Droid Incredible Screen - Droid Incredible General

Sorry if I'm not putting this in the right spot but, my friend got a Droid Incredible and some how his screen broke and he has no clue how. He gave it to me to try to get his data off, like pictures and so on but since nothing comes up on the screen I can't. Is there any command I can put in ADB to mount the phone? It didn't put his pictures on the SD Card, which I thought was odd, so I'm hoping it put them on the main phone storage, is there any way I can get into that so I can copy the pictures for him, they're from a family vacation he went on and really wants them. I know the phone still works because the soft buttons light up and when you hold the volume button and let go it beeps letting you know it's turned up, holding down it eventually vibrates letting you know it is now in vibration only. Could anyone help?

You don't need to use the touch screen to choose the mounting behavior if it's not saved in the settings.
If you plug the phone in, hit menu twice (to unlock the phone) and then scroll down twice on the optical pad(if screen was on you would be selecting the mount as disk drive option) click the optical pad (to select the option) then scroll down three times more on the optical pad( highlighting the done button) and click down.
If you did it correctly the phone should be mounted as a disk drive and you can get the data off. I tested this and the instruction is correct, this is assuming that you have not previously selected a behavior for the phone when it is mounted.
Hope it helps.

Or you could just hook up the phone and cd in to an empty folder on your comp then run "adb pull /emmc ." and yes that is a <space> then a period after /emmc.
I tested and this worked fine pulling my whole internal storage info off and on to my comp.
You could technically do this for any partition you wanted if he wanted to get his /data/data info off he could run it for that too.

I am experiencing a very similar issue. The screen often remains black, but the 'buttons' and screen touch seem to respond still. (Getting haptic feedback on the buttons and from some random-ish on-screen swiping.)
Sometimes I can get it to bootload screen. First time I wiped phone storage and rebooted, it worked for a few hours, then conked out again. Since then it has remained pretty much unusable. Occasionally I get the HTC screen to come up, or the bootload, and the next screen is a dim version of that screen with a bright horizontal bar across it.
One thing that makes me wonder a bit about battery here: the few times I've got it to come back up is usually when it's plugged in by USB and charging, and when I unplug it, the screen goes dim except for that same bright horizontal bar I mentioned previously.

Samsung Intercept
I have the exact same problem, but with the Intercept. Can anyone post a step by step guide to mounting or maybe post a video so I could follow blindly on my blackedout screen? Thanks.

It's a known issue. Sometimes a long press of the end-call button will bring up the display, but that's rare. It normally needs a soft-reset/battery out to reboot the phone.
It's obviously a software issue as the buttons light up when you press them, then turn off when they time-out, and then light up when pressed again, so the OS is still running happily in the background.
during my search and tries for applications and tweaks for the device, i remember i saw something that assign a display wake up on the long end press, and something that wake up on shaking the device, is there any confirmation if these tools solve this issue?

Nope - try them. You could be the hero that confirms it

Today was my turn to have that issue. Unfortunately :-(
I 've been looking for an answer, but there is no solution. Just a thread that talk about that the issue is caused by SD-card, corrupt files, formatting issue...
Please, do we have any solution for that issue? it started this morning and I have it 4 times today.

hmm. happened to me today. don't know what caused it.
I had this problem today as well for the first time. I thought it was to do with having the animated weather wallpaper and having rain. Today for the first time I had it predicting rain and my Leo kept saying "Loading touch sense" when coming out of lock. It's never done that before.
Then after an hour of lock it refused to wake, despite the physical keys lighting up.
I had this problem also today as well for the first time! But twice, so basically the first time and second time
First time phone wouldn't go on, touching the screen, hitting the spot where the lockslider was (in the dark), pressing short or pressing long on hard-buttons. The phone didn't respond at all.
Second time the hard-keys would light up, but phone refused to wake.
I had this problem.
Solution: Download an app called MemMaid and use the settings in post #75:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=596484&highlight=settings&page=8
For me it was the Disable Auto Device Lock.cab (in combination with windows exchange server) that caused the frequent HD2-doesn't-wake-up problem.
I uninstalled it and it is working fine again.
Have a look here, the exact same problem was discussed :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5386344#post5386344
Aaargh. Just happened to me again. So that's twice today.Locked it with Opera open. Went to toilet. Came back and Leo wouldn't come back. Again the physical keys were lighting, but the screen stayed dark.
I'm running standard ROM that came with phone, 1.48.405.2 and then official hot fixes on top. Only using apps that came with the phone too.
Not done any tweaking besides cosmetic through the standard phone options.
guys let's try to focus here, we all have/had this issue. So let's try to remember what's the last things we dis so we can find the common cause so we can identify it.
Well I said in my post above, I read (don't remember where! ) that the problem is related to the microSD card.
Was logical for me, because I kept copying, deleting, copying tow large files large files in parallel, I mean I stressed my microSD. By the way it's the one provided by HD2 with the copilot in it.
What I've done, is that removed the microSD for a while and there were no freeing again for like 4 hours, and it was with screen off for like 1 hour and half, come back from the fitness, and it's ok.
Once back home, I backed up all my MicroSD to my computer, then formatted it with HD2. After that I copied back all my data to my micrSD. So far so good.
hint: what's the official SD Card Storage Cards hotfix from HTC for?

