Update for HTC HD2 (O2) UMTS900 Band - HD2 General

Anyone had any problems or improvements with this.
I work in the middle of London and suffer from poor reception due to this buildings construction.
Once people start leaving my reception improves so i cant tell yet but i currently have move bars internally than i have had ever.

I had issue with no 3G signal since upgrading to ROM 1.72.206.3.
Now installed the "Update for HTC HD2 (O2) UMTS900 Band" but still having issues. Seems to get 3G signal when I reboot but then looses it and doesn't come back.
Anyone else having same issue?

Does that mean that all of our HD2's are hardware-wise capable of UMTS at 900Mhz?
If so can this O2 only update be reverse-engineered to apply to Vodafone handsets too or those handsets running custom ROM's?

I take it that this update won't work with the standard HTC ROM?
Just typical though. When I bought my HD2 (O2) I flashed it to the generic HTC ROM to get away from all the O2 crap on the phone. Since then all the updates are coming for O2 and Vodafone and none for the standard HTC generic ROM. Have HTC given up on producing generic updates? I would have thought we'd have seen more updates for the generic ROM but it looks like I was wrong
Cheers,
Richard.

the regular leo already supports 900, i believe this is just a software update. (coincidentally, my phone refused to lock on to o2 for calls and data last night for about an hour, and ever since I've shown more bars in places where i get 1 bar, I'm now getting 2/3),, maybe they're going live with a network upgrade?)

probably only applies to phones on o2 network, but it installed fine in mine with a 2.13 based cooked rom. can't see any difference except that it already got better last nightbefore i applied this just now.

Really? I am running this rom and it has telstra all over it... pretty restrictive to be honest
that's because you have to put your devices serial number and it picks the best ROM suited to the device. I have "RUU_BlackStone_Telstra_WWE_1.21.841.1_Radio_52.57.25.30_1.10.25.25_Ship.exe" version if your interested? I'll provide a download link when I get home from work...
Excuse my ignorance...but why would you want a telstra ROM in Canada?

People are hoping that the Telstra model will work with North American 3G, and that there's some way to extract that functionality via software.
I have yet to hear a consensus on whether it's possible or not, though. One poster will say that without a doubt it's impossible, that lack of 3G is 100% hardware based, and another will say that is most definitely is a software/radio ROM issue.
I can't wait for some sort of verdict.
i know what u mean if it aint the t8285 model it won't work with 850 umts...
heres a link to the rom anyway guys... http://dutch7.com/blackstone
850 on hd t8282
I'm not sure how or waht the difference is between 8282 and 8285. However, I have a 8282 bought in Australia from, I believe, a reputable firm. While it didn't come with the Telstra Rom it was advertised as being NextG compatable. I get full download speed (compared to my Diamond) and the H symbol is showing most of the time. I had always thought that the 850 compatability was more to do with Radio's than hardware. Especially when this phone has been sold in both markets for a while now. But maybe I'm just imagining the speed. The HD is not yet as good as the Diamond indoors out on the fringes of Melbourne where I live. But it is as good as most Nokias.
well i guess testing it wont hurt. i would want to give it a try too.

Yours originally is T8285 but they flashed the T8282 rom, thats why it shows that is T8282.
My phone is T8282 after i flashed the Telstra rom it become T8285.....but still not compatible of the NextG
The "H" is HSDPA and isnt 850 dependant. Just means that it goes to 7.2/2.0 which again isnt 850 dependant. NextG, like North America is 850mhz. You can have HSDPA on any 3G network (Optus, 3, Voda etc) which use 1800/2100 if im not mistaken?
8285 is the NextG/850 version. Nearly all Telstra-sold phones are 850 versions. Have to be very careful as they have different Radio Hardware

Touch HD in Canada

HI Guys,
Looking to buy a Touch HD to run on the Rogers network in Canada.
Keen to hear from others who are already using the phone in Canada to hear of their experiences of the device running on Rogers?
Also seen that the 850 3G band device is now available in Australia so was thinking this might give me 3G in Canada. Anybody imported one into N. America and had any luck with this?
Thanks,
P
I have one on Fido/Rogers near Toronto, works great besides no 3G. Such a solid device and edge is fast enough for web surfing and email on devices like this due to bottlenecks in hardware. Wifi, Bluetooth and GPS are also strong on the Touch HD too.
The Telestra model may work on 850, mine is 900/2100 though

