Re-enable Wifi available notifications - Mogul, XV6800 General

I just got my Father in Law upgraded from the Treo 700w to the Titan XV6800 (both with a data block). Now he has Wifi! Unfortunately, I accidentally hit the option to stop showing the pop-up message when WiFi networks are available. I do not have the phone on me, but would like to walk him through how to re-enable this feature. He refuses to pay for a data plan, so I thought I could get him on the best Verizon PDA that does not require a data plan.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

I think if hits the button under the "power" button that is the "COM" manager. Turn on wifi again and the 'Notifications' should reset, I think?

Rom Update --> Data Call Failure Error

I have the xv6800 and I'm on Verizon. I just updated my rom to 3.57.605.1 from Verizon's website.
After *228 I was able to make calls, but now I have this persistent error:
Data Call Failure
Error Code: 11
PPP Connection Error
I do not have a data plan and dont want one. I only use wi-fi. This popup is annoying.
Can somebody tell me how to kill it, or how to fix whatever is wrong? What on my phone is trying to use the data connection so I can disable it?
Verizon tech support was useless.
holy cow, go this too! what is this about?
Just flashed my new xv6900 today. everything is working, i believe...but keep getting this ppp error.
Any resolution on your end?
Nothing. I imagine we're some of the first people to go through this.
A week or two ago, Verizon issued a statement saying all new customers with pda phones as of November (not sure exact day) will be REQUIRED to purchase a data plan.
I think the *228 process is now going to verify a data plan on pda phones and since I dont have one, I'm stuck with the error. Either that or my phone cannot properly "handshake" with Verizon since I dont have the plan.
I was on the phone with support for 2 hours last night. They're useless. We even tried giving me a data plan long enough to let the phone sync with the server, but this morning I got the error again.
I'm sure someone can find a registry edit to get rid of the message. I think that would be enough for me. My only concern, is if my phone is persistently trying to establish that data call, it'll eat my already-weak battery up in no time.
That is why I'd prefer a solution to disable the whole thing. I'm still waiting on the kind people here at XDA. These guys know more about Vz's phones than they do.
In "connections" I deleted the Verizon data network connection, but it comes right back. I wonder if that was not there before the rom update and maybe that is what's trying to call out?
I had such good luck cook'n my 6700 but this 6900 is not so fun.
My message has gone away after about 10 minutes after the programming. even knowing i could do txtmsg and call on my phone i could not get into voicemail, it stated i could not be verifed...so I think it just needed some more time. i'm keeping my fingers crossed.
but now I have to flash again...more problems.
FYI: i do have a dataplan...
I was right about the battery problems at least.
My phone finished charging at 3:00 pm and sat on my desk (no calls or use) until 8:00 pm when I got an emergency low battery notification.
Whatever my phone is doing is blowing through battery life.
Sounds like normal life for a wm phone with the data turned on!
Must be looking and burning power just like roam does.
DMU RESET
According to the Verizon 3rd tier people I was speaking with last night they simply need to do a DMU reset on your account and phone. This is where they rebuild the account on their servers but first level tech support will never be allowed to help you here. This was done for me after the *228, *22899, *832, and many many other attempts at reconnecting my phone.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for letting me know! I was starting to think I wasnt going to get any help. I'm calling Vz tomorrow.
I called Vz tonight and they said there was no such thing as 3rd tier support.
He said DMU would only help if I had a data plan and I wanted to re-establish my data plan. I want to permanently disable my data entirely. Were you doing the same thing?
Either way they couldnt help me. If your issue was the same as mine, let me know and I'll call back and push them harder.

