Hi everyone,
This is my first thread on XDA dev forum, I have tried a search but this is rather a specific question I think.
I am today going to go and upgrade to a Samsung Galaxy SIII with O2. I am bound to O2 because I get discount having a very good friend who works there and to be honest they have been a great network for me so wouldn't change anyway (even though EE are rolling out 4G).
The question is, will I be getting a non-LTE or LTE version of the GSIII? I'm assuming its the I9300 (non-LTE), if that is the case will I hope I won't regret not having the 4G capability as O2 are planning on rolling out 4G in 2013 iirc. I get HSDPA on my sensation in most places which is plenty fast in my opinion and I don't use a great deal of data because I have wifi @ home/work. Is there anything I might be missing by not having 4G?
Cheers
Alan
You will get the I9300 from O2 at the moment..
As stated in previous posts, the data caps are just not going to make 4g that worthwhile yet in the UK. I'm usually the first to feel downhearted when a new thing comes out and I can't have it as I'm stuck on 2 year contract, but I ain't fussed about 4g.
My Internet is fast enough for doing daily things away from home, at home I have wifi, so downloading things is done at home, plus I have a 2gb allowance on my phone for my data.

512MB on Vodafone in UK my friend. By no means is O2 the worst. Furthermore, to add insult to injury, Vodafone reps TOLD me I don't need more than 512MB. Who the fsck are they to tell me how much data I need??

Does that mean the new LTE version on Orange/Everything Everywhere would be a Quad core version with 2gb of ram and LTE?
Wonder what the exact spec will be when its released. My guess it will probably be a SGH-I747 version for the UK.

Its the £31 plan which is on offer... Currently reduced to £21...
I'm on the 3 mobile "the one plan" which is truly unlimited... The T-mobile deal is open to interpretation but its certainly worth potential users giving them a call to clarity.

Yeah you may be right.... Does sound to good to be true.... And you could burn some serious data with LTE..
I've very happy with "the one plan" from 3 myself....
Will be interesting to see how LTE goes in the UK going forward though... "If" someone comes out with an unlimited LTE package inc teathering we could see people binning their home broadband and landlines altogether.

if you have been with them for a while they will be looking at your past usage, this will be based on that. I use web access all the time and rarely go over 350 meg as I dont watch videos that often. What they are suggesting is that 512 is more than most users need.
I`m also on the "One Plan" on 3, great to have unlimited internet, and the other allowances in the contract are perfect for me to, just a shame I can`t get a signal most of the time when I am at home lol

Im pretty sure that plan isnt 4G its just the Full Monty Plan from T Mobile.
4G will be handled by EE which users will have to upgrade to.
As far as i can see there is NO pricing data for EE 4G out yet.
I9300 S3 on O2
Hi
I got my SGS3 with O2.
The data amount i have is 1GB per month which i have never used all up and i would consider myself a heavy data user, its been plenty fast for me and always a reliable connection unless i go to Tottenham Hot Spur Games where there so many people packed in one space that theres no data signal. O2 have released an Android app which lets you track your data, SMS, telephone usage and bills and whils a bit finnicky to set up once going it does its job ok.
My only gripe with it when i got it was that the boot up and shut down screen would show O2s bubble logos which peeved me off as well as the useless bloatware they supply, fortunately a stock BTU firmware solved this and those have disappeared.
Other than that i have been satisfied with using my SGS3 on O2 and cant wait till official JB firmware is released.
BTW for those who don't like Tottenham (AKA Arsenal Fans), I don't support either team nor am i into football, i just work nearby and each time theres a game it wreaks havoc on the phone signals.

We have bunch of thread about Throttle Data. If you don't like getting throttle please sign this petition and spread the word in our xda community. We need to get more people sign this petition faster so we can resolve the issue. And tell At&t to F*** Off because i hate when I pay for unlimitated data and only get about 3.5 to 4 GB with full speed. SO PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION HERE.
Honestly speaking, will this really do anything? At&t reserves the right to throttle or stop your data service as they see fit. Shady and screwed up, I know, but it is defined in the contract we signed when we all got service from them.
My data isn't throttled, but I don't actually use more than 3GB a month.

Thread moved. Would advise you to read forum rules and post in correct section.
Failure to comply with forum rules will result in an infraction and/or ban depending on severity of rule break.
Well we know how these companies tend to suck our hard earned money.
We have to sign a contract and still limit our usage.
I suggest move to another network which have a better data plan from AT&T.
This wouldn't do anything. It's obvious no one likes data throttling.

T-Mobile does have 5GB and 10GB options that now include FREE TETHERING! Yes, you're still throttled after the 5 or 10GBs of data. But.....5GB for 30$ including tethering beats AT&T easily. 10GB for 60$ including tethering as well.... (referencing classic plan pricing here) is not bad either.
Only Verizon ATM beats it with Their double data promo (example: 10GB for 5GB price of 50$). That's a promo, not everyday pricing either.
Oh, yeah....NO TETHERING INCLUDED on Verizon either.....

