This was my problem yesterday:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=634347&page=2
Basicaly it 'died' wouldn't boot up past the htc screen even after numurous hard resets. After i left it for a while it booted up. Yesterday evening, i updated the rom to 1.66 and all seemed well.
Phone has been running fine all day, listening to music etc. On my way home from work i was watching a movie on coreplayer and it crashed the phone giving a loud audio buzz with a frozen picture. Took battery out a few times, but same result after playing movie again (tried a different film also). Played music on it, same buzz and crash
Then it wouldn't boot passed the htc screen, then i left it for a while and it booted up but it was still crashing. Hard reset it and now it seems fine.
WHAT THE HELL SHOULD I DO? spent all day putting my cabs back on and getting my settings right and passwords etc and now i'm back to square 1 again, i can't be dealing with this hassle.
driving me insane, do i just see how it goes again or take it back tomorrow, thing is carphone warehouse dont have any stock and it means waiting.
what would you guys do?
first off all check the atached pic..
second.. I think you need backup software like sprint backup..
If this problem keeps apearing reflash your device or return it back to HTC..
i know man, i stress out. I think i'll give it 1 more chance before i take it back, i have OCD, IN EVERYTHING lol
Hmm, sounds a bit iffy to me. I certainly wouldn't risk utting HSPL on it. Id be tempted to just take it back for a swap out straight away (assuming you are still in teh first few weeks warranty)

i've had it 2 weeks tomorrow, is it possible one of the cabs is causing it?
here is what i put on it:
coreplayer
currency symbols for keyboard
duttys task manager
keypadledcontrol
markallreadinbox
spb backup
vovicheck-jamrecords (more tabs for home screen)
also it says (in duttys task manager) after a soft reset, the memory is 37%! is that normal? no apps running!!
i think i'm gonna take it back, makes sense, i know i can swap it, just got to wait for stock
Why don't you just run the device "bare bones" for a few days and see if the problems you are having re-occur?
If they do I agree with others that, given the age of the device, its easier to swap it out than hang onto it trying to fix a problem where you are not sure of the cause but could be hardware related.
WB
Yeah, returned the device today, will have my replacement on Tuesday. Got an ancient Nokia to get me till then, awful
good choice, and only 4 more days til mini christmas! hehe

True but trouble is i'm gonna be sH*t scared to do anything with it, treading on egg shells incase it all goes tits up again.
I love the phone, really hoping i don't get any more problems and that it wasn't me that caused it, i can't see that it was as the problem returned even after a hard reset and fresh flash to the new 1.66 rom.
Apart from a few tweaks i only want coreplayer on it and a satnav, so i'm not asking for much!
Probably just had a duff unit. I've had my HD2 for 2 weeks now, and I personally treat it like I stole it. I've flashed it to bits and stuck just about every other cab file on here. Then I go and mess with registry settings... She seems a lot more robust than my other WM devices.
Hope your replacement unit gives you many "a happy hour".

