has anyone removed WMP from a rom without having issues?
If so, how?
Actually, I already tried it. WM platform is dependent on it, just like Windows is dependent on IE. You can't remove it completly. If you remove it, you'll loose ringtones support, etc - as you must have already noticed.
You can upgrade it tho. I'm assuming you want to replace it with another movie/music player. That's a no go.
Hello,
I have an HTC Vogue, and need a fair bit of help, I have continuing medical appointments and have to be early for them, this gives me some free time before my appoinments.
Anyway, I am not very savoy with my PPC, and could use some detailed help please.
I have tried and tried to get videos to play and the best i have been able to do, is divx, but it is choosy about what it will play and then some media plays nice with full sound and others play with no sound, and some just give an error saying incompatable video or sound and wont play at all.
I also like games and have a few that work, but allot of the apps that are supposed to work with the HTC Vogue, have an xml setup file and some other files, but I dont know how to install these.
any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Uhhhh.......
Alright, I assume you have no problems with the appt input.
For the video player, I recommend CorePlayer, anout $25, purchase from direct website for better price, or check Handango for a deal. Or you could use the OLD version TCPMP, does the same thing, just older and uglier !
For the games, you need to install the .cab file, not open it on your PC. Just put the file on your device, find it in the file explorer, tap on it, and let it do its job.
HTC Vogue
Thank you,
I found a 3rd TCPMP, and it works fine, deleted the other 2 versions that didnt work.
some of the files i have, right clicking even on zip/rar files brings up a menu with CABviaActiveSync. some files install correctly, and others throw an exception.
cant wait till my 2 years is up to ditch this ppc for the new Samsung Omnia, hopfully in 6 months or so, i can upgrade....might wait just a little and do better research to get the best ppc out
Thank you for your reply.

Windows Media Player on your desktop/laptop will do it, but you have to sync using WMP as well for them to transfer across properly as far as I remember. Haven't bothered with album art for a while myself.
Just update the WMP library, select the files you want album art for and right click. Then select to update the track info (or words to that effect). It will go online and update your track tags so they display properly as well, but they have to be reasonably well named in the first place for the best accuracy. The best format is "{Track Number} - {Artist} - {Title}".
Eg. "01 - Eminem - Dr.West"

Best way I've found so far!
New Manila Sense from Leo has this option in music tab.
see thats exactly what im looking for but as a standalone app. b/c i had the newer build 2.5 installed but the messaging was soo slow it was unusable and there were a couple other bugs that i couldnt deal with on a day to day basis.. running around soft resetting here and there, its just not productive.. ill wait for the "sense ui" to be officially released for wm. however until then ide love to have this kind of app but in manilla 2.1 . on the other hand im having issues with my computer with all my music on it .. there is music on my microsd that is not on he computer and the computer is having issues .. afriad if i send the phones music to the computer it might get stuck as with my external hdd and corrupt both ..
i have tried 3 builds and could not connect to the internet via wifi or activesync using system files, only opera connects, which of the 6.5.x builds are working? myphone, marketplace, youtube and msn live wont connect
what could be the problem?
MOD EDIT: Solved
First of all... read the main stickie here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6283929&postcount=7
look at the no intenet connection in some apps maybe you can post there and you will be listen by many mor user than just here
thanks, checked there already, even posted a solution that worked for me before on that thread, but the previous wont even work this time around
ok lets do this, we will talk about wht you include or disable in your sys this time compared to that times then tell us if you include any enhacement of IE or messenger... or youtube app or connections... then xplain how it wont works i will make you a new thread that way more ppl can supports
cool thanks... actually from downloading all sys packages i previously used, i never tampered with any files, except copy themes...
then i remembered using 21898 and apps that required the internet wont connect, so i decided to copy the main common files from 21892 (myphone, marketplace and winlive)
now i repeated the process, and none of em wont connect either...
but opera is connecting perfectly, would the kernel have anything to do with connectivity?
i dont disable anything, except for welcomecenter which i always delete
the funny thing is that i managed to get the apps work by using the xip.bin kernel from the 21892 build, but the bad news is that i cannot play cam-recorded videos via the xperia camera app...
using the previous kernel the apps wont connect but the videos played, now i changed the kernel the apps connect but the videos wont play
can anyone help me please
jiji mixing kernels huh? but the wird thing is 218XX is wp6.5 why you dont have your OEMXIPKERNEL match xip.bin???
the native x1 6.5 OEMXIPKERNEL never worked with the higher builds, only 21892 does on my end where the internet apps can connect to the internet... however the only problem now is the playback of recorded videos in the xperia camera app if the settings are set to save to storagecard, the videos doesnt play.... they are only playing if set to save to device...
do you know which module in the OEMXIPKERNEL is responsible for such?
if i knew i would just replace that module
Captai Throwback told me that only the MSXipKernelshould be copied from the new builds and that the OEMXIPKERNEL is the native which should just be renamed to the updated build, this method worked fine for me
yup, but i didnt get noticed that the native Xperia 6.5 kernel just works for COM2 builds...
I dont have that kind of issues of camera dunno.. maybe taht trouble is not in your kernel you know and cpn trhowback is right the oemxipkernel is just a copy once and another agin fromn 23566 folder in ROM Device to 23568 in the same forlder ROM DEVICE
actually it works for all builds, just this one problem
im using 21904.... i cant be bothered anyway, file explorer and manila pictures and video player opens the recorded videos in HTC full-screen player
solved, 21904 xip.bin solved the issue... weird after trying different versions... even more weird because other builds with their xip.bin never worked
COOL!! lets change the name
I has not played with windows phone for a long time, just tried wp7 flash recently with HD2. damn, a lot tricky things.
- wp7 lock the SD card
- no file explorer.
- very hard to side load applications.
- cab file is not back compatible.
- certificate chain, Developer-uplock/ChevronWP7 unlock, Interop-unlock, FullUnlock.....
WTF are they trying to accomplish with all those limitations and making a system so complicated?
no wondering MS mobile market share is shrinking.