I've never had issues with them either. They cover most of my routes in South Louisiana to my customers' homes. They've recently expanded their 3G coverage as well. I was pretty excited to see be able to stream last.fm again in some out of the way places.
So with VZ about to double data(again!), I have been thinking of getting a GNex with 5GB(or 10 since double), so if the Journal comes, Id have a great plan. Should I do that or get the ATT and get the 5GB plan? I hate that the only messaging option is 20$, and employee discounts do not help.
Thank you in advance!
One thing i learnt over the last decade using cell phone, gsm phone always resells easier, faster and at higher price compares to cdma. That's why i never go the verizon route. And do u really need over 5gb data? Sure 10 is great but unless u carry 3 battery around all the time and not using wifi at home, there is no way u can burn through 5gb data per month .

oh better believe some people burn through tons of gigs per month. If you stream netflix videos, tether your phone as a hotspot, etc. Then it is possible.

I may blow throw the Limit, im on TMO never came close to the soft cap, but I am installing an Ipad in my car and would like to stream movies/videos w/e thru the note.
I want the 10 just because its a GOOD deal, would kick myself if I get the ATT, dont pick up a VZ phone with the double data, then the note comes out on VZ and i coulda had double the data!
I think I will pre-order and test for 30 days. If VZ had this deal before, theny may have again!

The Verizon version of the Note, should it come out(I think it will, hence the question/anxiety).
Most important is whether at&t works ok in your area. If it's tolerable with its overall coverage and data speeds, I'd say go for the at&t Note.
Don't be surprised if the Journal for VZW doesn't come out until like this summer at the earliest.
I'm basing this off the 9 month span it took the Thunderbolt to come out after the EVO was originally released for Sprint.
Problem is both at&t and VZW fell into the bad habit of taking forever to release phones. Culprits being long iPhone exclusivity for at&t....and OG Droid being a hit for VZW.

if youre worried about data usage, just wait for the vzw version. ATT only offers you 3gb/mo + $10 per gb beyond that. I personally dont think the note is worth jumping ship over, especially since the journal will come out. It will have LTE as well.
How long will this double data promo last?
I know LTE speeds are not achieved with international SIM-Free S3. I can trade-off that one feature for many other things. I use Non-smartphone plan for 15$ vs 25$(LTE) a month which is pretty cool with unlimited data and i get speed up to 1.5Mbps(which is ok as i have wifi availability everywhere). Importantly the hardware, there is a possibility of Krait processor coming in for LTE handsets(rumor as heard). I don't want to take chances of losing Wolfson DAC this time(US LTE variants might have a different chipset).
Share your thoughts.
I am getting the international version because when I got my skyrocket I sold it right away profiting $500. I got the phone for FREE.
That being said, I live in the LA area and there is 4G LTE. But I have a limited data plan anyways and always have WiFi at work and at home (fios).
I'd rather have the Wolf, and Exynos over the S4 as the Exynos blows the S4 and Tegra 3 out of the water.

Agreed, but if all you're getting is 1.5Mbps, then I would scream bloody murder. I'm in Austin, TX and using international SGS2 on AT&T and get up to 7.5Mbps...!
I am on that plan and get avg 3-5mbs with mine. I have gotten 7-8mbs a few times and 12mbs at 1AM.
I just used 109GB on that plan and not a peep out of AT&T. LOL
I am going with international, if the ATT version ends up looking better or for some reason have better specs, than I will just buy that on contract and sell the international version. Not really worried about lte.
Also now that the ATT htc x one is the only version with a locked bootloader I am very hesitant to wait for the SIII ATT version.

I am getting close to 3MPS DL (provisioned on MediaNet, not Smartphone) As long as I can stream movie trailers without hiccups Its all good. Thats about the only time we use Carrier data while at a restruant deciding what movie to see...We have not used an ATT branded phones since the Captivate and won't be buying any soon except to sell.
We are saving over $600 a year on two smart phones. Plus the sale of the upgrades. It's an easy decision to buy the International versions on so many levels. even IF ATT had the IMEIs and billed for a Smart Phone in whcih case we go to Straight Talk. We don't need LTE for anything .
And the Wolfson DAC AFTER Supercurio does his magic is well worth the price of entry. But like all of our International devices so far SGS IIs and a Note, we buy used. Don't need a warranty as I void it anyway rooting and ROMming...LOL
Thee should be used ones becoming available in a couple months. In the mean time let the early adopters discover the issues and the Developers fix em. I can wait..........I think........or not.

