MyTouch 1.2 Possible Brick (Anyone building a house?) - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Hey all. I have a MyTouch 3g 1.2 that was in the middle of a radio update when I dropped it and the battery fell out. I have searched this wonderful site and have came up empty. When I press the power button absolutely nothing happens. I can not get into recovery I can not adb or fastboot. Anyone have any ideas that can help me out?
Thanks!

Its bricked. Need to get replaced.

HMMM, take it to your local constuction site and see if they can use it... sorry bro. maybe you can tell your carrair that your computer failed or something on a update from htc's website, dont make it seem like your at fault. Usually you can work your magic and get another magic (no pun intended hahaha)

If it fell like a brick, then it must be a brick.
Sorry man but currently there are no ways to fix it other than getting it replaced (you might be able to look up JTAG, but that involves some SERIOUS work and not worth it in my opinin) but here is the link for the G1 to give you an idea of what would have to be done. http://r3nrut.com/?p=1 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591048
Like I said... not worth the effort.

Give us more background of how did you get Hermes brick ? I have been spending almost the whole last week trying to fix my Hermes and I have almost tried all methods provided by this forum. And perhaps we should share our experience for the benefit of the users here.
My problems is that the Hermes could boot up but it seems there are issues in the radio, ie "NO GSM". It keeps come and go which caused my Hermes (Softbank) very unstable when using the telephone functions.
heres the problem.
ill pay someone 50 bucks if they help me get this bad boy workin. im desperate.
i have the olipro 2.10 bootloader. it says spl-1.40.olipro. eh?
i can install the OS. im using Hermes_WM6_WWE_vp3G_v3.61.0_ATT_Full. it installs perfectly.
its the radio that is the problem. i try to update the radio and its stuck at 0%. ive been reading the stickys and looking at the types of bricks. i still cant get it to work.
i formatted my SDcard to fat32 and i copied the nbh file and put it to HERMIMG and it got to the screen but it freezes at GSM.
i put the GetDeviceData in the phone and ran it. got that txt and opened it from my desktop and it doesnt tell me my CID. but im from california. and im using cingular. haha damn. i know im being one of those damn annoying asses but...****. 50 bucks? someone?
my friend also has the same exact phone (cingular 8525) and her radio version is the 1.16 one.. and i tried to install that.. not workin it freezes
OK, need some info.
Which bootloader that you have 2.10Oli or 1.40 Oli?
What radio version that you have before your phone become brick?
holy ****. i fixed it. i ****ing fixed it. praise god! the sdcard method is a life saver.
i can TRY to help others. i have no idea. maybe i should do a video tutorial of how lucky i got. haha

taking it back to the store a good idea when it goes wrong?

(first of all, I didn't knew where else to post this topic to ask this, excuse me if it's posted somewhere wrong)
So I kinda gave up on my magic, R.i.P.
now i was wondering...
that if I take my phone back to the store... and that i shouldn't get a new one immediatly, bcuz they have to send it to htc facotry... how big is the chance they will know I rooted it and it didn't just mallfunction from its own?
or isn't it possible that they just throw in some new rom? They made it so it shouldn't be to hard to get that fixed...
anyone perhaps has experience with sending back his phone or going back to the store?
tell me what happened... did you get a new one, did you had to pay something to get it fixed or just bought a new phone...
all information is welcome either here on the board or by email first_dimension at hotmail dot com <-
thanks ahead guys...
greetings
a desperate dumazz belgian guy who ****ed up his phone badly
What has actually happened to your phone, can you describe the problem please, it may not have to go back to the repair center. Thanks
uhm, while flashing it, it fell down of my desk, battery got disconnected, ...
now i get my "proximus" (wich is my mobile provider) startup screen, wich doesn't go away
cant enter boot menu (by pressing menu + power on)
nor safe mode (home + power on)
cant even connect to my computer to flash a new rom or anything...
so it's completely bricked i been looking on the internet for days now tried every solution...
nada man...
nothing more than my startup screen...
(edit)
the only thing i can still do is like, when i hit the trackball and power on button it lights up a blue led...
but i read every magic does that even if not bricked...
I heard that someone thought they bricked their phone because they couldn't do anything with all the button combinations but when they tried fastboot it worked and unbricked their phone. I mean he didn't go into fastboot, he just plugged his phone in via usb and just tried fastboot.
I'm saying try fastboot. If that doesn't work then I'm sorry but you have to return it to get it fixed but since they can't get into anything I'm sure they won't know that it is bricked.
thanks for the reply m8, but i tried this already...
just sais waiting for device or sumthing...
i think i read that answer on some other board aswell that someone was lucky enuf to have that but not here, not in my case
bummer i guess...
My carrier offers insurance to replace a phone even if it was lost or stolen. If this was an option for you, I guess you would have already thought about reporting it "stolen," but I figured I'd mention it anyway.
Sorry to hear about your phone.
I bricked my mytouch and I just called T-mo customer service and they're sending me a replacement for free since it's still under warranty.

