That's insane, I'm in Australia on the 3 network. My carrier unlocked x10a is $0 per month on the $99 unlimited plan, I get unmetered phone calls, unmetered text and mms, voicemail and 4GB of mobile data.
America's are expensive as hell!

Yea Canadian cell phone plans are pretty BS. I pay about $75 a month for: 250 daytime min
Unlimited evenings and weekends
Caller ID, Voicemail, Unlim Text Msg pack
500mb data
Luckily im on a grandfathered plan with rogers but this is still too high IMO.

Wow you are getting hosed as well. I pay $52 a month for the same plan I have unlimited text as well, but I'm sure you do in that as well.

That's loco, I mean there's 34,160,000 people in Canada and 22,412,633 in Australia, I mean that's 10million or so people, but I can't see how they can justify that much of a difference with the mobile plan pricing as I'm sure the infrastructure is almost the same...
Although how fast is your theoretical broadband max? Cause ours is only 24mbps

UMTS.HSPA band 1.4.8
band 1 = 2100MHz
band 4 = 1700MHz AWS (what T-mobile USA uses for their 3G)

[Q] SIM only no contract carrier that supports the G2?

I have an G2 from T-Mobile, and i love the phone.. But i'm paying 175$ a month for two lines. That's outrageous! I'd rather pay cancellation fees and get rid of T-Mobile for good! But i love this phone, a lot. I'm very used to it.
Are there any SIM only carriers in the US that will suppose unlimited android data? T-Mobile boasts that they have unlimited data, which is honestly a con, big time. Since after 5GB is used, they limit your data to EDGE bandwidth, which is useless!
Are there ANY honestly UNLIMITED data carriers out there anymore?! Please, advise me in any way possible, i'm losing my mind! ..and my paycheck. ):
I think only unlimited one is sprint but its cdma I believe.. they wont cap you after 5gb
Sent from my HTC Vision using Tapatalk
AT&T is the only other of the "big 4" carriers that is GSM (Sprint and Verizon are CDMA). And AT&T does not have unlimited data plans anymore, and the G2 is not compatible with AT&T's 3G network anyway.
There might be some small regional carrier that has a better deal. But remember that the G2 only has 1700/2100 and 2100 MHz UMTS (3G) bands. If the regional carrier does not use those bands, 3G won't work.

is your mms on simple mobile fully functional?
Simplemobile is cheap and offers coverage from the same towers as T-mobile. They do offer an unlimited plan as well. You sign up with no credit check and they send you a SIM in the mail. Pretty solid and I'm surprised more people on XDA don't use them because this is a dream for someone who is frequently changing phones and doesn't wanna deal with bullsh*t carrier stuff. They're just the same as T-mobile without the big-company support lines, etc. and they don't deal with handsets, only SIM cards, so they're going to be cheaper.
You can also stay with T-mobile for a no contract plan. I'm on an "Even More+" plan. No contract, $59.99 a month 500 minutes, unlimited texts, "unlimited" 3g/(4g) data (aka 5gb then throttled). T-mo's no-contract plans are generally $20/month cheaper than the contract plans oddly enough. I believe the $69.99 plan is 1000 minutes, and theres an unlimited minutes tier at $79.99. From what I've heard theyre starting to phase out Even More+ plans because they like to have people in contracts and buy phones from them, and they really don't advertise them anymore, but when I went to my T-mobile store I specifically asked for it and they offered it no problem.

They probably offer SIM's to people with T-mobile frequency phones, and other SIM's to people with AT&T frequency phones, and simply provide service to the set of towers your phone works with.

I agree. You can't blame OP for wanting a cheaper offering to run his phone. OP isn't looking for cheats to lower his bill or anything, he just wants a cheaper option. This is the main reason why a lot of people leave Verizon and AT&T for Sprint and T-Mobile.
I use a local carrier called cincinatti bell. Of course I live in....cincinatti,ohio! But it is free longdistance and unlimited data (no cap) but the "4g" speeds top out at 2.7 Mb in my area... they do have other store around the country and they say they use both T-mobile and att for roaming..... not sure if this helps as my bill is about the same as yours for two phones (1 with data) but at least it is unlimited for real! And the service is good. No contract.

