Evo prevents windows 7 laptop from booting. - EVO 4G General

I'm not sure why, but whenever I have my evo plugged into my laptop to charge and I attempt to reboot or turn on my computer it doesn't get passed the very first load up screen, doesn't even make it to windows boot up screen. It's a cheap windows 7 emachines laptop, but I doubt that has anything to do with it...
the second I unplug my phone, the computer boots up normally.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think its your computer's bios. I know a lot of people's computers won't start if they have their iPod plugged in. Try making sure that your computer is set to boot from hard disk first, cd drive second and flash drive third. That should work, or there could be a deeper problem. Basically, it isn't the Evo, its the computer.

I had an MSI board that would do this when my iphone2g was plugged in.

This. I can never boot with my iPod plugged in, but it's no big deal.

it is a settign in your BIOS, to disabel it disabel "Boot from USB" or just make sure your OS Hard drive is first in the boot order in BIOS. some people have this issue when a CD/DVD is in there system, and thats how to fix it, your PC looks on your usb for the OS.

I have the same thing on my Toshiba it is not set to boot from USB, HDD is first and it still hangs at the BIOS screen. Not a big deal, I'm just saying it does it.

Yeah, I got the same issue with my evo last night, except on windows vista. But it doesn't matter, its just the bois in the motherboard trying to connect to it as a hard drive. I wonder if you could use your evo as a bootable device for linux or even windows, using it as a live cd to boot a operating system and use the ram to boot up, rather than installing it on the hard drive.
That would be pretty cool. Eh?

I had this same problem with an external hard drive. In your BIOS, you may need to disable Legacy USB support.

The computer is looking for files too boot with on the drive. You have to either turn off USB drive booting or set it after the hard drive in the boot order.

I had this happen once when my Vogue was plugged in and it freaked me out. I don't remember why I unplugged the Vogue but as soon as I did it booted the rest of the way. I was so glad when I realized that it must have been because the phone was plugged in.

connection help

i was running the 2.31 version of the rom updater utility by coke man to install a 6.1 rom. It didnt get past the 0% on the installation screen when it told me i had an update error and a soft reset would fix it. it didnt fix it and did the same thing next time. now my phone wont connect with the pc or with activesync so im pretty frustrated right now. it charges it via usb but my pc cannot find the phone device itself. also when i plug the phone into the usb cord, i hear a messed up connection sound. you know when you plug in a usb cord to a pc you hear that "do do" with the second "do" at a slightly higher pitch? when i plug mine in now it sounds like it plays the first "do" twice and then nothing happens if that at all makes sense...

1) Can you get back to the boot loader screen. Push power/Camera and reset at the same time.
2) If you can get the bootloader screen what does it say? If it says 2.31 then leave it as is and load whatever rom you want.
3) If it doesn'r say 2.31 then re run icecokemans unlocker again
i cant even establish a connection to do that with the pc. Each time i tried the program before it stopped working, it would stay on 0 with an error code that said a soft reset would fix the problem. But it wouldnt and would get stuck at the same place next time
The sound you're hearing is a driver installation error, maybe start by reinstalling active-sync?
or at least open device manager and see if "Generic RNDIS" is there, that would mean you dont have neccecary drivers and need to download ActiveSync for XP or Windows Mobile Device Center for Vista.
hope that help
reinstallin it fixed it. i really do appreciate the help though. i got the answer i needed within the day i asked where as i still have no helpful responses at any of the other places i asked. thanks

Kindle Fire Not Showing Up When Connected to USB

Hey guys,
I've rooted my KF and got everything running. Haven't plugged it into the computer for about a week and now that I do, the KF does not show up and does not even make the dung dung sound when you connect up a device.
What can I do to fix this problem?
I have restarted both the KF and the computer without luck

Have you loaded the device drivers (that come with the ADB method)?

I assume so ... I believe that was required in order to root the KF? Any link on how to do it again in case something broke?

