Rogers Mobile on Demand not working on unbranded phone - XPERIA X10 General

If you are a rogers subscriber you can get rogers on demand online and it lets you watch shows for free on the internet, and on your phone at no extra charge.
I downloaded the app on my phone and it wont open saying "unsupported phone SEMC_X10i". is there any way to modify build.prop without root?

Its not free, you have to subscribe.

If you have an unbranded phone......you would want to follow the steps to root your phone. Remember to run all 5 steps.....the last step will change your device name so that rogers will recognize your phone.....
i am using Rogers on Demand as well....and after your follow the steps in the rooting guide...you will be able to use the app.

Rogers on Demand only works with x10a's. Trying to figure out how to spoof that info. Any ideas?
Editing default.prop did not work.

[Q] Question about my new DX (new for me anyway)

My brother in law recently switched over to SPRINT and gave me his pretty new DX. I can't activate the phone until next week (because he made the mistake of porting the phone number BEFORE he gave me the phone) so according to VZW i have to wait until that process is completed and the billing cycle is finished before I can use the phone. (I don't think he plans on paying them )
My question is...can I root the DX before I actually get it linked to my VZW phone number? (like remove google apps and just use the phones capabilities like camera etc. without having to call and activate it) I'm coming from HTC Droid eris so I don't know much about rooting the DX yet.
Can someone help me please.
I believe you can, I think theirs a way to bypass the activation screen. You might be able to find it on the forums or if not just Google it I'm sure you can find it.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Yes you can root it without being on a network. all you need to do is go back out of this thread and read the first sticky and go to the wiki. I would post link but since this is my first actual post i cant
And after your phone reboots you can get passed the little android man by touching each corner in a circular motion.
I hope for your sake that your brother in law pays Verizon. If he doesn't in they most likely blacklist the phones esn.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
But keep in mind if the phone doesn't have OTA 2.2 you might want to keep all apps because the update might fail because missing files.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
You don't even need to do the 4 corner trick.
Touch the android, hit next until you have the options of "create google login, sign in, or skip" and just choose skip. That easy.
That's assuming he's at the "touch to begin screen" which he probably isn't being that he's the second owner.
...but yeah, check the sticky and root away.
Thanks for the information guys. Yeah I really hope that they allow him to give me his phone. I kept verifying with the rep that it would be okay to transfer the phone, he said it should be okay since it's HIS property. But i never know with those guys...
I don't plan on removing any apps at all I just want get the root access and ready so when I do hook it up, it'll be ready to go.
I'm excited to see what you guys have in store for this phone...especially coming from the Eris.
Just connect with wifi and use as normal. That easy. You can even setup a google account and use market and have all the sweet and chewies of using the X less the ability of calls and texts.
As stated above, if he doesn't pay the bill VzDubya will (normally) put the phone on the do not activate list. Again though this wont effect use while connected to wifi.
Will I have to set the phone to USB debugging mode if I try and root?
If so, I dont think I'll be able to root since I can't even get passed the "Activation Screen"
Also, how can I check to see what android version he is on (2.1 or 2.2) How do I look at the bootloader info...can I do that w/o Root? Is that dangerous? I don't want to brick the phone...
sorry for all the questions guys appreciate your patience.
Anyone?
Press menu then setting scroll to the bottom of the list to about phone click it and your info will be there. Just a thought if you don't know how to find something that simple are you sure you want to be playing with root.

Actually if you read the first post. The phone is not activated yet, so I don't have the option to "menu>settings".
And Yes, I rooted my Eris. Thanks.

(FYI) Barnacle wifi tether

Just to let you know that you can use this instead of changing apn settings, i tried that and seemed to freeze, used barnacle the first time this morning and its been working flawlessly all day.
Agreed... Barnacle works perfectly.
The APN route is cleaner, but unreliable.
I also agree, I am waiting to get on my home wireless before the market will allow me to download Barnacle thanks to AT&T market filtering, but I have been running a google tethering app for the time being and it is much easier and faster to use, just not as "clean" I guess.
My Phones:
Motorola MicroTAC Elite
Nokia 7160
Nokia 6340i
Nokia 6230
Nokia 6682
HTC Tilt
HTC Fuse
HTC Tilt2 (custom ROM)
Samsung Captivate (custom ROM,rooted)
Motorola Atrix (rooted)
I'm using "wireless tether for root". How is barnacle compared to that? wpa is the only difference i noticed in their features.

is barnacle on the market?
I don't see it listed on Android market anywhere.
You won't - ATT blocks it. Google search, they have a website to download the .apk. Have to be rooted of course to sideload it.
To get blocked Apps on in market, just turn your phone on without the sim. Download and install all you want without sim.

You do in fact need root access for this program and also if you use MarketAccess you can trick the market into thinking you are on T-Mobile and get Barnacle.
strange..
I rooted and tried it from app brain, but I keep getting the requested item could not be found. Is there another way i need to install it?
thanks
Of course it works, we have been talking about it since the 19th....