You likely have the right settings. If you are not provisioned for a "Smart Phone" from ATT you will be on the MediaNet plan and your DL speeds will vary a lot and never really go that high,
. Mine go from 1.5 to 3mps. I have never had issues with streaming though when I needed.

I 'd say 4 months after the first ones are shipped and $200+ less Used. I haven't bought a new International phone yet. Warranty iffy in the US and I fully intend to void it anyway rooting and ROMing it. May as well buy an already rooted device from someone reliable. Paid Less than $450 for the SGS IIs and Less than $600 for the Note. Those savings alone goes a long way toward the SGS III.
All I hope is that they will release both a LTE and non-LTE version in the US, like the SGS2.
Wishful thinking.
I'm getting international version and I am on t mobile. I have HSPA+ right now on my phone with them but honestly... Edge can still download stuff.
I'm a little upset that it won't support HSPA but I can live without it. More and more places that my friends and I frequent are putting up free WiFi so I feel like in a year's time WiFi will be so abundant that getting LTE devices won't be such a big deal.

To each their own.
Mainly for people in the UK thinking of switching to the i9305, I see it as extremely expensive http://www.4gdongles.co.uk/ee-4g-prices-plans-incentives-released/
In short, here are the prices (for people scared of links)
£36 – 500MB
£41 – 1GB
£46 – 3GB
£51 – 5GB
£56 – 8GB
This is for a Huawei Ascend P1, and includes unlimited calls and texts, VoIP, tethering and access to BT WiFi.
Other devices will have higher costs.
My view, give me an unlimited 3g plan, least I won't have to be stuck on WiFi (which will probably be slower than 4g, especially public hotspots.)
As expected.....totally overpriced, not interested, mind you, I'm existing customer, and contract just ran out so I might go play with sales staff and see what they come up with!

I actually see it the other way around, I'm glad 4g is so expensive because fewer people will have it and I will get all the bandwidth. Bwahahahah!
I have just got my S3 lte from t mobile, if these are the prices I will be sticking on 3g, having said that 4G is not available in my area yet!! and these offers of free transfer over to EE contract are only valid untill 31-12-2012.
theres loads of peeps *****ing about the prices on FB so maybe they will review them, especially if no one is going to use 4G after spending all that money on upgrading some of the cities in the UK. .........

£56 – 8GB
This is for a Huawei Ascend P1, and includes unlimited calls and texts, VoIP, tethering and access to BT WiFi.
Other devices will have higher costs.
My view, give me an unlimited 3g plan, least I won't have to be stuck on WiFi (which will probably be slower than 4g, especially public hotspots.)

still a total stitch up, I predict slow uptake on 4g!
seriously ridiculous!! I will stick to 3g, it's fast enough for what I do away from home, and at home use my superclass broadband

It's still expensive if you have a 4g phone 500MB for £21 when you can get unlimited data, 2000 minutes and 5000 texts for £15 4g just isn't worth that markup.

A little graphic to show how much of a rip off EE's LTE is.

What a laugh.
SERIOUSLY!
8gb for £56! i would use that in 1 download.. well overpriced.. 3g for me at 14mb is absolutely adequate and unlimited too.. will have to wait until the greedy muppets a EE realize we live in a data hungry world and 8gb is ridiculous..
Glad I decided to get an unlocked Galaxy S3 i9300, I would never pay that, I don't really need the internet on the go much, 3G is fine at the moment, plus on Three we have some of the best 3G speeds in the UK, Fine with that!
Just seen this mentioned on watchdog, I knew 4g would be pricy when first launched but jeez, just an 8gb allowance for £56! Sorry but considering the speed of 4g that allowance is pathetic. EE told watchdog that there 4g service wasn't meant for heavy usage, just browsing and checking emails etc, I can do that and alot more on my 3g unlimited service lol.
In the context of those limitations, there really is no point in upgrading to 4g.
Im glad theyre gonna **** this up in a way. Hopefully their stupid release plan will drive down the price of 3g services though.

I have to agree 3G is quite adequate for me I haven't even unboxed my S3 as yet but my One S can get 13 mbps over 3G so looking forward to testing S3 asap

the prices will come down in a year. It was the same when internet on your phone was first released. Web and walk tariff was £45 from memory and only gave you something like 200 mins 200 texts and some internet, (cant remember how much but i seem to remember something silly like 40mb?). People still bought it. Eventually when all the networks have it launched the prices will be coming down. Personally i wont be bothering until there is a decent selection of 4g capable handsets here anyway.
I will never in a million years pay that. I'm happy to stick to my average 9mb download and 4mb upload h+ all I can eat data 2000 mins 5000texts for 28 quid per month

I agree with you all, if I use my phone on EE as I do now, and I was on the 8GB plan I would need to buy £144 worth of data add-ons (to get 20GB) so it would cost overall £200/month at least.
I currently play £34/month for unlimited data, 2000 minutes and 5000 texts so for the luxury of 4g I would be paying £166 every month more, if I could afford that I would prefer to save it and go on holiday or buy the phone outright in in 4 months.

