Return My Phone - Hero, G2 Touch General

So my phones screen is messed up. The letters a and l on the keyboard dont register unless I press the screen really HARD. That area of the screen is unresponsive. I tired different ROMS but its a problem with the touch panel
I called T-Mobile and they said I should take it to a store. Apparently I have 2 year warranty . There some slight scratches at the bottom of my phone so they may think I dropped it
So how can I put it back to stock ROM via recovery and default Radio?
Thanks

Connect handset to PC/Lappy using USB. Then run the T-Mobile RUU from
STICKY [ROM] Official HTC Hero RUU ROM + Radio Links
Done.
..... And PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE POST IN GENERAL OR Q&A NEXT TIME. THE DEVELOPMENT SECTION IS NOT THE PLACE FOR THIS.

not an issue with the touch, in my experience anyways ... I've had the same issue, it lasted for quite some time ... then i started using swype .. and hte issue went away, the issue also doesnt' reside in the vanilla keyboard stock by android ... you can switch to this with ... longclick on input box ... input method .. android keyboard ... see if that fixes it at all ..
as soon as i stopepd using SEnSE UI roms, my issue was fixed ....
try that before taking it in .... i hated it too, and was almost ready to take it in, then used vanilla rom, too good for life.

It does not need to be the newest one, just original.
Choose one which you can root.

just flash the system.img,boot.img and recovery.img from the ruu you should be ok then

Had the same issue. Called HTC. They told me it was a verry comon problem. Got a new screen within 5 days. Good service!
Sent from my HTC Hero using Tapatalk

doesnt even need to be official rom. mine went back with vanillaeclair rom installed and fully rooted. Had done a nandroid backup beforehand. first thing they do regardless is flash a rom onto it so they dont care.

Yeah, just send them with whatever ROM you currently have. Doesn't really matter. Its not as if they'll fine you if they found out because now your problem is the the touchscreen, not the software.

ramsky they may say it voids warranty so I have to pay
Is there not an update.zip available for defualt rom?

Just use RUU for the version that goes with you bought

there is. but it will keep the recovery, so they can found out that you had root.
when you are using a RUU, your phone will be like you just Bought it.

One click root - DOES work on myTouch 3G

There was a locked thread in development where someone asked if it would work. A lot of people replied (obviously without even knowing what they are talking about) that it wouldn't work.
it DOES work on the myTouch 3G's - I just did it on one.
It works on any android phone - but the current apk implementation flashes the 1.4 cyanogen recovery image so it only works on phones that image will boot (i.e. the HTC Dream, or the Sapphire... etc)
It's way easier to apply that than it is to apply the nbh downgrade... etc.
Cool
I posted the question in a wrong area im glad someone with a mytouch tried it i bricked my first mytouch
Worked
This worked for me also I am now on CyanogenMod v3.9.11.2 and it works very well.
TY Cyanogen!
ed
Works...but hesitant
This definitely works on the MT3G just tried it...whew glad it worked Still extremely hesitant on flashing new rom though. Dont know why even though I have a rooted G1. Perhaps I just love this phone too much to f*#$ it up

Now that I think about it...If you just use this to get the recov img the MT3G still has the "perfected" spl. So exactly will this allow you to flash any new ROMs? That is why the "goldcard" was used to trick it and flash to an earlier "non-perfected" spl which would then allow you to flash ROMs updated radio etc etc etc. Shed any light on this?
I know there can be risks when doing any kind of modding/hacking. What is the main risk with rooting the MT3G? Is it mainly an issue with the battery falling out or running out of juice? Or is the rooting process invasive enough (i know it is root = can touch everything) or unstable enough that there is a relatively high probability of an issue running the canned procedure?
I have my phone, love it, my wife would kill me if I wrecked it. I just want to know how likely I am to end up with a brick using this method.
Also a question to understand this procedure, if I run the apk and reboot normally then there is no lasting root, correct? I have to go into the recovery mode and flash over a new rooted rom for root to become permanent? Does this actually change the SPL on the MT3G, does it preserve the ability to flash other roms at any time in the future? I want to know if this is a one time open up your phone for rooting or if after I do this will I always have root.
Sorry for all the questions, but I have been lurking around and haven't found definitive answers to these questions. Thanks!
Dave
Dave, Ive used this method. However if you didnt notice in my previous post...the spl does NOT change. Which is why I questioned the ability to flash any ROMs. The more "complicated" method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=547133) requires a "goldcard" with an earlier version of the spl. Which I believe allows flashing to occur.
Yeah, I saw your post after I posted. I think this is great for a simple root I am thinking to have future rooting I will need the goldcard method anyway.
It would seem that this method should be able to modify the SPL since it is able to run as root, maybe not though...
I did mine last night and now doing my wifes MT3G and I was comparing cyanogen's vs stock and its night and day...no loading screen issues with cyan's build and keyboard response got better too...
LOL yeah Ii was thinking about the SPL if we can change it out? I kinda want to call my phone semi-rooted
so anyone flash a new spl/radio using this one click root? success? or no?