Thanks for the info. Has anybody actually got the Telestra model working on 3g in north america?
I agree with Zero...everything except 3G works well here (Vancouver). I've even got Caller Name Display going, which is great.
I am also using one here in Toronto. As with all above, everything works well except 3g.
Toronto here too. Works great. I use WIFI mostly and it works great. Won't pay the ridiculous monthly fees that Rogers charges for data. I bought mine from pdaplaza.ca in Quebec.
i think all of us got it early before the Telsa one came out so none of us will be using 3G here.
I just flashed the Telsa rom.....still no 3G.......suck....

Yes I would get the Telstra HD as well. Even if it's slightly more money. The 3G is worth it.

I have the T8285 (Telstra version) in Montreal. Works great on 3G network (Rogers). I have a solid and fast HSDPA when browsing the Internet.
It was working with original ROM, but flashed a Dutty 6.1 ROM the first day. I flashed few Dutty's 6.1 updates, and now I run Dutty 6.5 R8 without any issue. Those last ROMs are "shipped" with Radio 1.14, but I reverted to Radio 1.10 because the sound level was to low for my taste with Radio 1.14 (but was still working).
I have also tested a few 6.5 Miri ROM (working well).
So, I did not experienced any issue with any ROM...
Touch HD with Fido
Hello, I am using touch hd from sweden and now I am using with fido in Kitchener Ontario, but I can not get good signals and hardly can call any one and can't recieve calls, however if I am outside then I can get better signals and can call or recieve. I have a feeling it is because of 900 frequency. Is any one have idea what I can do? Thanks
touch HD T8282 working very well in Toronto except 3G. I have stock 1.56 rom WWE radio 1.13.25.24 very clear and strong signal even indoors
You need T8285 hardware. no matter you do (flashing radio and rom). It won't change the UMTS signal to 850. It is hardware related.

HTC HD2, Telstra and Australia! [RELEASE DATES!]

Hi guys,
I received word late yesterday from my contacts that Telstra will be supplying the HD2 exclusively for at least 2-3 months on the NextG network.
No word on pricing yet but I have got a loose release date! For us Aussies the wait isn't too great which is a bit of a surprise for me, I thought we'd wind up being last! So without further ado:
Just wanted to let you know we finally have an idea on the Touch HD2;
Touch HD 2 – Due for release mid - late January. Exclusive to Telstra for 2 - 3 months. Launching with Windows Mobile 6.5

I guess anyone not on Telstra can just use an imported one... Blue Fly Mobile are selling them for $900 at the moment.
Do you know if the "official" Australian version will have anything special that a UK one, for example, doesn't have?

A NextG compatible version is what I am after so I am holding out for it.
Basically Telstra bloatware will be the only special thing on it haha. Which I'll remove with cooking my own ROM. And of course NextG compatibility.
Hopefully the main difference will be that it will have the 850 3G band, like the Touch HD did, which will make it useable on most of AT&T's 3G network in the US.

Yea, a sweet US 3G radio.
it seems a telstra rom already leaked (841 is telstra rom code)
ftp://rom:[email protected]/Leo_HD2/Official/Leo_1.49.841.1_21869_WWE_OS.NB.rar
btw, what does it mean that the phone is only exclusive for 2-3 months? So for those 2-3mos, you can only get it through telstra (no e-retailers)? Can you get it sim-free during this time or after that time?

it simply means that in Australia, the Australian mobile phone networks like Vodaphone, Telstra, Optus, T-mobile,etc will have to wait a few months before they can have the option of selling it on their networks.
you can still get the device anywhere else in the world unlocked and as long as the device has the right network frequencies for your SIM card then you'll be fine. there are slightly different HD2's made for the world markets, because not all countries use the same network frequencies (USA being the odd-man-out of the world)
i bought my HD2 from the UK (Handtech) delivered for Au $840. the frequencies are a match for my 3mobile SIM card and the device is "unlocked" so i don't have any bull**** about vendor locking and software bloat.
Telstra/AT&T
Please post here when it is available through on online retailer with the 850Mhz Band so that US buyers on AT&T can rejoice and spend some dough...
Thanks
Am I reading this correct that the HD2 will not work on NextG? Is there a fix for this?
tchoklat
I highly doubt a Telstra released 3G mobile wouldn't work on their NextG network, kinda defeats the point.