It would be helpful to know where you are located, as Providers are going to vary depending on location..
In the US, most Wireless Providers have done away with "Data Only" plans.
If you are in US, You can get a Data Only plan from AT&T but that will not be cheap, at $50 for 5GB.
But if you walk in the store asking for a Data Only plan they will probably say you're out of luck.
You will have to ask/tell them you need a New SIM+Plan for a Mobile Hotspot Device (MiFi Thing)
That is the only way to get a Data Only plan through AT&T.
T-mobile, depending on who you speak with instore, and how dumb they are. Will sell you a Tablet Data Plan.
But you will probably have to lie and say you have one of their tablets (Galaxy)
And I believe the Nexus 7 is going to be release buy T-mobile anyways, though it will more than likely not be unlocked. (And I personally do not buy locked devices)
There is Straight Talk, which is $45 unlimited everything (Although you won't need Voice or Text, but will have unlimited Data for cheap)
You probably going to have to go with a "PrePaid" service that runs on GSM networks.
And don't rule out Voice/Text just yet, It's still unknown whether the Nexus 7 modem will support Voice/Text or not. It could, and they ability just be locked/excluded from the framework.
I myself will be going with StraightTalk as its the cheapest for unlimited Data. A SIM w/ Voice+Text service will still work, even though Data is all that will be used.
I was in the UK last week and got a data only sim card thru 3 UK for my galaxy nexus so I could get around. It was only 30 quid for 3 gb of data. And I got the card out of a vending machine at the airport, so maybe you can get something similar in the states.
I've been looking at a few 3G data plans and it seems like most of us would burn through them like nothing. Would upgrading your cellular data plan and activating (if not already have) tethering be another option? I recently got a 2gb increase + tether for an extra $10/month. I don't think the extra 6gb package was but another $10 more.
In Germany you can get at E-Plus 100 MB high-speed traffic for 5 Euro. 1 GB for 10 €....

Tethering would depend on your Wireless Provider... Most Providers block Tether Apps (unless you root) But if they have a Tether ("Data Share") option, then its possible to tether the Nexus 7 to your cell phone, without your Provider penalizing you. But then why buy the 3G Model, instead of paying $50 less for the WiFi only version?
Why is anyone replying with helpful info. OP posted about as useless of a post as you could and most of you rush to be mister helpy helpy.

No I think useless post of week goes to you.
Anyone find a decent pay as you go plan?
https://buyasession.att.com/sbd/Common/ShopRatePlans.action
This or the TMO 5Gb/100min $30/month would be the cheapest options.
For me, I think i'll give the ATT plan a try since they have far more reliable coverage in rural TX.

WOW! Who bit instead of sucked your **** this morning? You sir win the Gigantic Spoon award, 1st place for stirring up **** for no reason!
In Germany it´s "Netzclub.com". Free 100mbit´s with HSPA+. After 100mb you´ll get a flaterate with 64 kbits
For UK readers of this thread, there is a "Free mobile broadband in exchange for 'watching' ads" service called Samba.
I've clocked up 812mb so far.

im in london, im already on 3g or £15 i get
300 any network minutes
3000 txt messages
all-u-can-eat internet for 30 days:victory::victory::victory:
I was thinking of selling my new 32 gb for the new nexus 7 32GB 3G, but i have root on my current phone, so i plan to tether, or use my freedom pop hot spot.
I would recommend freedom pop if people have service by their home or commute to work. they offer a free 500 mb a month plan, and all you have to pay for is a hotpot, which is also fully refundable when you no longer want the service. If you want more data they offer some decent pricing plans, and its monthly fees no commitments.
I live in Boston and i get great service with the hotspot.

That's heavily debatable. There are numerous horror stories about how it's basically impossible to get your "deposit" back from this company. In fact, I don't think anyone has ever been successful in that endeavor.
I see several mentions of tether. I thought ATT could detect this now, or is that just the tether apps?
If only there was a way for free 3g

Solavei is great for nexus 7 3G tablet
I have a nexus 7 3g tablet and i use Solavei in the dallas area.
I rooted and have texting, and havent figured out calls yet.
They use t-mobile and its been great service, and you have a chance to make money if you tell people with the social MLM if you choose to.
Data speeds average around 4-6mbs depending on where you are, coverage is pretty much full everywhere.
Alot of people think its a scam, but its a really is a cheap great service.

Also straight talk $45 deal is interesting as well. same concept, but you can choose att or T mobile sim. i heard this works well. But the unlimited data is really only about 2 gb give or take 1 gb
