Tmobile HTC HD2 BOOTLOADER - HD2 General

hello, i was hoping someone could help me with this. I am trying to load the Android system on my phone. But it says i have to install the HSPL (HardSPL) on the phone first. I tried to do that but it asks to review the version of SPL on my phone by holding down the volume down key and check the version on the bootloader but it doesnt come up. I tried isntalling the HSLP and the HSLP2 package on this site... and didnt work. I was wondering if someone could help me on this... This phone is super glitchy and wish i can get it working a bit better. Thank you guys.

What instructions for Android are you reading? None of the real versions need HSPL at all...they all load using HaRET, an app that goes on your SD card. If you see instructions to use HSPL to get Android on your HD2, it's clearly one of the fake ones that was floating around.
Check out the thread below for all the current details on the real deal:

You have to reset your phone and HOLD the VOLUME DOWN and POWER at the same time and you will be able to check your SPL version.

Same Problem
I am having the same problem i can't get into bootlader by holding down the power button and volume down button tried and tried and tried again and all it does is come up and show the same old tmobile splash screen and from my memory of doing this before you don't see that when going into bootloader it just automatically goes into bootlader .. my question is how possible is the brick possbility of doing hardspl4

Well seeing as how majority of us do not report any situation of us bricking our phones due to flashing HSPL, I can say the possibility is almost non existent, that is if you're part of the norm of this society.
Are you sure you're holding vol down before you power up your device? Do your volume keys work with winmo/android/WP7?

bootloader mode?

ok so i hit the side ok key and the other side button...put the stylus in and nothing but a soft reset....i prob shouldnt be trying to use a custom rom if i cant even get into bootloader mode huh lol?
Did you HOLD the OK and PWR buttons while using the stylus to hit the reset button? You were suppposed to...
i tried it with the power button then the side ok button and stylus..no luck
then i tried power...ok softkey....stylus.....no luck
im not too bright so bear with me lol
plus im running vista so this may not be the safest thing for me to do
TNT.1921 Series (Official/Professional) OS 5.2.1921 the newest OS is the rom i really wanna use for my titan but i dont wanna brick it or ill be doneeee
You press and hold the side OK button FIRST (it's nearest the jog wheel), keep holding it, and press the PWR button, keep holding BOTH of them and reset with the stylus...if that doesn't work, you have defective hardware
grrr just soft resets and brings up the splash screen...
i just updated my rom with the new htc release could that be causing the problem?
Find SoftSPL here in the forum. Download that and copy it to your PDA, then run it on your Hermes - it will switch your phone to bootloader mode!
I do not think that you have faulty hardware, I think you're not doing it correctly!
Hold OK + Power at the same time, keep holding those to buttons when soft-resetting your device even after you release the soft reset button ... go on keep holding those buttons until your device switches to the 3-colored screen!
If you fail and your device starts normally just keep holding the buttons and stick your stylus in the RESET whole again! Do it until you succeed! It is not that hard!
BTW: Why are you trying to set your device in bootloader mode? If your device is not yet CID / SIM unlocked you can flash only ROMs from your current provider! If it is already CID unlocked then you still can proceed flashing even without switching to bootloader mode - the ROM UPGRADE UTILITY will switch your phone to bootloader mode automatically anyway!
lol i have no clue im just trying to follow the directions so i dont brick my mogul...so your saying i can just run this and itll install on my mogul without any bricking going on?

