.

[TIP] Google Voice VOIP

I searched the forums but didn't find an updated guide for sending and receiving free VOIP calls using Google Voice so either:
A. It's common knowledge and everyone knows already.
B. No one gives a crap about free calling.
or
C. I've finally found a way to give back to the community.
Apps needed:

Summary:
It used to be a real PITA to get VOIP and Google Voice to play nice on your phone but now with a new feature included in the latest beta of Sipdroid it's virtually automagic.
Prerequisite:
To make things happen really smooth and seamless you'll need a working Google Voice account as well as the official app on your phone before proceeding to Step 1.
*Edit: Gtalk must be set as the only "Forward to" phone on the Google Voice settings webpage to prevent the "normal" VZW voice call from killing the 3g Sipdroid data connection.
Sipdroid Set Up
Step 1:
Install and run the latest version of Sipdroid. (2.0 or higher)

Step 2:
Press the "New PBX linked to my Google Voice" button.
Step 3:
Create a name and password for your free PBXes account, supply your Google Voice account information and press the "Create" button.
If all the info you entered jives on the PBX side you'll receive confirmation and everything will be good to go. A green dot will appear in the top left corner of the notification bar to let you know it's "Registered".
Congratulations, you can now receive free VOIP calls to your Google Voice number through Sipdroid.

As you may or may not know all incoming calls from the USA to GV are free, but there is a charge for outgoing calls. So the trick here is to turn your outgoing call into a free incoming call. This is made really simple by installing a handy little app called GVoice Callback.
GVoice Callback Set Up
Step 1:
Install and run the latest version of GVoice Callback
Step 2:
Supply your Google Voice account information and press the save button
Step 3:
Select "Google Talk" as your callback number and press the save button.
Step 4:
Select "When to use Callback" (always, never, ask, etc)
I personally leave it set as "Always" and toggle it on or off using the home screen widget.
So what happens now?
If you have Sipdroid registered and GV Callback running whenever you make a call from the standard Android dialer, GV Callback will intercept the call and forward it to your Google Voice number. Google Voice makes the call to the person you dialed and makes a call to you via Sipdroid (free incoming). As soon as you answer with Sipdroid the calls are patched together. Sipdroid can also be set to auto answer the callback so you don't have to.
There are several options in both apps to personalize how you want them to function for you that are beyond the scope of this tip.

Also VOIP quality can be very spotty at times so I wouldn't rely on it as my only form of telephony.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe I remember Google making GVoice calls free throughout 2011 (it was originally only until December 2010) so I don't think the second half is necessary at this moment.
The advantage, though, is that if you set this up as you say it doesn't appear you'll be using any minutes because it'll all be going over data. Nicely done! This seems like a great solution for those about to go over their minutes on their monthly plan.
Any word on call quality over 3G? I remember a friend telling me that calling from my laptop on WiFi sounded pretty awful but this was when GVoice first let you make free calls to landlines.

For some reason when I try to receive a call through 3g it shuts of and the green light turns red. Is verizon blocking VOIP? Works good through wifi
[Edit]Nevermind not working for wifi either.... I turn on airplane mode and then wifi but don't receive any calls

Not sure why it doesn't work on wifi for you. I've never had it not work on wifi in airplane mode or not. Sorry
As for not working on 3G: if you have Google Voice set up to forward calls to Google Talk and your mobile number the Voice call to your mobile number will disconnect your data connection. Unfortunately AT&T is right about something, you can't talk and surf (data) at the same time on Big Red.
FWIW, I just duplicated the 3g condition you described by adding my mobile number as a forward to phone. Light turned from Green to Red, but after removing my mobile number I was able to receive a call.

That's cool, but whenever I try to make a call through Sidroid without using GV Callback I get the "you don't have enough $$$ for this call" message. I never get it using Callback.

Ok, started messing with some setting in the sip app and got it working perfect...Also tried using it while on airplane mode while on wifi to make 100% sure it was using only data and it worked perfect........ Thank you

That's because Google Voice by itself still uses your Provider's network which count against your monthly minutes.
This method will work on activated phones in airplane mode over wifi, deactived phones and even Android tablets. Try that with Google Voice by itself with no Sip Client running and you'll see this...

I haven't tried it on a bad esn but if you can bypass the activation screen and get Google Talk to work over wifi I don't see why it wouldn't work.
It uses your gmail address through G Talk.

Google voice will allow you to send and receive free text messages already. You would of course have to tell all your friends to use your GV number instead.

I was under the impression that google voice allowed you t send and receive all usa calls..so in order for me to use this ovet wifo (in airplane mode) i have to use gv in conjunction with sipdroid?

Yes...unless you can find a hacked version of google voice that will work over wifi.
I did read somewhere though that Gingerbread had a Sip stack baked in which should make Sipdroid unnecessary.

I'm hoping using your GV number as your Sprint number is free, as that's what I'm planning on doing.

Got mine too and am using my sprint number as GV. Less hassle, more folks know it, etc.
I did NOT choose option 2.
No fee for me.

That's very odd. I just started using my Sprint number as my GV number this morning. I wasn't charged anything either.

For those of you that are getting the $20 charge - wait about an hour and try again. That screen should go away. I have read that Google got ahead of themselves and your account had not been updated yet.

Ok this was odd.. I logged on to google voice today and as soon after I logged on I had this pop up asking me if I wanted to port the phone number so I did and then no 20 bucks fee now..

Ported my existing Voice number to Sprint. Loving not needing the Voice app but am having issues receiving MMS sent to my GV number. I know Voice doesn't support MMS but I thought with the integration it would still come into my phone throught the stock text app. Anyone else who uses their GV number had any success or failure with this? Sent to my regular Sprint number they work fine.

I also had trouble with txt and mms sent to my phone I installed GV and I was getting the SMS on GV app and the MMS on Handcent.
Which honestly was annoying to me.. so needless to say I switched back and left GV

I got the invite on Thursday, and immediately switched my Sprint # to my GV #. I have two issues that bother me, but aren't deal breakers.
1. The mms/sms issue spoken of above. On top of that, when I first enabled my number, sms would not go to my native sms app, but only to GV. Mms would go to the messaging app. There is a setting to change this, a guy over at AF helped me to figure it out, so now the sms goes to both the sms and GV app, and along with that comes double notifications, which I can't turn off because it will disable voicemail notifications as well.
2. When I answer a call, I must press the answer call button on screen, then open the keypad and press 1 to allow the call. Kind of a pita, but Now I can't go back to the way it was with both numbers and GV as my VM app.
Idk if I'm missing a setting somewhere, or what, but those are my issues with it.

Go to Settings > Calls > Turn "Call Screening" off

This may be (yet another, and I apologize) stupid question, but how do you get the vm without the app installed? It never seems to transcribe them in a way that I can understand the messages...

Is there any real benefit to using this integration? I've been using google voice for voicemail for like a yr now anyway...... if you port your GV # over, do you lose ur sprint #? Visa versa?

With the email it sends you a link to the Voice site where you can listen to it if you want. Downside is that it only plays on the external speaker.
