I just got this phone yesterday (Optus Australia - unlock), and encountering problems with it. However I seem to see some solutions appearing on various unofficial channels, and with different firmwares without a changelog, so I think I'll start listing my problems here in this thread, more as a record, and see if future updates will correct them.
My current problems:
7-Jul-2010
Firmware: 2.1-update1
Baseband: I9000DTJF3
Kernel: 2.6.29 root SE-S604#2
PDA: DTJF3
Phone: DTJF3
CSC: OPSJF1
1) wifi turning itself back on when an application needs some location data, even when it's turned off. This kills my 3G data.
2) GPS location and lock is very inaccurate
3) Gyro seems wrong
4) Camera function disabled during low battery, it really shouldn't do that
5) UI lag - I don't use multitasking that much, but I do see some black screen, not too annoying yet.
6) Locking up during file transfer - was transferring some big files to the microsd and the phone just wouldn't wake up
I have exactly the same problems and same firmware version. Let's hope it is a matter of firmware and some defective chip.

Got my new firmware via Kies yesterday. This is just a preliminary assessment but the firmware seemed to have solved the battery drain issue, or at least fixed it temporarily. Yes it appears that I'm still on Android 2.3.3.
I, like many around here, am not immune to the battery drain issues. After searching and reading countless threads on this Site, I managed to isolate the issue on my phone which was causing the battery drain issue.
Whenever, I turn on my wifi, two processes appear: Wifi Sharing and Wifi Sharing Manager, both remaining on even when I've switched off my Wifi. These two processes seemed to cause a massive battery drain on my phone, which makes it last no more than a day. This was evident in that the Android OS would take up to 50-60% of my computing power. I worked around this issue by killing those two processes immediately after I've finished my wifi session. Doing this, and remaining on 3G, I've been able to achieve on average two days of battery life (3 days if I turn the background sync off). The result of my workaround is that the display would take up the lions share of battery power, and the OS relegated to 18-20%
Now, with the new firmware, I noticed something interesting. After my wifi session has ended and I have turned off wifi, the to processes now appear to end on their own, without my intercession! However, I also noticed something else. Despite those to processes ending, my Android OS has continued to use 50-60% of my battery power, albeit, my battery life seems fine. As I write this, my phone has been on for 10h 8mins with Android OS taking up 49%, and my battery declining only to 93%. That's with 3G on and background sync enabled.
(I wish 2.3.4 would come out. I had a Nexus One which too had the Android OS bug back in 2.3.3 where the OS would take up 50-60% of the batter power. This problem was completely fixed in 2.3.4 for the Nexus One.)
Has anyone noticed this?
Thanks,
AJW
Thanks for sharing your observations, will observe as well on mine, yea, am also hoping 234 comes out quick. A tweet by SamFirmware implied 234 would be coming this month, not holding my breath though.
Noob question
Sorry guys, noob question - tried searching for this but couldn't find a thread so apologies if it's out there somewhere.
Just curious - in the long 'code' that the firmware is labelled in Kies as (see below), what do the component parts mean? What am I looking at?
Current firmware is: PDA:KE7 / PHONE:KE4 / CSC:KD1 (CPW)
'New' firmware is: PDA:KE3 / PHONE:KE7 / CSC:KD1 (CPW)
What is the 'PDA' part compared to the 'PHONE' or 'CSC' part? I'm guessing the bracket bit at the end is the retailer I brought it from (CarphoneWarehouse in my case).
Usually with improvements numbers go up! Why is the PDA number in the newer version lower than the current?
Told you it was a noob question
Cheers!

I guessing that the new firmware pda should actually be kF3?
Pda is the actual rom/firmware.
Phone is the modem/radio
Csc is the region/carrier.(iirc)

Hi,
Since i have updated the my audio call quality is to put it bluntly "rubbish" i have had few calls since updating yesterday to the official version and then rooted, and the call quality is so bad that i can't really understand what the end user is saying, maybe its just me but i might update again when the official 2.3.4 firmware is out.
Thanks

I also noticed the audio quality is no where near as good as it was on KE7
Hey guys,
I have had this 7.5 build for a while now and everything seemed fine to begin with. But now, within the last 3months or so, when ever I try to make a call, either 1) the phone freezes 2)the phone restarts itself straight away or 3)the call starts but I cant hear anything or see on the screen so I have to restart.
The battery also doesnt last more than 7-8 hours?! with all data settings, wifi, 3G off, brightness at the lowest, battery saver onand I even turn my phone off in the underground!
As a result I have to charge my phone to at least 60%-70% by 11pm otherwise my alarm work go off for work in the morning!
I am using the same radio version that came with the ROM, here are the details:
HTC schubert 7.5 build (os version 7.10.7740.16)
Radio software: 5.71.09.02a_22.51.50.21U
Radio hardware version: A.102.0.D4
Firmware revision: 2250.09.07491.605
Hardware revision: 0002
I have seen some questions about the various combinations of radio and builds? but I am wondering why it freezes still Is it a problem with the phone internals more than software maybe?
Thanks for your help,
Marc
freeze, restarts and speed problems is related to incompatible sdcard
for better battery time you must use radio combination 2.15/5.51 or 2.12/5.51 with camera trick (you have 5.71... this is battery draining radio)
all this explained countless times on forum
So just last night my VZW Note 3 became utterly slow and unresponsive. The best analogy I can give you is that it is like an Intel Pentium 3 trying to run Windows Vista. I haven't downloaded/installed or updated any new apps in days except for the Google Play Music app. Which I downgraded because I didn't like the new widget. I extracted the app from the the deodex NC2 ROM (so I know it's legit). I've even tried turning off all Xposed Modules and it still does the same thing. I've also noticed that all 4 CPU speeds hover around 70%-95% at all times (via Hyperdrive ROM monitor), however I can't find any running app using that much CPU. Anyone know what might be going on?
Other Symptoms:
- Extremely slow internet (over 4G and WiFi)
- Unable to download, instal or update app from Google Play, Xposed or SD Card
- Alarm and Timer do not work
- Major battery drain (only 2 hours trying different settings this morning)
- AVG found no malicious apps
Phone Specs:
- OS 4.4.2
- ROM is Hyperdrive RLS8
- Kernel Version is 3.4.0
- Baseband Version is N900VVRUBMJE
Any other info you might need on the phone I should be able to provide.
I upgraded from rsl7 to rsl8 and had the same issue. I figured something was causing errors but didn't feel like troubleshooting so I switched to a different Rom. If your able I would suggest to pull a logcat with the screen on and see what is logging down the system. Also if your able to get better battery stats and see what's causing the drain when the screen is off. I switched to objective because I can get all the customization through xposed. I loved the specs of the phone but not all the bloat or gimmicks (in my opinion)