Stuck in bootloader --> Volume down is broken/stuck

Edit: Im stuck in bootloader with the only option to press power on is fastboot. and from there i cannot select any options because the navigation is broken. Im looking to restore it to factory so i can take it to the sprint store to have replaced. Please help me! Most likely an autorun from fastboot or a computer pushed through usb command promt that i can take over the phone. PLease HELP!
Have you tried the ruu? Its an executive file that you run from your computer and it restores your phone to stock. I've never had to run it so I cant tell you the exact details of how it works, but that could do the trick. I think there is a way also via using fastboot commands, but someone more intelligent then I will have to provide you with links. Also have you tried putting unrevoked forever s-on on your sd card and naming it PC36100.img then butting into hboot and letting it scan for that? Once it finds it, it should flash it on its own, then once youve done that, you can pull your sdcard again, delete that PC36100.img and put the PC36100.img that returns you to stock on your sdcard then boot into hboot again. It should find that image then flash you back to stock.
Ill try that. My down button is definatly either stuck, disconnected or something. When i press the up button and power it will Vibrate 5 times.
Ok i got the zip to load but my down and up buttons do nothing. is there a way i can have recovery auto run? or edit the hboot so that it automatically runs the recover.img?
Update: It's stuck in bootloader i guess... I restart and the volume down is stuck im pretty sure so it always goes to that. I have it hooked up to my computer, can i push commands through usb to it in bootloader menu...
Fastboot
...
....
Sim-lock
etc.
my only working option is to click power and have the fastboot initiate and then give me an option [1] ........ that i am unable to highlight or get to because of the stuck down button.

Load up nandroid?? im so out of the whole evo scene. can i have a link or procedure.... sorry for being a big noob.
If I can remember, running the stock ruu exe will do everything for you without any need for you to do anything with the phone to help it. Just make sure you have the htc sync program installed. Next make sure the phone is on and running (not in hboot or recovery). Plug the phone into the computer with the data cable. Make sure it's only in charge mode. Run the ruu exe. Be patient because it might take some time to start up. Make sure you have nothing running in the background on the pc. No antivirus or anything and I do mean anything. Don't touch or move the phone or cable while the ruu is running or you might risk bricking the phone if the connection between the phone and pc is interrupted. Don't let the computer go to sleep or standby. Make sure your phone's battery has a full charge. The ruu will make the phone reboot into upload mode. Then it will upload all the stuff the phone needs to be put back to factory. It might reboot the phone a few times. This is normal. You don't have to worry about the broken volume buttons interfering with ruu.
Lastly, make sure you remove your sd card before you get to the store to let the tech check it out. Don't offer any additional information. Just tell them the volume buttons stopped working and you did a full factory reset before you got there.
After running the ruu, don't sign into google account so your personal information won't be on the phone and none of the programs you bought will show up in the market. You should have a backup old phone with you so you or they can activate it for you in case they want to keep or swap it out. If they give you a refurb, power it up and test it at the counter to your satisfaction BEFORE you leave the counter and store. I noticed something wrong with the refurb they gave me and I'm glad I didn't walk away. The tech fixed the problem with the refurb (uneven backlighting on the screen). I was able to use my old screen with the refurb's guts and my screen didn't have any flaws in it.
You do what you want but this is my suggestion based on my experience with exchanging a defective phone. I have full insurance and or tep so it was a hassle free experience.