Just did it...1.33.2005/ also S-off. this is definitely legit and makes things a hell of a lot more easier than all those damn adb commands. Dont get me wrong at all I do appreciate all the work that was done by Haykuro and the other boys because without them Im sure this wouldnt be possible. Anywho...it works.
Okay. As newb as one can get with phone mods, etc. But it actually works. I dont know what the exact benefits of it are but I am running... Mod version CyanogenMod-3.9.11.2 per about phone. All my downloads are gone but it worked. I dont know what the difference/any limitations is for down the road, in comparison to the gold card method (I hope none), with this type of root but hey it actually worked and I would have kick my own a$$ if I bricked my phone. Thanks to folks who found this way and are their any "rooted" differences now that I am on cfw using this method for say updating to cyanogens 4.0 eventual release?
Alright, I took the plunge and it worked flawlessly!
I use the 1 click install via the market app called Recovery Flasher. I installed CyanogenMod 4.0.1 Stable. Zoom zoom zoom...
I thought I may have had an issue when I rebooted after flashing since it sat at the MyTouch 3G splash for a ton longer than normal. I had read it was normal for the first boot to take longer so I didn't freak out and pull the battery. I just let it come up and now I couldn't be happier.
If I remember reading correctly CyanogenMod has the fix for the root vulnerability used in this hack to root plugged. So, now that I have a rooted ROM and recovery 1.4 will I ever need to worry about having the dreaded "Perfect SPL?"
so easy a caveman could do it! a thousand times, thank you.
so its confirmed you can FLASH a different SPL with no problem ? cuz if so im gettin a mytouch ! lol
go for it

Bought Magic and its modded!Need Help

Hey Guys
New to the forums and happy to be here
Girlfriend bought a HTC Magic on ebay from an Aussie seller. Its second hand of course.
In great condition but noticed that it does not have the standard ROM on it. It has CyanogenMod 3.937 on it. My gf wants exactly what i have on my phone and that is the standard ROM. How do i do this?
For some reason also in the current rom i cant get into the market? it does not load up?
My gf just wants it on the standard ROM and how it would and should be factory defaulted when you first get it.
I have posted on another site that directed me here, one said i would be crazy to go back to stock and i should update it to a stable version and market and that should fine then.
What are peoples suggestions here?
If that makes sense?
Really would appreciate you guys help on this!!!!
Thanks guys
Mmmm if you have the same Magic (both has the 32A or 32B for example) I think you can try to root your phone, make a wipe and then a nandroid backup, after that, copy the nandroid backup to the SD card of your girlfriend, and in her Magic do a Wipe and then a nandroid Restore... That should leave you both with the same rom I think...
Remember that you need to have the same magic (32A the both or 32B)... Do not try to do it with a 32A and a 32B (different magics)...
Very simple, go to www.htc.com, create an account for e-support, register the Magic (serial number is used).
Then download a ROM image from the HTC site, using the serial of the phone.
Instructions are included when running the .exe file from HTC.
This will restore to the ROM originally shipped with that phone.
Alternatively, you can enter YOUR serial, download the ROM from HTC for your phone, and install that one.
Just make sure if you do the seconf one that your gf phone is exactly the same (32A/32B) as yours.