Because the HD2 runs on UMTS 900/2100MHz. You have to wait for HTC to release another model that's NextG compatible (runs 850/2100MHz UMTS) in early 2010.

use it as a $800 coaster.
or sell it.
I'm using the HD2 imported from overseas 2 weeks ago through one of those dodgy Australian online retailers (electronicbazaar.com.au) and I'm happily using my nextG simcard without problems.
The phone was shipped from HK.
I have no problems browsing or coverage but technically I shouldn't be getting access to the network.
I guess the question remains as to whether I'm accessing the nextG network or not. The carrier name is "3G 3Telstra" on the dialer and I get the "H" symbol come up on the phone. That looks good enough for me.
This information, plus p3ngwin's use of the phone on 3Mobile suggests it's not accurate to say that we can't use an unbranded Leo in Australia...
@tchoklat - have you tried using the phone yet with your NextG SIM?
Yes it fails to log on and I only see the odd 'G' or 'E' come up suggesting sporadic connection to the 3G network, not NextG. I understand that the 'H' means HSPDA or NextG

In a way you have access to Telstra 3G but not NextG. Read this http://www.austech.info/137073-post16.html
Telstra 3G = UMTS 2100 which provides 60% population coverage
Telstra NextG = UMTS 850 which provides 99% population coverage
I have a NextG sim when I was using my TP2 (the sim is my Leo now) and on my Leo I only get the EDGE network and no NextG.
Just what I have found as we have no or limited Edge where I live so the phone is basically useless. I have listed it on Ebay for anyone interested.
Ebay item number 110471705953
thanks all.

I'll tell you what, I have the unlocked import of the HD2 in the USA on at&t and the edge data on this phone seems as good as my last 3g phone. I think the speed of the phone is making up for it. Now of coarse, WITH the 3G coverage is another story but the edge is acceptable to me on this device.

[REF] Official HD2 T9193 (Telstra 850Mhz) Discussion Thread

Hello all,
I've started this thread to serve as a repository for information on the HTC HD2 model variant "T9193", the 850Mhz 3G-equipped version sold by Telstra in Australia. On a general level, most discussions applying to the regular HD2 are still relevant, however the T9193 has its own set of questions, hopefully answews to which can be tracked in here.
If there are any more sections of information people find useful it may be added at a later time. So let's get started-
What is it?
Model: HTC T9193
Available on the Telstra network in Australia
http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile/phones/phone_details.cfm?phone=HD2
Why should I buy this model?
If you are on a network that uses 850MHz frequency for its 3G bands (AT&T, Rogers, Telstra, etc), the HD2 T8585 will not give you full 3G reception, as this phone operates on 900MHz.
Where can I buy it?
There are a few e-tailers currently shipping the T9193. Here are the ones we have so far; if you've found it in-stock elsewhere let me know so I can add it to the list.
Australian sellers:
Telstra http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile/phones/phone_details.cfm?phone=HD2 (some members report they will only ship overseas if you call them directly)
Personal Digital http://personaldigital.com.au/p380/...NEXTG-850Mhz-AT&T-Roger-&-Telecom-NZ/buy.html (ships overseas, 1-3 day shipping available)
Mobicity http://www.mobicity.com.au/htc-hd2-next-g.html Member 'agoattamer' purchased his unit from this site, so for specific questions on their service you might contact him
North American sellers:
Negri Electronics http://www.negrielectronics.com/touch-t9193-smartphone-unlocked-p-3108.html
What's in the box?
Box contents for Telstra-branded phones are:
HD2 T9193
Leather slip case
USB cable (approx. 3')
Australian wall charger
16GB microSD card
Stereo headphones
Is the phone SIM locked?
Most users (myself included) have reported that the phone does NOT need to be SIM unlocked - any GSM SIM should work in the device.
Is the phone physically branded?
There are two very small logos on the back lower half of the phone, on the soft-touch material. The color is gray, and isn't too noticeable
Can I flash a different ROM?
Yes, however HardSPL must be applied first.
Read this thread (very carefully!).
Official ROMs from HTC are available here; click the 'shared folder' link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=577717
Can I download the original Telstra ROM?
The original stock ROM from Telstra (with all Telstra bloatware/customizations) is available here:
http://htcpedia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1474
Can I flash a different Radio version?
Other users have reported flashing to other radio versions without losing 850MHz reception. Note that depending on the ROM/Radio you may lose the option for manually selecting 850MHz from the dropdown list under Phone settings.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611787
Can I customize the three Quicklinks on the Home screen without flashing a new ROM?
Yes, see this thread for a cab file that unlocks customization for the quicklinks:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5452464&postcount=1
Are there any hardware issues related to this model variant?
Pink Hue
With the T8585 there have been widespread reports of a pink hue in the center of camera images. They attempted to remediate this through a software patch, however the issue persisted if a few tweaks were applied to the camera settings, indicating this could be a hardware fault.
There have been no reports of pink hue from T9193 users yet.
White Paint on Hardware Buttons inconsistently applied, results in uneven lighting
A few users have reported having this issue