Hey guys,
Todays i dropped the XDA2 and it got some scratches near the bluetooth blue lamp. It looks a bit ugly, but i could only be thankful that it didn't die.
Few hours later, i charged the thing, took it off, left it for a while, grabbed it to use the calculater, finished using it, was closing the application, AND BOOOM, a hard reset for no reason.
Note : I was closing it through the battery pack X icon on the top.
Question is, what was that for, and am i to expect sudden death hard-resets in the future, and if so, what can i do.
Thanks in advance.
LOL!
"Hard-Reset For No Reason after it had dropped"
Yeah! Sure..
"Pasient died for no reason after surgery by drunk doctor with a leatherman"
Try getting it serviced..
If the problem doesn't get fixed, return it to the same service point..
Depending on the laws in your country, you might get a new one after a while..
Well i bought this one from england, so i don't know there is any way of returning it, that if the returning policy of O2 includes getting a hit on the ground.
The question remains, will it do this hard-reset again...?
Any one with similar experience.
hard reset
Mine has done involuntary hard reset 2x now. Both have been whilst using the Agend Fusion application, On the first occasion it wiped and disabled a 512 SD card (real pisser) and the second aload of backed up appointments notes etc that I'd just entered. However I did get the SD card before that too was wiped. Thats the good news.....
For you the bad news, since my original post I've had no response to my query. I've checked out the issue with Dev one the designers of agenda fusion cross checked the ROM version and all to no avail!!
Pisser I know, but it seems to me the only way to protect from this is regular backups to PC and use Xbackup to a seperate SD which you always carry.
If anybody can add anything more useful please advise.
Finally, you can take it back to o2 and ask for a replacement as the superficial damage didn't appear to have an immediate effect...
let me know how you get on with this I'm interested.
Pete
I'm not intending to return it O2, it's working, and maybe this problem of Hard-Reset was just due to that when it was dropped the battery got misplaced or that some dust got into it which cause that Hard-Reset.
That was 1, 2- I live in Egypt, and i have to send it all the way back to O2, not unless something really bad Happened, like it doing this hard-reset on it's one 2-3 times more.
A backup will be a VERY GOOD CHOICE. (Please do it for god's sake, or you will have to lose everything, I've warned you!!!)
Thanks for sharing.
But the question remains, Will this damn thing do it again, maybe time will only tell.
Hi all,
After spending 2 days with my vario my dreams of a half-decent smartphone are shattered.
I've got a C500 which hasnt really caused me any problems in over a year, now 2 days after having a vario i'm almost pulling my hair out.. can this phone possibly have been released in such a bad state or is it just mine?
For starters it crashes, not now and then, but like it's a hobby of the vario's, i dont think i can leave it for an hour, come back and find it hasn't hung in some form.
Sometimes i have to do a soft reset, sometimes, i can press the power button, get the screen to light up but can't do anything. Sometimes I get icons but when I click them i'm told the shortcut doesnt exist.
Ooh another thing it seems to like doing is randomly going into flight mode, and one really good crash was when i called it and the source phone could hear the ringing but the vario was just sitting there doing nothing.
So is it just mine or is this the most unstable phone the UK has ever seen? Is it worth me asking for a replacement, or just flashing the k-jam/qtek rom over the t-mobile one? Is there a way to backup my t-mobile rom and flash it back should i find the qtek/kjam rom does the same?
I've tried hard-resetting then cancelling all the t-mobile gubbins that loads from extended rom, but that didnt make any diference.
Any advice gratefully appreciated
Thanks
Personally, I'd say get T-Mobile to replace it! Unless you've installed a buggy piece of 3rd party software (but if you did, you wouldn't on here complaining about the phone you'd be complaining about the software, right?).
I also have an MDA Vario. I haven't touched the Extended_ROM (was going to, had a look and decided it was running fine so don't mess with it).
It's solid as a rock. As per a thread on howardforums asking how many times per day have I soft-resetted the phone and my answer was an average of zero.
I hard reset it on the day I bought it (after installing GPRS Monitor which knackers the backlight turning back on after sleep) and took the battery out after T-Mobile decided to disconnect me from their network (at their support line's request).
Anyway, it's on 24/7, never needs a reset of any kind, gets mobile emails via ActiveSync and is generally a wonderful piece of kit!
List what apps you've installed (even if they're T-Mobile supplied ones from CD) since buying the phone as there may be something buggy there. If not, definitely get T-mobile to replace it as it's certainly not a crap model (mine is absolutely fantastic).
Thanks Andy,
I've literally not installed anything, i'm just about to install pocketcommander but that will be the first thing i've actually installed. I've hard reset the phone this morning and it's already hung once on me (
I'll give tmob a call and see if they can send me another out today or something
Yeah, then you've definitely got a knackered phone. They should replace it (how long have you had it) without problems.
Hope you enjoy the replacement, they really are a great bit of kit
Well just had my first ever dealings with tmobile supoprt and it's as bad as the phone
They say because my contract/phone is only 3 days old i need to go back to the people i bought the phone off to get a replacement, problem is they'l want me to send the whole boxed thing uip and all the box etc is at home since i work away during the week
That's got to be faulty, like others have said.
WHen I bought mine, (T-Mobile shop in Leeds), I was told that if it was faulty within the first 28 days, there'd be a straight replacement issued immediately.
Don't accept anything less.
For what it's worth, I always try to be exceptionally pleasant when returning things rather than going in "all guns blazing"; it gets results a lot more often than the "I know my rights" approach. Of course, when it all comes down to it, the "i know my rights" approach might be necessary, but hopefully it shouldn't be.
The phone is superb, so stick with it even tho it is a bit of hassle for you.
good luck!
hi there no problems with my vario either. seems to work fine. no soft/ hard resets needed so far. have had it for 10 days. only thing is after the xteended rom instals there is a file called canned text in words which opens up in a crazy language. does not go on hard resets. but does not cause a problem either. any ideas on what this file is. have othar vario users noticed this file. please help.

