touchscreen works when it wants to

hey i need a bit of a hand here guys 8i just picked up a second hand wing however the touchscreen seems to work when it wants to so I did a hard reset thinking it may have been software rlated not i can't get past the welcom screen. Any advice

create a file named "welcome.not" (just a empty file!) - copy it to the SD-card - reboot ...

it kinda depends i have not been able to get it to work on the WM 6.1 roms

ok question I left it off since my last post turned it on just now and the touch screen works but it is odd one tap may work the next won't but if i keep repeatedly tapping it will register them this is after a hard reset so i assume that this is a touchscreen hardware issue?

it might be the cable is loose call tmo and they might send 1 to u for like 9.99 for shipping iv done that many times but make sure u backup your contacts they will make u do a hard reset lol

i will look into that i opedn up the phone and checked and they are all tight so i will try giving them a call

Hi, I have the same issue. What cable are you referring too? Can you please post a pic or if there is a pic somewhere could you link it here? Also, if you don't have warranty on your phone, than you cant get the cable? I am a novice at this please excuse me.

ORANGE SPV M5000 red line on screen :(

I have a ORANGE SPV M5000 for some 9 months now or so,i bought it new decoded from some other network,and i'm very very happy and satisfied with it and all the software that comes on regular basis for it
But when i bought it one thing i didn't realise at all,i saw it later home but then it was too late. For refund or anything ofc. I got used to it for all this time but anyway i would like to know what it is,would be nice if it's fixable,but i doubt that The thing is : on the screen,there is this red vertical line from top to bottom,in the left half of the screen.it's mostly visible on black backgrounds,not so much on other colors. does anyone maybe know,is the screen ****ed up,or maybe a software mess while decoding the phone ? And if so,is it in any way fixable. At least i would be at peace,knowing why that is. On it it's the original wm5,i never had guts to try upgrade to wm 6. Cuz my fiancee lives in anither country still and i use IM+ over gprs almost 24/7 to be in touch,so i can't risk to lose that lifesaving option.

not sure but i guess its a problem with the screen, you should check the cables that connect the screen to the mb, maybe that fixes the problem...

Thank you for your very very fast reply. As soon as i saw it,i opened my PPC carefully and checked there the connector stuff,but with no changes,so at least i know it is not that. Thank you very much again for your quick help
First time opening,but very easy to open the PPC,not tricky at all like it was on my old SE P800,almost breaking it while opening
So i guess,maybe the screen is defected,but it was new and like that from the first day,so maybe the only thing possible is flashing the UNI ? Any ideas still from anyone ?

sorry, never had the problem, but i don't know what else could cause such a fault...

And still after so much time,i have the red line
Nothing changed,only that in the meantime i flashed my UNI,which til posting this the first time i didn't do. I flashed the UNI i think 50 times since then
But still i am curious,if maybe anyone has an idea what that can be and is it fixable.

htc hd broken display

I'm very disappointed, I'm having problems again with my htc hd. At first it blocked and it wouldn't want to turn on. I sent it back twice under warranty with the same problem and in the end they replaced the motherboard.
I thought that now that practicly i have a new phone i won't have any problems with it. But surprise! The display just got crazy. When i touch the screen in a spot it activates in a completely different spot. It's the same thing on the entire screen. Check out the video.
Anybody had this problem? Oh, by the way the phone didn't managed to fall from somewhere, or get hit by something or anything else.
PS: Next step: htc snap. No touch, no worries. I hope so.

Could be that your screen alignment is not setup properly. Have you tried setting this up?

had EXACTLY the same issue. left my touch for an hour and when I cam back to it it was like that.
I sent it back to HTC and the first time they cancelled my warrenty because it had "illegal" software on it. I had Hardspl on there, nothing else.so when got it back I returned it to its origanol configuration and sent it back again. Its interesting you got a new motherboard in yours as they claimed that was the fault in mine and told me it was BER (beyond economical repair)
I am not going to accept their bull%$$^ and if it comes back again without repair i shall resend it again & again (cost me nothing) until either Carphone Warehouse replace it under warranty or HTC fix it under warranty. My phone was less tha 2 months old and NEVER been dropped or mishandled. It was in pristine condition

If you have removed everything illegal from phone, i.e. returned phone to original SPL and rom and then returned phone under warranty, they are obliged to fix it or send a replacement under warranty as your phone is only 2 months old. If they fail to comply I would threaten them with Standards agencies and Watchdog.

Thanks for the reply. The problem is that i can't get there. Is way to down and i practicly can't click it.