Search is your friend!
To get it to work you need root. Also you will need market enabler..which just tricks the market into thinking your phone runs on another service provider..as att blocks alot of apps

Ahhh, no..... while I can't say I know this for an absolute fact, DG said he's been APN tethering the crap out of his Atrix for the past week and AT&T hasn't "caught on," or nothing. With Barnacle, I'd say it would be even harder to "catch" someone wirelessly tethering - they never caught me or anyone else I know when I was using my Captivate!

I've used barnacle for the last 5 months and no change in my plan.
I have my Atrix rooted and have installed Barnacle but I get "Permission Denied" from Barnacle and then "Stopped Unexpectedly". Then the ATT hot spot validation comes up in the task bar and says account not setup. Any idea what I may have missed here?

Remote wipe?

Any apps out there that can remote wipe, or at least remotely set a pattern lock on your phone?
Lookout can wipe your phone remotely as well as wave secure. Both of these require a subscription though. I'm not aware of a free one though.
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
but you have to set them up on your phone first. I can't do that right now, I just wanna wipe it.
I believe es security manager lets you remote lock without a subscription. You have to set a password and then send an sms to your phone with a special pattern that includes that password, iirc.

By the way if you already lost the phone, you won't be able to remote wipe it.

also
if you are running a rom like evil's desire HD rom and you sign up for HTC sense you can login to the web page https://www.htcsense.com/us/ and wipe the phone using that
but you have to have been running a rom that supports it like the above mentioned

Actually, there's a new app that can at least locate your device after it's already lost. I'll go digging for it, I read it in an article recently - gotta go find it. Essentially, since the new Market is available, you can download the app via the Web after your device is already lost. It will download to your phone and start giving you GPS coordinates. I'm not sure if it also offers a remote-wipe feature...I'll reply back if/when I find it!

[Q] Switch between media and mass?

Hi all. I can't find the usb settings to pick either mass storage or media transfer? Am I missing something here. All other android phones I have had, I would just go to settings - usb settings - then choose what I wanted. Don't have that option on this phone. I have the verizon play. Thanks for any help
Go settings -> Sony Ericsson. It's in there
Yeah, I don't have that option either. No sony ericcson under settings.
verizon version of the play can only do mass storage. plus facebook does not work right. so verizon did tinker with the op system

Why would they do something ridiculous like that? If memory serves, PC Companion can only issue updates when you are in Media Transfer Mode. Disabling it blocks one avenue through which you can get updates.
you cant debrand a cdma handset... atleast until you can get root. and verizon only wants you to get there update OTA no download for us...
well verizon in there quest to screw the consumer took the media transfer out so you will have to use there media transfer tool(STUPID as we cant update) I can see me returning this phone if they dont do something to allow updates///

You can still update via OTA and I believe SEUS still allows updates in mass storage mode.

Pdanet.apk please, I can't get it off of market and.....My desktop does not have wifi for tethering. My internet has been down all dayand I need to do some internet homework. I would like to use pdanet or something like it. I am rooted. I would like to connect my phone to desktop and use it as a modem, any help would be appreciated.

First, we don't provide illegal apk's here. If you want pdanet, buy it.
Second, if you are rooted, you can get Wireless Tether from the market for free, or flash a rom that has built in wifi tethering or usb tethering.
If wireless tether doesn't show up in the market (doesn't for me) a google search will being you to the project page.

As a current PDANet user I can tell you that validation is done on the computer side not on the phone side, i.e. the apk is just a conduit it does not perform any kind of validation/key checks on its own.

And pdanet isn't an illegal Apk there is a free and a paid version just because sprints being a bunch of *****es and blocked it from download doesn't mean its illegal they also blocked wireless tether for root users and barnacles wifi on my end both free apps so are you saying because sprint blocked em they are now illegal? Even tho I can still go get wireless tethers source straight from Google a bypass sprints retarded rules?
sent from my ics'd out EViL4G
I've tried installing the apk a few times using both App Brain and ES File Explorer but they both fail to install. ES says the install has completed, but no icon shows up in the app tray. Can Sprint actually block the app from being sideloaded, or is this some other kind of issue. My wife's Evo isn't rooted and she needs USB tethering.
Easy, download the official Pdanet.exe from your evo, then transfer it to your desktop and run it. The exe installs the apk. Job done.
I tried that, actually, but I get a "Fail to install" error on her macbook and nothing loads on the phone. I tried searching June Fabrics site for the error, but no info.
Just go to 4shared.com and search pdanet.apk most paid apps are available for free download.
We gotta help eachother, not police a site... Like that asshole earlier!

So, what is the difference between using an alternative android market to download free apps and rooting your phone to use a paid service (tether) for free? Seems like the same thing to me. Or am I missing something?
