Try http://www.villainrom.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=375.
I think you will need the goldcard method

Fist use the oneclickmethod. http:/ / theunlockr.com/2009/08/27/how-to-root-your-htc-hero-in-one-click/
If you don't want to install a new ROM, use this old method. But skip step 5-11, because you've already done that in the one click method.

Very easy and very simple. Rootet my hero with this yesterday

Brilliant, thanks for your help, whitch is the best 2.1 Rom at the moment?
Thanks,
Dan

Hey, not trying to steal your thread. Just wondering if the method suggested by danaust will work on my hero. I also cannot use the one click root method and am trying to avoid the tedious goldcard method.
Firmware: 1.5
Baseband version: 63.18.55.06EU_6.35.06.18
Kernel: 2.6.27-44690c1a
Build: 2.73.707.9 146733 CL#62020
Sofware: 1.0.0.A6288
Thanks

'Tedious goldcard method'? Get a grip. Its a piece of piss. These lads on here have worked hard to make it easy for us ignorant fools and they have. You are taking ignorance to another level by ignoring the route to your goal.

please review the rules
Before this ember turns into a full on flame, let's all take a minute to review the rules?
The RULES can be found here.

Well. It's the unlockers method. The shipping part, is just because I couldn't load the "image" any other ways, so I had to use the two methods.
And yes, It's working.

Rooting German T-Mobile G1

Hi,
I own a german HTC Dream which I would like to gain root access to. I tried to follow the instructions on
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480
but I already fail in the very first section: "Preparing to Get Root on your Phone":
"You should see a gray/white screen with instructions to flash your phone with the update on your SD card."
I do see that gray screen but it tells me "not allow" and after a few seconds it changes to a colored screen with several gradient bars that says "Serial0".
Here some information about my phone:
Model number: G1
Firmware version: 1.6
Baseband version: 65.50S.20.17U_2.22.19.26I
Kernel version: 2.6.29-00479-g3c7df37 [email protected] #19
Build number: DRC92
Can I root this phone at all?
When I read the instructions on the like I just gave, I don't even understand what's happening there. Maybe somebody can explain in a few words what actually happens when a phone is rootet. I consider myself quite knowledgable about bootloaders, kernel and the linux boot process, so I though it would be easier to understand what's going on there.

You could try following the guide on Cyanogen's Wiki
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_G1/Dream_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod
There's a link on there the European downgrade file RC7
U have either create a goldcard or use 1clickroot
@jackslim: I just tried the guide provided by Cyanogen but without luck. Even with the RC7 (Europe) Version of the DREAIMG.NHB I cannot flash the device: I get "not allowed" followed by a nicely colored screen saying "Serial0"
@maxisma: Can you explain this further? Any guides you can recommend?

Is the 1clickroot still working with Android 1.6? I was thinking it was only possible until Android 1.5.

You are right, 1 click root doesn't work with 1.6...
Use the goldcard-method, there are a lot of tutorials on xda.
Had the same problem and used the goldcard. Worked out. If you need help with the goldcard just ask.
I own a german G1 and tried the goldcard version. I couldn't find a tutorial which worked for me so i tried stuff from different tutorials. The best way was a combination of Ubuntu (for SD-Card utilities and number) and the goldcard (through the "email"-version).
dude i've got the same problem with my G1 phone could you email me the tutorial or just the link at with one works ??
I've got pretty much the same spec's of the guy that come up with this problem thanks and way and mabe I could use some help so if you'dd be so nice to add me in msn ?? : [email protected]
thanks
no need for goldcard or downgrade anymore.. just use exploid

I would try updating to a more recent rom and see if that fixes the problem.

Help with Root on Sprint Hero

ok theres probably been over a hundred posts on this already, so bare with me if you can. Im completely new with all of this, so im learning as I go.
So far Ive tried both methods that the unlockr recommends; the one click root, which gave me the
error [140]: bootloader version error
then i tried the goldcard method, which worked great up until I had to use RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_1.29.651.1_signed_release again, and it did the same bootloader error.
Heres my phone info
Model Number
-HTC Hero
Firmware Version
-1.5
Baseband Version
-1.04.01.09.21
Kernel Version
-2.6.27-533ce29d
Build Number
-1.56.651.2 CL85027 release-keys
Software Version
-1.56.651.2
any help would be totally appreciated, thanks again guys
hxxp://theunlockr.com/2009/11/07/how-to-root-your-cdma-htc-hero-sprint-verizon/
i used that last week, the manual, enter commands step by step version and it worked fine.
if you need any help pm me.
The Goldcard method is for GSM Hero's only. What I recommend is using the Fresh Kitchen to root your CDMA Hero.
thats pretty nifty for making a slim rom for your hero. thanks, here i am hacking my phone manually. OH WELL

[Q] New owner of used, rooted G1, want to upgrade

Hi,
I recently purchased a G1 online that has been rooted, unlocked and I am wondering if anyone can help me upgrade it. I am very new to this, but after reading some in these forums, it seems like if I could be getting a lot more out of my device if I had a clue how to do it. Most of what I read though, I don't really understand, so I'm looking for some very step-by-step instructions, if anyone is willing.
One of the main things I'm looking to get out of this, if it is possible, is to be able to store apps on my sd card and free up the phone's internal memory.
Here is some information about the current state of my phone:
Firmware version: 1.6
Baseband version: 62.50S.20.17U_2.22.9.26I
Kernel version: 2.6.29.6-cm42
Mod version: CyanogenMod-4.2.9.1
Build number: DRC83
Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help.

Only if the sdcard has an ext partition. Open terminal app, type df, then tell me what you see(if you have sdcard). But you should check out this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7061471
You can resize the data partiton(app partition) and system partition(sys files) and shrink cache partition(useless for rooted phones).

Try re-locking your bootloader and unlocking it using flashtools.
