Video out Settings(HDMI)-Possible new feature - EVO 4G General

After june 28th update.
I've never noticed this before in the "Sound & Display" settings, but there appears to be an option that I've never seen before "Video out Setting(HDMI)". Options are Automatic, 720p, and 480p.
Was this option always there?

No, I think this is an undocumented new feature in the latest firmware. I noticed it too.

Anyone actually notice a difference between the two?

Has anyone tried hdmi with the new settings? Can we output on more than just gallery and youtube now?

The Suspense!!! So far HDMI has been a waste on the Evo... Lets hope they open up the port a bit as the TV-Out (ideal) function on the Touch Pro is what, 2 years old now?

Samsung Galaxy s i9000 Mic sensitivity recording

This is my first samsung. And I think i'm a bit spoiled as a nokia n900 user. But the recorded sound on my samsung galaxy is just horrible in comparison to my n900.
Last night I went to a show of cypress hill here in the Netherlands. And started recording. The video quality is super. Only the noise makes it almost impossible to distinguish any of the songs etc. I mean really horrible.
After some research i found out that users with the samsung omnia had this same issue, and they found a solution wich was adjusting some settings in the hidden menu of the phone.
Is it also possible to adjust these settings in the galaxy s i9000?
Below are the settings for the omnia hd reducing
with phonepad digit *#0002*28346#
then 3) Record
then 04) CamcordARM_AMR (this is volume gain in video record)
Go to
TxMicAmp : 24
digit 18#
and then when you go back will see
TxMicAmp : 25
Then go to
Tx Channel: 18
digit 18#
and then when you go back will see
Tx Channel: 18
To save all changes go back back
6)Backup and will show "Backup OK"
Yeah I noticed the heavy clipping (sounds like static, noise, distortion) in all of the Galaxy S recordings. I haven't really seen anyone else mention it.
However the Omina HD runs Windows Mobile does it not? Totally different OS there..
this should show that menu *#197238640#
Any luck with this? I have opened the service menu, but no idea what to do after that.
i also would like a fix for this!

Any idea what to change these settings to?

I got the same problem when I try to run VOIP application. The noise is so terrible. I can enter "service mode", but I don't know how to setup them either.
Same here, video recording is quite useless like this... Went to a concert last evening and video is great but sound is ultimate crap! As in one big pile of noise.
But also when recording a video in the car, with just the radio on, is stretching it... It is at least possible to distinguish different sounds but already distorted.
Such a shame! Any fix for this would be great (and couldn't find much in the servicemode settings unfortunately).
I'm using the JM2 firmware and the sound of recorded videos is poor.
I wish we found the solution, as I had found on i8910
Meh, contacted samsung helpdesk (mail) and got a standard response
'We are currently developing a firmware update, please keep an eye out for it on the samsung website'. (translated from dutch ).
My guess is the firmware update won't fix a thing since it's still present in JM2 but we'll see.

In other words: keep waiting. Saying it will be fixed in next release is the best way to keep customers happy without doing anything
But on the other side maybe with 2. 2 it will be fixed.

Yup, I know... But what can you do. They prolly also don't know much about the technical stuff.
At least there's a new firmware coming up, I think I'll give JP3 another shot and see if things have improved there.
Hey guys,
anyone tried playing with *#*#197328640#*#* => audio => handset => diamond solution => voice booster? or acoustic shock free? sounds like something related to me, gonna try.

that's a good tip
can more people confirm if this optimization works well?
if so, then we can put this as a sticky / FAQ / wiki
Disregard my post about Diamond solution, it's for headphones. I'm pretty sure some parts of the service menu => audio => handset could be tweaked to make audio recording better, just need someone who knows what means what.
There is a way to alter the recording volume during the recording however it requires adb shell and it only lasts for the duration of the remainder of the recording.

