LOL. Hard to see sprint calling it in for LTE. The have spent so much money on wimax that it will probably push them under if that happens.
ATT & Verizon is automatic with the fees. This will happen sometime before March roles in. LOL.
T-Mobile will probably get brought out by ATT. Just because they both use GSAM network. But then again, T-Mobile is really big in Europe , so they will probably sell T-Mobile USA.

I have read a lot of threads about what is Sprint going to announce & every single one of them has people saying it's going to be the iphone or a 4G Iphone. Use Google & find how much $ Verizon has & will shell out to get the Iphone. Yes they will make much more in three long run, but I just don't see Sprint spending billions of dollars just to get the Iphone which would not even be an industry first. Don't u think if Apple was going to make a 4G iphone they soul have implemented lte in their Verizon version?

+1 on the iPhone 4g. Sprint big money is going to their network.
Sprint will have both LTE and Wimax, Wimax isn't a wasted investment. They can do both.
Sprint squashed the rumor on the iphone coming to their network via twitter weeks ago. How do people still think this is the big announcement?
I believe Verizon is paying for exclusivity for them and AT&T only to have it for the next few years.
Hopefully its about an update for current Android capable phones to get Gingerbread finally.
With Sprint, I guarantee it won't be a "big announcement". Mediocre announcement at best...
hmm
an iphone 4 with wimax vs a 3d crap...
Wonder which one is better.
Which is better? Anything with Android is better. Why put down 3d phone, especially when you haven't seen it. And don't compare it with TVs, it might be a different experience. I am very interested. Much more interesting then a ho-hum friggin iPhone fer chissakes. Boy, why lower you bar for tech. It should be something new and potentially cool. Just my opinion.

I had a conversation with Sprint and although they did not say what the announcement was the rep did say its an industry first. The iPhone isn't an industry first although a 4G iPhone may be. If it was something to do with the iPhone Apple would probably announce it and not Sprint. Apple like to run their own rodeos. A 3D phone would be a first and if its anything like the Nintendo DS 3D it would be kind of cool but I don't know what platform they would run it on. Windows phone and Android aren't designed for this type of thing.

And no, it doesn't.
Waste of TIME! I personally think it would be a good thing. Bigger/Biggest network to start, not like TMO employees would go anywhere, they'd still be there except working for AT&T, might teach AT&T CSR's a thing or two. Just my opinion though, and personally I don't that petition will amount to anything other than wishful thinking. I could/may be wrong but I don't think so.
Doesn't hurt
personally, I'm so mad about this I don't want to have a phone in 12 months if att/sprint/vw are the only options. Meh, take it as you will--just re-posting jIC.
If you want a petition that actually stands a tiny chance of going somewhere, try to get Google to buy T-Mobile. AT&T doesn't give a **** what some developers on an Android forum think. Google does, since this group of people helps expand their OS.

found the following and it might be helpful (maybe):
http://www.cell-phone-towers.com/will-the-att-merger-with-tmobile-help-consumers.html
AT&T doesn't care about customers. Sure it will be nice to claim most wireless customers in the US, but the real reason they're buying T-Mobile is for wireless spectrum. 39B USD is a nice deal for added wireless spectrum and the added customers is a nice bonus.
Write/call your congressional representative or the FCC. It'll mean more than signing an internet petition.
would there be a way to actually get out of contract BEFORE the merger starts without paying ETF because of this move?

If AT&T/T-Mo doesn't merge Verizon will have almost a monopoly on LTE becuase they gobbled up so much spectrum and will have such big coverage.
Sprint pretty much sacked themselves with the WiMax bull****. That was a bad move and it didn't really benefit them in the long-run, IMO, since GSM networks were able to upgrade to HSPA+ so quickly and cheaply (software upgrade) and rival their WiMax speeds (which is expensive to build out, not to mention those WiMax phones have terribad battery life when using 4G).
Sprint is complaining. Verizon doesn't care.
Do I care? No. I need at least 3G where I live and no carrier has it here yet, except AT&T. They're the only ones around here who are building their network out in rural areas. T-Mobile's network is too small. It's terribad for people who travel, too.
I hope this happens sooner than later. AT&T has better phones as well. And I've never had any CS issues with them...

I hate to say this I really do.
But they have the cash... The cash can easily be spent on making the network the fastest there is. I wish a company with the $$$ would do this.
This is the first thing that I have ever read that involves Apple that sounds like a good idea to me. If Apple does buy the network they WILL put the money into the network to make it much better. Most likely the fastest of ALL networks not just the major 4. I hate Apple, I mean I really hate Apple, but if this does happen we could have a major overhaul of our network and we would actually get great speeds as opposed to the decent speeds in some areas and terrible speeds in other areas. I say for the first time ever to Apple, GO FOR IT!

I agree but I also have some reservations on this, mainly pricing. Everything apple makes tends to be on the expensive side. I'm on Sprint not because it carries the phone I want or because it's got the best coverage, but because it's the cheapest carrier for high end smart phones that include everything you need. No extra charges for GPS access or unlimited texting or anything goofy like that. Point I guess is that if Apple does buy Sprint I hope the pricing stays the same. Otherwise I'll probably have to move back over to Verizon or T-Mobile.

