got my insurance £, what now?

hey,
so i lost my touch hd2 finally got over it. my insurance company is going to give me the value of the phone £499.99 according to play.com
my question is should i wait for another phone? or get another hd2. i loved the hd2, obviously somethings werent perfect but hey every phone is like that.
are there any upcoming phones that look exciting? saw the nexus one, but its kinda ugly !
i saw someone posted the US version has higher specs and im going to california mid feb, as long as its unlocked i could get this.

Personally I would grab another HD2, but if I were you I'd wait until Microsoft announce whatever they are going to announce at Mobile World Conference on the 15th. Then make a more informed purchase

If you loved the HD2, get another one You can always wait longer and longer adn perhaps something sweet will be announced soon. But then you'll have to wait some more weeks or months before it's actually released.
Wouldn't get the t-mobile usa version though since it's specifically made for them, using different bands then in europe so it's prolly useless here (for making calls and such at least )

The HD2b has not had a release date. It's been rumoured to be some time in spring, so you've got quite a wait if you want that. Besides, you won't get 3G with it as it's specifically for TMO US. Basically, forget about that phone. The extra RAMAROM isn't really that big a deal anyway.

I do like the looks of the photon...!

Buy another HD2 for £403.50 from Amazon and keep the £95.50 towards a deposit when there really is a phone worth upgrading from the HD2 for. At the moment there isn't a great deal of choice, but in 6-12 months who knows what might be available?
With the latest official ROM, the HD2 really is a very good smartphone.

I won't wait but I know it's gonna suck going back to using 1.6 from 2.1.

I wish one of the ones on ebay would have some sort of proof that it has all of the bands needed for T-Mobile. It's not looking good right now.

Hey guys, I am still waiting for my DHD to be shipped from Expansys... Although I know its more expensive than other places... I wonder are all of the websites distributing these DHD on the 11th October or some maybe earlier? Please speed up time SOMEONE!!! Waiting is a torture~

Why order from Expansys, Play.com and Amazon have it cheaper both for the 11th release date. Nobody really knows when they will be dispatched, usually just before release date.

Not everyone is from UK...
Play doesn't sell electronics overseas and from Amazon.co.uk, the price with the postage stays almost the same price from Expansys.
Also in Expansys it's a lot easier to take the VAT off the price...

Yea, that's the reason why I got it from Expansys... Damn, I hope HTC will release the goodies earlier... I wonder if it's tomorrow how would the community react to this??

I am truly exited about getting this phone. I got my Hero last August and it's never been out of my hand. I'm due an Upgrade next month so hopefully Orange will have released it by then. They always seem to be slower than the rest on release date. I really hope the phone is all that it should be. Hopefully HTC will send some out for review purposes this week to tide us over until release date.

I'm in the UK not sure which website is most reliable for guarantee delievery as advertised. The last thing I want to do is but a pre-order thru, get charged and delivery is not completed as advertised!
The only reason wanting to do this so that I can get it as soon as it is launched rather then wait for updgrade with t-mobile which is on the 18th Oct. Any suggestions and also do websites charge on dispatch or charge as soon as you pre-order?

I figured the biggest name will get stock so I pre-ordered my Desire-Z through Amazon.

You all bros and sis across the pond are lucky, at least you all have something to look forward to. Across the pond here in north america don't even get the chance to hold this babe ... feeling really down since the news DHD is only available across the pond

Bro, pond is only in a small area where you can still actually walk "around" it to get to the other side... U mean the sea? Haha... anyways u guys had Evo4G which across the other side of the sea, us, do not even have the chance to own... Well, eventually you guys will also have it...

ordered my dhd also. with vodafone dutch call/sms/web 200min/400sms and 3,6mbps 1GB bundle. 67 euros costs once. 25 euros each month.
shop tells me the phone comes 6-18 oct.

Expansys seem to have the DVP on sale. Their expected shipment is 1 working day and they now take Paypal payments, which they do only when they have stock.

it says estimated 1 day. they have not got stock and i doubt they will have stock tomorrow as dells own uk site does not list it.
ps. when i pre-ordered one from them in November they tock my money straight away and when i phoned them up about it they say it was a mistak and i had to wait 10 days to get my money back.
im going to wait till play.com or dell.co.uk have they in stock at i dont trust expansys ot clove.

In November I wanted to preorder and pay via Paypal and their rep told me the Paypal option wasn't for preoders and would only appear when they actually had stock. So maybe you can actually buy from them now... To be fair I was fed up and got the Omnia 7 but that could be of interest to some people.
Oh by the way, the last time I spoke to Dell UK they had no plans for selling the phone themselves.