That's something at least, wanna share that?
Also I found a quick and dirty workaround if you wanna record some music before some kind of fix appears - just put your finger on the mic hole while recording ^^

[APP][DEV]Moxee 0.3a (3rd Release) 11/09/2012 - (Steaming Video)

DELETED
Screens
...
Development Info
Possible future functionality:
Youtube: comments, annotations( I suspect that this can be done), description etc.
"Save video to sdcard";
RTMP video sources would be nice...(I'm not sure I can do this but will be thinking about ways)
Changes in 0.3a:
11/7/2012 Video transitions much shorter! DONE!
The process for video selection is rather long so I'm having the next video selected while the current video is playing. This cuts down on time between video's in most cases!
11/4/2012 Incorporation of YouTube related video's DONE!
Related video's on a random metric!
11/2/2012 Youtube video quality option. DONE!
This one took a little while. Had do deal with what was available on a case by case basis. Bonus: Revision3 video's obey the quality setting!
11/2/2012 Preserve last video and position for resuming. DONE!
This turned out to be pretty simple too. Just had to store some state info in the db.
This was much easier than I thought it would be!
11/2/2012 Provide "In App" button for settings. DONE!
This was much easier than I thought it would be!
10/25/2012 9 patched the background image for feed items. DONE!
I was hoping that 9 patching the background image would give me a more consistent look across multiple devices in the feed manager. It helped but not nearly as much as I would have hoped.
Changes in 0.2a:
10/16/2012 Stop Moxee from playing while the screen is off. DONE!
There was an issue where if you turned the screen off when Moxee was in a transitional phase, threads that were started before the screen was turned off would cause the app to continue to play videos. Terminating these threads have resolved the issue!
10/15/2012 Toggle fullscreen to access notifications. DONE!
This turned out to be a simple matter of adding and clearing window flags. Now when ever you see the onscreen display, you will have access to the notification bar!
10/15/2012 Worked out a few minor issues.
There was an issue were sources were not seen until they had been updated by the back-end.
Added thumbnails for sources in the feed manager.
There was an issue where if YouTube did not have a "medium" quality mp4 for any particular video it would error off.
Resolved a threading issue where if next was pressed at a particular time, there would be a discontinuity between the titlebar and the actual video playing.
Resolved a threading issue where the titlebar said it was "Loading when in fact it was playing a video.
10/13/2012 Making setting available to those without physical menu button. DONE!
According to the information provided here (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/11702831/android-best-way-to-let-user-access-preference-activity) putting a menu option called "Settings" in the menu will cause ICS and above to show the 3 dot soft settings button. We shall see!
Well as it turns out that if you lower your build target(ei gingerbread), ICS (and above) will auto detect and put soft settings button in the action bar. However, lowering the build target caused problems with the latest Google ads jar so I had to revert to a lower version of that, but It's all working now!! I just need to make sure that the ads are really working.

Works fairly well on my Sprint GS3 running 4.1.1.
Main problem, plays after turning the screen off.
Would love to be able to turn to portrait to get access to notifications without stopping the video.
Nice work

Running well on my Xoom (4.1.2).
It would be nice to be able to get to the original source of the video somehow, however I kind of like that you can't as it saves your from becoming distracted and not actually watching anything all the way through. In that respect it really is like watching old analogue TV.
Edit - Menu not available on the Xoom due to the lack of a dedicated (physical) menu button.

Thanks for giving my app a try! I have reproduced that it does play with the screen off and I will be working on that one. I don't think that I'm prepared to allow the app into portrait mode but what I will work on is the option to take it out of full screen mode so users will have access to the notification bar.

Thanks so much for testing on your Xoom! I suspected that the lack of a physical menu button might be a problem. I suppose it would be best to make my own buttons for those functions. When you say, original source of the video, I'm not sure what you mean, but I am considering a "download this video" button for the future and even a "cache these video's overnight" kinda thing...

You're welcome, also tested on my SGSII (CM10 4.1.2) and running fine there too.
When I said original source I meant for example being able to get to a video on YouTube or wherever it originally came from in case someone wanted read the comments or get some background info etc...
Cheers

Very watchable. It's not really any different to the quality it would be on YouTube, obviously some things that were uploaded in a lower resolution may not scale up to the larger screen size so well but I won't hold you responsible for that...
I have a few devices I'll test on for you. All U.S. devices. HTC Sensation 4G, SGS2 T989, Galaxy Note 10.1, and if the app will be compatible I also have a Motorola Charm, Motorola Cliq2, and an older MyTouch 3G. I'll let you know how they all perform though. Thanks for the app, and it's a great idea and piece of software.
Just tested it on an 7 inch tablet. Looks great,
but I only see 3 buttons... Where's the Menu key?