"Once gone from there, I deleted the connections under settings/connections/connections/mange existing connections and they've never reappeared since. So now I just create a new connection when I need it, and delete it when I'm done. It keeps me from going over my limit ($25 data plan). "
Deleted the connection and the issue is gone. FYI
This is my first contribution to xda-forums! I'm glad I can help at all when I've benefitted so much... Thanks to all!
NOTE: After the following steps, Modaco's Nodata doesn't even register that a data connection exists! For this reason, if you occasionally use 3g, you probably will want to use Nodata, and NOT the following solution. You just might have to open Nodata and disable the data connection every time you soft-reset.
I was finally able to completely 100% block the 3g data connection on my Verizon XV6800 (aka Mogul aka Titan) was the following three steps:
1. The key culprit is HTC_CM_Guardian.exe in the windows directory. I couldn't edit it or delete it via Total Commander file explorer, but I was able to rename it! This makes the OS unable to find the program when it tries to re-set the Data connection settings.
2. Under Settings > Connections > Connections > Advanced > "Select which networks are automatically used," hit "Select Networks."
3. Under "Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using:" hit "New...".
4. Enter any name you want (mine's "nodata!") and leave all the other settings blank.
5. Save and exit! Voila!
Wifi--yes; 3g--no!
Modaco's Nodata program is awesome, but the problem was that HTC_CM_Guardian.exe re-enabled the data connection every time I reset the phone. Plus, HTC_CM_Guardian.exe would also thwart any effort to block data via the "Connection Settings." By renaming HTC_CM_Guardian.exe and creating a "nodata!" connection that programs auto-connecting to the internet would try to use (and fail), we get three results:
1. Modaco's Nodata doesn't even register that a data connection exists! For this reason, if you occasionally use 3g, you probably won't to use this solution.
2. When you reboot, the OS is unable to mess-up your "Connection Settings", so
3. Unless you have an active wifi connection, programs will try to connect to the Internet using the "nodata!" settings, which, being empty, will fail, exactly as planned.
Hope it helps.

Phone randomly switches to Media Net (data mode)

My service is AT&T. All of my data functions are turned off. My phone switches to Media Net (data mode) within in a minute or two of turning the phone on. I convert it back to AT&T using the communication screen and within minutes it converts to back to Media Net (data mode) on its own. This is a bad thing - AT&T charges me additional monies by the minute whenever a call is made, email checked or anytime the phone is used in the data mode. No matter what I do, I can't keep it in the non-data mode; the AT&T mode. The phone is unlocked and AT&T is not charging me the data service fee of $30.00 per month but they are killing me with kb/minute charges. Please help!!! I've tried turning of the WiFi and always have all the data modes off. How do you turn off Internet Explorer? An "E" that is bolded and is encased in a white box is on the top communication bar next to the phone signal strength. Plesse help!!! I even had the phone switch mid call from AT&T to Media Net and it charged me per minute data charges for the time it was in the data mode. It's killing me and driving me nuts.
Thanks in advance
Why dont you do a hard reset to see if it helps, otherwise go to Connections and delete all of them, so you dont go to internet.
EDIT: The best thing you can do is search for Nodata.cab file, with it you can enable/disable connections, it works great.
Is there anyway to shut off I.E.
Thanks for the info. I'm a new user (4 days) and no very little about hard or soft resets and I'm not sure what you mean about going to "communications" and deleting everything. Regarding the edit, I don't understand searching for Nodata.cab file. I'm new to anything but standard (5 year old) cell phones.
Thanks again!
Look, put search in Google for Nodata.cab. Find the file put it somewhere in your phone and touch it to install it. After that you will have an icon in Programs, start the program and you will see something like data connection enable/disable.
Here is nodata cab........

Sprint DataPlan - how to get out

So I have a no contract Sprint Galaxy Tab that I bought from Best Buy. When they activate it oyu are stuck signing up for the data plan at $29.99/month. I have had the phone for several months and I am tired of paying money for 3g when I am WiFi almost all the time and when I need 3g I cna always tether to my phone (I have tried this several times and it works great even after the 2.2 upgrade).
So I went on the Sprint site and tried to cancel. They said I had to do a live chat. So I did and the rep said the only way they would stop the plan is if they got rid of my phone # for the tab (why the tab needs a phone # even though it cannot make calls on teh Sprint network is beyond me).
So my question to you experts out there is can I drop the plan and lose the phone# and still have all the functionality I need to connect to the web via WiFi and get to all my Google apps and Market?
Yes. The wifi and the phone service are separate. I use my Tab as wifi only with no issue and tether to my phone when out and about also.
To second that my gsm one even works without a sim

