Windows Media Player on your desktop/laptop will do it, but you have to sync using WMP as well for them to transfer across properly as far as I remember. Haven't bothered with album art for a while myself.
Just update the WMP library, select the files you want album art for and right click. Then select to update the track info (or words to that effect). It will go online and update your track tags so they display properly as well, but they have to be reasonably well named in the first place for the best accuracy. The best format is "{Track Number} - {Artist} - {Title}".
Eg. "01 - Eminem - Dr.West"

Best way I've found so far!
New Manila Sense from Leo has this option in music tab.
see thats exactly what im looking for but as a standalone app. b/c i had the newer build 2.5 installed but the messaging was soo slow it was unusable and there were a couple other bugs that i couldnt deal with on a day to day basis.. running around soft resetting here and there, its just not productive.. ill wait for the "sense ui" to be officially released for wm. however until then ide love to have this kind of app but in manilla 2.1 . on the other hand im having issues with my computer with all my music on it .. there is music on my microsd that is not on he computer and the computer is having issues .. afriad if i send the phones music to the computer it might get stuck as with my external hdd and corrupt both ..

Hello,
I know this is mostly a personal tastes dilemma, but I am looking to add a few specific functions to my Wizard and I just can't find some solutions to very simple issues. Of course I already searched through several boards and freeware sites, but most of the times I am stumbling on overcomplicated, unreliable, unstable or just plain not-working apps even for the most trivial tasks. Other times they work fine... unless you have any other app installed, in which case they bork up the system royally.
So, what are your freewares of choice for the following functions?
1) ALARM CLOCK
Yes, just a damn simple alarm clock to wake me up in the morning. No fancy tricks: just set it (possibly even on a week's advance), select the sound/Mp3 to be played and be sure it rings up when the time is right. If you want to get luxurious, a snooze function initiated by any hardware button would be nice.
I used M.Toda's AlarmClock 0.04, but it seems to be impossible to select a specific sound or buzzing mode (it's always an ear-splitting MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!!!), nor to keep using the Wiz when the alarm is set.
[Update: following Pat12's advice (see below) I downloaded the latest AlarmClock version (ARM version) and it works smoothly. No Mp3 alarms yet, though]
2) MP3 PLAYER
Just the very basic player functions: play the whole folder, add Mp3 to playlist, previous/play/pause/next buttons and a Mute function. What's the problem, you say? Well, all the players I found either blocked the phone functions (a player going on auto-hold on incoming calls would be wonderful), or would keep the touchscreen always active, making it impossible to put the Wiz in a pocket while listening to music.
[Update: The current best candidate seems to be Tcpmp, although it lacks a full graphic interface (meaning Previous/Next song buttons)]
3) WARDRIVER
Yes, I know. But WiFiFoFum hasn't any user-friendly way to select which available AP to hook to. HitchHiker does, but any time I launched it after the first one it made the Wiz unstable. That was on a non-updated ROM, though... I admit I have to check it again... unless you suggest anything better.
4) LAUNCHBAR
Nonononono... no l33t, gigacustomizable stuff, please. I simply need a self-starting thingie to have the icons for the Office apps and maybe the latest X opened apps always on my Today screen. If you've seen the "green" UK ad campaign for WM5 - that's exactly what I'm looking for.
5) ANTITHEFT APP
[edited: the correct name happens to be EyeOnThief, see below]
I used to use LockOnThief, which supposedly sends tracking SMSs to a hidden number list whenever a non-approved SIM card is inserted in the device. Great. Just one more thing would make it perfect: the ability to remotely wipe the device via SMS.
I know this is an AKU2 trick, but I've got no Exchange server so I'd like a simpler approach. Do you know any solution encompassing both the tracking and the wiping functions?
And, by the way, has anyone of you actually field-tested LockOnThief tracking abilities?
6) WI-FI "G" ENABLER
I'd simply like to enable the 802.11g protocol on my Wizard. The problem is: the Djvw Wizard Optimizer 2 seems to make my Wiz unstable, and Registry Wizard crashes on start (yes, I installed the other Cab too). What other layman's solution would you suggest?
[Update: thanks to Meschle (see below) now there is an optimal Cab-tweak for enabling the protocol!]
To give a little contribution, I can only give my undivided suggestions for four softwares I fully endorse:
SCROLLING - You guessed right, it's Smartskey! [And not "softkeys" as per my initial post...]
PERSONAL INFO MANAGER - EWallet. Not a freeware, but great in the way it synchs up with its desktop counterpart.
GAMES - PpcAtaxx (a much more interesting variant on the Othello/Reversi theme which is perfect while commuting) and PocketScumm, to play the old LucasArts graphic adventures
Thank you in advance for your help, I'll really appreciate it!
Hi I'll answer a couple of those
For an alarm see 'Wizard reliable alarm project' WRAPhere http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=43692
where there is an english version of pocket wakeup
Enable 802.11G reg tweak
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TNETWLN1\PARMS: dot11SupportedRateMask=1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TNETWLN1\PARMS: dot11SupportedRateMaskG=8
All values are decimal
What does this green WM5 ad campaign look like? We yankees have been hearing all about it.