If you 7 inch tablet has Gingerbread then, I think, it should have a hardware menu button. If you 7 inch tablet has honey comb or above there should be a "3 dot" software button in the bottom bar, next to the 3 buttons on the left. If however, your 7 inch tablet has no hardware button and is running gingerbread or below, that is the case where there would be a problem
If this is the case, let me know, and I'll put it on the list for 0.3a :good:
Thanks so much for testing and let me know if there is anything else you notice, or if there is anything that you think would make the experience better!

I know the 3 dot butten, most of the apps has it, but yours don't
If you'll got the time, Can you add an icon for MENU?
Moxee got lot's of potential but
it's not really usable without costomizing the feeds

Weird Video on SlingPlayer

I'm getting some weirdness while using Slingplayer on my Samsung S7 Edge. I do not have this problem with my Nexus 6. It's quite distracting. I took a video since it's easier than explaining it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGUfh6tFk_g
Any feedback would be great.
/edit/ Basically, there's a green "screendoor" look whenever the video has the slingplayer overlay and when I change channels the entire video goes green while the same thing on my Nexus 6 is fine with the slingplayer overlay and just black video feed when changing channels. I'm actually pretty surprised no-one else has reported something similar since I can't be the only Samsung S7 user that also has a slingplayer.
I will also add that sometimes the green overlay also happens in slingplayer when I'm streaming and no Slingplayer menu is up...
Looks like you may have to update your video codecs for this player to work.

Any suggestions on how to do that? Furthermore, how would I get Slingplayer to use the updated codecs? I believe the video codecs Slingplayer uses are self-contained...
Bueller? Bueller? Anyone?
FYI, others have reported on the youtube video they had similar issues on their S7. One person mentioned the greenscreen started happening after a Samsung update on an ATT phone (mine is a Tmo). That sucks since I'd think it'll take alot longer for Samsung to fix their code than Sling...
Tmo's recent update did not resolve this. It included other fixes (power/volume? issue, etc).
Update: there is a way to fix this. Thanks to "JG 3" at youtube:
Enable Developer Mode, go in to Developer Options and enable the option called "Turn off hardware overlays" (Always use GPU for screen compositing).
For those more knowledgeable than me: will this impact battery life and is there a way to enable this only when launching Slingplayer?

Does Oreo add aptX?

Wondering if using Oreo on this handset allows you to choose aptx? Longshot seems it doesn't seem to be supported at the hardware. If anyone's on oreo can you check the bluetooth developer options and see if aptx is available? Thanks.
Just check and i can see the option there.

Btw I upgraded to Oreo and indeed the codec is there but for some reason android keeps defaulting to SBC when I'm actually playing music on my headphones and it doesn't allow me to change. So everything is still the same in that regard :sigh:

Video issues with Teams/Duo

I was struggling with my phone freaking out while doing video chat on either Teams and Duo. Both apps did the same thing and I provided feedback to their developers that it appeared to start on my note 20 ultra 5g when android 11 landed.
Today I realized that if I changed my video resolution for the phone display from FHD+ to WQHD+ the freezing stops altogether...
Anyone else able to test this out?
My video Resolution is set to 16:9 FHD 1920x1080 (30 fps) and I use Duo to TeleHealth VideoChat with two different Doctors on a regular basis with absolutely no problems! Works great - Android 11/OneUI 3.0. I don't use "Teams" - hate it!!!

Yeah, that's screen resolution under "Display" - that's what I have also. What I was talking about was in Camera Video Settings! Open you're camera, go to settings and look for "Front Video Size" - select 16:9, then open the Resolution and see all the choices and grab what I said before.

I will have to check that out because that makes me wonder if the bug is a scaling issue between showing the preview of your camera on your display at different resolutions
I actually don't think one has anything to do with the other - my setting is probably what we're recording at to send to the other party!!! I have to log off so I'll check back later...

Sorry, just got your question AND I'm not staying - I have never tried, like I said, I only use it for Doctor's Appointments and never have a need to leave during the appointment. Short Telehealth Appointments and done... over and out! ??? Hope that helped!
