i dont have a clue! maybe an application that messed up the device? try using the device without any extra applications for some time and see if the problem appears again.
or try duplicating the problem. i hope its not a hardware problem!

black line across my screen too
i thought i'd post this here, i've the device for 5 months now, and just today suddenly after a soft reset a black line appears across my screen 1mm in thickness, just as roachie has described. and honest to God, i'd rather send it to HTC and get it checked than hard rest and hope it doesn't come back. any thoughts...

My guess is that their first troubleshooting techniques is to hard reset your phone anyways. If hard reset fixes it then why should they spend money out of their own pockets if it's a software problem?
just performed a hard reset, didnt work. i'm taking it to HTC no other choice.
just received my phone back. they changed the LCD MODULE.
and to mu surprise no sound comes out of the ear piece, i can only hear the person i'm calling across the speaker or headphone, so i took it back today, and was promised a new unit in a few days.....
For some reason my HD thinks that there are headphones plugged into it permnanently when there is nothing in the slot! any ideas?
I have done a hard reset just now, but still thinks there is something there!
My guess would be the port itself is actually faulty and is registering headphones which aren't really there. can you see into the port enough to check there isn't any debris in there?

My thoughts exactly, phoned HTC and their experts didn't know, had never come across this error, im fairly sure its a hardware fault, not software otherwise a hard reset would have been the cure.
I have also tried putting the headset in the socket and pulling it back out to see if it makes a difference and to no avail.

Try having a read through the wiki pages. This should hopefully answer most future queries. Any other, just ask away!!
Welcome to the mayhem!!!
I had the same problem with my Trinity and it had to go off to HTC, they replaced the main board. Wasn't gone for too long but was a pain in the neck!

Would doubt it. Sounds like a hardware problem which cleaning wouldn't be able to fix

Youll never believe it, I have left it for the afternoon and it's fixed itself... great!
i had the same problem with my hd...turns out some moisture got inside. so i took out the batter, sd card and sim...let it dry for a couple hours (even used a hairdryer). once i put everything back together it was working fine.

TC,
What's wrong with your camera? Is it physically broken? I doubt you'd have to donate just to get help. Just post your problem.
Cheers.
I did post my problem. I got a few people who say they have the same problem but no one has a fix. I just cant get the program to initialize

I noticed your using MIRI ROM 6.5 Manila 2.5
Have you tried another ROM?
Or go back to 6.5 2.1 see if camera still has probs
Manila 2.5 does have known bugs and is not perfect yet
Worth atry then you will know if its the camera or ROM
the problem started with duttys wm6.1 rom with manila 2.1, I also tried a few wm 6.5 roms with manila 2.1
Have you tried to flash an Official ROM? Or install a new camera cab?
D'rath
yes I have tried to do both of those. I even tried the stock blackstone camera

You said that the camera gives you an error message that says "Failed to initialize..... etc..."? Did it have anything in there about a certificate error or component missing error?
I know this may be a long shot but have you ever dropped the phone or gotten it wet? If so then you may have jarred something inside the phone or fried an essential circuit for the camera to function.
I would suggest flashing a stock ROM including radio and see if that helps at all.
I have never had a problem with my HD's camera short of it being really laggy under poor lighting conditions. I'll keep a lookout for a fix for this.

I am not the 1st owner but it shows no sign of watter damage. It did get set down next to a tool magnet once. I have never dropped it.
I did take it all the way back to a stock SPL and the newest stock rom, didn't help. I have had to diferent people tell me they have the same issue and once more I found who posted before me about the same issue. He had a fix but it didnt work for me.
Last night I did a full tear down and see no damage to any of the parts but that doesnt say much

That is really weird... I've personally never had a "Failed to initialize" error before. Usually it is just a certificate error that I get after I screw up a ROM build and it's never related to the camera.
Since you already restored the stock SPL and the whole 9 yards, I strongly suggest contacting HTC's repair department and see if they have any advice or can repair the device for a fee. I have a good friend who dropped his Touch HD in a glass of milk and the phone worked fine afterwards but he was unable to use the actual Touch Screen as the Digitizer was toast. He sent it in to HTC to have it repaired and if I remember correctly, received it back yesterday, like new.
Good luck to you man, hope you can get it figured out or are able to have the device fixed if it turns out to be a physical problem and not software related.
Best of luck,
Dan.
really? even though it is an HD in USA? Did he call the HTC in the US?
Hello all and thanks in advance for the help.
I just got a refurb Hero from Sprint a couple weeks ago. I Rooted with Z4Root and started trying out Roms. I had just went from CM 6.2 to 6.1. Had everything working fine until my screen would stop coming out of hibernate mode. I would have to reset the phone to get the screen back on. It has gradually gotten worse (over the course of one day). Now when I reset the phone I might get the screen to turn on 1 out of 40 times, but the screen is now all messed up even when it does turn on now. I cant figure anything out other than to answer a call because I know where the slider is supposed to be on the screen for answering calls, so if someone calls I cant see anything I just swipe the screen and it answers fine.
Any ideas what might be causing this issue? Would it be a harware issue?
Thanks again
Yea I would try a different download you might have gotton a bad one. Also you should try a different rom after a full wipe. If that didn't work then I would say its a hardware issue.

Thanks for the reply. I did nandroid back to every previous backup I had. Now I cant get the screen to turn on at all so, Im guessing its hardware. taking it to Sprint Today, we'll see what they say.
Thanks again
Yup, They replaced the screen and I'm back in business!
Swwet, glad to hear it man now enjoy more xda

I was just wondering if there was something to do with installing different roms that could have cause the screen to go out? I am thinking not, but I am new to the whole rooting and rom-ing thing. Is it possible that something I did caused the screen to go out?
Na I doubt it. Hardware usually is the manufacturers fault or user error. Unless you droped it, banged it up real bad or flashed a gsm radio your good. And a screen issue such as yours is most def not a rom issue. The rom dev's on here are solid. And XDA is a well known and respected site. If you need any help with anything just let me know.

cool thanks for the response. I was just worried that maybe I messed it up somehow. Glad that was likely not the case
phone is 1 week old was running beautiful until battery started to get a little hot. i was like ok nothing to be alarmed about put it in my pocket. does have a silicon case on it.
20 min late take it out and my screen has turned white. so i do all different things to reset it, take battery out for 30 min let it cool down and try again still white screen...
i have never dropped the phone or anything that may have made the lcd crash/loose its pixels.
i know the phone is working like normal as i swipe and went into the camera and volume up its just the screen/lcd WHITE?
so my question is what the hell is going on.
do i change the battery?
do i replace the lcd?
i cant re-set the phone cant see anything on it.
here is a video i found on youtube have the exact same screen and problem
search this in youtube "Galaxy S2 White screen" ..
thanks for any information you can provide.
and please dont say do i have warranty or take it to samsung.
Maybe it overheated the graphics chip, thereby damaging the video output.
it only got slightly warm, it wouldnt have got that hot at all to overheat.
Have you tried connected it to your PC and flashing either a different rom or reflashing the stock rom with ODIN?
That's the first thing I'd try.
Take to service centre dont mess with roms .
