iPhone-like "picture" app?

So my AT&T 8525 died around Christmas. I wanted to get a Touch Cruise, but the overseas inflated prices are KILLING me. So for the time being, I've gotten a Blackjack II and I'm waiting for the next big thing.
Yesterday, I went to an Apple store and played with an iPhone for about 15 minutes. The coolest things about it, IMHO...
1) The picture functionality - While turning the phone and watching the pic switch too is nice, and sliding between pics is excellent, what I REALLY like is spreading your fingers to zoom! That's amazing!!! Do any Win programs have that functionality?!?!?!?
2) The weather - Having the city, then the extended forcast is nice. But what I didn't realize before is you can add multiple cities and scroll between them with your figure... just like you can flip screen on a Touch! That was just sweet!
3) Google maps on my Blackjack II is nice, but Google Maps on a touchscreen phone just rules. And it feels so smooth on the iPhone, it's like it was MADE for it. Damn...
And I assume the video is smoother on the iPhone, especially watching YouTube videos... but I must admit I didn't try that.
If anyone knows of an app that lets you look at pictures like an iPhone... I'd LOVE to upgrade my old Sprint 6700 to WM6 and then use that phone to play with images until my figure falls off.

This is a multitouch screen thing, and no I don't believe there are any WM devices out with multitouch.

Uh...the version on the iPhone was made for it. There's a version for WM too that works just the same.

try the s2v program... (slide to view)... almost like the iphone picture app... this program is nice and its free... thanx to A_C for developing another great app... kudos....

there are tons upon tons of new photo viewing apps for WM, ever since the iPhone's release.

2)tons upon tons of applications for weather, and many are skinnable. so although you probably can't get the slide, you can get some really great looking skins for apps like WeatherPanel. There's PhatPhinger, iPhone themes (looks like the iPhone's. no sliding, though), etc etc
3)Google Maps? Really? It's been out for ages for Palm and Windows Mobile. Shockingly to many, even before the iPhone came out.

There's even a maps application from Microsoft, Live Search, that is actually more fully featured than Google Maps, whether it's on WM or the iPhone. Just ignore that it's from Microsoft, it's actually a great app.

Any links to this app? Did a search here, as well as on Yahoo, but no dice.

i think i know why. it's because you're using yahoo instead of google
only kidding, to each his own. however, with google,
"slide to view" yields the correct result 6th
"slide2view" yields the correct result for the entire first page
and "s2v", yields 4th, 7th, & 8th
i'll give the benefit of the doubt, though, because "slide to view" doesn't show up anywhere when searching with yahoo or the Xda Search. you need that "2" in there, lol.

Porting the 2.2 htc camera.apk and others to stock 2.2 android?

I am a fan of cyanogenmod, as many others, but i hate the stock android camera app. so my request is that someone good with porting/baksmali can port this apk and make it work. i think the camera app is the only disadvantage of stock android/cyanogen.

I am desperate for the HTC camera / 720p camcorder for a ROM without sense

count me in hate the stock camera/video app not many settings to play whit

the issue that will probably come to light is that it will no doubt need the htc sense framework, not sure if just the frame work can be ported or not

the contact app would also be sweet ^_^

The contact app is lovely on the stock HTC Desire sense 2.1
What I really miss about the camera is the tap to focus/hold to take photo part. I took some photos at a concert the other night on the stock android camera and it just could NOT hold focus.

The contacts app on Sense is horrible. I find it really slow and unpleasent to use. I'm fairly sure that it plays a large role in Facebook sync not working.
I would love the Sense calendar though.
Also, the Sense browser (well, just the text selection bit) and the Sense USB connection type screen would be amazing!
Or if the official Facebook and Twitter would integrate into a Sense rom like they do in Opendesire / any other Android build, it'd be fantastic.

The upcoming open desire rom may have 720p. Not sure if this means the htc camera or not, but it's a start

Paul O'Briain has posted it over to his Nexus roms, so that could be worth a look at.

Same! HTC Camera and Contacts would be nice in CyanogenMod 6!

The text selection would be amazing. The default Froyo text selection is so poor in comparison. I'd happily pay for good text selection.

There's a thread in the Dev forum from a chap attempting to port the Nexus/Modaco Camera across to OpenDesire.

android gallery is disappointing

it's slow in loading folders and images. image viewing is blurry for about 2 second before appearing normaly. it doesn't display images automatically in landscape like in hd2 winmo. overall, the gallery kinda sucks. can i get hd2 winmo camera and gallery in android?

My gallery is working fine. No blurry images when viewing and it loads and displays fine while in landscape mode. What Rom are you running? Are you using the gallery from sense or the stock Android one?

heh, in many aspects android is building compared to winmo's orange, but not in gallery. in android, you have to rotate the pic to get it in landscape, right?

i run nexushd2 so i guess it uses the stock android one./

"Photo folders" app from market is better than the one suggested above. Give it a try ....

use a htc sense build...gallery is just like winmo cuz that also had htc sense.

the problem is, i'm bored of sense

Sometimes I think the 1.6 Gallery was better.. 1/4 of my 300 images never generate thumbnails and just stay as transparent or grey boxes.

Get a decent SD card ... class 6 or something

what happened to the pre GB photo frame?

just updated to GB, Alien Rom.
Just wondering if GB does not have the photo frame widget that 2.2 did.
I am talking about the one where you just choose one photo, and if the photo widget is clicked, it only shows you that photo in an isolated screen

Alien has some motoblur removed. I'm sure there is an app in the android market that does this, but if not, try a stock gingerbread rom that had a full motoblur.

I noticed the same issue on stock ROM's. I think this was a "feature" of the 2.3 blur. I've been looking for an app in the market (both Google and Amazon) to do the same thing but I haven't had any luck yet.
I'd appreciate any tips or suggestions as well!

The facebook app doesn't really works nice in the N10, photos are huge in the friends feed.
I have added a shortcut to the web version of facebook and it works much better. However sending messages is painful and of course doesn't have real android notifications.
So what are you using to access Facebook in the Nexus 10? Have you guys tried friendcaster?

I've been using friendcaster and it's been ok. It uses the screen real estate pretty well just some odd bugs and a few features missing. It works well enough though and there's some customization which is nice. Download the free version to try out, the ads are on the bottom but since the screen is so big you don't even notice it. If you don't like it..... Un install!

I just use the browser whereever possible. Keyt concern is the VERY relaxed attitide many app devs, especially facebook etc, have towards your personal info (address book
etc).
Exception is google, in for a penny in for a pound with them lol.

You could have the facebook app installed for the notifications, but use the browser to actively use facebook. Much better experience, just some minor weird glitches when viewing photos. It's what I do.

I'm using Friendcaster and think it's pretty good - better than the official Facebook app, anyhow...

You will have missing posts using third party apps due to security settings individual users can configure lately I have been using a browser for fb more and more often. Tired of the ginormous photos in landscape mode with the app. If you hold device in portrait it's better at least.