I had emailed Clove only three days ago to ask when the phone was in stock and they said it was expected early this week. The situation is a complete farce.

Surprised you guys are still looking to get this phone considering all the issues and that you can get other devices in the UK that can be unlocked for any carrier.

clove said the 6th january and then changed it to week starting the 10th. the reason they do these dates is so you pre-order from them thinking you are going to get it earlier then if you do it with other sites but once you pre-order they tell you there is a delay and hope you dont cancel (clove had it on the 6th when every over site had the 11th).
exspansy tock my money from my debit card, i did not try the paypal option.
tomorrow is the 11th and play.com and exspansy should say in stock but bet they wont and then will delay it again.
as far as dell.co.uk selling it. i was under the assumtion that dell sells all there products from their website and would sell the DVP too like they have been selling the streak. i prefer to buy from play.com but they only listing the 8gb and i wont the 16gb model.
tomorrow i will see if any of them have it but at this rate i may have to look at getting another phone. with the mobile show in early feb there probably be a load of new handsets.
UPDATE: clove and exspansy have delayed it till mid feb. i guess i will have to see if any new handsets get released at the mobile show that takes my fancy, if not it will be arround mid feb by that point anyway.

i always get my phone sim free so i can get any handset but the hd7 and omina 7 i have seen and tried and i dont like the designs.

Given what's been happenning to our friends in the US I won't be rushing to get it !

The O/S is rock stable ... either that or Samsung have worked miracles! My Omnia 7 has crashed twice since i purchased it and I got it on release day. (To be fair, the ONLY thing that has crashed on it has been the marketplace app)
Its far more likely that Dell have screwed up the firmware or chip/mobo integration somehow.
Either way, i'm now out of the market for one of these. Sadly, its the only 4"+ device with a keyboard.... who nows.... maybe Feb will cure my problem?

Clove has been told today there will be no stock until 'mid february at the earliest' for 'microsoft issue on mms settings'. Given every other manufacturer has phones in europe with working mms capability, I cannot see how only dell needs an one month worth wp7 fix. Assume they have multiple issues and don't have a clue about when they will be able to fix them all.
Now, I'm not sure who, between me still waiting for this phone and Dell, needs more urgently a reality check.

To be fair, once you start using one daily you just see it as a Windows Phone and forget a bit about the design. Sure the DVP has something special but unless you really need a keyboard you can do worse than the HD7 and Omnia 7.
What I will probably miss the most about the DVP is the Gorilla Glass but I'm more than happy with the Omnia 7.

I think Expansys and Clove literally just pull these release dates out of thin air (in the same way that Amazon and Play basically invent release dates for some videogames and dvds, etc., even when they haven't been announced yet). They're clearly not in any sort of serious contact with Dell if, only one day before the phones are due to go on sale, they 'find out' that their delivery isn't going to arrive.
I too am going to have to consider the HTC Pro 7 now, much as I don't want to buy another HTC phone. Sigh...

i heard somewhere that the omnia 7 does not gorilla glass but it is not listed. not sure if this is true.
im going to wait till the mobile show in feb and then decide which phone to get.

i have a feeling that the way dell has set up the dvp is slightly different than how overs have done and as they are very close to microsoft i this microsoft was fix some things that did not work with the way they made the handset.
i could be wrong but seems strange that the release has been put back to mid feb when the os update is to be released.

I'm stil waiting. Mabye its better to solve the problems. Or els the DVP is going to be a new iphone . But what about the OS update how as Microshoft annouced for april? New languages? Like dutch. We wil see

I read that the Wifi version will launch in Europe round about the same time as the full 3g one. Any ideas? I'm planning to get one (wifi) from Italy, when my dad goes up there in May, if it is out then.

The wifi version comes out in UK in the first week of April, so I am guessing it should be around the same time in rest of Europe, give or take a week.

Noticed you in SA. I am planning on buying one as well, the release has been pushed back to July in SA, though I don't know which version it is and about what price it will be.

Never used them, but they are a reputable seller. Forgot to mention that their price does not include Customs duty.
Another importer that has it at the cheapest price is have2have. Their pricing is the total cost. But I am not sure if they are a reputable seller, trying to find out and will let you know.
The advantage of ordering from aureustech is they provide 6 months after sales support.

Yeah, if you planning on getting the 3g version from europe/UK I suggest you get a Cell C 2gb data sim for R999. I use it for my phone and it works great and I get good speeds.