GPS without Data Plan?
I have had 2 Galaxy Tabs (Verizon and now Sprint) and neither one worked well for GPS until I turned off airplane mode (which then showed that I was getting data somehow as I got 3-4 bars in the notification area. And when, airplane mode is turned off, the GPS gets a fix right away whereas when I don't turn airplane mode off, I cannot get a fix at all. I am, BTW, using Copilot Live USA.
Can anyone explain the interaction between the GPS and data mode - it's baffling me?
well if you hold down the power button, you have an option to deactivate 3g data.
i have a sprint tab, WiFi use only. I deactivated the 3g and froze those sprint apps using titanium backup so i dont get a "activate device" message all the time, and GPS works pretty good teathering with my iPhone. using the google navigation.
Report it stolen

How can I use a smart phone on AT&T just on wifi

So I just picked up a couple of WM phones HTC743 and an AT&T Tilt 2.
I've been using one of the early windows smartphones for a number of years just for the the contact manager because it uses activesynch nicely with Outlook. Too damn small for any network access though.
I'm not terribly interested in a big data plan for a lot of internet access. I might pickup my email and surf a bit while I'm traveling though. I had wanted to use the wifi for that.
Th HTC s743 gave AT&T a bit of a startle because the didn't know what it was.
It's functioning but even though I have Data Conn. turned off it still manages to automatically turn on once in a while. I see daily very low volume charges even though everything says I'm accessing via WIFI.
I just plugged the simm into the Tilt 2 and though I haven't called AT&T as yet about this phone it did allow calls in and out but I can't seem to get the internet connection working even though wifi shows as being connected. It takes a long time for it to connect compared with the S743.
So ... is there a way to use either of these phones via wifi only?
Just turning off the Data Conn. on the s743 doesn't seem to completely work. The pre loaded GPS app appears to automatically turn Data Conn. back on. I know it does this if wifi & Data Conn. are both turned off.
A neat little AT&T billing trick?
From what I have read on here I think I maybe screwed on the TILT 2.
It also appears that until I register the Tilt 2 with AT&T my WIFI internet surfing just isn't going to work or do I have something else wrong?
I just have Data off, and no Data plan, but I'm using a android phone. I'm using the HTC Aria.
I was able to fix the S743 by just deleting the "APN"? in the configuration menu. I can always reload it quickly from AT&T if need be. But that phone also let's me pick between AT&T or Tmobile so I think it's more flexible to begin with. It's WM6.1 whereas the AT&T Tilt 2 is WM6.5 and there's no such configuration page where you can download the network configuration from AT&T. I've looked but maybe I missed something?
I also can't get this phone to work on WIFI either yet.
If you can, just change a character in the apn. This will stop it connecting, and it will let you easily switch it back on by changing it back if need be

[Q] hotspot "not active"

Hello, first of all I don't live in the states right now, I bought my phone a couple months ago from best buy and the guy said I could use it abroad, and I can, no problem with that. But when I try and turn on my mobile hotspot it says checking subscription status then That my mobile number was not found. I would call Verizon and ask them, but customer service takes a while and that will rack up a huge bill.
If you are on MJ7 or below, you can simply ignore that message (but press the home button to get it off your screen, not the "back" arrow or the "cancel" button on the pop-up).
There was a bug in the VZW app in those older versions that actually brought up the WiFi hotspot before it displayed the nag screen, so as long as you simply *ignored* the pop-up about no subscription, the hotspot function would be active. For MJ7 and below, there are also "helper" apps to launch the WiFi hotspot (e.g. TetherSetting by noboru - root not required).
If you are on MJE, you will probably have to purchase a hotspot app (e.g. FoxFi or PDAnet). FoxFi has a trial version if I am not mistaken.
I suppose it is feasible operating the phone on a GSM carrier rather than on VZW's network could change the behavior of that app, so YMMV.
Thanks for that. I tried the pressing back thing and it didnt work, so I downloaded the free thing and that didnt help either. Paid for Foxfi and its working like a charm. Thanks alot