when you're not sure what's going on, asap is probably not going to happen.
give her your phone instead and then you can take your time to learn what's what with customising these phones.
to work out which phone you have (32A or 32B) power off the phone and turn it back on by holding down the power button and the back arrow key.
you'll get a screen showing three androids on skateboards.
at the top will be a bunch of info beginning with something like sapphire pvt 32b eng s-off g and finishing with a time stamp.
write down all of the info for both phones and post it in here.
then people can advise you on which phones you have.
EDIT: you can read up on some more info here...
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Sapphire
I see you are on Vodafone.
This is for some reason not downloadbale from HTC site.
So I suggest you read this thread to restore the original ROM.
It is tricky, since you will need to use Nandroid backup/restore.
Note, you can also backup your ROM this way and restore to you GF phone, but that involves modding your phone aswell.
So, if you are from AU, this is the thread to read:

1st one who killed the HD2 ;-(

I just HSPL my new T-Mobile 2.08 US HD2.
Worked soooo smooth. Thanks for that. Now the tricky part, I did not read detailed enough that the rom I flashed was a 1.66 based one.
now the HD2 is dead, no powerup, bootloader mode, reset or chargeing led.
Any way to safe it or back to t-mobile?
Thanks Guys
=( omg.... i was impatient too... I was downlaoding all these roms but remembered i didnt install the new HSPL thing.. and then i read the posts -_- sigh.. sorry man
I am so sorry man. Your best bet is to hope you can find a station where they'll work some factory reset magic on there...
Yeah. Sorry to hear that. I wish the SPL program would warn the user or refuse to install if it detected an old 1.66.
No brother
YWell Brother u and me both have to play the old hood wink on tmobile and play the it just died face so we can get a new one. Fortunatly we have 14 days if you kept your receipt, to take it back and nag saying it just shut of for no reason. Its hell of bricked, even HTC would have to completely take it apart to fix it, so no trace of anything would ever come back. the bad thing is their sold out everywhere till Tuesday or Wednesday. But ill wait its a bad ass phone. woooo! where do you live dude? in vegas?
I have read that you can microwave it for a few seconds and that kills it stone dead. No way they can tell what you flashed.
This is a very extreme method and an absolute LAST RESORT!!!!

Have you tried the SD card flash method.
You need to copy the original Tmob ROM file to your blank SD card, rename it to leoimg.nbh (i Think), and then try start in bootloader.

the new one for 1024 T-Mobile 2.08.
Thanks for all replies,
For the Microvawe version, if you smash it with a hammer, has the same effect. Go Green.
No kidding, I ask for a repair solution not a Brick it more.
Bootloader is not working at all, so no SD way as well. And a rom based on 1.66. Smart as I am, I deleted the file.

Dont want to brick it again,
Is there any cooked German Rom that I can use on a USA T-Mobile HD2 based on 2.08?
To make my HD2 in German language?
(post removed, wrong thread)
This is why I'm choosing to wait a little bit before jumping in and flashing my TMOUS HD2. I don't have the 'cajones' to be a guinea pig! I'm waiting until everything plays out and the process is tried and proven safe.
For now I'm enjoying the stock TMOUS Rom, and applying tweaks here and there. I'm running into bugs and annoyances here and there, but don't feel a strong urge to flash roms just yet...especially when so many others are having issues!
Yeah, when it comes to the software side of this phone, I just take it all in with the regular rom and see what I REALLY want out of it as far as options and whatnot. THEN I get to the rom goodies after a lot of review and feedback.
Hardware I'll dissect the guts if I have to anyday though.

I think you'd be much better off browsing all the thread titles in the ROM Development section looking for a rom that is [GER] and [2.08+]/TMOUS based
As long as it's been taken off a TMOUS device, it will work on your TMOUS device

he he. I know it's hilarious. As I said, absolutely last resort if you are taking it back for warranty cos if they find any spl other than factory one your warranty is void straight off the bat. Nice to see you got a replacement without problems.
I just read that advice from another post here on the forum and it is way extreme!!!
As posted above - any rom based on tmous original roms should work. Good luck

YOU might use BSB Tweaks and choose manila language in the menu.
I bet it is based on the tool that downloads the needed manila files from the internet.
Try searching for the tool here on xda or use BSB tweak (but there is a solution to get it fully working german!)