may not be relevant to your problem, but if skype is installed on yours from the hard reset install, it may be worth removing, on the k-jam as soon as i removed skype, reseting stopped happening
I got my blackstone yesterday. Excitedly opened it up, fiddled with it a while, and flashed a new rom. It was a while before i realised that the phone woudlnt vibrate. Im pretty sure its a hardware fault, but just wanted to check here to make sure I havent missed something.
The phone wont vibrate, even when being called / txted with vibrate mode on. I also understand the hardware buttons are sposed to have some kind of haptic feedback or minivibrate, but this doesent work either.
I searched through all the settings, and couldnt find any magical turn on vibrate feature buttton. Vibrate notification is definately turned on, and so is the vibrate profile. I inittialy installed Panoshas Black Pearl rom. I tried a hard reset, and then also flashed the Dutty rom, and finally the original rom to see if it that worked.
Can anyone point out an obvious mistake ive made? Or am I gonna have to send my lovely blackstone back?
Thnx in advance.
Hmmm...you've already tried flashing a new rom and if you still have the same problem, send it in. It's still spanking new, shouldn't be a problem getting it rectified....or better yet ....replaced!
Was it vibrating when you recieve it, on it's original ROM ?

thnx for your response, i think ill probably do that.
its pretty annoying to have to send it back already lol, but its worth it to have a working vibrate.
A Second Opinion
Yep, I got my Blackstone a week ago today and it vibrated just fine out the box. I have not flashed any new ROMs, but I have installed plenty of programs including .net 3.5 and mobilmagic button stuff and hd tweak, installed and uninstalled advanced config and a few keyboards, the list goes on. Long story short, my vibrate doesn't work either! I think this is due to my tampering with it though, I really do. Also, I saw another post where someone had the same problem, he ended up getting his to work after playing with .net 3.5, hard resetting more than once and soft resetting too. So try that, let me know what you find out! I plan to hard reset and flash new ROMs soon, so I figured maybe these problems would go away then. Oh and, anybody else have a problem where their end key doesn't end the call, ? This is such a tinkerer's toy, lol!
Probably a good warning about flashing ROMs! Did you backup your original ROM? I think you will need to restore your original ROM before you send it back for "repair". (Otherwise it is likely you will be charged for any work/replacement - justifiably!)
Before you despair, what ROM did you flash it with? Have you contacted the developer about it? It may be a setting in a tweak you don't know you've installed. Have you tried playing Tweeter (the vibration feedback when the ball collides with a wall will indicate a working/non-working vibrator).
Rather than just offer bad news to you and tell you it's your own fault, here is a helpful tut on How to backup ROM, albeit a little late maybe. It may not be all doom and gloom - some kind soul may be able to offer you their backup ROM (particular to your mobile provider) which you can use to restore it to factory default before testing for the vibrate and/or sending it back for a fix. Who is your provider and what original ROM do you need?

thanks for the tip. i fiddled with .net framework 3.5 and more hard resets, and altho i have installed hdtweak and advconfig a couple times, ive done multiple clean flashes without them and it still dont work. in fact - as i said above, im 90% sure it never did work, so im convinced its a hardware fault.
i hope yours wroks after a rom flash, but i think mine is gonna have to go back...

yeah - i definately played tweeter even before flashing any roms, and there was no vibrate - so i guess that proves it really is the hardware.
i bought my phone from mobilephonesdirect, but have my rom backed up, so should be ok.
ta for the offer tho.
Mine was the opposite, it wouldn't stop vibrating, even when switched off.
You had to take the battery out to get it to stop.