I already have a pre activated but i cannot get the phone to start without going into the Power+Down Menu... Can i run RUU from that? im not able to get it running on Android
I don't know. Something worse could happen but there's also a chance it might work. I am guessing ruu would tell it to reboot into upload mode. If the phone couldn't get into that mode the ruu might stop. This is just speculation. If you knew that the tech wouldn't bust you for having root, then I'd say to just take it in. It's a big risk in my opinion.
I don't know if there is a img file to fastboot flash a stock recovery. I don't know if that would help. Need to figure out a way to get the s-on and push stock back into it, or at the very least get s-on in hboot.
I'm thinking that because if the button is broke, and you can't get the phone past the hboot screen, then maybe the tech might not want to waste anymore time on it and just order a replacement. The hboot screen would be the only thing he could get into. I don't know but I think it could be helpful, maybe, if adb or something else could push an original rom into it at the screen it's stuck in. I think if you tried, if it wasn't working, the phone and adb wouldn't be communicating like normal and adb would not continue. I am guessing pushing a stock recovery wouldn't turn s-on. It would be great if it did.
I would say that talking with one of the devs that has got their hands dirty in hboot and fastboot, might give better advice. Perhaps they know of a way to force things into the phone that the general public wouldn't normally need to know or do. I am no expert. I suggest talking to people that developed in those areas. Didn't toast work with that?
I don't know what else to suggest. I'm running out of ideas.
I just had another idea. What if you could get a pc36img.zip, or whatever it's called, into root of the card and the phone will want to flash it. Only snag I can think of is I think hboot will ask if you want to flash or update or whatever it's called. That might be the down button. Maybe someone could run with that idea?
I would say read the rooting articles and see if you can adapt what they are saying to push stock everything back in instead of trying to root.
Even if you can't get the updated rom to install, if it can be pushed into the phone and the phone is made to boot like normal, the phone "should" try to apply it if anyone can get it to boot normally. I'm thinking that's another way to cover your ass.
If all else fails, then I would suggest to say a little prayer before going to the store and hope for a tech that isn't going to be a **** about it. Don't get an attitude towards the employees because that could make things much more difficult for you. A seasoned dev or a tech might be the only people that could help. Going into the irc channel for the evo and hanging around in there might get you hooked up with someone that could help more than the people that hang in the forums. I don't see serious devs hanging around the forum and bullshitting with the people there. Go where they might be, in irc. Be cool with them, don't be aggressive or flaky. If you are nice/cool with them, they might take the time away from what they are working on to help you.

thanks! were can i go to find this irc? ive gotten a recovery image on the evo's root micro sd in a pc3600 or w.e zip and gotten it to ask me if id like to run it but it wont go any further than that because i cant chose the option. I have a bit of nail glue and im thinking about trying to glue a hair pin to the down button and giving it a pull while i try and run or maybe i can break the button and say oh well... and then from there do it. I dont have any hex or w.e screw driver that are small enough to open the case and do the option described in page one of this forum. Thank you everyone for the help! and keep the ideas coming. I refuse to let this turn out bad, worst comes to worst ill replicate water damage or something and fry the damn thing. then bring it in as a brick.
Any guru's have a quick idea because i want to do this swap.. im so sick of the palm pre. Its like a baby compared to android.
The irc info should be on one of the stickies at the top of the forum. Shouldn't it say something like join us at #evo or something like that.
This is where you can be opening a can of worms, so you've been warned. You can go to sears I think and the tool section and I think they might sell those wierd screwdrivers. I found one that worked for my macbook's harddrive brackets. It's long, has a black handle and generally different colored caps on top of the handle. I kinda doubt radio shack would have it but you could try. Oh, and get a guitar pick to use a the tool to separate the two halves of the phone. I wouldn't use anything else or it might f up the plastic and be obvious you was inside. Maybe look for an evo teardown video somewhere to show you what to expect. Don't force anything!

Bricked or what?