Touch screen dead!

So the touch screen is not responding. I've read little blurbs here and there about quick fixes, but it looks like nothing is working for me. I've obviously voided my warranty by installing HSPL, MAGLDR and flashing NAND Android to the phone, so sending it back won't work. Do I need a new screen, or what?
You can revert it back to WM 6.5 and remove HSPL and send it back in.

So can I fix the issue by replacing the digitizer? If so, they're really cheap on eBay.

Just stick a stock rom on your sd card named leoimg.nbh, then power into bootloader (hold vol down and then press power key, then release vol down once in bootloader).
Once you have windows on phone you can also use activesync or power into bootloader again to flash stock spl.
When you have virginized your phone send it back to htc/insurance or whatever.
I never got the insurance on it...oops

HD2 is known for having digitizer problems. A good repair shop will fix it for around $110. If your good at fixing things you can attempt to do this yourself and save about $50 or $60 in labor. I had mine repaired and it works and looks just like new. It took 3 days to get it back but only because they had to order the digitizer. And please dont believe the guy who said "another dead screen after flashing to nand", Flashing has nothing to do with it, its a hardware problem that affects hd2 users on ALL operating systems, look it up.
Looks like if you keep reflashing it, it works. WP7 works for me 100% so far. It is totally a software issue.

[Q] New android but dont want to root

Hi to anybody who might read this ,i have already searched and only found one post and they went completely off topic
I want to know if there is maybe some way of installing an android rom onto my htc wildfire without rooting (rooting will void the warranty and the phone is like a few days old)
I want to get a different mod because the one i currently have is the stock one and it sucks i have always admired the people of xda for the creativity and knowledge in the roms so please help
Short answer: No
Long answer: Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
You need to root in order to be able to install any custom rom.

well if rooting is realy soooooooooooooooo important then could u guide me through this plz and what are the dangers of rooting(bricking etc)
well if you tell us what hboot version you have we might be able to tell you if you can or not by software.
turn off your phone.
press volume down and power on.
release volume down.
then write here what hboot version it is.
but i tell you, if hboot version are 1.01.000x you can't root it by software, and you'll need to get it done by someone that owns an xtc clip (piece of hardware).
But i dont quite get youre statement that there is only one thread about this subject and it goes off topic fast.
I think there are several threads about both rooting, hboot versions and much more. And all stuff that you need to know are actually in there.
Switch off your phone:
Press the volume down button + power.
The Phone will start.
Let us know what you see
Rom 2.2+ <-?
Hboot 1.+ <-?
s-on / s-off <-?
If your rom is 2.2(+/up) you will have the Hboot 1.(+/up) so there is no way atm to root it.
i have the same problem, we have 2 wait
(yes, threre is NO WAY at the moment)
If you have rom 2.1 (and lower) /hboot 0.8 (or something lower than 1.) its possible to root it to use a custom rom.

if done properly.. the chances of bricking are very less. i ve rooted my phone over 3 times now.
I had a dead row in the lcd so had to get it replaced under warrenty. Installed a RUU and got it under warrenty.
Then rooted again.
The replaced display was dull, not bright enough, installed the RUU and got it replaced again under warrenty.
Then rooted again,
Broke my led. ( was trying the strobe mode in a high brightness led app.. he he)
Installed the RUU and got the led replaced.
Then, Rooted again .
Now i have a feeling the camera is not functioning rite. i see white patches here and there in the images, and the image is not crisp. i can see pixels.. i gues its time for me to RUU again.. he he..

Just how long you've been using your Wildfire? That's a lot of issues.
Been using mine for 5 months and no problems so far except some scratches on the body due to me dropping it violently. Time to RU.. oh wait.

its been 7 months now. Problem with the dead row was unfortunate, but led was my mistake. i knew high brightness strobe would break it. still i went for it.
and camera, perhaps the service guys mishandled it while fixing the led? or perhaps its just dust inside, thought its not prominently visible.