You're a moron. Apple is not the cause of the throttling.
Apple makes hardware, and they've chosen a business model to make hardware for certain carriers, either because it made sense, or because that particular carrier bought exclusive rights. Don't quote me, but I think they sell the iPhone in a lot of countries. I don't think it would make much sense for Sprint, but then again they've been doing a lot of little stuff as side-business/sub-business because there is a market for it.
^^ ^^ Apple makes software. Not hardware. They buy hardware from multitude of companies

1st off I'll let everyone know that I'm not a complete moron. I admit I can't build my own ROM but I can't see why this would violate any antitrust laws. How would this be any different than when the iPhone was only on AT&T? If you wanted an iPhone then you basically were stuck with AT&T. Plus when you have as much cash as Apple has you can "buy" a waiver from the government. Unless I'm missing something I can't see any way Apple buying Sprint would/could harm other mobile carriers other than those carriers couldn't sell the iPhone.
Antitrust, anticompetition, and a step toward monopolizing the industry. FCC cockblocked the at&t/t-moble merge, making the mere notion of Apple owning it's own carrier ludicrous at best.

A carrier owning their own Network is completely fine under the law. If they wanna pay for it, it's theirs to have. As long as they aren't limiting peoples choice of networks, it's all fine. Clearly Apple would not be doing this. There are other carriers, and nothing Apple can ever do will make you unable to simply switch to one of them. Even if they made future iPhones Sprint exclusives, in the eyes of the law that is their god-given right and there's nothing shady or illegal about it. You *still* have a choice of networks, no one said you have a right to buy an iPhone.
And anyway, Apple will NEVER(mark my words) make an iPhone Sprint exclusive(except maybe for a few weeks at launch). This would be a slap in the face to all the people who support them(literally EVERYONE OF THEM at this point) by buying iPhones while on other networks. Not to mention Sprint is a very small Network and will always be compared to the big two, and nothing Apple can do is gonna change that. So why would they limit themselves in that way?
But despite everything you might read, Apple likely has NO interest in buying Sprint. Why the hell would they? Give me one logical reason? It just makes no sense what-so-ever. But those of you are are using Anti-Trust Law as a reason why it wouldn't be possible really need to look up Anti-Trust in a dictionary because Apple having a foothold in 2 entirely separate but logically linked fields isn't even remotely close to a monopoly. A monopoly of what? Them owning Sprint can't effect your choice of carrier OR handsets. Them owning Apple can't either.
@ landora, in your honest opinion, do you think this would pass through the FCC?
However, I totally agree with your business angle. It would shock me if Apple ever made an attempt to either merge or takeover one of the existing carriers. Cost would make it a huge risk, and too much capital and attention would be devoted toward raising customer satisfaction levels that meet their high standards.
I never said it was against the law, I listed reasons the FCC might consider if this ever got thrown their way. If this crazy notion ever made it through...and not that it would make business sense, what's stopping them from mailing free iPhones to their competitor's customers offering them better carrier service and pricing. Owning both entities could eventually pay off. Initially take a loss on the phone, a later profit from carrier fees. Existing carriers begin to fold not able to compete as Apple gains market share.
All this said without factoring in the broadband packages they could offer if customers purchasrd their macbooks or macpros.
This analogy is extreme, but how different would this be if say British Petroleum decided to by Toyota or Ford?

I think this would be good, in coming customers who wish to have an iphone with a network you don't have to worry about usage, whih is what a lot of new apple users are looking for. Ease of use and no issues, well I don't necessarily agree with that. but being how well apple helped verizon I think it could actually help sprint add to their network and net worth.

This is great for Apple, but not so much for Sprint. Apparently they haven't seen how Android sales numbers are trending against Apple. $20BB is a lot to gamble on another company -- especially when you are hoping that every future phone the make will continue to be a hit, even with their decreasing market share.... Kinda late to be a fanboy, but oh well.

Android phones are better in my option; however, there is a large number of people that need a Fisher-Price type phone. These people cannot be allowed to have unlimited options. They are people that cannot understand words like; root, rom or even kernel when applied to a cell phone. For this demographic Apple creates the best "Fisher-Price" phone. Sheepeople are told this is the way your phone works, these are your only apps and you will be happy.
Sprint should be able to greatly increase its customers with the addition of this "phone." The only downside is when you are trying to contact customer service about a real issue; you will have to wait on hold while someone is told "open the box. The box your phone came in. Sprint should be able to greatly increase its customers with the addition of this "phone." The only downside is when you are trying to contact customer service about a real issue; you will have to wait on hold while someone is told "open the box. The box your phone came in. The black and yellow box with Sprint and iPhone on it. You have to take the phone out of the box to make a call......"

LMFAO!!!
The way people use data on their iPhones, we're bound to be heading for tiered data plans. Seriously though Sprint with so many other places to stuff your money you choose apple? Why not invest in your ever so slow network. Especially since they aren't going to see a profit from doing this until 2013.(no exaggeration)

As an irrelevant side note, pandora only uses about 30-45mb an hour to run. You could run pandora 24x7 for a week before you hit a 5gb cap.
perhaps I'm missing something, but this seems like an awful big gamble to stake on what, for all intents and purposes, has been revealed to be a 16-month old phone brought to a new carrier. I don't see enough differentiation between the 4 and the 4s to warrant the size of this investment. So, either Sprint's banking solely on the name recognition of iPhone or they anticipate a superior device being delivered sooner rather than later.
Great idea. Invest billions in the next greatest thing to hit the market. Oh wait....the iPhone has been around for years and is losing marketshare at a rapid pace and is in litigation wars with just about every other phone manufacturer. Hitching your cart to the wrong horse in my opinion.
Anyone who wants an iPhone already has one. I doubt there are that many people dying to jump on Sprint with the lack of iPhone being the only thing holding them back.
Wow... Sprint is just fail..
WTF did they do with all that money? It is not even exclusive.
What's going on????????
I was lil bit hyped possibility of owning new iPhone exclusively (note: for resell)..
Hmm... fail Sprint... fail...
p.s. also sprint was mentioned for like 2 seconds during apple presentation.