Try to hold the Down+Menu+Power combination while INSERTING the battery into the device.
i try that seem to have no response and when unplugged from usb it loop at&t logo
or plugged in usb screen goes black and no response seem from pressing buttons
I had a similar problem as most phones in Canada seem to have Download/Recovery mode disabled, and here is what worked for me.
Grab something like One Click Un Root (all models), and click one click un root (obviously phone has to be on and plugged into the computer).
This should automatically reboot you into Recovery Mode!
All you have to do is "wipe data/factory default" or something like that (should be the third option).
As it states, you will loose all your data, but at least you will have a functionning phone!
did it work?
Hi. I have similar problem. Can anybody give instruction what can I do?
I have this problem too. Please help somebody
Add me to the list. Bell Galaxy S, went to unlock my phone the screen went black. Now it will not boot into the OS, the galaxy S splash screen displays then nothing. The menu and back button light up, thats all. ****[email protected]@
I have not rooted or anything.
Of course my download mode does not work.. Going to try this one click root thing if I can find it.
NOT HAPPY
This is not working. Probably because the phone is not in USB debugging mode as I can't change it... Is there any other way to get the phone into recovery mode?
**** me
i had the same thing happen to me the other day with my bell galaxy s and my phone wont do the 3 button combo trick. i left my phone plugged in to a wall charger for a while until the back of the phone became a little warm. i pulled the battery and then left the power cord plugged in and put the battery back in. i held the volume down and enter button until the battery charging indicator showed up, then i also pressed and held the power button until the boot animation started (this is the blue moving swirl and music, not the galaxy s splash scree) and then i let go of the power button. it took a few attempts at this before it actually worked, but eventually it will go into download mode at which time you can open the odin app, then plug in the usb cable and flash your phone that way. it did seem to make a difference if the back of the phone (around the camera area) was warm. if i let go of the power button while the music was playing and the phone did not enter download mode i would keep all 3 buttons pressed until it shut down again, then i would only let go of the power button while the phone initiated the charging screen, then once the battery logo was displayed i would hold the 3 buttons again and would just keep doing this until it went into download mode. i have flashed it at least 5 times today and i have been able to do this each time.
i also had an issue where odin would not recognize my phone was plugged in and windows would show a message saying the usb device was not recognized. i left the phone plugged in and while in download mode i pressed the volume up, enter button and power button until the phone went blank and when the galaxy s logo showed up i let go of the power button and the phone would go into recovery mode and then the usb drivers would be installed. i would then do the 3 button combo for download mode and odin would work fine. it took several attempts but it does work. i hope this helps you guys
If I hold all three buttons the splash screen does not come on, it just keeps looping the Galaxy S logo until I let go of the power button....

That's what mine did too, several times in a row and then it worked. For some reason it only works after the battery is charging for a bit and the back becomes warm. then it works at will
No luck. I am probably screwed getting it exchanged now too as I am passed the 14 days from Best Buy.
the on click thing doesn't work, if your phone is already bricked.
also it is not the phone's fault for not working, the phone was working properly before you tried the hacks.
whenever you do these kind of things you know you are entering into the "not supported" "not covered by warranty" zone.
in the worse case scenario, if you can no enter download mode to recover your phone, it'll be to take the phone back to bell and claim warranty on it, and prentent you don't know what happened to it.