Couple ways:
1. Manual way by navigating to Start > Settings > System > Screen
2. By performing a hard reset. After you have performed a hard reset and rebooted device you should be prompted with a setup screen allowing you to align screen and then enter date/time.
Have you tried performing a hard reset?

I just did. Unfortunatelly the problem hasn't been fixed. The display isn't working good at all.
I guess i have nothing to do but to send it back under warranty again.

After your hard reset were you not able to screen align?

I had the same issue. Without any impact or misuse the screen started becoming misaligned. Re-aligning the screen would only work for a short time before it again went crazy - it gradually got worse until the phone was completely unusable.
It turned out to be hardware fault with the touch overlay. I sent it back and HTC repaired it under warranty.
Having searched a lot around the web, I think this is a fairly common fault.
The tricky part was doing anything with the phone when the screen doesn't work. e.g. removing the "illegal" software - hardspl and the cooked ROM. In the end I used some software called "EveryWAN remote support". This is free software that lets you operate the phone through your PC. You could try using this to get to the align screen. Good luck.

Update:
I sent it back again via CPW and they put a note on my file that although the software may have been "illegal" there is no way it could have caused the fault to the phone, I also restored it back to the origonal configuration so they could see it was a fault on the phone itself and not software.
Well, to cut a long story short HTC have accepted responsibilty and givenme an exchange unit and reintated my warranty so I am happy as Larry.
All I can say id dont give up on getting satidfaction out of HTC. in my opinion they have a duty of care to us as customers even if we put "illegal" software on our phone.

3. pressing "VolumeUP" and "VolumeDOWN" and "Touching the screen" all at the same time -- gets you to align screen.
ABOUT THE SCREEN PROBLEM:
judging by the problem you have it might be that some of your digitizer wires arent working (broken or not having a proper contact) -- if the problem started immediately after you got your HD back from service, - then it might be that the guys there broke a wire of digitizer or didnt attach the wires to its connector-- Digitizer has 4 wires who connect to device (if only 3 or less wires work-- incorrect screen response and no way to align it) .... (sory for the english but I dont know all the names of the stuff i wish to mention )
I suggest you to take it to service and explain them the problem and say that it might be the wires of digitizer , because of the last service!

oh and HTC Snap aint worth it- HD is best!!! you just had a bad model, which is one of thousands(you may consider yourself as a chosen one )

My display just stopped working. Completely. They changed the whole front part at warranty and now it works way faster while browsing it. It took 15 days to replace the part. Unfortunately I have other issues with the phone but I don't want to be off topic here.

I RMA mine due to black screen. After they returned the darn phone (after changing the bezel and motherboard - you would think it is as good as a new phone), Wifi and Bluetooth does not work. Gonna stick right beside the router or bluetooth set to detect...
I am going to condemn HTC soon....

I have this problem, it was just this week - christmas day onwards. It's random as to the problem being there.
Bought the HD from mobiles.co.uk without cancelling the insurance.
it will always work again for a short period if I manage to get to the align screen config.
I'm running the stock rom (never flashed)
I have done some TF3D changes. (background, icons, etc.)
It can randomly decide to work again, and then randomly not work.
found out the volumer control and tap screen shortcut to the align screen config, so that should help me get it back quicker.
It's like the lower down the screen I tap, the further away it is from what actually sows on the screen. the call home back end buttons dont work when it is not aligned.
I'm in the UK and the date of the insurance letter is 15th June 2009 on an 18 month contract with O2

I really need help with it.
I ended up ringing the landline phone, and possibly (almost certainly) waking up people in the house struggling to turn it off.
A solution is needed pronto.

i have same issue. texting is a pain in the ass now . the sreen seems to shift up by 2cm or something, very annoying.
i tried realigned the screen like 20 times, saw bit improvement but still not the same. maybe bring to shop for screen replacement.

My X1 died tonight - May it rest in peace...

My X1 died tonight do I may have dropped it one time to many, thusly the screen started to malfunction also the phone will not start anymore..
I have switched to my Symbian Samsung Phone as of 10 minutes ago.
Tomorrow I will put my old X1 in into the box which it came to this Earth and send it Vahalla.
I will post a video of it passing on Youtube tomorrow and post the link.

My condolences. My parents told me my last phone ran away. It happens ALL the time they said. I caught them flushing it down the toilet. It didn't run away at all. It was dead... DEAD!!!11!!!1!! *Sob*

Ohh sorry to hear that dude....I just got my phone up from a half dead state..I cant even think of dropping it...So next time when you get your HD2 never let it drop down, or else you will have to make a tribute video for that too...Dont drop the phone...