I've decided!
Turns out, one of you posters helped me out greatly by suggesting Simple Mobile. I checked their website, and i can get Unlimited Everything for 60$, and the SIM was only 12$. It's coming in the mail, and should arrive soon! I shall update later on about it's service. I'm not sure if it has truly unlimited data, so if anyone does know the answer to this question, that would be awesome! But if not, I'll just call customer service and ask them.
Oh, and another little tidbit; They support almost EVERY phone here in XDA! I looked a the list and it's HUGE. I highly recommend that all of you check this out. It looks like a great deal, and they cover everywhere that T-Mobile does, too! So, go check out the site!

'Tis true - I use them. The first line is $45 for unlimited minutes/text, up to 4 additional for $25 ea. You need to purchase data via fill cards (~$40/gig) but they don't expire.
Best part is, tmo phones work without SIM unlocking. I'm getting 4G on my Galaxy S 4G, and all I had to do was stick the SIM in.

Tab in the UK, what service

For those in he UK what service provider and plan are Julie using? I was just in Norther ireland and stoped by a orange dealer and asked what voice plans they had for the tab and all the Guy told me was that they had data plans and was not sure if a voice and data plan as available.

Can you buy an android or smartphone plan?
I use prepaid SIMs in my Tab.
I seldom use voice, so I have a TMobile SIM at the moment with their 6MONTHWEB booster which gives you 1GB a month for 6 months for 20 quid.
Also, when I travel in Europe, TMo has the least unreasonable data roaming charges - £10 per 50MB, which is enough for emails and light browsing for a few days.
If I was going to put my Tab on a postpaid plan, I'd go for Three's One Plan, which gives loads of minutes and truly unlimited data for £25pm.

Dave

Anyone know which phones work on this? I was told smartphones need a separate data plan, but what if I used unbranded or Canadian Phone?
I just bought a att 3g compatible nexus one. Will that work? And if they do detect my imei as a smartphone, can I just pop it into a dumbphone and switch right back to my nexus to get data again? Or would I have to call customer service?

Most or all unbranded phones will work. Barely any old ATT branded phones work. No iphones work.
This is without buying the additional data. ATT will give you data if they think you are using a featurephone, like unbranded phones. Speeds will be throttled though to about 0.50 mbps.
If you want unthrottled speeds, buy a straight talk nokia e71 and swap the sim out. It is $45/mo. The e71 can be bought for $100 from their website right now as a refurbished phone. http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...!-Everything-you-need-to-know-to-make-it-work!

Generally they begin capping around 2gigs. Not bad though for $45. Only reason this appeals to me is I can't get T-Mobile 3/4g service but I can get AT&T hspda service. As far as I know, this is the cheapest unlimited plan that runs on AT&T's network.

It does, unlimited minutes and messages, 4G with speeds throttled after the first 2G - but it's only available as a family plan: 2 phones, 2 plans, 2 x $50 / mo.
Great if you've got a family member who's interested, and you both live in the t-m ob footprint.
The same plan's available BYOD for $60/mo, which is a lot more when you consider that the family plan includes phones.

I used Simple Mobile's $40 per month plan and data speeds were horrible. It was so bad I switched to their $60 unlimited. Then this past weekend T-mo had that free phone giveaway thing for new customers, so I ended up signing up for the $60 plan for 2GB of data. Same price as Simple and I only really use about 2GB per month anyway, so it works well for me plus a free Galaxy S 2 is always cool with me.
The one thing about t-mo I really like is that if you call them there are a lot more options than what you see on the web. For example, I use Google Voice so I don't need SMS. That cuts $10 out of the bill right there, but you have to call to get them to take that out, can't do it via the web I don't think.
When is the Straight Talk SIM plan coming out?! Will they do 4G? God, I hope so, $45 bucks for all the **** they offer is a STEAL, especially if you use it with a smartphone... Unlike I am doing with GoPhone ATM

Knowing AT&T, if you use Straight Talk, the data speeds are probably capped at 512kbps.
Didn't work for me. I cannot even use SMS with their unlimited $45 plan. Data is down as well. I'm on Straighttalk AT&T SIM card. Customer support reset the options on their side twice, but it didn't help. I tried two different phones with this SIM card to no avail.
texts should be working but for data, did you put in the new APNs? Data wont just work if you just insert the SIM card in since AT&T and ST have different APN's

Buying an (UK) O2 GS III today - will it be I9300?