Its my fault??
I did not hack my phone. Its not rooted, I did nothing to it.
By "unlock" I meant exactly that, unlock as in swiping the screen to unlock it.
The more I search the net the more posts I find of Galaxy S phones randomly bricking...
on the original message sounded more like you went to Unlock the phone, as in SIM unlock the phone using any of the tools available out there, and there has been already several people which had the same problem.
if you go back to Bell for an exchange, you better not use the word "unlock" rather use Swipe
as the message on the phone "swipe the screen to unlock"
there are no known issue about this causing the phone to brick.
if that is what happened to you, you should have started a new topic for people to help you, instead of hijacking the topic from the OP, as your issue is different from OP, the OP actually screwed up because he/she flashed the wrong ROM to the i9000
... anyways, Does it work if you reboot the phone?
I have rebooted the phone about 100 times. The phone crashed when I unlocked it to check a text I received. (not hacked). Has not booted up properly since. I have found many others with the same issue who have also not hacked/rooted/unlocked/ their phones.
Waiting on Best Buy to call me back. I am so pissed right now, I have been bragging to my friends and co-workers how awesome this phone is, one has already picked one up, I hope his doesn't brick too. Not recommending it to anyone anymore..
did you load a lot of MP3 to the phone?
can you boot into Recovery Mode?
in the recovery mode you can wipe the Cache and wipe the data
that should make your phone work normal again
it'll be best to open a topic to help you trouble shoot your interesting issue, as it's the first i've hear that you get a black screen after Swiping out of the lock screen
I can't get into recovery mode. I have tried every button combination I have found. I had about 2 GB of music on the phone. I also installed the Android SDK to try ADB, but since the phone is not in USB debugging mode it does not see it.

on the other topics relating to the 3 button not working.
have you tried the heating up method?
or the plugging the battery in, when all 3 buttons are pressed? (of course for this one you will need help from a friend, unless you are very skilled at keeping the 3 button on hold meanwhile able to slide in the battery in with out a 3rd hand)

HELP desire z screen wont turn on

Hi everyone, I got my desireZ back in November and it has been working perfect ever since, i have it rooted using VISIONary and everything was perfect until today. The phone was in my pocket and i was lsning to music, i looked at my phone and all i saw was a white line going from the top of the screen to the bottom, i pressed the power button to turn of the screen, then i pressed it again and now all I see is a black screen with the back light on.
I have tried to soft reset the phone, took out the battery sim card and left the phone for a while, came back turned it on and still the same thing black screen with the back light on... The touch screen works fine i still hear the phone receiving txt msges and emails, i can even receive phone calls, and answer them by sliding my finger across the screen like usual.
I am trying to do a hard reset of the phone but i can't do that cause even when i turn on the phone while holding the volume down key i still dont see anything on the screen
any help would be appreciated.
EDIT - after trying to open the keyboard a couple of times, now the screen turns on white... when i press the power button to turn of the screen and turn it back i see a fading effect where the screen slowly turn on from left to right (fades from black to white) and then stays white till i press the power button again....
Since i have rooted my phone, i dont belive i can take it to bell to fix it the way it is... and since i can't see the screen to perform a hard reset to remove the root (i dont have s-off) ... does anyone know of another method for doing this? maybe with connecting to a computer?

There is another thread on the forums about someone having the same issue. I believe there is a solution using adb on your PC to connect to the phone.
Not sure how 'tight' your service provider is, but if the screen is dead, and you are still under your warranty period, they may simply swap the device for you after doing some 'basic' tests and dump it into the bucket that goes back to the factory for refurb. The fact that it is rooted won't be discovered until much later, if ever, so it may not be an issue.
Good luck!