If you follow the instructions exactly step-by-step it is unlikely that you brick your device! However, I am not going to motivate you to flash your device and I also will not take over responsibility in case you do! There is always a chance that something goes wrong, such as a computer crash in the middle of flashing and so on ...
The question is: Do you need to flash your device?
What ROM are you running now? What do you expect from flashing your device? What ROM are you going to flash? (This questions are important because if you only upgrade your network providers ROM then you do not need to SoftSPL nor HardSPL your device. In case you want to flash the ROM image of another network provider or custom build ROM then SoftSPL / HardSPL is required!)
So, you should answer yourself this questions first because this will guide you in the right direction ... !
well to tell you the truth i like to make changes. ive had all the treos from 600 up to present...never had an htc device. but i like change. and id like to be able to use these custom roms. im pretty familiar with pda related techs but when it comes to this im clueless. maybe im not a htc person im really just waiting till the new treo comes out to get rid of my mogul but if it showed me some power id keep it.
i just updated to the new htc stock rom but i have nothing else..and for some reason i cant get into bootloader mode. i d/led the rom i want should i just install it and see whhat happens?
i have a extra phone to use but i dont wanna brick my moguk
sorry about the typing im hella tipsy watchin the cowboys game!
thanks for all the help though!
Oh, NOW he tells us he is using a Mogul. DUH! This is the HERMES section bro. On the Mogul I believe you just hit power, camera and the reset button at the same time and you'll get to the 3 color bootloader screen. I wouldn't try to flash a HERMES rom or Bootloader on a Mogul young man...
lol crazy! could you point me in the right area then? i thought the mogul was a.k.a hermes aka tytan? they look the same thats why i figured they were.
ha i shouldve scrolled down the main page a bit more....meet me over there and help me out =)
Tytn = Hermes, Titan = Mogul, not the same unit, not the same hardware, not the same rom, not the same bootloader, not the same unlocking procedure...

bricked my vogue

i used imcokemans unlocker (which i have done before) and blee0125's kitchen and really screwed up somewhere!
i cant get it past the "htc smart mobility" screen. it comes up, tells me the driver and radio versions, then those disappear like they are supposed to and...nothing else.
any suggestions would be great, plz im dying here!
i have tried hard and soft resetting and...nothing!
THANKS.
EDIT: just for those coming to this ancient and recently revived thread, this (my) problem has been solved. altho there are other people now with similar problems
Have you tried re-flashing?

Do a camera power reset and try again.
i tried that and it didnt do anything at all. isnt that just where you hold the end key and the side camera key and stick the stylus into the hole?
if so, it have any different effect than the standard soft reset

Hold down the power button and the camera button at the same time until the tri colored bootloader comes up. If that works, try flashing the stock rom for your carrier.
If that doesn't work try the same steps with the memory card removed.
If that doesn't work try to do a hard reset and see if that will take you to the bootloader.
Also, what are the numbers in on the bootloader...are you sure your device is unlocked? I believe it should say... SPL-00.40.coke... on the 2nd line if your unlocked.
You shouldn't need to connect to activesync to reboot. After you run ImCokeMan's unlocker you should be unlocked until you run it again.
As I said in the last post, all you have to do to get to the boot loader is hold down the power and camera buttons at the same time. This will put the phone into the boot loader and you should be able to flash back to the stock rom and start over.
It kind of sounds like you relocked the phone and then tried to boot a custom rom.
sorry i wasnt saying i needed to connect to activesync to reboot, i was saying i needed to connect to activesync to flash, and it wouldnt boot up so i couldnt get to activesync.
and i did to imcokemans unlocker, and everything went fine. when i was setting up the device (ie. setting password, time zone, calibration, etc...) i just decided that i didnt need to finish that as i was intending on flashing a custom rom anyway, and so any settings i put up the time to set would be erased.
having said that, i went ahead and starting flashing a custom rom right from the wm welcome screen that you get on a first boot.
thanks a LOT for your help, promptness, and attention
So are you back up and running?
well, now i am. i just took a 30 min drive down to the sprint store and got a replacement :S
thanks a lot for your help though, im scared i may really need to refer back to this thread later. but if i do, at least i know i should be able to fix it!
thanks.
well, i just did it again. i must be doing something wrong in the cooking of my ROMs...about to try out your solution..hope it works!!
wish me luck :S :S :S :S
well i was able to re-flash, but, unfortunately, it is stuck in the same "htc smart mobility" screen again. i think i have been able to narrow it down to the oemizer app. i must be doing something wrong in there.
oemizer http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=100746&referrerid=10115
ill keep cooking and trying tonight until i find what it is the problem is i guess, thx for your help guys. especially you 360discgolf.
well, after cooking and flashing too many times to remember this late, all i can do is ask for help when you guys wake up and check this thread.
in the last couple of builds i havent been doing anything with oemizer at all and it still hasnt been working, and i dont think i am doing anything extra in buildos that i havent done before in successful ROM images...it seems sort of erratic.
any suggestions/hints/comments would be great, thanks a lot.
you can't just hold the two buttons and press the reset. You have to hold the two buttons at the same time, then while holding them, use the stylus to hold the reset until it restarts. If you just tap the reset button while hold, it doesn't work.