Can you provide a link for LockOnThief?
SCROLLING - You guessed right, it's Softkeys!
What is this? I'm having issues scrolling in PIE Plus since upgrading to AKU 2.3 and if this is an app i can try it may help. Do you happen to have a link to it?. TIA
Thanks for the first answers. Here are my first replies:
Meschle: I did check that thread, and it seems that Pocket Wakeup isn't very reliable at all... Also (but this is just an aside), the Italian translation of Pocket Wakeup was one of the worst apps I ever tried, totally borking the Wiz.
And about the registry tweak... I'm just a retarded farmgirl... no hacking tricks for me, please... I just can't believe there is no "download, run, forget" apps to enable the G protocol...
Mattucd & vijay555: Yup, that's it!
Romp: http://www.mycnknow.com/LockAppen.htm (My bad: the actual app name is EyeOnThief... I was confused by the actual filename)
Xandermac: Gah! I misquoted the name again! That would be Smartskey! I don't know if Smartskey will do anything for your problem, but it's right on this board, at http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=41060
Any more takers, please?
Alarm Clock: AlarmClockE is the only alarm clock software that is reliable for me, at least for the time being...(until it fails, like all the other I tried including Pocket WakeUp)
MP3 Player: TCMP, it does pause the song or video currently playing upon incoming phone calls

Try mobialarm 3.2 then - I find this reliable and like it because it plays wma's http://guillaume.tristant.free.fr/
btw are you really a farmgirl?
Meschle: I am actually quite a bit of an IT girl, but sometimes I'd much rather go back to the farm. Case in point: MobiAlarm. To witness:
Installation notes :
- Uncompress the ZIP file in any directory in your PocketPC
- Run the CAB file, it will install a "runtime"
- Run the file called "install.app", it will install MobiAlarm[/url]
MobiAlarm link is located in \Windows\Start Menu\ or \Windows\Menu Démarrer\
The program himself is installed in \Program Files\MobiAlarm\
WHY?!? Why, I ask, should anybody need TWO installations for one godawful simple ALARM CLOCK, forchrissakes? And why does it end up tucked in a forsaken folder, with no icon anywhere? How should I be supposed to remind myself to browse up the Wizard to find a lone file among hundreds... just to get awaken on time?!?
And the punchline? I followed this guy's installation instructions: the runtime went smoothly, and his app simply never appeared anywhere. (my two cents: it found localized foldernames and aborted without any warning message).
Pat12: AlarmClock does the trick!!! No chance to get it playing Mp3s, apparently, but the ARM flavour gets the fade-in working. Thanks!

I put together a wlan g registry tweak cab and also a wlan b tweak for anybody who wants to revert back to b mode.
Install to device and softreset after.
2) MP3 / video player:
TCPMP, www.tcpmp.org
I doubt better could be made
Thanks for the auto-tweak, meschle!
If only things were always so straightforward...
Kilrah: The link you provided ain't working, but I found this download page for other interested people: http://corecodec.org/frs/?group_id=53&release_id=224#r224 (the version you want is the "Windows Mobile Smartphone" one).
In fact Tcpmp is very close to perfect. I only found it strangely lacks Previous/Next buttons on the main screen... or is there a plugin or something to get it?
Just a little update to say I recently needed a tool to fix a storage card, and I was pointed to the non-free but very good SK Tools... yay for it!
By the way, any more suggestions for my initial search?
about TCMP, you are right:no next/prev button. But it's highly customizable and you can assign the otherwise useless softkeys to it. I did it and I can operate TCMP without getting the stylus out or using my greasy fingers on my clean screen
Well..I find it's much easier to have clean fingers
Just kidding. TCMP is a true gem.
Mortplayer is a pretty good free mp3 player. Also there is an alarm clock built in, so you can use ur mp3's to wake you up, and it's been pretty reliable for me. Good interface and not very processor intensive.

Thank you all! I'm treasuring your suggestions... and continuing my search for the remaining apps!