mine does the same thing from time to time and I have yet to figure out why. The only thing that returns it to normal (or as normal as it gets with this latest Kitkat OTA debacle) is booting into recovery and clearing the cache files multiple times.
The short version: I have kernel wakelocks bluesleep and msm_serial_hs_dma, which keep my phone from going to deep sleep until I kill and disable the bluetooth-adapter-service.
This is what I tried till now:
I updated my Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505) from Android 4.4.2 (I9505XXUGNG8_I9505ATOGNF1_I9505XXUGNG8 ROM, Austria unbranded, phone was originally "3 Hutchison" branded) to 5.0.1 (I9505XXUHOE3), that was downloaded automatically via OTA. I rooted the phone with philz-touch (had rooted 4.4.2 also). I noticed a very heavy battery drain, but only after I had already "cleaned" some of the bloatware. Battery life was less than 10 hours, while it held out almost 2 days with my usage pattern on 4.4.2. So I did a factory reset, which didn't help. I started disabling services, including system services until the point where WIFI and bluetooth wouldn't work anymore at all (even enabling the services again didn't help). But at least I noticed that the battery drain was gone and it seemed to be one of the bluetooth system services.
Since I had to reinstall anyway, I used the I9505XXUHOF2_I9505OXAHOF2_I9505XXUHOF2 ROM (Germany unbranded, I couldn't find an Austrian UHOE3 or UHOF2 to download). Also did a factory reset of course. The battery drain was there again. This was even before rooting the phone, which I then did again to have more options to find the culprit (but I did not uninstall anything that came with stock). BBS showed me the bluesleep and msm_serial_hs_dma wakelocks. The wakelocks stayed no matter if bluetooth was enabled or not. I even flashed the modem on its own (although my phone info showed the right UHOF2 baseband before already), because this sometimes seemed to help people. Didn't change anything either.
In the end I narrowed it down to a single thing I have to do after installing stock (and rooting): disable the Bluetooth-> AdapterService (com.android.bluetooth.btservice.AdapterService) with the "Disable Service" app. The wakelocks are gone and I get almost two days of battery life (a little bit worse than on 4.4 though). Of course bluetooth will now not work at all until I reenable the service and reboot (and remember to disable and reboot as to not have my phone dead in a few hours).
I don't use bluetooth on a daily basis, but killing a system service can't be the solution. Why are the wakelocks there in the first place, even when I never had bluetooth active after a reboot? Are there different hardware revisions and you can't flash all you want? Since most people seem not to have a problem like this on a stock ROM after a factory reset, the only difference can be the hardware, or not?
Hi,
bumping your thread and a question for ya, is 5.0.1 that bad? I'm still on 4.4.2 stock and I did notice a OTA update notification, but I didn't accept it yet.

If the thing bluetooth wouldn't happen (which it obviously does not for everyone or the outcry would be much bigger), there's nothing wrong with it. After I killed bluetooth completely battery life is only slightly reduced compared to 4.4. I liked the dark look of 4.4 more though. Now everything has a bright background. But that's personal preference.
Hello, I have had this issue for a long while now and because nothing I tried fixed it I sort of gave up but now I’m hoping I can find some more help because it is still annoying me.
Roughly every hour or so my phone will pause/stop what it is doing until I press play or carry on what I’m doing, It is hard to explain but it depends what I am doing on my phone. For example, if I am playing a youtube video it will pause until I press play again, same with music on playerpro, If I am typing it will minimize the keyboard until I bring it back up.
It is very similar to what happens when you have an update from the Playstore and it finishes installing, it will pause/stop what you are doing but like I say I am not updating and I have checked all that background stuff and it still happens every 45 mins/hour.
I am very good with phones and computers and keep my phone tip top, no bloat, heavy usage or neglect and it is reset every 6 months for optimum performance.
Things I have tried:
Updated to newest software and apps
Reset phone/factory reset
Erased Cache
Uninstalled apps one by one to see if one is responsible
Checked background managers/app power saving and smart manager
Looked through developer options to see any unusual options enabled
Literally tried about everything I can think of which is why I am at my wits end
I really hope I can get some help with this and let me know if you need any further information.
Thank you