There's a few ways to get to promised land, and not all require the files associated with this process. Worth a shot:
http://goo.gl/05PH4
Also, I assume the device is able to charge using the provided charger? Just checking the actual usb port...
Ya, the cable seems to charge but when plugging into the computer, there is no detection of a new usb device ...
Went through the video step by step. It's actually the same video I used to root. Get all the way till you plug in and have the device detect ... nothing. No where to go from there ...
Any suggestions?
Just connected the KF to a laptop and nothing shows up in the device manager either. No detection at all. WTF ...
Just tried a 3rd computer and no joy. Any thoughts?
This happened to me a couple of times where the Fire wasn't detected by the computer as a USB device and Kindle didn't pop up the mass storage message. After a hard reset it worked fine again. Hold down power for 20 sec and then hit power again to turn on.
Did a hard reset and still no luck ...
Just tried another cable ... it's not the cable ....
Can anyone offer any insight?
Have you tried a factory reset back to stock? Something somewhere is messed up, and it would end up being needle in haystack time trying to work out what the problem is. It shouldn't take too long to put things back to how they were post reset. If if doesn't work when stock, then you have potential hardware issues.
It's possible that one of the data pins is having issues on the Micro USB connector, especially if it still charges.
Looks like the USB port is hooped. It just stopped charging ....

Asus Q200E problems

Well I have a windows laptop here, came with windows 8 and booted just fine. Transferring some files over, and boom, it died. Now it only boots to the black screen with diagnose problems and tries to repair disk errors, but that doesn't work. Tried the F9 menu and reset the PC, the other options just freeze when I click them, the reset seems to do something, but stops after a bit (hard drive light constant on, then nothing). Tried to get a USB/CD drive to work, but it won't allow me to select them since win8 fastboot has taken over the bios, so it doesn't even show the USB/CD drive connected. Any recommendations?
edit: holy crap this laptop is annoying as hell. There is nothing I can do to repair it basically. I dont want to take the hard drive out since it was bought sunday (fixing for coworker). Might as well return it and get a new one. Why did windows 8 make it super difficult to fix things.

Shield Pro - APX Mode

Hi all,
I have the Shield Pro, running 5.1, and it won't start
It was working fine yesterday, but when I got home from work this evening, it was unresponsive. The power light was stuck on, but would not respond to any controller input or, as far as I can tell, any USB input.
I pulled the power out, and plugged it back in, and the light came on instantly. No display on the TV. I plugged it into my PC, but Windows doesn't see anything attached (I have tried multiple cables). If I hold the power button for five seconds, the device just turns off. If I touch the power button even just briefly, the green light comes back on. I can't get into Fastboot or anything. There is no HDMI output at all.
This is, naturally, really quite annoying.
However, after having it hooked up to my PC via USB for a while (not sure how long, sorry!), my computer bleeped like it does when a new USB device has been discovered, and bingo! I now have an "APX" device, with no drivers installed.
So. Who knows about APX mode for this thing?
I'm pretty sure APX is a low level recovery mode.. I recall reading that elsewhere.
go to the developers nvidia site amd search on how to reflash via apx
yeah, I had to use it on my old LG Optimus 2X, back in the day. There's nothing on the nVidia developer site about using it though

Apx mode ( and yes without drivers - couldn't even find around in Internet...) on pc ×device manager× shows me on my 500gb console when I removing internal shdd and connected with pc whiteout shdd (one day nothing to do and decide need open and have look what is inside in console...shdd, motherboard, cooler etc) . Another words sounds those symptoms very similar with my tests, but in my case that was mine experiments/investigations/discovery and your looks like you have some serious storage problem or kind of problem relaited with - can't read os or even bootloader which is on 500gb shdd or flash memory modul on 16gb.

after googling for a bit , i saw some references to the shield tablet, i think someone had an APX driver, maybe you could try that?
I could do, but APX mode is really, really dangerous. You need to know byte offsets and all that :S

if you know apx and you have all necessary stuff from Nvidia (which is not provided for public) you can replace internal drive or even ssd by installing bootloader, recovery, os etc straight on new drive from pc which is main factor why we can't swap them so easily, like 1 - 2tb drive or ssd - which would be fantastic ?. P.s. Something simular protection is for Xbox360 drives.