I killed my X1 tonight by deleting of TouchInput item in registry. After restart i saw just black screen with no loading
I pressed volume down and ON button,phone loaded in BOOT session.
Yeep,X1 still ALIVE
I downloaded new X1Blackstone x1.06 firmware and tryed to update firmware. Software said me\Connection Error!\
Wow////Dont Panic!!!
I loaded firmware and tryed to connect again. I reconnected twice in second.
Updating were started.Uhh....
FIRSTLY....if you killed your X1.....DONT PANIC !!! (read xda !! )

you could get good money for it as spare components anyway most of the case when phones die due dropping is because the some of the ic's becomemlose on board sometimes is just take 10 min to get it work again with a BGA rework station (what gonna happen to your computer if you take the cpu out)? as my boss would say nothing is inpossible...

I think my X1 is very sick.
The screen is not working like it should.....gives weird colors etc.
It felt in the snow last week....that same day it was constantly restarting and restarting whole day. Then about 1 week it worked just fine and now the screen is acting a bit weird....
I think at has to go to the repairman.....

Display Going crazy
Hi, I also have a problem with my xperia x1 display it doesnt work very good when I boot it up the display and the buttons bellow the display arent working, there is no light nothing, then I have to wait till the windows boots up and start pressing all the buttons (d-pad, call button etc.) so the display could start working, but there is another problem when I press the on/off button to switch the damn display off the backlight keeps working and the backlight of the keys its just so strange. I tried changing windows but its the same. Pls HELPPP!!!!!

Basicaly it 'died' wouldn't boot up past the htc screen even after numurous hard resets. After i left it for a while it booted up. Yesterday evening, i updated the rom to 1.66 and all seemed well.
Phone has been running fine all day, listening to music etc. On my way home from work i was watching a movie on coreplayer and it crashed the phone giving a loud audio buzz with a frozen picture. Took battery out a few times, but same result after playing movie again (tried a different film also). Played music on it, same buzz and crash
Then it wouldn't boot passed the htc screen, then i left it for a while and it booted up but it was still crashing. Hard reset it and now it seems fine.
WHAT THE HELL SHOULD I DO? spent all day putting my cabs back on and getting my settings right and passwords etc and now i'm back to square 1 again, i can't be dealing with this hassle.
driving me insane, do i just see how it goes again or take it back tomorrow, thing is carphone warehouse dont have any stock and it means waiting.
what would you guys do?

first off all check the atached pic..
second.. I think you need backup software like sprint backup..
If this problem keeps apearing reflash your device or return it back to HTC..

i know man, i stress out. I think i'll give it 1 more chance before i take it back, i have OCD, IN EVERYTHING lol

Hmm, sounds a bit iffy to me. I certainly wouldn't risk utting HSPL on it. Id be tempted to just take it back for a swap out straight away (assuming you are still in teh first few weeks warranty)

Would do the same, somethings strange with ur set and if u just bought it maybe u could get an easy swap.

i've had it 2 weeks tomorrow, is it possible one of the cabs is causing it?
here is what i put on it:
coreplayer
currency symbols for keyboard
duttys task manager
keypadledcontrol
markallreadinbox
spb backup
vovicheck-jamrecords (more tabs for home screen)
also it says (in duttys task manager) after a soft reset, the memory is 37%! is that normal? no apps running!!
i think i'm gonna take it back, makes sense, i know i can swap it, just got to wait for stock

Why don't you just run the device "bare bones" for a few days and see if the problems you are having re-occur?
If they do I agree with others that, given the age of the device, its easier to swap it out than hang onto it trying to fix a problem where you are not sure of the cause but could be hardware related.

True but trouble is i'm gonna be sH*t scared to do anything with it, treading on egg shells incase it all goes tits up again.
I love the phone, really hoping i don't get any more problems and that it wasn't me that caused it, i can't see that it was as the problem returned even after a hard reset and fresh flash to the new 1.66 rom.
Apart from a few tweaks i only want coreplayer on it and a satnav, so i'm not asking for much!

Probably just had a duff unit. I've had my HD2 for 2 weeks now, and I personally treat it like I stole it. I've flashed it to bits and stuck just about every other cab file on here. Then I go and mess with registry settings... She seems a lot more robust than my other WM devices.
Hope your replacement unit gives you many "a happy hour".