i'm having a similar problem. my attempt at flashing didn't go over that well and now when I turn off the device, I can't turn it on again unless I do a soft reset. I tried doing the power/camera thing but all it does is ask "are you sure, yada yada" and then the devices turns off. you were talking about a stock rom? where would I get one and how would I re-flash the rom (assuming that's the problem in the first place.).
Thanks!

what carrier are you?
EDIT: also:
1) what os version are you running? (build number)
2) what radio are you running?
3) what bootloader are you on? (can be accessed via holding power + camera button and poking reset hole)
4) what are the orange numbers in the very bottom right of the screen when you are booting up?
these kinds of things all need to kind of jive for the sleep function to work correctly

If you used the imcokemans unlocker a 2nd time, I believe you re-lock your phone.
You also mentioned that you tried to flash the ROM from the Welcome Screen. That certainly won't work. You have to be at the unlocked rainbow bootloader screen which will load when you run the RUU or when you press Power-Camera-Reset. If it doesn't go into bootloader then you've probably re-locked your phone.

My HTC Magic is bricked

I've got a "Brick" HTC Magic - Vodafone.
Basically, when i press the power button doesn't start. It happened after follow the "Install / Update SPL" ( http://code.google.com/p/android-roms/wiki/SPL ) guide.
Is there any way to recover it? or should i put it on the bin?
You're going to have to be more specific than "it doesn't start".
Does it turn on? If so, does it hang at the htc magic screen? Can you hold vol-down and press power (while still holding vol-down) and load a screen with three androids on skateboards? If you can do the last step, it's not bricked, and you should look at the thread I have below about bricking and semi bricking, one of the users on there gave a great amount of information on what you can do if your phone's not working right (bricked).

Hi Caid, thanks for the reply! sorry for the short message without details.
Here is the answer for your first question (sadly, the rest of questions can be skipped):
Does it turn on?
It doesn't
It was after follow the guide i mentioned before. I tried to update the SPL, but something went wrong and my phone didn't turn on again.
So... I think I have to accept the fact is not going to work again.
Is there any kind of service able to fix this?
Anibal
No display at all? no backlight on the screen? no vibration (signifying it's past a certain point in the loading stage)?
You probably tried taking out the battery for 10 seconds and then putting it back?
As Caid444 asked, tried holding Back+Power for a few seconds (after making sure power is off and not just hanging. Take off battery for 10 sec and reload)? Tried holding Home+Power after making sure power is off?
please i need some help htc touche cruise

I'd really like to say it DOES something... but it doesn't . I tried Volume down + power, back + power and several more combination always taking out the battery and putting it back.
It's bad... Do u know if there's any hardware service for this?
Just a wild guess, but since the phone sucks more battery, then a vampyre on rampage.
Could it be an idea, to charge the battery before, or have the usb cable pluged in, when you press back+home? (the same buttons you used to enter fastboot)
I'm pretty sure what you're trying to say is, you know enough about the phone to know how to bring it into it's multiple boot options, and none of them make the phone even burp. So there's no need to tell you to press this button plus that button, or insert usb or remove usb, or battery or such, because you've already done all that.
Well, I'd have to agree with you that it's dead. Unfortunately, there's nothing to do at the moment. I'm guessing (or maybe just hoping) that in the future there will be an unbricker for our phone, much like those available for many htc branded winmo phones. In the meantime, how old is your phone? Can you still bring it back?
Caid.

p.s To anyone else who's trying to figure this out, let's assume that he's already tried the many variations of recovery procedures and that it's still not working.

If it's really a brick and we all want to learn something from this then we need to know the following :
1. What was your original SPL
2. To which SPL did you "try" to upgrade? (I hope you didn't try to flash a G1 SPL on your Magic...).

BRICKED by HARD SPL ( the recommended )
Same here, I have just bricked my new vodafone HTC Magic (Vaffanc...)
downloaded from here: http://code.google.com/p/android-roms/downloads/list?q=label:SPL
I hope something can be done. It is not reacting to power button at all.