reading is blessing and knowledge.... you not read anything....
only BTTF ROM lock card.... others NOT...
yes, you have File Explorer, just need to install it or is already in ROM....
cab files is compatible with BTTF ROM....
no need any unlock for HD2 ROM-s.... is already unlocked....

- if you think all above listed items are not problems, why don't delete all other posts and leave the only candidate BTTF ROM or recommend BTTF as the best ROM in stick area.
- is there a BTTF 7740 rom? no, you had to upgrade from 7004-> 7403 -> 7720-> 7740
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1236027
- I can't get 7004 BTTF rom working in my HD2 after 6 hours, it just freezes in home screen after reboot. Flashing any android rom is less than 1 hour.
- don't you see many dedicated threads about how to revive SD cards?
- side loading has to go through all those hassle, in android, just one check box.
- windows live activation, needs activation code and call customer service to get the code. WTH. signing in android market place is like a breeze.
- in all, just my $0.02.
- Market share is raising, not shrinking.
- SD card in BTTF rom can be unlocked by CAB
- Yes, BTTF rom is 7004 and it's tricky to get it working because of SD card, just read and you will get results
- Actually installing BTTF from scratch to 7740 is better for me, makes you feel more.. customizable, like you have all power of your rom in your hands
- Windows Activation is annoying, just get used to it like others did
- What is MS trying to accomplish? Well I guess to success... And I'm fan, I love WP7.
By the way... every system is complicated when it is not OpenSource.. just be glad to have all these amazing people here and stop complaining.

totally agree... people who not satisfied with WP7 have too much choice and can use what want... this is beauty of game...
i tried all of them and can say: WP7 is best...
idiot
iphone is wide open right?
all android have unlocked bootloader right?
..and I dont get what YOU are trying to say us here
Microsoft was trying to create a more user-friendly and stable OS. and they did it.
Increasing stability means you have to make restrictions. and they did.
You should stay with Android probably if you have a problem with this.
And as said above, Microsofts market-share is growing. It's always hard to start from scratch.
I has not played with windows phone for a long time, just tried wp7 flash recently with HD2. damn, a lot tricky things.
Well, getting an OS running on a device 2 years old that was never officially supposed to have WP on it can take a wee bit of time, it was never going to be easy, be thankful its possible at all
- wp7 lock the SD card
It sure does, its called security, its an SD standard, not a MS one, its just very few have ever bothered to use it
- no file explorer.
on the stock WP OS, you dont need one, if you do need one, then you can get one
- very hard to side load applications.
And MS should make it "easy" for us?, side loading couldnt get any easier, open up WPDM or WPPT select the XAP and click install, how much easier do you want it to be?
- cab file is not back compatible.
Im assuming you mean CABs from Windows Mobile? or perhaps do you mean new CAB installs only work on Yuki/xbox compatible ROMs?, if its the former then actually people are already looking in to making old WM programs work on here, MS doesnt have to provide Backward compatibilty, its a different OS, different APIs and file systems. If it was the latter then thats the nature of modding, we have two systems, a cab updatable and zune updatable OS, or an OS that has all the bits installed but requirers reflashing updates, its called having choice
- certificate chain, Developer-uplock/ChevronWP7 unlock, Interop-unlock, FullUnlock.....
Thats all done on some ROMs and almost done on others, you dont need to worry about it
WTF are they trying to accomplish with all those limitations and making a system so complicated?
lol, its only complicated when you try an do something with it that it wasnt designed for, as an OS out of the box its one of the most simple, quick and well desgined OSs out there, MS got its hands burnt with WM because OEMs and Networks screwed the OS sideways, it wasnt making that mistake again and i dont blame them
no wondering MS mobile market share is shrinking
Of couse MS market share dropping, with WM it was essentially the only PocketPC/Smartphone maker out there, it enjoyed ~90% market share, until everyone else copied it, an to be fair caught MS with their eye off the ball.
i don't know, forcing people to use the cloud is pretty evil in my opinion. all it does is make what was once SECURE DATA completely unsecured.
when the government wants to control the internet, all they have to do is stage a big hakkor attack on "the cloud" and everyone will be so outraged that they will support complete government control over the internet.
How are they "forcing" you to use cloud?

try moving phone contacts to/from a PC without using the cloud
try syncing outlook and calendar with your pc without using the cloud
try moving Microsoft Word/Excel/Powerpoint documents to/from a PC without using the cloud
need any more examples?
Lol, I do all the time, its called exchange, and SharePoint. No one forces you, last time I checked no one held a gun to my head to use live, perhaps you'd rather google, oh wait a min... Funny thing with outlook, since I stopped syncing with it I've never had calendar miss match issues. Also email usually works just fine moving files about. Obviously exchange helps a bit here but no one is forcing you to use live or google