[Q] (Edited) Okay, so its not in APX Mode? Would like help recovering data

Hello, first let me apologize for making another thread on a possibly bricked tablet. Also I apologize if I didn't post this in the right place, being new and all. Thank you to anyone who takes the time to look at this.
My situation:
My tablet has been working fine until last night; it's been dropped once before from a substantial height (over 5 feet), and luckily only my screen cracked, which I replaced. This time however it fell about 2-3 feet from my bed, most likely landed on the power button side, and now it won't turn on.
The Power Light comes on
It vibrates
The backlight does NOT come on. No words. No logos. Nothing.
I tried plugging it into my computer but nothing happens. It's not rooted (as far as I know), and I don't think I had debugging on. It had Android 3.2.1 on it I believe; my computer is Win 7 64.
Edit: I was able to get another computer to recognize it, a Win 7 and 8. They both have it pop up as "Acer ICONIA TAB A500" and as a portable media device, but when I open it it says its Empty... no folders, nothing.
At this point I would just like to know if there is anyway to get the personal data off of it, there are a few documents that I had not backed up yet that I would really like, that were not on my external SD card. If its possible to get it working again that would be great too, but I've come to terms with the fact it might never. (I'm half tempted to strip it to the screen again and put it back, just to see if that might make it work...)
Edit 2 (sorry if anything sounds confusing): I don't know if this is helpful or not, but the tablet "sounds" like it goes to my lock screen (powers up, vibrates, wait a minute or two and then really softly vibrates again), although I still can't see anything. The power light then goes out, but if I put my ear to the open back I can "hear" it working. If I leave it alone and plugged in, the power light will flash from orange to white every couple of minutes (it will also do this unplugged). Also if I press the power button it will turn white, acting like its sleeping and I've woken it (this occurs whether plugged in or not), but I still have a black screen. Does this mean it might not be dead?
Can the screen be broken with no visible cracks or damage inside?
Another note, when I replaced my cracked screen when it fell those 5 feet about a year ago, I never changed the green piece (which I am assuming is the touch screen controller?) with the new one that came with the new screen+digitizer. Could that be acting up now?
I'll try and see if I can get my hands on a micro HDMI to test and see if it will show up on my TV/Computer. It should just be plug and go right? No setting that needs to be turned on?
Any help is greatly appreciated, and thank you for your time.

"Unfortunately, system UI has stopped" - and that's just the start!!

Hi all,
Hope I might be able to get some advice. Excuse me up front if I butcher the jargon and/or description of the issue, I am but a simple (very, some might say) mobile phone user. I know nothing of the mystical world of 'rooting', and other Andriody black art.
So, here goes.
My wife owns a Samsung Galaxy S5 which hasn't been modified (except for the installation of a few extra apps) since the day it left the Vodafone shop. Today, for no apparent/obvious reason, the following is happening:
Switch phone on, boots into home screen when "Unfortunately, system UI has stopped” message is displayed. Click 'OK', messages disappears for approx 2 seconds and then comes back. Too short a time to do anything else with the phone.
After around a minute, the phone then reboots itself.
Once rebooted -> home screen -> "Unfortunately, system UI has stopped” -> repeat.
The only thing I could see happening, in between pressing the 'OK' button dozens of times, was some automatic App updates (Facebook Messenger and Facebook Pages Manager, were the two I saw).
The back of the phone is also getting pretty damned hot - related?
I've read a few 'Help me' pages online and managed to get the phone into Safe Mode thinking I could at least have a little look around while it was stabile. Wrong. The message and endless reboot cycles still occurred.
I'm loathed to do a full reset as I can't extract the photos from the phone - the phone won't stay 'up' long enough for me to copy them onto my laptop. The phone connects and is recognised but when it reboots itself Windows Explorer cracks it.
I know a lot people say "I didn't do anything", the only thing I've done to the phone prior to this issue was to remove the rear cover and re-seat the SD card (Sandisk Ultra 32Gb, if that's any use).
I really appreciate the time you hopefully take to read this and (hopefully) help out an old boy like me. Thanks heaps in advance.

sorry to hear about your luck mate, but im sure we can figure a way around this issue. The first thing id try is wiping the cache and dalvik cache. that can be done by turning the phone completely off (in your case, probably just pull the battery and put it back after a few seconds), then hold volume +, the home button and power. the phone should vibrate and when it does, continue holding the first two, but release the power button. then itll boot into factory recovery. You use the volume buttons to navigate the menu, and power to select. Go to wipe cache, confirm wipe and reboot
Hi, thanks for the reply. I've just followed your suggested action but unfortunately the phone is still doing exactly the same thing.

np. ok, so you should be able to connect the phone to your computer in recovery and mount it so you can get the pictures off. After youve grabbed everything you need from the phone, then nuke it with Odin and the correct tar.md5 file and see what s what at that point
I agree. You might as well root it at that point.

Assume you mean the 'mount/system' option from the system menu (hold volume +, the home button and power)? If so, I select this option and it doesn't appear to do anything. It seems to accept the entry by confirming the action at the bottom of the screen. So, I select 'boot' (top option), the phone starts as usual and then begins the cycle of - error message -> reboot, etc, etc after approx 15-20 seconds.
Is there no way to access the internal physical memory of the phone (even by force) to access the data stored there? Thanks again.