I think you are right, I have flashed the G1 SPL. But the page is really not clear, it start speaking as Dream/Magic and probably it is only for Dream. Since it says to apply the Hard Spl and in the download link(http://code.google.com/p/android-roms/wiki/SPL) there is no clue that it is not for the G2.
Any idea? anybody got it changed from the shop with no problems? (mine is vodafone in the netherlands)

as far as i can see no need to flash spl on vodafone magic. i have the same phone and all i did was root with Rav1.1.1G.img and flashed rom of my choice. you have flashed phone with g1 spl and it actually says g1 on the link you provided..........can't see how you missed it. with phone off press home+power button as that bring up recovery image. Rav image file is safer due to that. i am sure if hardspl was available for Magic it would be posted on here as a sticky

It seems to me you need to go back to basics and start here
A noob question but what exactly does flashing a new SPL unlock.
I got my Vodafone UK HTC magic and simply Downloaded a 32B ROM and used nandroid backup to apply the update.zip and it installed fine and can use Root required apps.
hi all
My HTC magic was bricked after update SPL. Now when press power button, it stuck at HTC magic logo, anyone have solution for fix its?
I Can not understand how can this be possible. Why guys all of you, don't read before trying to change your SPL???? You even don't need any changes about it?! Why do you try to change the SPL? Do you know what that SPL does? I think most of you - don't.
My next question is why all of you are trying to flash the G1 SPL onto Magic phone? Are you crazy or what? There is NO HARDSPL for Magic (G2, Sapphire or whatever you want to call this device)!
The SPL collection is posted in this forum by Amon_Ra, and if someone want to change the SPL can do this by downloading some of the SPL collections posted here.

Power off your phone! Then press and HOLD the "back button", while holding it press once the red one(which you usually use to power on the phone). It will power on (i hope). If you get in fastboot mode then everything will be fine.

Maybe someone can rescue me (quick! EEK!)

Hi all,
Maybe someone can help me out!
I am stuck at work - cant even really surf but had to post as I just feckered my mates HD2!
BOOOOO!!
So I installed HSPL and its still there.
Flashed up to energy ROM (APRIL 1st)
Then got stuck in reboot cycle - phone wouldnt boot unless it had power plugged in.
Took battery out of it and put mine in it which had higher charge - not much.
Then I got it booted into 6.5. Customised and changed settigns for Vodaphone.
Rebooted and phone stuck in loop again.
Couldnt get back into Vodaphone.
Went to bootloader and then used the official:
RUU_Leo_HTC_WWE_1.48.405.2_Radio_Signed_15.28.50.07U_2.05.51.05_2_Ship.exe
Flashed the bugger.
Then tried to boot again.
No boot without power inserted
Phone will not complete boot even with power
gives HTC white welcome, shows ROM etc
vibrates backto HTC white welcome.
Rinse
Repeat
Can anyone give me any ideas what I can do with this? He is coming to get it at 5.30; I am meant to have FPSECE Morph gear and all sorts of other shizzle for him
He is going to get a brick
any ideas would be GREATLY welcome.
no flames please if I missed something, I am desperate to sort this quick and quiet.
Try make Task29 and then reflash Radio and ROM, it could help you i think...
Have you installed radio 2.08 ?
You should. You can install it by downloading it and use customRUU to install the file.
Put phone in bootloader first.
Your mate's phone will be revived
What radio do you have installed. The NRG roms require radio 2.08.50 in order to boot.
Yea sounds like a radio issue. You didn't mention what phone? US Tmo HD2 or everywhere else HD2?
Is GSM HD2
I have done all above task 29 new radio - loads of roms.....stuck in circle.
Phone will not boot without apower lead in it
Ahh feck [email protected]
What version radio does it read then when you are stuck in your bootscreen ?
is it still 2.06 or 2.08 now ?
Installing HSPL doen NOT upgrade your Radio.
What is your SPL version ?
And "fecking ass" is groce. Try fecking some koent.

Actually they dont require 2.08... they require a radio without .51 numbering.
You can use
2.07.50.27
or
2.08.50.08
either will work just fine.