How do I remove that stubborn battery cover?
Pocketnow.com has posted a video explaining an easier method for removing the very tight battery cover (that's a good thing though!) without breaking a fingernail:

Hey I have the t9193 and the camera appears to be just fine. The chassis build on this model is real tight. We won't be removing this battery cover as easily as the HD, but you also gain better fit metal cover which doesn't squeek like the plastic ones did on HD.
Actually, here's a good way to easily remove the battery - works very well for me!

I have this issue, but you don't have to reset [the phone], just go to the Comm Manager and toggle "Phone" off and then back on.
Since this is the 'official' reference thread:
I have NOT had this issue. I saw it once and I'm pretty sure it was a network problem in that area - I switched to EDGE and all was well.
I typically run the latest radios/6.5.x roms, currently R2.08.50.05 w/ Artemis 3.7. I do a mtty format between flashes just to be sure I'm starting from a clean slate.
I have an exchange account that has push email enabled around the clock and I've never noticed any delivery delays.
Just a thought: iPhone users are known for being vocal complainers against the ATT network. Could there be some truth to their allegations, and you guys are just seeing it as well?
Hey looking to pick one of these up to use in new york on att. Had iphones since they came out. Will be my first wm phone. Hoping they release wm7 for the hd2 real soon . Can yoi guys tell me where you purchased yours from. Trying to gauge whag other people are paying because the 8585 are going for around 600 on ebay now
well I got mine today and have not found any issues yet camera seems fine actually very impressed data speed seems very fast.. no loss of connection but then I've only started using it
I am using the asia wwe 1.66 rom with stock telstra radio. The telstra rom had so much bloatware i couldnt stand it.
My data connection stopped working last night while i was sleeping. I woke up and received the connection error again, i was connected to my home wifi !! Toogling the airplane mode on and off does fix this, but its very annoying.
Secondly, I was an iphone user before the hd2. AT&T in western NY is pretty good, i rarely drop calls. Around my area I constantly have the big "H". MMS and SMS work well. Only problem is when the data connection quits for no reason.
Has anyone had better luck with the 2.2 rom for tmobile us?

See the links in the first post of this thread.
The lowest price ive seen is from Personal Digital in Australia; I paid 780 USD shipped to the US. There are some on ebay too (the T9193 specifically - just make sure you're looking at the right one!), but they are in the 900 range.
PersonalDigital is the way to go. You won't find it cheaper since everyone else is making a killer overhead on it! I saw one place in the US selling it for $1k+
After flashing a new rom I have tried to run the hotfix that fixes the sd card issue, but it tells me the hotfix is not compatible with my phone. Im guessing maybe because the hardware changes from T9193 to T8585 in the hardware info when flashing ROMS. I downloaded the U.S. hotfix because I am in the U.S.but may I need to download AU version since my T9193 obviously came from Australia?
Which ROM did you flash?
I think all of the patches ONLY apply to ROMs less than version 1.66. Starting at 1.66 the hotfixes were rolled into the ROM update.
HD2 Telstra T9193 experience (Argentina)
Hi , i'd like to report my experience with my recently received HD2 T9193 from Telstra (Australia). I am from Buenos Aires, Argentina (same 3G american bands as AT&T, UMTS 850/1900)
I guarantee that flashing custom ROMs AND various Radios available in XDA work perfectly . Even those ROMs which, being cooked with original HD2 packages, display '1900/2100' UMTS bands, in Comm Manager, when you lock to 'only WCDMA', it uses actual hardware UMTS bands, hard-coded on chip.
Also, i don't suffer from any noticeable issue up to know, either aesthetically on the phone, or on hardware (like the so mentioned 'pink' in camera, data connection crashes, etc).
Phone just feels flawless, identical to original HD2, but with american 3G UMTS bands....
And BTW 3G speeds are incredibly good, but probably what surprised me the most, are the blazingly fast EDGE speeds! by far the speedest edge phone i put my hands on... really makes a difference...