Ciao
I have to admit that I am overwelmed with all of the info regarding the xv6800. I just got mine this past Friday. I have not activated it yet although I did have Verizon transfer my contacts from my Moto E815. I am holding off activating until I learn more about the phone.
The feature that attracted me the most about the phone was the WiFi capabilities. I do not plan on getting the data plan. I do not know how to find out if the phone has Win Mobile 6.1. I would like to have it serve as a GPS.
Some questions:
If I am at Win 6.0 should I upgrade?
Is anyone aware of ant tutorials on using the phone and O/S ?
Is there a way to activate GPS by basically down / uploading a program and clicking on it?
What applications would be best? I plan on surfing, web-mailing, listening to music, working with the office applications.
Is there any "must have" hardware I should get?
Thanks and I appologize it my questions seem very basic but as I said, I am overwhelmed.
Nelson
1 not until you understand what the phone has to offer stick with 6.0
2 not me
3 yes but phone must be unlocked gpstoday and baf gps toggle are the best for me
4 surfing=skyfire music=s2p
5 screen protector
A
didnt it come with an interactive cd with a tutorial? mine did :S
if you are interested in musicand watching video you should definitly get the slunkworks flash bundle and tcpmp media player so you can goto you tube and watch streaming videos the way it should be done on mobile
i have uploaded the files for you if you are interested...install tcpmp first then the flash bundle,,if you need assistance let me know or search for "cab instyallation"
last about your GPS there has been people saying they have gotten it to work through google maps but it requires rom flashing first...but like GeLoPeZ said get to know your stock rom first...maybe youll like it
flaws
the fone does have a few flaws tho...the youchscreen is pointless wen it comes to small icons or scrolling...unless u want to get out your stylus everytime
it can be slow at times but nothing a little registry edit cant help out with a little...
almost everything has to be manually shut off or closed through running programs screen likr data connection etc,,,unless you get a few programs that can stop that hassel
the touch keyboard isnt worth anything its awful...unless, like i said you want to keep getting out your stylus
cant customize text message ringtones with custom ringtones
in all...most all these things can be fixed thgrough rom flashing or free downloadable apps and cabs i give it an 8 out of 10
hope i was helpful

FTouchSL fixes that issue. There's a free version somewhere on this forum, but for a little over 10 bucks (USD), it's worth it to get the commercial (kinetic scrolling!).

You can.... Start > Settings > Sounds and Notifications
From the "Event" menu, select "Messaging: New Text Message" and select the tone you want.
I think the OP was saying that you cant "Assign" a specific "tone" to a user. Just a tone for all incoming texts.
I might be off base......but I don't think so.
this is to enhance your phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2526683 try it

Yes you should. There is really no reason not to. Just remember that flashing the new ROM will delete all of your data, so back it up first.
6.1 is useful for a variety of reasons:
1. You can solve your GPS problem by doing it (see below)
2. It has a task manager built in
3. It has Remote Access built in (so if you need to connect with your work desktop, it's nice to have it....you can go and load RA anyways with 6.0, but it doesn't come with it)
4. Has some better screens for managing connections (IMO).

Why yes there is! Only recently some amazing devs on this forum (skywing) devised an amazingly simple process for activating internal GPS. I just did it last night and it took literally 3 minutes to do and I now have Live Search, Google Maps, Amaze, and two other GPS based apps running on it.
Refer to this forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=424387
There are a lot of posts in that forum, but the upshot is either do the very simple manual install mentioned in the first post (I did it, I am no expert, took me 3 minutes) or go to near the end and look for the URL of the wiki that has the latest one click cab files to install.

I use Skyfire to browse the web. It is comparable to the iphone browser and it works great. It is in beta, but so far I have only encoutnered a few websites that freak out on it (e.g. www.projectgutenberg.org).
For music, I like pocketmusic 5.1, a freeware app from Pocketmind. It only does mp3 files 9the shareware version does all file types) but it has a great touch friendly skin and nicely shuts off the phone but still plays music to save battery power. It works with my bluetooth headphones seemlessly. Only issue is that while active it commandeers your hard buttons, so if you want to use the hard buttons on the phone for other than music control you have to quit the app.
Other nice apps (I won't list them all!):
1. Total Commander in place of File Explorer. Allows you to have two windows open and drag and drop files.
2. Vade Mecum is a plucker reader that I use to read ebooks on my phone.
3. Live Search and Google Maps are an absolute must.
4. I like Icontact (Burt's version) which you can find on these forums. It is a finger friendly contact program that works wonderfully.
5. I dig Youtube player. You don't need it with Skyfire, but I like it for playing files I download off of youtube. It will search youtube and play video directly or download it in .flv format for later playing. Useful to save the clips I watch a lot (Monty Python sketches, Weird Al videos, etc.) on my phone.
Those are the biggies, IMO.
Regards,
Devin
Tiny application for Windows Media Player control via shortcuts. WMP must be running before executing any of this command. I hope some of you may find it useful.
Use following parameters (only one each time) in a shortcut.
-pause for play/pause
-volup for volume up
-voldown for volume down
-next for next track
-prev for previous track
For example
Code:
Shortcut-Volume-Up.lnk
00#"\Program Files\wmpcontrols.exe" -volup
It should work all WM 5 and later devices (both PPC/SP platforms).
Download
wmpcontrols.zip
very nice
this is really great for people using WMP... thankfully we have A_C's S2P
It'd be amazing, if we can control CorePlayer in this way! I hope you'll find a way to add this feature in near future.
antourage:
Sure, I will do that when I will have some time.
Do these same paths control the player functions of TF3D?
If they do it would be way cool to see A_C incorporate them into S2U2 and allow a user to pick to either cotrol S2P or WMP with his lock controls.
Curious G
Pure win. Thank you.
Doesn't coreplayer use wmp as a base? Or is that just the library functions?
Anyway, this is really useful for things like XMT and other widget type programs, thanks a lot.
[edit] One suggestion though.
Could we maybe get an installer or at least suggest a specified directory to put it in.
That way, if theme writers and stuff want to use it they know where it "should" reside.