You could try and use TouchResponse. That program gives a vibration response with every touch on the screen. If not, indeed send it in.

havent been able to get throught them on the phone yet.
ill keep you updated if you want.
I appreciate that
yes I would love for you to keep me updated, I purchased mine through ebay from addictedtophones.com, which is out of California. They seemed like nice people but they sure aren't wanting to help my broken vibrate after only 8 days! That is just sad my friend. I have also contacted UK and US support and HTC global repair service. They have indicated that they are looking in to it. Apparently the US section may not have the resources to work on the device. I requested that they replace the phone, if they couldn't work on it ASAP, the person seemed to agree and put the request forward. I hope that helps your situation. I spent too much for a broken stone!

I received my new replacement Touch HD in the mail a little bit ago, it vibrates. It must have been a hardware issue best I can tell. I just about had to send it off to HTC, but I finally got the retailer to replace it. It actually took a lot of crap just to get HTC USA GLOBAL repair center to want to accept the idea but, I called UK HTC and they called HQ in Taiwan or somewhere and got something done. So if you need some help, Ive got a few contacts that can help, anyone can just let me know. I hope this doesn't become a widespread infection.

I'd say it's probably a hardware issue. My first HD also didn't vibrate, and had to exchange for a new one. Probably some issues with one of the batches.

Hi All,
I've had a bad "tech" day today Walked into work, put my laptop down and dropped my X1a . I'm 6'4" so its a pretty long way to drop even if its on to carpet. Sure enough, turned my phone on and the LCD wont turn on anymore although I hear the expected sounds etc
It is under warranty since it was bought at a Sony Style store out here in Massachusettes but the issue is that I had a custom ROM on it and without the screen turning on, I wont be able to replace it with the stock SPL, Radio, FW etc etc..
So my question is, do I even bother sending this thing in or do I spend the coming weekend disassembling this thing in the vague hope that I can fix it.
Anyone got some wisdom to offer on this?
Thanks much!
well u dont need the screen to be on to flash it , and hardspl i dont think they will check it for a physical damage fix
dl a stock rom and flash it with sd methood
Thanks... I guess I'll have to call in and see what the repair process is like.. Any idea on the average round trip time from me sending it in to getting it back repaired?
It took me 3 weeks to get mine back
Lol
I can relate to that, I'm 6/4 myself and havnt had one phone I havnt yet dropped, except my Xperia, but my girlfriend fixed that one when taking it off me while I was getting my new born nephew out of the car, so I hadnt o choice but to let the phone hit the floor when she dropped it. Couple of nasty scratches on the front casing and a really annoying one on the screen but I will have to live with it, I can neither take it out on her or the fact i had the littlun in my arms.
Anyway, to flash the SPL is probably the most difficult, but still simple, it just needs to be in USB mode (VOL-+POWER) from off and do the rest from PC. As for radio/ROM, use the SD method, requires only 1 button press which is the power button I think to confirm and then you're good to go.
It may end up stuck at connection setup or something, but they wont care, and if they do you just say you had sensitive data on there and had to hard reset before service.
As for timing I don't know, I'm yet to take mine in over the keyboard problem because I can't do without the phone a the moment.
I had same problem with screen, and they didnt take it under warranty because dropped me and flat cable gone. Took it to SE service, 40$ and two days work...
Does the service center check the SPL? I sent it twice w/0 changing to stock spl with no problems.
send it... dont tell them you dropped it unless you can tell that it was dropped. you got nothing to lose except a bill telling you what it would cost to fix it.
Mate, there is an other help to your case.
There is program for PC called "Jeyo Mobile Companion 2.1".
Download a trial (works for 30 days I think) and you will be able
to see what would be on the phone screen on your computer.
I used that to backup all my mails when my screen was broken.
You just have to have that program, connect your phone via USB
and you will be able to see the screen on your computer.
If you don't really get me, or you have further questions -just ask!
probably u could fake them by telling them it didnt work since this morning... blah blah blah