I was also thinking that but being that my sd card has displayed the same number of capacity since day one means that It hasnt been applied. So im looking for an answer that could help me get this solved because its quite annoying. I have read and heard that it mostly applies to 8gb and 16gb and Im using the 16gb from Telstra

I would like to hear if any T9193 users have tried the Tmo US roms? Does anyone know if those ROMs include a radio, and how that radio works with the T9193?

T-Mobile UK now saying end of Nov for Foyo

oops..'Froyo'
"Hi there,
Some news on the update to Android 2.2 for the Samsung Galaxy S. Currently we are making some changes to get it working better when using Orange signal, and are therefore looking to release the update by the end of November – obviously this is a delay on our original release date but we hope it will be worth the wait!
The update will still be made available through the Samsung Kies PC application.

oh well.
Obviously carrier specific firmwares aren't going to be out at the same time as the standard release, but I'm a bit concerned about these supposed problems with Orange, given that I have an Orange contract + unbranded phone.
Same here I'm on orange uk aswell with an unbranded phone. My friend has a galaxy s on tmobile.. When he boots his phone up he gets atmobile animation where as I get the unbranded s that materializes itself from little shards.
So does this mean orange will be delayed aswell as they have merged their signal or is this just going to just be for the tmobile branded phones???
Can any 1 shed any more light on this?

Nope, both you and I will be able to install froyo as soon as Samsung release it.
Whether there will be issues getting a signal on Orange is another matter however - hopefully it won't render froyo unusable.
I think the delay is due to the fact that when roaming onto the opposite network, the phone does not switch back when the original signal is available.
For example i run jpk on my orange contract, when i am in the sticks and run out of orange signal it connects to tmobile, however when i am back in town, etc it does not connect me back to orange. This is fine for calls, however i only get 3g, etc on orange, not tmobile.
This is just a guess tho.

Well I have held off as long as I can I'll give it until the 1st of november and I'm gonna flash a rom myself. Is there any difference between jpk and jpm? I have jpk downloaded and ready to go
T-Mobile are talking crap. My JPM switches to Orange when i have no T-mobile signal and works just fine. My guess is they are trying to find away to brand all the unbranded devices.

Do you still get the internet 3g connection aswel with the switch?
And also does it switch back ok when it finds t mobile connection again?
If so then maybe your right.

Don't feed the troll!
Thinking about it now, cause the way froyo has been rolling out with branding crap things don't look so rosy. xda is the way forward imho So btw, it takes a month and a half to do one little roaming tweak for the merging t mobile and orange users in the uk? Biggest lie ever, cause there is a 2 min workaround on t mobile uk users site. Just switching on roaming, send a few texts and workaround on t mobile uk users site. Just switching on roaming, send a few texts and job done. So this is bs all the way. Why don't samsung come clean and say ops sgs korea only gets froyo and rest of the world stays on eclair.....stop feeding bs, trying to boost sales numbers by lies!
I posted this here from sgs forums, from my original cause I am so angry!
FYI, this has just appeared on Samsung UK facebook page :
Samsung UK Mobile Hi everyone, sorry for not getting this to you sooner. The Android 2.2 software is being fully tested with UK operators and the upgrade will be available in the UK from early November. We expect all operator versions of the software to be fully tested and downloadable by the end of November. Let us know if you have any questions. Many thanks, Samsung.
Got my sgs from TMobile UK website but it's not branded as far as I can see - get the S animation on startup...

Me too.
But, my product code is a t-mobile one, so not one update is available on Kies. Not even JM1.
This tells me T-mobile will brand my phone with their official update