Ok, I have updated the files. Plus the installer creates a folder in the Start Menu with all the current shortcuts (may be useful for easy hardware key assignment).
Stumbled upon this by chance.
Anyway, I'd want to recreate the old functionality of the media player buttons on my XPhone IIm and would like to know how to map these shortcuts to the buttons. Thnx
moneytoo,
Great app!
I've been able to remap some of the keys on my Diamond2:
(long press, 250 ms)
SEND: play/pause
WINKEY: previous track
BACK: next track
Exactly what I wanted!
Is there a way you can do the same with TouchFLO 3D's music tab (that would just be perfect)?
To g4g0:
You need to get a key remapper that is compatible with your device. xda it.
Thanks a lot, moneytoo!

It's possible with S2P ?
This program works on WM 6.5.x, or not?
No any reaction when I launch any shortcut for manage a WMP((
yes it works ok on 6.5
thanks for this app
Actually it may not work in some cases. The paths in the shortcut are for English rom (the "Program Files" folder has different names in different localizations). The shortcuts also expect to be installed in the device memory (storage memory or memory card will fail)
It's easy to fix though. Either open the various shortcuts using a text editor and change the path according to your localization or copy the program folder to the correct path.
zoidberg: I wanted to advice him of checking for correct path in links, but as he said, no response, that would mean links are ok, (no error) and the program is just calling wrong wParam/lParam as I suppose that's how it's controlling wmp.
In any lang mutation those should still be the same.
As well if he would change mapping inside wmp, that shouldn't have any effect.
Here I run out of ideas and just wrote: yes it's working in 6.5, just to eliminate possible problem for him.
Maybe he is using different player which is just skinned into wmp?? Or a complete strange version of wmp.
Hi All, I was wondering whether it is possible to make alphabets visible on right side near the scroll bar in the music library when accessing songs Album wise, which would give easy access to the albums starting with a particular letter. I am really missing this feature as I have to scroll down the entire list of albums in case my album starts with letter 'Z'. (
Is there anybody out there who has got solution for this? may be a reg tweak or something similar. I would be really grateful to them.
This has been brought up before and I think its a must really if you have lots of music.
Unfortunatly it seems to be one of those request that seems to get ignored by developers & HTC alike, I don't know why but its does. I really hope we have better luck with this thread.
there is an additional player for winmo with this funktion. but i would also prefer to have this function in the build in player. that this feature is missing just making me angry while using the player. also a build in search couldnt be that hard. htc devs are more or less brain afk while coding.
i am using cloudy 0.7 wm6.1 with manila 2.5.20183025.0 and i never really used the music tab before, in fact i deactivated it and always used coreplayer to listen to music and books on tape.
now i decided to give it another go and face some questions about that tab/player:
1. how do i exclude folders from the library or define certain files to be the sole library? i don't want hundreds of tracks from my audiobooks in there, just music.
2. i read of people mentioning sense's capabilities of downloading album art but i can't seem to find any option for that.
btw. if anybody knows a nice freeware/open source program (for windows pc) for automated sorting and renaming mp3s based on internet databases like cddb, where you have to check and do manually as little as possible, it would be very nice. unfortunately, most of my music is highly unsorted, and all programs i tested so far need to much work on the user side to not totally mess up and that way it would take me ages to get my stuff sorted out.
thanks
Tony
EDIT: additional information:
i realize, not exactly many people seem to use that rom these days, so to further clarify what version of the player this is all about, i attached some screenshots, so basicly anybody with the same version could drop some advice here

I cannot help with the HTC sense stuff, but i can recommend MP3tag I have used it for years to keep my music library in order.
It does need a bit of user input but i have found it very helpful, it is especially good at making sure all tags follow the same format & making sure that all data is in the correct fields, it can also import album art from a number of places.
I agree about mp3tag (I'm using it for years too), but...
mp3tag helps if music archive is at least partially organized... or you have a lot of time
But once you organize it... man, you can do with mp3tag small wonders...
I have never seen mp3tag downloading album art from anywhere
Still, I'm highly recommending mp3tag (check screenshot)