if that's the case you might have to send it for a warranty repair.. better not playing around if it's under warranty.
an idea for apx
move your shdd from shield and connect to pc then use this program(R-Studio 8.0) or other to restore date on u shdd I think it most work good luck

I have tab p7500 and have this problem apx only jtag help me in apx mode you should now wish sbl for tegra x1 and have nvflash for shield pro sorey for my English the easy way use jtag or tray to restore data in shdd
would there be a way to just dd- flash a new recovery withthe hdd removed from the unit? I am having te same no logo, no bootloader issue and am trying to either find apx drivers (non-existent) or a workaround. There has to be a way.....
i have the same question. My intrest is more in tinkering with the tegra x1 exploit in order to get a different root solution not contingent on nvidias closed source crap. I'm running a 2015 foster model and it is getting increasingly difficult to find tutorials on that system specifically with the newer updates. +i am interested in learning the process to exchange the hdd and mopy and manipulate the widevine keys that don't work on mine after the forced 7.2.3 update that occured with all update sofware removed from my system that also fried my controller with a botched firmware update that is blacklisted and not mentioned on the internet except people asking and all replies deleted. you know general unfettered access to the system without the bootloaders say so . All of this should now be possible now that the real hackers have gotten involved and decided they want to promote this exploit for homebrew it has caused several low level apx drivers to popup in corners ive found myself in from time to time if somebody will just get them to do it for the shield tv instead of the shield tab and the switch it is proven to work.

Fire Stick TWRP recovery using a mouse.

This actually works, ive done it myself, using a powered otg cable (homemade) i run the following command while plugged into mains and laptop :
echo 1 > /sys/devices/platform/bcmpmu_otg_xceiv/host
The device will disconnect from the adb mouse and you are free to plug in a mouse or most probably a keyboard also.
This would be a nice feature built into TWRP if this is possible, or even have it execute at the start up of TWRP for those of us with a powered OTG or willing to make one with a couple of old USB cables etc.
Obviously if the adb part of it disconnects it will be no use unless you have the OTG all plugged in.
Any thoughts on this ? its alot easier than using the adb mouse. Only not sure if this can be executed before the choice of system or recovery that comes on screen ? Cant see why not because you are connected as soon as that screen is up.
*EDIT
This does work as expected with a USB keyboard.

I suppose I could put a setting in the TWRP settings to switch between ADB and OTG. The only problem is if you put it in OTG mode, ADB will never work until you switch it back. But I guess as long as you can boot back in to the OS, I could make it easy to turn it off from there. And then I guess I could also make it so you could easily turn it on from the OS. I'll let you know.

I didnt want to tag you in this as you have already done alot for us all.
What I was thinking, (bare in mind ive no idea how to do ut myself, maybe if I had a little know how id attempt it)
would be to when TWRP boots and while its on the selection screen right before the timer is out if adb mouse has not been detected run that command, if adb mouse has been detected dont run. Have no idea if that's possible tho.

You know... I do like that. That's easy to do, because I already have a loop doing the countdown. So basically it starts out in ADB mode. Halfway through the countdown I check if there is an input device and if it's NOT the mouse emulator, switch the OTG mode. It'll take some tweaking, because right now the mouse gets disabled in the boot menu and I don't know the type of input device currently. But all that should be pretty doable.

Excellent, I was just messing around and made another powered otg lead yesterday and thought id try it while in TWRP. Was quite suprised when I ran the command then unplugged it from my laptop (still windows) ? then plugged mouse/keyboard in. Then had a think of how it could be implemented keeping everyone happy. I only made the otg to see if this fire stick would let me access usb storage, as i had a fire stick previously that let me read/write to usb, even had a hdd dock linked up to it too.
Unfortunately this fire stick wont let me access usb storage, no idea why the other was different.
Anyway great news ?