Hi again guys. I dont know if i ralle can use the term bricked or not, but i guess so. After a funny day with a couple reboot and new "radio" image my Legend want start anymore. The screen is just black, even if i hold down vol down/up and power. So the big question.... Is this phone bricked? If so, can i fix it?
EDIT: The LED does not even respond when charger is plugged in.
Sorry for the lack of English.
if it is bricked - try this.
I dont even get to fastboot The phone is completely dead/black
Are you S-OFF? I've never known a S-ON Legend be completely bricked like that!
No i'm still S-ON because of the d*** HBOOT 1.01
Only thing i've done so far is root+CM7. And yesterday when i played around with ROM Manager i had to remove the battery upon a crash.
Apparently same problem as here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1096083

I think you are in trouble...
RomManager is maybe the source of your problems, what did you do with ?
Did you have errors during the radio installation process ? and which radio were you flashing ?
Here the story. I rooted my phone and switch to CM7 and notice that my GPS did not work with stock radio verision (dont remember wich) I upgraded to 7.08.35.21 and the GPS finally workt again with some minor interrups. Did some reading and decided to upgrade again to 7.13.35.05.
The installation went well untill the end. A picture was shown, a mailbox lookalike with an arrow pointing at a foolish looking droid dude. The only thing i could do was to remove the battery, after that the phone was dead.

me too it sucks
Is it still under warranty? (Obviously not as you're rooted, but would it be if you weren't rooted?) If so, try sending it to HTC they might just replace it if they can't see for themselves that you're rooted!
If you says its a firmware update that caused the phone to not turn on they just JTAG it without checking, reflash the latest update (and sadly HBOOT) and send it back

They will send it back unfixed and say the warranty is void. Even if they know its rooted they might still fix it for you, it depends.
It's my fault that the phone is broken and i'm willing to take that blame A clean conscience makes me sleep better at night
I dont know how it is in the rest of the world, but in my country there is a high fee if they notice that the owner has done something with the firmware etc. Thanks anyway for all the respons and help, and remember guys, stay away from Rom manager
You only have to say that it said update available then when it restarted it did this.. If they say anythign after its been sent then just plead ignorance. Its not like they cant afford to repair one phone

well i'm going to say something like that. Generally because my phone was buggered before then (signal problems and locking into airplane mode) though i'm rooted i still wouldn;t think i'd get away with it
does it matter if the root is S-ON i'm just thinking off my chances
PM sent, I can fix hard bricked Legends with JTAG.

[Q] HTC Magic bricked(?) after radio flash

Hi there,
your first thought might be: Ah jeez another one posting the same **** 2000 people posted before ^^. But anyways i think my problem is a special case:
yesterday i wanted to flash another radio to my htc magic via clockwork recovery. However something must have gone wrong. After the recovery rebooted my phone i got stuck at the "htc magic" splash screen. Pressing the home or the back or vol-down button or home and back button at the same time doesnt change the situation. still stuck at splash screen. fastboot and recovery dont seem to work.
After some really bad panicking minutes, i pulled the batery out of the phone and let it rest, while googling and searching the **** out of every forum on the net. Some minutes later i reassembled the battery and started the htc magic without pressing any other buttons, hoping it would juts boot and say "kidding ))" on the display. but yeah ... it didnt ^^.
Now im coming to the odd part, which differs from most other posts i saw on other forums and here on xda: after quite a while my htc magic suddenly made that "bling bling" sound, as it did whenever it started android successfully. i nearly burst into tears when i heard that sound, hoping that i would be able to access the phone via fastboot or adb. but ... i wasnt able to :S. the screen went black after that "bling bling" sound and stayed that way until i pulled the battery again.
i could repeat that procedure and reproduce the sound and behaviour, but i couldnt access the phone via any possible way i could find on the web :S.
hopefully somebody, who knows more can help. my last step would be jtagging the phone. but the tools are kinda pricy for such an "old" phone. and i couldnt find anyone in my area who could borrow me the tools or repair the phone for cheap money.
thanks in advance im counting on your knowledge
Try this low cost JTAG
tested by me with 2 T-Mobile Mytouch 3G
thanks for your fast response. if jtagging really is my last chance:
- what did you pay for all the parts of the schematic ?
- how long did it take you to put everything together?
- do i need a parallel port on my computer, or is it possible to use an usb port ?
- and do you think a newbie to smoldering and stuff could be successfully assembling all those parts?
- can you provide me with links and/or other pictures, which could help me?
thanks again for your effort
kinda exciting this whole thing :>