It rarely pays to lie to the person taking your phone apart; they can almost always tell you're lying. Not telling, however; that's not the same as lying ;D
Hello XDA,
I first off want to say that this site is amazing. Alot of good people on here making some great stuff and i just want to say thank you. Now, my issue...
I purchased the HD2 (T-Mo U.S.) the day it was released and ever since i have gotten the phone i have experienced nothing but issues. The first thing i noted about the phone was that the speaker was WAY too loud. Even when i turned it down it just seemed to be still be loud enough that people in the same room could hear my convo. After a while the speaker started to crackle and now the call quality sounds like ****..it's not all the time but most of the time. Another issue i started to have was that everytime i picked up a call the ear speaker would go mute. I would have to either put the convo on speaker OR hold the phone face down to active speaker, then whip it right back to my ear and it would sometimes unmute itself. You can only imagine my frustration when i called the tmobile store and they tell me i can get a replacement as long as i "wait for a new shipment"
So now to my software issues. As far as modding concerns i have not really changed much on the phone. I' ve installed HD tweeks + some games and my contacts. Now every time i exit a game...the OS either freezes...or it just starts buggin out on me. The bottom bar (phone / menu) will freeze or the whole OS will become super laggy and unresponsive. It has even happened just by using the SMS application at times. Also i find that i could be doing the simplest thing on the phone and for no reason...it wil decide to freeze on me. Sometime half the screen, sometimes the whole thing. I have to remove the battery to reset it when that happens.
Now i know about closing opened programs through the task manager and also about clearing sms's regularly and soon and so forth. If there is anything else you guys think i should consider doing i am ready to hear it. I came from a 1st Gen iPhone that i had since 2007, which i jailbroken for tmobile (the OLD way...lol) and in the 2 years i had that phone the HD2 has given me more problems in its 2 weeks.
Do you guys think i got a really defective phone?...or is WinMo really just that ****ty? I dont want to get another phone but as it is,..im really thinking about just giving up on it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and once again thanks!
I think you have a defective phone. My HD2 (from T-Mobile) doesn't have issues at all with the phone going mute. It could also be the HD tweeks, i would do a hard reset and see if you are still having this issue.
i would suggest try flashing a custom rom with new radio and c if that works i had the call sound problem flashed rom n radio now its crystal clear and runs brilliant

Oh really?...Can you give me more info on this and your previous issue?
my phone would occasional mute or hold the call without me relising and the call quality was terrible my friend in usa has t mob one and he had similar issue he read the stickies in the rom development forum and flashed a custom rom and radio and he thinks it solved his problem it solved mine if its new i would be tempted to take a new handset and see
hope that helps

i wouldnt flash a rom. its a brand new phone do the factory reset first and if that doresnt work exvhange it. If you flash the rom you will void your warranty most likely. IMHO you're already on 2.10 rom which is pretty new and should have all the latest hotfixes

You won't void your warranty flashing anymore... the hspl can easily be taken off now with the same app that puts it on. You can try flashing a rom... it might fix it. Otherwise, flash back to stock rom, take hspl off, and then exchange it. I'm still on stock atm, and haven't had any problems people are complaining of. My only issue is T-mobiles crappy 3g coverage that doesn't even work inside my house. I have 1 more day to decide if I want to return it and go back to at&t... Save up and get myself an australian HD2.
Returning the phone today. Even with the issue of broken ear piece, i just cant take this anymore. Beautiful phone, great UI (sense) but the glitchy-ness of WinMo is just too unbearable. guess ill be getting a Nexus.
it is really up to you if you wanna return it back and get a N1. i bought this phone cause of this specs. and for me it do very nice. you can even buy a iphone also which also very easy to use and less bugs ofcourse nothing is perfect as in "Perfect"
not everybody wants to take risk and flash roms and other stuffs so i guess its your best decision. good luck... but if you need any help about HD2 please feel free to come by this threads...
yea i bought the HD2 hopefully i dont get those problem or else NEXUS one for me too.