True, I use 2.07 (old signature LOL), but just mentioned 2.08 as it's the recommended one.
Oh ****e
Ok all,
Big warning to all here:
See my attached image.
I bent the left most battery connection pin out a tiny little bit - so little I didnt notice it.
Then the phone would obviouslly only boot without the power plugged in.
The pin was being pushed out! and not connecting with the battery.
I bent it back and it booted whilst I was explaiing that I was having teething trouble with his new ROM.
HAHA
Thanks VERY much to all for ideas and fast feedback - really thought I done it in then! Bloody hell Id have had to give him mine!!!
OH NOOOOOOOOOOO!!
@ the try some Koent line......OH GOD LOLOLOL
Waht with the relief of fixing the device and a joke like that, I was ROFL ing it - Not RALPH ing it...
Thanks again all
Yarod, the above advice for the radio version applies only to the custom rom.
By flashing a factory rom from the memory card you have probably overwritten hspl which is why this dosen't boot.
First thing to do is reflash hspl in the bootloader, via usb. If you remove your memory card and hard reset, then you should get a working phone. Assuming it's a vodafone branded handset you can use a vodafone branded rom without the need for hspl - there's a 1.66 version up on the uk site.
If you want a custom rom, use hspl and check the radio requirements before flashing
and most importantly flash via the usb only to avoid overwriting hspl.
hth,
mike

Hi all,
Maybe someone can help me out!

Hey! I did the same mistace, u need to download HSPLv2 , Install 2.06.0000
Then volume down + power botton, install stock ROM from HTC.com, and reboot.
That worked for me, hope it works for you.
Cheers.
lol
hi all this is fixed see my previous post, i had bent the battery pin - so small didn't notice it. i wonder if anyone else has suffered from this?
many thanks
i am tempted to fart in the general direction of the "another victim" statement
I'm a fixer not a victim lol...

It just happened to me!! A billion thanks mate
Another reboot loop victim...
Bent battery pin seems to have been the culprit for me as well! sat on charge now to get it to 100% before I start reinstalling cabs and stuff.

[Q] Stuck at bootloader at boot

Hi
A friend of mine has a HD2, never HSPL or anything and still running on 1.42 rom.... Now everytime it boots it goes straight into the bootloader. Since its never been messed around with I find it odd, seen it before with people with other phones. Would this just be a corrupted ROM and therefore it goes there, would if poss a stock rom flash be able to restore the phone, if that is not the case then a warranty return is still valid, but obv not wanted.
What do you think, will this work? I did search but everyone's posts come up with I task 29 and now stuck... etc and not from a stock bootloader as well!
Cheers any help will be appreciated, my first thing I will get him to try is a rom reflash but that will be tonight, I'll update on the progress then!
First thing I would check is if his volume button is stuck for some reason. Second would be to see if it detects a USB connection, then hard spl and new rom from that point. Keep us posted.

The post above me is correct check and make sure the volume down button is not stuck/Hung in the down position. If it is stuck in the down position like it is being held down at boot then this is the cause of it going straight to bootloader at boot up. If there is no problem with the volume down button then try a hard reset of the HD2. Warning this will reset your friends HD2 tolike it was fresh out the box so any photos, videos, documents, and etc that is not on the SD card they will lose. Also any contacts that are not backed up withan app like Microsoft My Phone will be lost. To do the reset while the HD2 is off bold the volume up and the volume down buttons down and press and bold the power button down. When you see the tri color screen come up release the volume and power buttons and follow the instructions on the screen (hint: you will want to press the vume up button). Now if after the Hard reset your friends HD2 still goes to bootloader at boot up then download and flash the stock ROM for their HD2 you can find it on HTC.com but make sure you varifiy that it is for their HD2 by entering the serial number of their HD2 you can find the serial number look under the battery. To flash the ROM let the HD2 boot up to the bootloader and then connect it to the computer via USB cable and wait for the Serial in the white bar of the boooader screen to change to USB and for your computer to show it recognize the pbone and then run the .exe or RUU wich everone the ROM has.
Never thought of the key being held done will try that first.
Also I won't HSPL'ing as its in warranty and a half HSPL'ed phone is well useless
OK so i feel like a bit of an idiot for this one. Turns out what I call a bootloader and he does is totally different. For me Its the tri-colour screen, for him its the red/orange windows boot screen. So it was all solved by a HR. Great..
Sorry for those who offered the advice but it really was not needed. but solid advice it was, you always can rely on help in here