Hi everyone,
This is my first thread on XDA dev forum, I have tried a search but this is rather a specific question I think.
I am today going to go and upgrade to a Samsung Galaxy SIII with O2. I am bound to O2 because I get discount having a very good friend who works there and to be honest they have been a great network for me so wouldn't change anyway (even though EE are rolling out 4G).
The question is, will I be getting a non-LTE or LTE version of the GSIII? I'm assuming its the I9300 (non-LTE), if that is the case will I hope I won't regret not having the 4G capability as O2 are planning on rolling out 4G in 2013 iirc. I get HSDPA on my sensation in most places which is plenty fast in my opinion and I don't use a great deal of data because I have wifi @ home/work. Is there anything I might be missing by not having 4G?
Cheers
Alan
You will get the I9300 from O2 at the moment..
As stated in previous posts, the data caps are just not going to make 4g that worthwhile yet in the UK. I'm usually the first to feel downhearted when a new thing comes out and I can't have it as I'm stuck on 2 year contract, but I ain't fussed about 4g.
My Internet is fast enough for doing daily things away from home, at home I have wifi, so downloading things is done at home, plus I have a 2gb allowance on my phone for my data.

512MB on Vodafone in UK my friend. By no means is O2 the worst. Furthermore, to add insult to injury, Vodafone reps TOLD me I don't need more than 512MB. Who the fsck are they to tell me how much data I need??

Does that mean the new LTE version on Orange/Everything Everywhere would be a Quad core version with 2gb of ram and LTE?
Wonder what the exact spec will be when its released. My guess it will probably be a SGH-I747 version for the UK.

Its the £31 plan which is on offer... Currently reduced to £21...
I'm on the 3 mobile "the one plan" which is truly unlimited... The T-mobile deal is open to interpretation but its certainly worth potential users giving them a call to clarity.

Yeah you may be right.... Does sound to good to be true.... And you could burn some serious data with LTE..
I've very happy with "the one plan" from 3 myself....
Will be interesting to see how LTE goes in the UK going forward though... "If" someone comes out with an unlimited LTE package inc teathering we could see people binning their home broadband and landlines altogether.

if you have been with them for a while they will be looking at your past usage, this will be based on that. I use web access all the time and rarely go over 350 meg as I dont watch videos that often. What they are suggesting is that 512 is more than most users need.
I`m also on the "One Plan" on 3, great to have unlimited internet, and the other allowances in the contract are perfect for me to, just a shame I can`t get a signal most of the time when I am at home lol

Im pretty sure that plan isnt 4G its just the Full Monty Plan from T Mobile.
4G will be handled by EE which users will have to upgrade to.
As far as i can see there is NO pricing data for EE 4G out yet.
I9300 S3 on O2
Hi
I got my SGS3 with O2.
The data amount i have is 1GB per month which i have never used all up and i would consider myself a heavy data user, its been plenty fast for me and always a reliable connection unless i go to Tottenham Hot Spur Games where there so many people packed in one space that theres no data signal. O2 have released an Android app which lets you track your data, SMS, telephone usage and bills and whils a bit finnicky to set up once going it does its job ok.
My only gripe with it when i got it was that the boot up and shut down screen would show O2s bubble logos which peeved me off as well as the useless bloatware they supply, fortunately a stock BTU firmware solved this and those have disappeared.
Other than that i have been satisfied with using my SGS3 on O2 and cant wait till official JB firmware is released.
BTW for those who don't like Tottenham (AKA Arsenal Fans), I don't support either team nor am i into football, i just work nearby and each time theres a game it wreaks havoc on the phone signals.
